@ValiantMonk1 I'm currently playing Metaphor Refantazio (about 60 hours in). This is definitely my favorite game of the year and quickly becoming one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. Suffering succotash! My best friend has always been a big fan of JRPGs but he's fallen on some hard times recently. I really think it would be cool to gift him one of these amazing JRPGs this holiday season. Thanks for the great video! Davidvinc's contribution was a nice treat, too, since I'm such a fan of him.
Suffering succotash! Getting old isn't easy, and sometimes taking that time to get a make-over makes not only helps you look at the world with different eyes, with that feeling of respect, and genuine wonder. There's also a sense in knowing 'I still got it!' when approaching life in general. I think these mindsets are often lost in a lot of modern-day approaches to life, and it's really hard to find the time to slow down and really appreciate the hard work that go into sometimes 'the simple things', or, the wonder in technique that allowed these skills, and products to flourish in the first place! Ultimately, a lovely list entirely. You have a genuine love for these games and it really does show in each episode. Thank you Alex, it's always a joy to watch your episodes.
Great collab, Alex! Was cool you got some buddies in the mix to help you out with this one. Paper Mario TTYD was my personal highlight for JRPGs this year! Keen for more JRPGs in 2025!
Suffering succotash! When I was around 8 I picked up Dragon Warrior III on the GBA because I thought the box art looked cool. It was my first JRPG after playing Pokémon Red. I was captivated by the gameplay and characters. Even picked up the strategy guide and would flip through it when I went to daycare after school with my friends. Great memories!
Suffering succotash! As a lifelong adventurer who first journeyed into the vast expanse of Alefgard decades ago, I’ve faced countless trials-battling through darkened labyrinths, navigating towns of trickery, and forging alliances that shaped my destiny. My path, like that of a fabled hero seeking to redeem a father’s legacy, was built on pixelated memories that still glow with nostalgia. I’ve grown alongside my companions, felt the weight of duty on my shoulders, and learned that courage isn’t just about facing monsters but mastering the alchemy of strategy and heart. This new chapter isn’t just another quest; it’s a return home, a chance to relive and rewrite my legend, proving once again that true heroes never rest.
How wonderful to see a coming together of like-minded people. I love this video for that, as well as the content, of course. My vote goes to Dragon Quest 3 Remake, closely followed by FF Rebirth. A lot of these games I’m tempted to buy if I haven’t already. The last one presented, Metaphor, in particular. I’ve just heard so much positive hype about this game lately. Also, Brandon‘s pick of the Trails game I’m tempted as well. I’ve been wanting to break intothis series, and if Brandon says that this is a good one to do this with then I definitely want to try it. Thanks for a great vid, and thanks Alex for getting everybody together on this.
Suffering succotash! Just got into the series last year and really want this installment. Plus I love watching Dave’s and your jrpg content and this gives me more and more reasons to continue watching and subscribing! Good luck everyone!
Suffering succotash! Alex, between you and David I've never been more hyped about a game! Your holiday guides are as excellent as always! Keep up the good work! :)
Suffering succotash! I have started to introduce my sons to JRPGs, they have been loving the journey so far. Adding new games to their backlog is exciting for the entire family, a tried and true classic would be an even better addition.
thanks for the guide Alex and everyone involved , great choices! these video's help out a lot. I personally endorse ff7 rebirth , trails through daybreak and infinite wealth. But you cant go wrong with any of these!
Suffering succotash! I played dragon quest ever since it came out for the first time. I love this kind of rpg. And now there is a remake of it? I must have this one also. Brings back the good old times! Great video by the way...🤗👍🏻
Suffering succotash! I only recently got into JRPGs starting with Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal, I then moved on to DQ 11 and I never knew a game could feel so comfy! I can't wait to snatch some of the games mentioned in this video to enjoy. Thanks for these videos that provide recommendations on what games to play!
As kickstarter backer for EH: HH I have to say I was pretty happy. Not a perfect game but it gave me the emotions and the nostalgia and the systems I craved, so I am happy with it. Very happy.
