Probably the best described, assessed, filmed and overall informative video on this camera and its common issue on youtube and I’ve watched a lot, Romping Bronco is the worst, its not that he doesn’t know or cant sort, its just so long winded and he forgets what he’s called the video, so you get half a job badly presented and poorly filmed. So congratulations and i look forward to other pentax fixes, one that is not covered anywhere really is shutter curtain replacement on spotmatics, especially Sa1 or Ha1 or any spotmatics that the problem fix would save many of these gems. Great video. I appreciate it when people go into more detail with the mechanisms, explaining what they do and how they interact with other parts of the camera. It's a much more wholistic approach than simply saying unscrew this, desolder that, etc. For this repair, I would check the air damper on the bottom of the mirror box. There is a rubber piece inside it and if it goes bad it will affect both the flip up and flip down speed of the mirror.
@@samgustafson308 Im glad you enjoyed the video! As soon as I had finished recording, I pretty quickly identified the damper as the culprit. The lubricant inside was very sticky and definitely the cause of the slow mirror. Now the camera is in service and one of my daily drivers. Funny enough, it was the first ME Super I've serviced that had that problem, most others just have stuck mirrors!
@frei_kugel It's a job I've been putting off on my Pentax ME super, it has the same slow mirror. My mirror is also cracked where the previous owner tried to force it! I'm not sure if it's an easy fix to replace it or just live with it?😊 Happy to add your channel, it's always good to connect with other photography creators.
@@pdtech4524 The slow mirror ended up being gummy lubricant in the dampening mechanism. Annoying springs to have to remove but overall an easy fix. But if your mirror is cracked maybe it'll be a parts camera 😅
@frei_kugel Ah right, is that the little piston type arrangement below the lens?🤔 I guess I may have to look for another? The camera only cost me £15 and it came with the 50mm lens, so not a total loss! 😲😳
@@pdtech4524 Correct, the piston has a rubber tip that's lubricated, and that lubricant gets nasty over time. With the camera having been that cheap you already got a crazy deal for the lens, so keep the camera for parts and fine another ME Super that works. They're such great cameras and luckily can be bought for very cheap!
Very interesting video. Well done! Any plans to repair Pentax MX? I've managed to free up the mirror but the shutter curtains aren't running well and I'm stumped.
@@paulasmith4017 Thank you! I've done a quick lube job for an MX before, but not a full disassembly yet. Being fully mechanical, the MX is pretty much completely serviceable whereas the ME Super, once the electronics are fried, can then really only be used for parts. The mirror mechanisms are similar for both cameras, but I'd have to see yours to diagnose.
this is a very interesting video....well done... I also own two ME Super body's with two winder ME II There is a problem with one of the body`s...while coupling it with the winder.... Trying to take a shot with the winder...it dont work...no red light...no transport...no shot...nothing...the other body works well..with both winders. I loosen the winder a little bit of the one body that makes the problem....by moving the three contacts from the bottom of the camera....the winder turns and moving the fire button and transport...but if the three contact touches the cam...suddenly the red light went of transport stopped..again...nothing What could that be? Any idea? Shortig inside the Cam? Bad Contact? I am german...sorry if some words are not chosen the right way. searching in the net i dont find anything helpful about it... If necessary...i may send you a short film for demonstration?

@@kamilpotato3764 The focus screen is removed by first removing the top cover, then the pentaprism. The screen is then accessible; I believe the screws you can see from the bottom are used to adjust the position of the screen. I'm not 100% sure on that but yes you have to partially disassemble to access the screen.
@ Bugger. Was hoping to make dyi offset tiny screwdriver to remove those 3 screws and clean under focus screen. Removing everything to get to it is beyond my skills.
@@kamilpotato3764 Yeah it's a bit of work... If you end up trusting yourself to follow the steps in my video then removing the prism is only a matter of a few more steps.

How do you get back the counter to zero after few blank shots? thanks
@@photofusionart You open the back of the camera to reset the counter. If that doesn't work then there's something wrong with your counter.

Is there away to remove focus screen without disassembling camera? From what I see it is held by 3 screws which are impossible to access.
