Whoever came up with the idea of making the muses Gospel singers to tell the story of Greek mythology deserved a raise because it worked unexpectedly well. Like designing Aladdin as Tom Cruise in M. C. Hammers clothes...it shouldn't work but it does.
It is such a golden move to combine gospel to a story of ancient gods and myths. The musical input in these Disney movies is what turned them into classics.
Not only that its kind of genius Women played a major role in Greek Myth and Religion as Holy Women, the Muses themselves are representations of the Arts, While Gospel music seems odd in this context, Greece was actually a Hot bed for Early Christianity along with Anatolia, Anatolia had a very huge impact on the development of Christianity to the point most of Modern Christianity trace their origin to Nicean Christianity a denomination in Anatolia, Greece later developed then spread Orthadox Christianity, most notably into Eastern Europe, as the Byzantine Empire, the Eastern Romans.
He actually only recorded it that way once, the rest of the time he said "Go ahead young lady" because he felt "You go, girls" wasn't proper. But eventually they managed to talk him into "You go girl" and that was the take they used in the movie.
I love Charlton Heston! I cannot believe I didn't know he was in this till today! What a great voice though; of course he was the choice for opening the serious majestic narration before turning it over to the muses.

Funny you should mention both characters as the swedish dub of Aladdin and Hercules have the same guy voicing both Genie and Hades, actor and comedian Dan Ekborg. Also in both films, actress Myra Malmberg voices the female lead, Jasmine and Meg respectively (she did Wendy in Peter Pan and later did Andy's mom in Toy Story 3, Ariel in The Little Mermaid 2 and 3 and in an episode of Sophia the First and Osono in Kiki's Delivery Service).
Meg's voice actress is just as beautiful as the character she voices. Meg is the most mature and relatable of the Disney princess pantheon, and she'll remain my favorite because of this.
Honestly, a lot of people are talking about the muses, and Meg, and hades, and that's valid because they all did amazing, but I feel like hercules is severely underrated. His voice sounds young, but not in an anoying grating way. He just sounds great!
Had the pleasure to work with Lillias White on an off broadway show for a few months...she was absolutely killer, the sweetest and most professional person, with one of the GREATEST voices imaginable.

I love how much the animators put the voice actor into the animations. Meg and her swinging hips, Herc and his innocent nervous energy, Danny Devito’s Danny Devito. It’s almost like motion capture in a way. Like, I look at Elsa, and I see none of Indina Menzel. I’m not talking about because of hair color, but facial expressions and body language. That’s part of acting. And it affects how your voice sounds.
Well Elsa as well as most of the characters in frozen are pretty one dimensional as far as personality goes. I mean the king and queen were pretty awful to lock away and isolate Elsa, and she remains pretty emotionally unscathed, albeit a bit reserved. But they really didn't get the torment of someone locked away and isolated for 15ish years. For what she was put through she was relatively okay. But I'm just saying they could've gone way deeper with the story and their personalities.

Somewhere in Time. Jane Seymour, Christopher Reeves and Christopher Plummer
Susan Egan was also the voice of the chick from Spirited Away. The one who befriends the little girl.
Yup! She also was the singing voice for Angel in Lady and the Tramp 2, as well as the speaking and singing voice of Rose Quartz in Steven Universe. She also recorded an alternate song for Meg that wasn’t used in the film called “I Can’t Believe My Heart”. It’s absolutely golden!
Also, Susan Egan was the original 'Belle' in Disney's _Beauty and the Beast_ on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award (i.e., theater Oscars).
This video brought me joy. I just watched the movie yesterday and most of these songs are great. I love love love the direction they went in with the muses. And Megera has probably my favourite song in the movie
The best musical numbers Disney offered in my opinion. Everytime I listen to the Soundtrack or watch the movie I‘m in goosebumps.
The hunchback of notre dame had some pretty good music too
Happy 25th Anniversary of Disney's Hercules(1997)🎊🥳🎂🎉🎤🎵🎶🎙🎼🏛🎊🎊🎂🎉🎉🎊🎂🎉🎊🥳🥳🎤🎵🎶🎙🎼🏛

I'll be turning 40 next year, and this, still is my favourite film to this day ❤️
Susan egan's appearance and voice are so beautiful it gives me goosebumps
헤라클레스는 디즈니 중에서도 특히 ost가 진짜 다좋음 우리나라 성우진도 개 잘어울림
This Must Have Been a Fun Recording Session
This is one of my favorite Disney movies but I always wished they gave Hades a villain song. I’m kinda hoping they give him one in the musical
I was today years old that I found out that the creepy pharmacist from Desperate Housewives was the singing voice for Hercules.. LIKE WHAT
James, The Muses, & Danny killed it 🙌🏾
Goosebumps
Absolute masterpiece and one of my two favorite disney movies ever
Go the distance is such a beautiful song. The Spanish version is sung by Ricky Martin, also amazing.
It is beautiful and I'm in love with ricky martin and he did the voice in spanish of hercules and he is my crush ❤
00:30 what a song, iconic film. Disney needs to step up.
I love how Alan always gets excited when the muses sing. Literally got excited when he asked James to sing it while he played the piano then as well.
Really?
The Muses are EVERYTHING!!! 🎉
James Woods made that role his, literally I can't think any other actor can voice Hades but him.
Hercules has a great soundtrack.
