    This man KNOWS what and HOW he's doing. That lens seems well PLANNED and build as well. Thank You for Posting!

    I thought I had to go in and repair my lens so this was a really good guide. But what I found is that I just need to glue the focus grip back to the body. This video was very very helpful. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this.

    Good job. Be careful with some older Pentax lenses -- they can be radioactive (rear elements). Not a big deal if you spend only a few hours to do some work (e.g. study, disassemble and clean them). Just don't store them near your bed or desk. Of course, don't smash the radioactive elements in the house for any reason -- it's a nightmare to do a real clean up.

    Really great disassembly/reassembly, but sure wish you'd covered focus helicoid portion.

    Awesome, thanks! My lens is quite dusty and even a bit foggy inside. This lens design is quite "gappy" so it would be easy for dust to get inside. On the positive side, this lens seems to be rather easy and forgiving to disassemble so I'll eventually attempt that at some point.

    Thank you so much for this video !
    I bought a 2nd hand Pentax ME that has this lens. The lense has dust in between back and front lens en using this tutorial I was able to clean the complete lens :-)

    So I'm late on this, but I found this video very helpful. Interestingly I have two of these lenses and a 50 f/2 A version. Both of my Pentax-M 50 f/2 are much more similar to the A version. The way the diaphragm section pulled out of this lens looks very similar to my Super Takumar 50 1.4

    since I don't get any in this way
    we would know to thank you for your good faith

    The first ring can be absolutely stuck, not only ruin it with the wrench, but just won't budge no matter what

    I have the same lense but with different interior structure, maybe it's a different build. My aperture not working after mounting on the camera, but it works when lense was detached. I think something was wrong but don't know where or what is wrong.

    Hi Matt. thanks for sharing.
    Is the from element section of this lens easy to get to clean ?. I means some front element section are cemented together like some vintage Olympus lenses. If you get fungus in that part it can't be cleaned out and becomes useless.

    Great vid! But I have the same lens, only much older, and the front assembly does NOT come undone with the grey ring and you must remove every element on the front, and the back is actually two pieces, I am working on figuring it out now.

    The lighting could've been better, and the autofocus missed the spot several times, but I'm still glad you made this video. It made it much easier to work through how to disassemble and reassemble my Pentax lens. Thanks!

    Are the rear mounting plate screws JIS or standard Philips?

  • @rajatsharma2623
    @rajatsharma2623 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Need help! I used the spanning wrench to move the front grey plate in the open direction. But after one full rotation, the ring gets stuck and doesn't move further. The front itself gets loose and rotates freely inside, but the plate doesn't come off.

    Thanks Matt for this. I am a bit lost. I have the same exact lens and the focus is not working/turning. Once I loosened the 3 screws on the silver inner ring it started to turn but still would not focus at least the front piece is not moving back and forth. Do you have a video that shows how to fix the focus?

    Fantastically well done!!! BTW have you ever tried to disassemble a vintage Sigma lens? I have a Sigma Mini-Wide 1:2.8 f=28mm muti-coated macro prime that an Ebay seller sold me with fungus, it appears to be on one of the center lens elements but finding a video of someone taking this one apart is difficult. It doesn't seem to have any access from the front, I was reading it needs to be taken apart from the back.

    Just a PSA that I attempted to disassemble this lens and my name ring did not loosen up with the retaining ring underneath it. It ended up cracking under the pressure exerted by me unscrewing the retaining ring underneath.

    HOW TO REMOVE NAME RING:
    The letters and numbers on the name ring are engraved. Use your FINGERNAIL on the engrave and turn the name ring. The easiest for me was the number 1.

    Thank you for such easy to understand videos! I have a Pentax ME super with this lens. The aperture ring moves smoothly on the lens but when connected to the camera it moves smoothly one way but seems to catch the other way. After dismounting the lens, I can feel the ring that works with the aperture setting does not move smoothly at all. is there a simple way to remedy this problem?

      Aaron DAVE I found some pipe that was about the same diameter as the name plate, taped one edge, pressed the circular part of that edge hard on the name plate and started turning. It took a lot of force, but eventually came off!

      I used a piece of rubber or silicone, and a small plastic cup - cut the rubber to the size of the outer circle of the lens and put it on top of the ring, then the cup will need to make pressure on top of the ring (so the size of the small cup should be identical to the ring), and then making pressure rotate the cup - the rubber will force the ring to rotate also.

    It's a shame both elements are cemented. There's no real way to clean the dust trapped inbetween or remove fungus.

    • @jimbopaw
      @jimbopaw 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But if the are cemented, how did dust get inside?

    • @jamesw4445
      @jamesw4445 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used isopropyl alcohol and soaked the elements for a few minutes. Baam! Opened it easily.

    • @napper2212
      @napper2212 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two possibilities: (1) Pentax had changed the design for some reason; (2) a previous owner had switched some parts or the name plate with another lens.
