I’m a regular 9 to 5 dude, I work out daily, go to school etc, and when I tore my Achilles playing football on Thanksgiving was the hardest shit I had to mentally deal with, you can’t walk the way you want, you can’t drive, you can’t train the way you want, you need assistance going to the restroom etc. But prayers to her and hopefully she makes a speedy recovery.

Iykyk, likewise it was the worst! I still don't trust mine. Playing basketball ball and went for a rebound and felt like someone kicked me but no one was there! Got up limping and had to drive my manual shift Honda home an hour away. Brutal! I've never felt so helpless those few months.

Tore myself up after a high fall at work, you instantly realize whose your friend. The love of a mother and father is 2 of a kind, but the choice of other's in those moments is as obvious as black and white.

This really applies to any medical issue outside of sports related injuries. I got diagnosed with cancer last year and it’s hard hearing everyone, doctors included saying “stay positive, you’ll be fine.” And in the back of my mind, I was thinking “yeah ok, I made it this far on bad luck.” I understand it’s really easy to turn negative. Thankfully I’m good now.
And they’re right, you remember everyone who checked in on you and who didn’t give a shit. My coworker was always asking how I was doing and he kept my spirits up. His wife unfortunately got diagnosed with breast cancer and I’ve sent her flowers a couple of times to make sure she is in good spirits because he was there for me.

I resented some of them and even stopped to some after that situation but that's a perspective of true life when things are good everyone around wants to have fun and party when shit goes bad only a select few stick around that truly care. In a recent session my foot slipped as I landed and all my body weight went through my leg when my knee was locked. Took me 2 months of chasing hospital staff (figuratively, I could barely walk 😅) to find out that I tore my ACL and ruptured my meniscus. To even get the surgery required to fix it, I need to do 2 months of rehab just to undo the loss of joint mobility and accompanying muscular atrophy. Then probably another 6-9 months of rehab before I can step on a court again. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, some days I’m good and some days I’m bad. But K-Mart hit the nail on the head: I just keep reminding myself that as long as I treat the rehab with the same sincerity that I treat bball, ima be just fine 💪🏼 all the best to the injured hoopers out there, wishing all of you a speedy recovery

1:26 this is the REALEST shit!! You go from being this “star” you get hurt and EVERYONE in your county reaches out and shows love. - which is nice and feels nice, but then when they all inevitably stop, you grown incredibly resentful.
The other hard part is, as an athlete, a lot of your friends are probably athletes as well. MOST of what y’all do is talk about/watch sports and you’re not allowed to do the one thing you want to, so then you start to pull away from the friends that even were there for you.
The REALEST friends are the ones that don’t allow you to pull away and self-isolate. - but there aren’t many of those ones

It definitely sucks tearing an ACL or any injury really but if you really love the game and want to get back that alone should motivate you to work hard and do a good job with rehab in order to get back on that court or field and get back to it. I speak from experience and it's not THAT depressing, it's actually wierdly kinda motivating imo.

Sucks for Cameron but w some work she’ll be back. When I was younger I was trying to go pro in mountain biking, season hadn’t even started and I had a severe broken wrist doing some stuff I’d done hundreds of times before. Ended up with a dozen screws and cadaver bone. Wrist was never the same. Going into the next season I ruptured my Achilles running. Took a year to recover. So difficult coming back from an Achilles injury… I got mad respect for Kobe being able to play again. It can be done but damn it is hard. Was double hard for people like me cuz at the time I had shitty insurance so I was making $10 an hour having to pay 12k in surgery bills then when I’m close to paying it off now I gotta pay another $15k for the Achilles. After that I got healthy and just rode for pleasure. Even now I’ll see come cool rock feature or jump and I gotta pass it up cuz I can’t afford to miss 6-8 months of time with a wife and kids plus a demanding 9-5. At least she has the best doctors on standby and a great insurance program so she won’t have to worry about having to pay it all back as peace of mind is very important. She’ll be back but it’s going to be work… adversity does make us stronger tho so I got faith she’ll be back stronger.

Entitled family members. Listening to Brandon Jennings who rarely talks on the pod. He made mention he was playing for bill money at an early age. He spoke on how his mom and I think agent screwed him over financially. He’s made comments like just because their are family don’t mean they are looking out for your best interest. Few other statements in various episodes. Leads me to believe a lot of folks in his family had their hand out because he was the cash cow. And when you tell those people no. They can’t handle it.