Suffering succotash! I have fond memories of a certain draconic adventuring series, specially of the 8th and 11th entries in the series. Seeing the love it’s been getting in this current age is just awesome. Long live JRPG’s! 🎉
Suffering succotash! The most recent game in this series got me back into JRPGs, and knowing that there's a connection between that game and this game makes me all the more excited to play it.
Suffering Succotash! Does anyone else miss the days of the old school style of games when the developers were able to spend time on story and characters. I feel like these open world games are so big that all the time gets put into just filling out the world. I want to walk on the over map to get to the next location. Not that the new games are bad I just miss the former greatness, but I do not miss the now loading screens all the time.
Suffering succotash! That expression really summarizes what I'm feeling right after hearing it on the video lol I'm not here to try to win anything though, it's just to let you know your videos always bring a smile to my face.
Suffering succotash! As I haven't gotten around to the earlier titles in this monster series, it's something I'd definitely be looking to explore more. As a game music fan, the soundtrack of this long journey's series is one I've been a fan of for a long time and definitely goes underappreciated in the rest of the world! I wish everyone the best of luck in the opportunity to earn such a great reward.
Suffering succotash! Old skool meets new skool - and done well, I really hope to see this drive the series further forward! Definitely on my list to games in the series to play
Suffering succotash! This was my favorite game during my childhood and ever since it was announced I have been looking forward to playing this and reliving some very happy memories.
Suffering succotash! ive never had a snes or ps1 growing up so to be able to play these games in a modern era is amazing. remaking all the great classics for us old folks haha
Suffering succotash! Very glad to see the amazing year JRPGs as a genre have had, and it's nice to see the classics continue to get the attention they deserve as well.
Suffering succotash! Been very interested in older jrpgs lately and it looks like it provides a lot of variety. It looks like something nice and cozy to play for the holidays.
Suffering succotash! This is the series that will complete my journey into classic jrpg, a series that despite being a classic eluded me for various reasons. Be them not being localised in my part of the world, on a platform I did not own or just unfortunate timing. 11 is a game I completed to 100% and loved and I hope I can get this one and any future releases. A true classic remade in a way that honours it, truly deserves to be played by every passionate jrpg fan.
Suffering succotash! I lost my job back in September and haven't found a new one yet, so it's going to be a very small Christmas this year. A certain game was my most anticipated of the year, because I've always loved its series, but as it stands, I don't see myself getting it for a while. Would absolutely adore the chance to play it, though.
Suffering succotash! I've been a huge fan of JRPGs ever since I discovered the genre as a kid and that immediately became my most wanted game of the year when it was announced
Suffering succotash! I haven’t finished my Christmas shopping yet, and I happen to know a huge DQ fan, how ever will I go about making this person happy for the holidays???
Suffering Succotash! Growing up, I was a big gamer and most importantly, an Akira Toriyama Fan. I’ve read all his Mangas (Sandland, Dragonball, Etc.) and when I decided to start my first JRPG, why not start with DQ11. DQ11 is the reason I love JRPGs. I began to explore Dragon Quest as a series and I can confidently say it’s my favorite JRPG series. The Artwork, the narratives, the music, the sound effects - it’s hard to deny the impact every ingredient for creating these games have on us, the players. I played DQ8 on PC (PS2 Emulator) and currently hold a DQ IX copy on the DS which I continue to play. I’d love to experience the beginning of the Trilogy. An Experience I’m sure I will never take for granted! Thank you Akira Toriyama - THE LEGEND! 🫶🏾
Suffering succotash! What excites me the most about this remake is the opportunity to see the world of Dragon Quest III come to life with modernized while still preserving the charm of the original 8-bit art.
Suffering succotash! I have never consumed any item on the selected media franchise, but since i really enjoy the aesthetics of this kind of born again content, i was hoping it could be my first! :D
Suffering succotash! I’ve always had a deep appreciation for classic RPGs that blend nostalgia with modern advancements in gaming. A remastered version of a beloved, timeless story would be an incredible opportunity to relive those formative moments of my gaming journey. With updated visuals and enhanced gameplay, it would feel like discovering a treasured world all over again. Not only would it satisfy my love for storytelling and immersive adventures, but it would also let me experience how the magic of a game can evolve while staying true to its roots.
