Hi I was wondering why they used aerobic plates (blood, choc, mac) if the anaerobic blood culture bottle went positive. I'm a new student who's really interested in micro and I would have thought that a pos anaerobic bottle would indicate a anaerobic infection. Why not set up anaerobic plates in this scenario?
Thank you, I'm just curious and wanting to learn

Pathogens Staph, Strep, Candida yeast, Enterobacteriaceae possibilities. GPC here from the agar plates. Test with catalase bench test. Conclusion if catalase positive preliminary report will have presence of this culture type. Probable Staphylococcal species. Susceptibility to follow. Physician will determine if significant pathogen or contaminant.

can it also be Staphylococcus saprophyticus? Because you only said Staphylococcus epidermidis and didn't give a reason why it couldn't be Staphylococcus saprophyticus

In my videos, I don't focus on the identification of the organisms. It's more about how to read plates. Yes, the organism could be S. saprophyticus, but that organism is rare in blood cultures. We would have to do identification testing to determine the genus and species.
