And there is NOTHING wrong with saying you don't like the looks of a tent. That is in no small part a contributing factor for me. That green / gray look isn't my thing either. I figured the market for this is festival camping. Traditional campers are up and out and about. Hangovers and sleeping way in are certainly possible but more likely in a festival situation.
I found this review after we decided against this tent. The dark room was the major pro for us because we car camp at RV parks with another 2 families who have RVs (more lights than a tent campground or section) but the layout wasn't as good as the tent we chose. We also found photo reviews that the "blackout technology" is a coating that is easily damaged/scratched off. I immediately noticed that the walls and rain fly just don't go taught for you.
@@len9321 we got the Core Equipment 12 man cabin tent (the model with the doors on the middle of the long wall) Is it glamping? Yep. Does it make it easier to avoid RV FOMO? Also yes. It pops up really nicely. 1 person could set it up, but it's nicer with 2. We chose to go with solid design and space over shading (eye masks exist and also block light). We recently camped through a small thunderstorm. The only internal water we found was a tablespoon amount under a window that had a stow bag hanging under it (and that could have been condensation). We always put a tarp down first. The one thing we did was upgrade the stakes to the longer steel kind with the green plastic hook under the "nail head". It comes with a nice big bag that zips open over one end and has extra space to accommodate that it's impossible to refold a tent to factory standards after use. It has cinch straps for packing ease.
Thanks for the awesome review! I’m from the northeast and rain is always a issue at some point and I’m done with leaky tents. Also, I’m 1/2 inch shorter than you so good to know about the divider. I also agree about the look of the tent.
Lone Crow Adventure help! Is there a tent that has an air conditioner vent for a small room air conditioner. A tent that fits a small-size family. In RV camps...especially in Florida it gets really hot and want to take advantage of the electric hookups here.
Not that I've seen, but I have seen people buy cabin style tents and cut out a section for an air conditioning. You need to have a little table on the outside for it to rest on if it's a window unit and beware that if it rains, well I don't know what would happen... either a flood inside the tent or electrocution or maybe both. I'd make sure the campground outlets were gcfi protected before using an air conditioner. It might be easier to use a portable air conditioner (you know the one that's a tower on wheels) and vent out a window. Let me know what you find out!!!!
Also we camped down in Georgia two years ago and in South Carolina too and it was wicked hot and sticky humid air too. Would have liked to have some AC!
It is a tent woman. other than the rain problem you pointed out, the other seems minor importance to someone like me that is going to use this once in a while. btw- the price of tents has been almost doubled
I would love to see Coleman add an awning to the front of their rainfly to allow people to get in and out without having to worry about rain at all. I’ve had this tent (the pre dark room version) since the first generation of it and this has always annoyed me.
Can you make a recommendation for a car camping tent . We are grands parents going with 3 preteens. Help. We need quick and easy, roomy , durability and a good price point, please.
I'd stick to the Coleman family of products, but not an instant tent. I'd check out this tent: Solid rain fly and pretty easy to set up. amzn.to/3eRDWoR
I love your honest reviews! I have had this tent up in my backyard for a solid 2 months straight (in hot, dry eastern Washington summer) and it has held up well. We had a horrible wind storm last week and the rain fly was literally ripped to shreds but the actual tent was fine. I agree there are a lot of issues with this tent as you mentioned, but if you are in a dry, very sunny climate I think you’ll appreciate having a nice dark tent. That being said, I definitely prefer the Ozark trail instant tent and probably won’t repurchase this one as it’s a little too dark for me.
Postropaky Weather proof pants!!!! I love these pants! I wear them outdoors all winter long. Only$45. Won't get wet when kneeling in snow or slush!!!! Holds yo to wear and tear really well!!! Here's the link to them. amzn.to/3FnzNp7
I don't know why the Coleman Insta Tents lack a good rainfly on any of their models. That's the number one complaint since they came out with them. Hence why I never pulled the trigger on one, or ever will. Great video, Sam! Looking forward to seeing 2021 camping/hiking videos with you and the Warden. Cheers!

@@LoneCrowAdventures awesome, thank you. I love your videos. We got the 8 person instant ( I have other non instant Coleman’s that take a full 10 min with 3 people to set up) and we try it out in May.