Suffering succotash! This series was my staring point with JRPGs and the reason why I'm neck-deep invested in this genre. Would love to experience where it all began
Suffering succotash! Growing up , RPGs was always something which was worth the money compared to other games as it lasted for over 40 hours, where as action game can be completed within few hours and back in the days , my parents only give us pocket money and my brother and myself would save for months to buy a game. We would go hungry in school so we could save the money for a new game. The history and myth of JRPGs really got me to study and look up where the names , spells and stories came from , definitely gaming opened up so much for a kid growing up in Fiji islands . Thanks Alex for the episode and list of game - keep up the great work 😊
Suffering succotash! JRPG’s have been my favorite genre of games. There always are way to many to play. I wish I could have also played the classics when they came out so I could enjoy the fresh experience. That’s why I am very happy to see some of these classics come back with a fresh coat of paint.
Suffering succotash! Didn’t have the chance to play as a kid since I don’t have the console for it, but man, it looks amazing to see these games being HD remastered and this being another one for the books.
Suffering succotash! I'd heard so many good things in this game.. dragon quest III and I really want to experience it. As I love the jrpg games. Thank you for the offer and the opportunity. Godbless..
Suffering succotash! JRPGs have always been my preferred genre of gaming, with the Persona series being my absolute favorite. I was first introduced to the DQ series with DQXIS and I was so captivated by how charming the world and gameplay is, despite being so rooted in tradition! I have great expectations for the DQ 1 and 2 remakes after seeing experiencing DQXI and can't wait to see more of them!
Suffering succotash! This game brings me back to the good ole days of great rpgs! I never got to complete it and it would be amazing to try it in this new remake!
Suffering succotash! My favorite RPGs are ones that make me feel nostalgic to when I first started playing these games as a kid. There are sure a lot of games on this list that give me that feeling.
Suffering succotash! These HD-2D remakes are beautifully made. It has a mix of nostalgia and introduces something new at the same time. I would love to play them for once without having to wait 2 years for a sale hah
Suffering succotash! I've always missed the joy of playing JRPGs as I couldn't afford a console until late in my 20s when I could buy a Switch. I missed so many amazing games and I can't wait to play them, old and new!
Suffering succotash! I've never played any from the series but this one looks really interesting. I've been trying to check out more varied series of JRPG's and this would be awesome.
Suffering succotash! Dragon Quest/Warrior was one of my favorite video games growing up. I got lucky as a kid finding it in a Sears on my birthday. The heartbreaking part is that it was stolen by someone I thought was a friend. So many good memories with the game though and I hope to make new memories with Dragon Quest 3
Suffering succotash! Back in the day when you could first play games on a handheld ‘boy that likes to game’ I played as a flying reptilian fighter and i absolutely loved it. I loved it so much that I played the alternative title that allowed you to collect the monsters that this fighter would normally fight. I loved that fact that this was a welcome alternative to playing ‘last of the fantasy’ games and couldn’t not stop playing it, which honestly got me into a lot of trouble as a kid. Oh those were the days 😅
Suffering succotash! I absolutely love the art style and the old school turn based gameplay with lots of jobs! As a newer fan of the series I'm excited for a (more) affordable to way to play some of the older entries, as I really like to play series to completion.
