This was the movie that helped Ron Clements & John Musker's underrated masterpiece, Treasure Planet, get approved and made, which was the sole reason why both Ron & John even directed Hercules in the first place.
I didn't see this episode of movie surfers on TV because Disney Channel was still premium at the time and it wouldn't be until the next year when Disney Channel finally became part of basic cable.
I’m almost 31 and no wonder! This is the first time I’m seeing this episode! If DC wasn’t so premium I would have been proud to grow up with this generation before High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Suite Life, Raven etc. I liked them but no offense
I feel like I didn’t even know the Internet was a thing until like the year 2000. Kinda mind blowing that people were heavily on it before then, to the extent that they would use it as a set up to this video.
Ever since this movie released and James Woods moved on doing other movies (namely Vampires in 1998) or shows years later, it's like anyone will associate his Hades persona with his other characters.
Like Phillium Benedict in Recess School's Out or the Falcon in Stuart Little 2? Well before he did Hades, James Woods was Joseph Scott in Chaplin; he was also in Salvador, The Way We Were, True Believer, The Hard Way and more!
@@lucitum.world1998 His voice role as Hades has been often compared to the improv Robin Williams did as the Genie since they just follow the script, but constantly ad-lib it with their quick-wittedness.
I'm a film maker and I plan on making a bunch of traditionally animated movies (as well as live-action), CGI is such an over crowded market, so why not have films that truly celebrate the artistry of drawings? Not to take anything away from Pixar or Disney, though.
Hades: What was that name, again? Meg: Hercules. Pain: Wait a minute. Isn't that the name of that kid we were supposed to... Pain and Panic: Oh my gods!
I’m almost 31 and yet I never seen this episode until now! Hercules is one of three Disney animated features from the 90’s I consider myself a fan of. The other two are Aladdin and Mulan! I hate to sound unpopular!
Hades is the best character in the movie, James Woods did an outstanding job voicing him and he is one of the many characters supervised by longtime animator Nik Rainieri.
20:29 Hey, when those boys got caught by the security guard, do you think it’s going to escalate into a chase scene to the style of Benny Hill or Yakety Sax for that matter?
James Woods was better as Owlman from Justice League Crisis On Infinite Earths. May not be a comedic character, but was a different and surprising approach.

@Zed-ti9uj Pretty much 🤷♀
That hero montage hit me right in the feels
The internet connection on that that was actually really good, I'm impressed with that video conference quality LOL
That moment when Christina Milan went by Tina and you were SO FREAKING CONFUSED.
OMG I didn't noticeeee!!
That hero montage to “Go The Distance” without the voice overs of the interviews would be amazing…

This brought back some good memories. Ahh and look at that cord. Man those were the days.
True stuff man
Just watched this masterpiece last night, amazing
They should do a 20th anniversary special with the original actors.
And I've missed it 😖
Darrin Hubbard What, the 20th Anniversary D23 panel, two years ago?
@@cabooseresurrected5183 Yea in person but I gotta chance to see it on the Disney TH-cam channel.
A time we didn't have cell phones.
I’ll be 31 next month but I wish I was born sooner
I had one in late 1997! 🤪
I know that a lot of characters are made to resemble their voices but wow on Hades… His VA is realistically close enough in appearance to him… 😯
Zeus is my favorite name from Greek mythology. Cool name starting with the letter Z.
I feel like I didn’t even know the Internet was a thing until like the year 2000. Kinda mind blowing that people were heavily on it before then, to the extent that they would use it as a set up to this video.
It’s been available since 1995
@ I feel like it didn’t really pick up in popularity until early 2000s. At least that’s how it was for me.
This whole educative moment really cracks me up
So, with Phil they wanted a combination between Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito? So, they wanted to mix two versions of The Penguin together?
I can't believe the Movie Surfers were around twenty years ago!
Ever since this movie released and James Woods moved on doing other movies (namely Vampires in 1998) or shows years later, it's like anyone will associate his Hades persona with his other characters.
James Woods voicing Hades is so GREAT, giving some comedy when he plays the bad guy
Agreed

@@hamursh Phillium Benedict still comes to mind as well back in 2001. Both are pretty hot-headed characters.

“And it rocks!”
Disagree, kid. Bring back 2D animation and make CGI supplement it like it did here in this film.
I like to see a bit of both 2D and CGI
All of them are great characters of disney heroes are fantastic
CGI- it's going way too out of hand now, bring up hand animation any day, please.

Cuphead might be your thing, if you look for the original animating. It's a game, but still pretty unique being hand drawn
Did you see Mary Poppins Returns?
Did you see Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure
i am obsessed with susan egan
blast from the past
Hades: What was that name, again?
Meg: Hercules.

to me he is like the greek Goku
man this brings me back i remember seeing this one and movie surfers flubber

Video calls in the 90's were so high def and no lag! Wow
Ah the memories. To think there was a time when I wished the Internet was faster/more available; be careful what you wish for as they say hehe :)
7:05 i like this part
There are a few interesting things mythology uses: Deities, titans, titanesses, mythical creatures, and magic
This movie literally introduced me to mythology
for the first trivia question i know ursala's sidekicks names are 2 eels named flotsam and jetsam
Meg should be an official Disney princess, like omg! Why Disney didn't add her?
D,A,C 589 That's a real good question
Because Hercules isn’t a prince, he’s a God. So wouldn’t she be a Goddess... right? Isn’t that how it works?
Jay Gutz Yet Disney had added Mulan and she isn't a Princess (Shang was a soldier, not a prince)
Jay Gutz Also Herc was a god but he chose to stay on Earth
I think she should be. Zeus is the king of the gods, Hercules is his son, and Meg becomes his wife. Which should make her a princess
i love the gospel singers... but i was hoping to see more of the animation process and less of the movie surfers
I wish Disney would make a sequel (and I wish I could be part of it maybe ) but who knows but still this is movie is gold
I wasn’t too much a fan of the direct to video sequels from back then
Susan Egan was also in Gotta kick it up
My question is, where did you find and upload the 3 Movie Surfers specials from the Disney Channel onto your channel?
Back when Disney was Disney. It is starting to lose its magic now.
I couldn't agree more
So true…
Communism has that gloomy effect on things.
I keep saying they should have been momentum since Encanto! But No

Blue fire is more controlled, red fire loses control raging inferno if you will.

Why in the world would the Disney company make Hercules a comedy movie?
I don’t understand.
All its animations were the same mix of adventure and comedy
What’s the problem with that?