I see so many tents where the door is just going to bump water right in , do they not test theese things ? Very good review , its funny Coleman always shows a rain test in thier comercials yet this tent failed a snow test, can we say recall , i like Coleman tents but this one i would pass on . Keep up the hounest reviews , i really enjoy them 👍👍
I was fairly disappointed in the performance of this tent, however I do like the 6p cabin style tent which was a total boss in rain and snow tests. Coleman tents are inconsistent at best. They are "good" not great tents, but budget friendly for most folks and the brand is widely recognized which I'm sure influences their popularity despite better options being available on the market. Thanks for stopping by.
It looks kinda sad, I agree. Seems pretty bad if it leaks on the first time. I still don’t really get why someone would want this unless they are really sensitive to light.
I bought this from a friend after they used it once and decided to upgrade to a camper. For me, it works great with the primary purpose of putting kiddos to bed early. While it does have that 15 minute setup time with rain fly, it’s way easier than previous tents with traditional poles. I suffer from migraines so light sensitivity is a factor as well ☺️
So price is what I have to say. Most things seems to be simple things that for a bit of work you could remedy. Like the fly straps, just replace them with 550 cord or untie and tighten the elastic also elastic corsage is pretty cheap ao if it does wear out for $4 you could replace them and have 45 feet left over. As for the divider you could install it before putting the tent up if your a shorter person. Now almost every single twnt that you get in nylon or like material will leak to some extent I learned that a long time ago and it doesn't matter if it's a $20 twnt or a $300 tent. When you buy a nylon tent treat it imidiatly before you ever even use it and then retreat it about once a year maybe more if you camp alot due to the treatment will deteriorate from the sun. Just like I spray my gear with bug treatment I spray my gear that should be water resistant with sealant. They also make a thicker sealant for seams if your stitch holes start to wear a bit get some of it
This is very disheartening, i pre orderded this in Amazon , will be cancelling now, do you recommend the ozark 10 person instant dark room instead or do you recommend another one , i saw coleman had a insta 8 person sunblock with front screen with great reviews? This will b my first tent and my first time camping in florida. . Appreciate what recommendations you might have ! .
@@LoneCrowAdventures thank you! Is core also a good brand? I saw a led intsant tent cole brand at cosco , but now many reviews? Any recommendations in these ? Ir is it just one more thing to break , deoending in the cole brand itself ? Thank you in advance
I don't have any personal experience with core brand and I don't know anyone who has used one before so I can't vouch for that brand specifically, unfortunately. I do have the instant 6 person cabin tent by Coleman which I like very much. I find the bugger the tent the more issues you run into, so I don't generally get one bigger than a 6p as a rule, unless I know I'm taking out a ton of people like on a family trip. Good luck!
could you do a review of it at a music festival in the summer when you stay up all night and try to sleep in it during the day when its 85 degrees out? it looks like you didn't tie it off properly... that's why it's wrinkly
Yeah, I had difficulty getting the guy lines tight. They loosened with the wind pretty dramatically. This would be a good scenario tent 9f you were staying up all night partying and wanting to sleep in a bit. Just hope it doesn't rain!
In the beach with the sheer volume of this tent I'd think you'd have a very difficult time securing it in the sand. If you are going to try buy mega sized tent stakes to peg it down.
@@LoneCrowAdventures Yeah, our similar size Coleman was a giant parachute! South Texas shoreline has winds in excess of 40 MPH. Good review! I'll keep looking.
This is a great, honest review. You point out the things we don’t automatically think about when choosing a tent. I hate how most tent walls flare out at the bottom, making an A shape. Solely because if it rains the lower parts of the walls eventually get so wet that water starts coming inside. I think when camping in the rain you just need a tarp large enough to go over the entire tent with some to spare on all sides to keep dry. Haha yeah it does look like a carnival tent 😂sorry I’m commenting while watching. Anyways.. what is your favorite cabin style tent? We’ve got two little kids so it needs to be big. I’d like one that sleeps like 10 or 12. Anywhoooo great vid, you are great at doing this. You need your own show for sure.
My favorite tent is the instant cabin tent 6 which is sturdy and doesn't have the issues like this tent does. As far as larger cabin tents, try the Core 12: amzn.to/3Q6ctjg or another solid opion is the Colman 8 person octagon tent. Solid design. amzn.to/3P1E2JH
Yep! I got these off Amazon. Nice and warm and water proof. I've worn them on light rain and snow and sleet and they've kept me dry in all those conditions. Warm and cozy too and also affordable! Check them out: amzn.to/3e2fkIB
@@LoneCrowAdventures I owned 2 Ozark trails instant cabin, same design & never had any trouble. It doesn't look fully stretched out at bottom staked down. & You need to keep tighting lines after rain, that happens to every line.