Suffering succotash! Starting with the series with the latest installment I’ve found myself eager to explore the ones that made the series so popular and experience it for the first time
Great list! I've played and enjoyed many of these, and others are waiting near the top of my backlog. 2024 another golden year for the JRPG genre (and JRPG-adjacent games). I have a feeling that the number and quality of games we've been getting the last 3 years can't last because of current world-economic vectors -- let's enjoy it while we can! Those of us who enjoy these deep and diverse games know that for us the world of videogames is so much fun right now. A few surprising omissions... Aren't the following three games solid enough to make the list?: - Witchspring R - SaGa Emerald Beyond - Fairy Tail 2 (coming in December like FantasianND) I think the following four games from 2024 are better than their Metacritic would suggest (which I'm sure is what you think about games like Class of Heroes & Farmagia). I bet a few of your viewers with a tolerance for jank & off-the-beaten-path gameplay would enjoy them: - Legend of Legacy remastered - Goblin Slayer: Another Adventurer Nightmare Feast - Reynatis - Rear Sekai / Elrentaros Wanderings And then in the JRPG-adjacent world, since we're including Stellar Blade in this list I'd also include these 3 great games as must-plays from 2024: - Dragon's Dogma 2 - Black Myth Wukong - Rise of the Ronin Happy gaming everyone!
I'm already satisfied, someone else should enjoy that gamekey. Farmagia and Bloomtown somehow slipped out of my conscious memory. Thanks a lot for reminding me👍.
Suffering succotash! I've been a gaming fan since I was 5 years old way back in 1986. Dragon Warrior was my first RPG and I've been in love with the series and genre ever since. Games are my favorite form of media and form of relaxation. I have a big backlog and slowly chipping away. I would love to experience this new version of a treasured game and series from my childhood.
Suffering Succotash! Because i've always been found of JRPG games with this kind of art style and also have only played the newest one and would love to get in the older ones!
Suffering succotash! Been really needing a classic JRPG for my wife to play on the Steam Deck. Definitely something that could fit that need perfectly.
Suffering succotash! When I was little, I could not experience a lot of games due to financial circumstances for my single mother and I (much like many other people). However, when I got a video game, it was so wonderful. Video games were an escape for me - once again, just like for many others - until I met some wonderful friends in my tween years. Before that though, gaming was a place for me to understand stories, people, and learn about some cool things about life. The first RPG I ever played was Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I was fortunate that my grandparents were able to help my mother give me the awesome gift of an Xbox with that game for Christmas one year. That was my introduction to RPGS and my predisposition to being a fan of JRPGS, which tell such beautiful stories with different themes than western RPGS tend to focus on (until recently). Additionally, at that age I got really into Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z. These exposed me to some of those themes that I did not get from other stories and some wonderful art which has influenced manga and games ever since. The first major JRPG I played was Persona 4 Golden and it changed my outlook on how to approach certain uncomfortable topics with my friends (particularly in accepting themselves). Video games have provided such a fun and rewarding experience for my life while letting me pursue growth through the art of the medium. The ability to experience a new game with a new story (to me) with art inspired by one of those creators would mean a tremendous amount. Regardless, I hope everyone who has taken time to read this post has a good holiday season. I am grateful for this community and the support we give one another for JRPGS. Someone else commented that it is a great time to be a JRPG gamer. I couldn't agree more. I wasn't around to experience the golden age of the Chrono Trigger era, but glad I get to be apart of this renaissance. Have a good thanksgiving if you celebrate and stay safe! :D
Suffering succotash! During the pandemic I played my first game in the series which was the most recently released. I ended up loving it so much I spent the entire next year playing through all of them. I just got a steam deck and would love to compare and contrast this version versus the switch version.
Suffering succotash! I'd love the key so my missus, who in the last couple of years have started her journey towards more classic JRPG style games, could experience a game that'd blow her socks off, to the enjoyment for both of us - and maybe set her on the path to delve even deeper into the genre I so very much enjoy.
Suffering succotash! This is a classic rpg that I’ve always wanted to get my hand on and play. It’s tough getting a game growing up due to economy reasons and I’ve missed out on most of the series.
Suffering succotash! I wish I got into JRPGs more when I was younger. Growing old can certainly give you some wisdom, but it can also show you the things you missed out on. I am hoping to experience some of the things I missed out on, but even if I don't, I will use that wisdom to not let opportunities pass me by anymore.