It's hard to believe this tent rates so badly against the Coleman 4 person instant tent. You'd think they would just upscale the whole thing and use the new material. Why fix it if it 'aint broken. Also, you're not 'abnormally short', you're exactly the size you are meant to be. Behave yourself 😊.
Thank you for the great review! English teacher here, hope you will forgive me, but the word "taut" has no "n" and is pronounced just like the word "taught".
Taunt - a remark made in order to anger, wound, or provoke someone: _We started taunting her over her vocabulary mistakes._ Taut - stretched or pulled tight; not slack: _She made sure her guylines were taut in preparation for the incoming storm._
Well, I was going to buy this tent for 6 people, but after watching this video I already changed my mind, also because I think the Colman tent is expensive.😅
I really liked that swinging door and that dark room look. I get you were doing a review on the tent but you just sounded like a Karen throughout it. Almost every single camping, hunting, fishing, outdoor thing I have, I’ve had to hack it to make it how I like it. Everything you said about it can be taken care of by doing just that. They can’t make a tent to please every single persons likes or dislikes. Just saying!
If you have clear weather camping and you feel like you don't want to put on the rainfly the tent will absolutely collapse on you also. This tent is one of the worst tents I've ever owned
Hmmm. Which channel is that? I just use the stuff available in youtube music studio. I bet a lot of people have that jingle. Which channe is it? I'm curious.
Made the mistake of buying this pos before reading any reviews. It IS the biggest POS tent I have ever seen in my life. It is not stable in wind of any kind, the fly is a pos and the whole thing collapsed in a minor wind event. We trashed it.
Unfortunately I can confirm that this tent is horribly made. I used mine less than 10x and each time something new would break. Coleman is going to warranty it, but funny enough they are offering 3 different tents as they told me this one was no longer available. Probably due to rhe high returns. Its a shame because its really a nice tent if they didnt skimp on quality

It comes with a nice big bag that zips open over one end and has extra space to accommodate that it's impossible to refold a tent to factory standards after use. It has cinch straps for packing ease.
Thank you for the review. So many important points. I’m passing on this one. Still hunting for a good quality but affordable camp tent.
I was do disappointed in this tent. 😔
Thanks for the awesome review! I’m from the northeast and rain is always a issue at some point and I’m done with leaky tents. Also, I’m 1/2 inch shorter than you so good to know about the divider. I also agree about the look of the tent.
There are certainly better options out there.
Great review, but was wondering about ventilation? Was thinking about buying this but Coleman needs to make improvements first, thank you!
That is hard to answer on this tent because it was hard to determine seam leaking versus condensation.
That's crazy on the price! It's already do expensive!
I would love to see Coleman add an awning to the front of their rainfly to allow people to get in and out without having to worry about rain at all.
I’ve had this tent (the pre dark room version) since the first generation of it and this has always annoyed me.
I agree. A little foresight on the design could have done wonders
Excellent review. Thank you
Thanks so much!
Here's another good option if you want a slightly larger tent. amzn.to/33NvPU5
Got one just like what you recommended, we love it! Thank you
I love your honest reviews!
Yes, it is quite dark. I'm in the midwest and this tent cannot stack up to our thunderstorms we get in the midwest!
What pants are you wearing? What’s the brand?
Postropaky Weather proof pants!!!! I love these pants! I wear them outdoors all winter long. Only$45. Won't get wet when kneeling in snow or slush!!!! Holds yo to wear and tear really well!!! Here's the link to them. amzn.to/3FnzNp7
Here's the link! amzn.to/3FnzNp7
Thank you. Killer logo.
Cheers!
I agree with the rainfall issue, especially on this tent. More hiking content coming soon. I'm working on our last hike video, which we did in March. Hoping to have it up soon! Cheers!
your videos are amazing. So informative... thanks!!!
Love your channel! Where do you camp?
Mostly northern Wisconsin now. Camped a lot in Illinois and in the Southeast too.
@@LoneCrowAdventures I'm leaving the west coast (camped it ALL.. Sierra Nevadas top to bottom). I can't wait to start finding places out there, I'll be living in Kentucky. Any suggestions?
Have you replaced this tent and found a better option you can share with us?
I like the 6 or 8 person coleman pop up versus the 10p. Too big.
But how do you like the 4 person instant rent you had in the referenced video?
I was referencing the 6p cabin tent. The 6p and the 4p are the same design. I did a full review on the 6p cabin tent last week, that was an amazing tent. Full review here: th-cam.com/video/ltsVRUHQDQg/w-d-xo.html
@@LoneCrowAdventures awesome, thank you. I love your videos. We got the 8 person instant ( I have other non instant Coleman’s that take a full 10 min with 3 people to set up) and we try it out in May.
@@mikepowell3975 let me know how it goes!
We have one. It's great. No leaks, goes up in about 3 minutes, and it was less than two hundred dollars.
That's a good price on that tent! Congrats!
The store was going out of business. I got deal on it.
Great review. I don’t like leakage!
I detest leaky tents as well. After testing this puppy went back to the store! Not acceptable. No one wants to get wet!
Nicely done! Very good job!
Thank you very much!
It looks kinda sad, I agree. Seems pretty bad if it leaks on the first time. I still don’t really get why someone would want this unless they are really sensitive to light.
Yeah, maybe good for putting the kiddos to bed early or sleeping in for partiers
I bought this from a friend after they used it once and decided to upgrade to a camper. For me, it works great with the primary purpose of putting kiddos to bed early. While it does have that 15 minute setup time with rain fly, it’s way easier than previous tents with traditional poles. I suffer from migraines so light sensitivity is a factor as well ☺️
thanks for the review. It helps me make the decision.
Hopefully it turns out well for you. Which tent have you decided to go with?
@@LoneCrowAdventures I decide to buy Coleman 8-Person Skydome Tent.
They also make a thicker sealant for seams if your stitch holes start to wear a bit get some of it
Those are very good suggestions, thank you!
Any chance you still have this tent and wanna sell it for parts? 😬
Sorry, I sent this guy back to the store.
This is very disheartening, i pre orderded this in Amazon , will be cancelling now, do you recommend the ozark 10 person instant dark room instead or do you recommend another one , i saw coleman had a insta 8 person sunblock with front screen with great reviews? This will b my first tent and my first time camping in florida. . Appreciate what recommendations you might have ! .
I'd go with the instant 8 from coleman if it were me.
Good luck!
THANK YOU so much for the great review.
Hope it helped you make an informed decision on your next tent!!!
could you do a review of it at a music festival in the summer when you stay up all night and try to sleep in it during the day when its 85 degrees out? it looks like you didn't tie it off properly... that's why it's wrinkly
Yeah, I had difficulty getting the guy lines tight. They loosened with the wind pretty dramatically. This would be a good scenario tent 9f you were staying up all night partying and wanting to sleep in a bit. Just hope it doesn't rain!
This is exactly why I bought this tent... Sleeping in the morning at Bass Canyon 😁
@@jessecoleman8533 the dark room technology would work well for that!!!!
I would live to see that review... that being said it's a coleman. made for car camping
@@ronrony2kify I'd just love to get back to being able to have music festivals again! Maybe in 2022?
has anyone used this on the beach in the summer? I would probably replace those elastic tie downs with regular cord to keep rain fly tight
@@LoneCrowAdventures okay I will be looking these up!! Thank you thank you!
I would tie the elastic in a knot to tighten it
That's a good idea!
I like your pants, could I get more info on them?
Yep! I got these off Amazon. Nice and warm and water proof. I've worn them on light rain and snow and sleet and they've kept me dry in all those conditions. Warm and cozy too and also affordable! Check them out: amzn.to/3e2fkIB
Great info, thank you for taking the time to answer my question! 🦔
@@rimajaro no problem!
Doesn't look like you have enough tension on rainfly lines & tent isn't stretch out enough
I had them nice and tight but the material really sagged after the rain.
@@LoneCrowAdventures I owned 2 Ozark trails instant cabin, same design & never had any trouble. It doesn't look fully stretched out at bottom staked down. & You need to keep tighting lines after rain, that happens to every line.
@@toddevans4667 that's good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Create your own tie out point with a grommet maker.
That's a good idea!!!
I think this is a great review!! It seems very fair! Is there a room dark tent you would recommend?
Edit: just watched your vid on the sun dome! Awesome channel! I have some serious binge watching to do tonight!!
The dark room technology in itself works very well. The Sundome or even the Carlsbad in dark room versions a decent tents.