Already have a couple from this list that I still need to play, and the only new one I'm planning to buy is Fantasian: Neo Dimensions. One that came out this year that I think people may have overlooked is Tokyo Xanadu EX+ on the Switch. It was previously available on the Vita and the PS4, but this one looks and runs great on the Switch, and they even redid the translation so that it is (apparently) more faithful to the original source material. By all accounts it is the definitive way to play the game and I've been having a blast with it (still need to finish it up).
Suffering succotash! Mainly it's nostalgia that moves me. Think of Mario and how we still got all the musical themes and 8 bit sounds in the games. It would be lovely to be hit by that nostalgia again.
Suffering succotash! You know that "magic feeling" that you got when you played your first JRPG? (mine was Final Fantasy VII)... I have been chasing that emotion for a long time now... One day I'll experience it again.
@JasonFahringer Hiya! You're chosen as one of the winners of the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake raffle! Reply to this one very soon for details on how to claim your prize!
Suffering succotash! I became a fan of the series after playing and beating the last 3D installment which after enjoying it, got me interested in checking out the remake of these classics!! It's on both my Switch and steam wishlist.
Suffering succotash! I never played the original game but got into the series late and really enjoyed the story. I really want to try this one as I expand my experience with the series.
Suffering succotash! Is it possible to experience a classic like it was made today? JRPG, even old ones with "dated" mechanics, are really a gaming gem and I think every classic should be given a try.
Suffering succotash! As someone who thinks of JRPGs as relaxing comfort food, I can't wait to finally play the newest entry from one of the most cozy JRPG franchises out there.

Metaphor was great but Romancing Saga 2 caught me by surprise.
Easily my favorite JRPG of the year.
Such a shame that the game will most likely just drown under Metaphors shadow.
I agree on Romancing Saga 2. I’m halfway through and can’t put it down.
@@SilverShion Does the game punish excessive level grinding? People are complaining about getting one-shot by enemies after fighting too many battles.

My vote goes to Dragon Quest
3 Remake, closely followed by FF Rebirth.

"it's truly a great time to be a final fantasy fan" geez i wish I felt that way.
That's the perfect video for me right now. I was just about to look for some new games to play.
Suffering succotash!
I played dragon quest ever since it came out for the first time. I love this kind of rpg. And now there is a remake of it? I must have this one also. Brings back the good old times!
Great video by the way...🤗👍🏻

I only recently got into JRPGs starting with Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal, I then moved on to DQ 11 and I never knew a game could feel so comfy! I can't wait to snatch some of the games mentioned in this video to enjoy. Thanks for these videos that provide recommendations on what games to play!
I’m about to beat persona 5!!
As kickstarter backer for EH: HH I have to say I was pretty happy. Not a perfect game but it gave me the emotions and the nostalgia and the systems I craved, so I am happy with it. Very happy.
Nice recommentations!

I have fond memories of a certain draconic adventuring series, specially of the 8th and 11th entries in the series. Seeing the love it’s been getting in this current age is just awesome. Long live JRPG’s! 🎉
dropping this before a steam sale is devious.
oh well the backlog continues to grow!
Suffering succotash! The most recent game in this series got me back into JRPGs, and knowing that there's a connection between that game and this game makes me all the more excited to play it.
Suffering succotash!
As a huge fan of the series' later titles I cannot wait to dive into the origins of these adventures! Thanks 💕
Suffering succotash!
getting to know better the world of JRPGs, and i think this would be a great choice to continue this saga! cheers from brazil
Suffering succotash!
That expression really summarizes what I'm feeling right after hearing it on the video lol
I'm not here to try to win anything though, it's just to let you know your videos always bring a smile to my face.
Suffering Succotash! Would love to have something to play over Christmas break!
I first got into the series with XI and I’m so excited about this new yet old installment
Suffering succotash!
This was my favorite game during my childhood and ever since it was announced I have been looking forward to playing this and reliving some very happy memories.
Suffering succotash! This was a great video! It really brings back great memories and I'm glad you're here to keep us entertained and informed. 🎉
Amazing Shopping Guide with obviously some amazing JRPGs alongside some Amazing Content Creators here. Yes, I've said Amazing x3 times lol

Man, there is a lot of great options to pick from here. Great video as I am looking for something new to play on my Steam Deck!