Thanks for the review Samantha but I'll pass on the one.🤙
Yeah I was shocked how much I disliked it!
Thanks for this review! I’m looking for a dark tent to get my toddler/baby napping while we camp and this actually made me want to buy it.
I’m only looking to do short camp trips with them spontaneously when the weather looks nice so I think this might be the perfect fit!
The Darkroom technology on this tent works fabulously well. You'll be happy with it for a couple of little ones. Good luck!
Thanks! I appreciate you checking it out. Yeah, I'm not sure why this tent was designed like this. I guess different strokes for different folks!
Thank you for the great review! English teacher here, hope you will forgive me, but the word "taut" has no "n" and is pronounced just like the word "taught".
No n, gotcha! Thanks
Almost purchased one
Whew! Saved you!
Thank you for the review. I was looking into getting this tent. I think I will pass now.
Yep. I'd recommend the 6p cabin tent. Very good compared to this one.
I want this just for the darkness but the rain killed it for me
Coleman sundome has a dark tent version ad well.
@@LoneCrowAdventures had no idea thank you
Ha Wisconsin 🤣🤣 I know all about that weather lol
Brrrrrrr
Taunt - a remark made in order to anger, wound, or provoke someone: _We started taunting her over her vocabulary mistakes._
Taut - stretched or pulled tight; not slack: _She made sure her guylines were taut in preparation for the incoming storm._
Thanks for the clarification
Most of the cons can be fixed. Except the color of it. But, for the price. There are better options.
That color was terrible. I agree!
Well, I was going to buy this tent for 6 people, but after watching this video I already changed my mind, also because I think the Colman tent is expensive.😅
I'm sure glad I could save you some aggravation! What did you decide to go with?
With any tent u need a tarp
That is not a bad idea at all.
Yeah but its on Amazon right now for just $300
That's insane!!!!
Thanks for the feedback
Not only is she cute, but it's also a good review.
Hey thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it!
Hahahahahahahahahahaha 🤣😅😂
You are right ! I don’t know why they do this ugly coloring😅
If you have clear weather camping and you feel like you don't want to put on the rainfly the tent will absolutely collapse on you also. This tent is one of the worst tents I've ever owned
wow she doesn't like the way it looks and she's mad that she's too short to hook up the divider. Not a fair review
Nope ugly tent.
Thanks for the review but you really should try to find a different intro jingle that doesn't copy a different channel.
Hmmm. Which channel is that? I just use the stuff available in youtube music studio. I bet a lot of people have that jingle. Which channe is it? I'm curious.
@@LoneCrowAdventures Outdoor boys 1.5 million subs and have had that intro for going on 3 years.
Room divider looks awful. Just wow
It certainly is!!!
Only a drunk person at a festival would buy this tent!
Lol, that's funny!
Literally why I bought this tent 🤣
Or people with kids who need darkness for naps!
This is a ridiculously designed tent and looks terrible. I thought it looked cool too until i saw you set it up. Awful!
I agree, it looks like a circus tent!
Of yiu hate the tent so much ship it my home we will put it to good use even send videos
Made the mistake of buying this pos before reading any reviews. It IS the biggest POS tent I have ever seen in my life. It is not stable in wind of any kind, the fly is a pos and the whole thing collapsed in a minor wind event. We trashed it.
Wow! That's a terrible story, but not hard to picture that happening! I agree, the stability of this tent is unacceptable 😑
Loses big points because you can't reach the ceiling? I suppose your house loses points too because you can't change a light bulb without a chair? Lol
Lol, that's funny 😁
Unfortunately I can confirm that this tent is horribly made. I used mine less than 10x and each time something new would break. Coleman is going to warranty it, but funny enough they are offering 3 different tents as they told me this one was no longer available. Probably due to rhe high returns. Its a shame because its really a nice tent if they didnt skimp on quality
Really? I didn't realize this tent was discontinued!
@@LoneCrowAdventures ya i think the only place that you can still get one is amazon

Yes, I've seen that and it has a way better rainfly.
This would be a great tent for neurodivergent people like me.
Yes, it lowers the sensory input for sure
'Taut'...
Thanks for taking the time to check it out
Definitely a ugly tent!
This thing was a disaster!
I like this tent and the colors, great backyard tent for the little ones and getting them used to camping in the wild. It’s got great views, ton of window views when not in dark mode. Plus my favorite part…only takes 5 minutes to set up because it’s a pop up tent!!!🏕️