Well, damn…. Just added 4 of these to my steam cart which already had 16 games. Need to reduce it to a purchase of 5 at most. Great video!
Glad to see I didn't miss any I wanted to get. Don't forget Dragon Quest: Monsters though!
The Dark Prince! I'm shamed that I forgot about that!
@@BacklogBattle Well, it was a December 2023 release, so if you're going calendar year DQMDP belongs in the 2023 video.
@@sonicmania9993 yea, sadly, it wasn't. I completely forgot :( I'll note this for next time

Exploring a classic with new content and refreshed gameplay is always an exciting experience.
My intro to RPGs from my childhood right there! Grabbed every version minus mobile that I could so far.
I can't wait to get more into the series. I've only played the 5th entry on mobile and loved it.
Suffering succotash!
I've never played any from the series but this one looks really interesting. I've been trying to check out more varied series of JRPG's and this would be awesome.
Suffering Succotash!
never played it and have had many friends recommend it! hope to try it soon
Suffering succotash!
i played 6+5 and fell in love with the series would love to play this new one on deck
Suffering succotash!
The art the music the lore and lets not forget the epic adventure we go on foe the Puff-Puff !!!
Aren't the following three games solid enough to make the list?:
- Witchspring R
- SaGa Emerald Beyond
- Fairy Tail 2 (coming in December like FantasianND)
I think the following four games from 2024 are better than their Metacritic would suggest (which I'm sure is what you think about games like Class of Heroes & Farmagia). I bet a few of your viewers with a tolerance for jank & off-the-beaten-path gameplay would enjoy them:
- Legend of Legacy remastered
- Goblin Slayer: Another Adventurer Nightmare Feast
- Reynatis
- Rear Sekai / Elrentaros Wanderings
And then in the JRPG-adjacent world, since we're including Stellar Blade in this list I'd also include these 3 great games as must-plays from 2024:
- Dragon's Dogma 2
- Black Myth Wukong
- Rise of the Ronin
Happy gaming everyone!
I'm already satisfied, someone else should enjoy that gamekey.
Farmagia and Bloomtown somehow slipped out of my conscious memory. Thanks a lot for reminding me👍.
Someone's giving out a game key? That's news to me!
Suffering Succotash! Because sometimes running into a hidden Gold Golem as a kid is hard to forget.
I have loved this series since it was called by another name in the west once long ago. It is the quintessential JRP series.
I absolutely adore this style and I can’t wait for more!
Suffering succotash! I love diverse JRPGS, especially classic JRPGS with unique art styles and stories.
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth was my favorite game of 2024 👍
Suffering succotash!
My game of the Year is Granblue Fantasy Relink. That has been the best rpg I have played all year long and constantly have an itch to go back to.

I became a fan of the series after playing and beating the last 3D installment which after enjoying it, got me interested in checking out the remake of these classics!!
It's on both my Switch and steam wishlist.
Suffering succotash! The hype around the game and what I've seen it seems like something I'm going to enjoy greatly :)
Suffering succotash!
I never played the original game but got into the series late and really enjoyed the story. I really want to try this one as I expand my experience with the series.
Suffering Succotash!
I would love to try this series of games.
Suffering Succotash!
I got to play such a beautiful classic of a game
Suffering succotash!
That art style is sooo clean! I just love the look of that type of game.
Suffering succotash!
Is it possible to experience a classic like it was made today? JRPG, even old ones with "dated" mechanics, are really a gaming gem and I think every classic should be given a try.
Suffering succotash!
I have been looking to get into the JRPG genre and this just might be the one to finally get me into it.
Suffering succotash!
Life has been feeling very draconian lately due to changing my job so thank you for the jrpg recommendations.
Suffering succotash!
As someone who thinks of JRPGs as relaxing comfort food, I can't wait to finally play the newest entry from one of the most cozy JRPG franchises out there.
Suffering succotash!
I really remember this game when I was so young with my baby sitter. Good memories. I'd love to live again with a remake
