Yup! She swept the major critics' organisation Best Supporting Actress awards (LA, NYFCC, NSFC) in 2009 as well as the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and BAFTA.
Mo'Nique deserved that Oscar! She gave a powerful performance in quite a disturbing film. Sidibe, Mo'Nique, Patton, Carey and Kravitz gave great performances!
@@michaelverbakel7632 The film is terrifying but incredibly realistic - portrayed the cycle of abuse and what that does to a person. Monique's character of Mary is pure evil. It is a hard watch, but well worth it.
Wow robin williams handed monique her oscar..she deserved it so much!! What a honor to have ur oscar handed to u but the great-later robin williams 👏👏👏👏🌟🌟👑
It gives such joy that Robin was asked by the Academy to be there, because the previous year's winner was Heath Ledger. It was a nice choice, and no other past Oscar winner could have done it better than him.
Monique is brilliant in this film. The work was raw and pure. I won’t venture a guess how she tapped into the emotion but I felt her pain and the moment she realized what she had done was everything. The film is difficult to watch but it’s well worth staying with it to witness the sublime work that both Monique and Gabby performed. They both had arguably some of the best moments ever captured on film.
thank you for uploading this with the scenes after they announce each nominee...the Oscars channel doesnt do that, its nice to be reminded and actually see why they were nominated...and Mo'Nique was crazzzzy good in Precious, and deserved that gold, especially in the last scene at the Welfare office, so freakin sad...my respect for her skyrocketed after this movie
If you like oscar nominations my channel is dedicated to collating actors' performances. I have received some nice feedback and would love for you to check it out, new video out very soon :)
Totally agree! I LOVE when the clips are included. Great seeing them opposite each other and seeing what each actor/actress brought. Especially with roles like Viola Davis in Doubt, who was only in it for 8 minutes.
Monique was absolutely heart broken when Robyn Williams died. Monique was outstanding on the movie precious. The movie will forever stand the test of time.
Monique deserves more. The movie is such an iconic role for her because she played it perfectly. I watched the whole movie and I felt it. In my soul. I had goosebumps throughout the entire film. She deserves more iconic parts. More movies. More awards. I love her.
her monologue is pure art, i thank the universe for being able to watch it in mother language without missing a single tone, a single word, a single emotion she portraied so beautifully , somethiing that leaves scars , marks you knowing that is not far from reality, and she sure looked for real!!!!
I know the Academy never give a breakdown of votes for the five nominated performances but I would hazard a guess that Mo'nique received about 90% of the votes in her category. One of the best wins in this category.
One of my most favorite Oscar races ever! Mo'Nique was always gonna win it anyway, but the others made it a good fight! As for Mo'Nique she is still a winner whatever speech she gave, she's still the woman!
If you read the book Push then you know that Mo'nique WAS MARY JONES! Every award she won for that role SHE DESERVED! She didn't play the game they way THEY wanted her to play but, that still does not take away from the fact that SHE DESERVED IT! See Lee Daniels lost me when he made that "reverse racism" comment! That was dumb! I haven't seen Mo'Nique play a role whether it was comedic, or dramatic that she hasn't knocked out of the park. She personally thanked him at every other award show except this one. Sorry but, I believe her!
She got paid $50,000 and she did her job most excellently. She promoted the movie on Oprah. They wanted her to fly herself to promote the movie in Cannes but she declined. The issue here is Lee Daniels is a drama queen and he tried to ruin her cause he felt hurt. He's the problem.
The performance and not the politics is such a gold statement from Mo’Nique when accepting the award ✨ Big bravo to her for standing her ground in that moment. Katherine Hepburn who is hailed as a gold standard for acting work was nominated numerous times, and snubbed the academy again and again by not even appearing at the ceremony. Yet no one dragged her name through the mud and Hollywood kept calling her up for roles till she finally clocked out of the game.
I wanted to cry when they said her name. We Came along way and black people going with the flow is why we keep getting low balled, just cause someone throw money your way don't be YES MASTA SURE NUFF MASTA. You go girl Monique!!
Mo'Nique definitely deserved that Oscar. Her role as Precious's mom was definitely a role I feel that really took a turn on a lot of people especially me. Her role meant when someone makes you fall you have to get up and keep fighting. ✊🏆
When you find yourself hating that such woman receives an *✴Academy Award❇* then you realize she absolutely deserves it👏... she dwarfed the competition.
Not only is she a superb actress but that was a superb speech. Short, to the point and absolutely riveting. So very different from the usual long, drawn out, lovely speeches.
Monique was made to play that role and it was well deserved. I watched her in charm school and loved her because she does not play, and will tell you what it is, which is a good characteristic to have in this dog eat dog world. I watched the movie because saw little parts of it and knew I had to watch. Sometimes I had to look away I’m not gonna lie , and I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to play that character but it was believable 100% she rocked!
RIP Robin Williams and RIP Heath Ledger! Usually the best supporting actor from the previous year presents best supporting actress the next year, the previous year was Heath Ledger
classy talented lady...nods to trail blazer Hetty McDaniel and decided to look like BillIe Holliday on the night, totally deserved her Oscar, she was terrifying in Precious
So when I got to these videos and read the comments, you always see people disagreeing on who should have won. But I haven’t found a single person who thought Mo’Nique didn’t deserve the Oscar. It’s amazing!
Did she thank Lee Daniels? I am wondering if they were already starting to feud here being that the movie was already out and she won an academy award for it. She did thank Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, yet still. What was that look from Samuel L Jackson @5:59? Lol, does anyone know? I am here on June 24, 2022 at 3:22 a.m. Of course a video brought me here.
He knew what she was talking about & the repercussions she would face. Remember, she didn't campaign for any of the awards that year, yet, she swept the entire season.
SHE DESERVED IT! I WISH THE CLIP COULD HAVE SHOWED HER GIVING THE SPEECH ABOUT HOW THAT WAS THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST BLACK PERSON AND THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN TO WIN AN OSCAR
Precious remains one of my favorite movies and I bought the book too. It’s an insanely beautiful, horrific film about real things that happen to real people. Definitely not for everyone. I read about how Mo’nique had to hug it out with her co-stars often because she script itself was traumatizing. Definitely deserved.
She was a complete evil bitch in precious that we were all scared of especially in real life. But Monique and her personality is something strong and emotional that this world needs
Rebel without a clue killed her career and threw away millions of dollars by not acknowledging the director who gave her a huge opportunity. How much did Oprah get paid for the Color Purple? We don't hear her complaining about the contract she signed or the promotions she did for the movie because she was smart enough to know that the role would make her a household name. Monique was blackballed, she committed career suicide!
Wow Monique what an amazing speech. My feedback is we need to see more of you like this, and far less of you spewing first thing that comes to your mind. You speak so well, you had the room liking your speech being real, and you know how fake Hollywood is. I wished you would've been this articulate throughout all the things you've said, because that's where your power is. People like and will listen to you when you do. I'm sorry things took a turn the way they did.
Monique deserved her Oscar. She scared the hell outta me in Precious!
IKR! I had to watch The Parkers after I watched this. Nikki never treated Kim like that!
Yup! She swept the major critics' organisation Best Supporting Actress awards (LA, NYFCC, NSFC) in 2009 as well as the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and BAFTA.
Yes true natedoggg 🤩🤩🤩👍👍
I didn’t know it was her until I watched it a couple times

MY FAV, MISS HIM MUCH 🥺😍
Mo’nique was MILES ahead of those other performances. No way she should have lost. That is one of the great dramatic supporting performances EVER.
"Should have lost" implies that she DID lose. I think you meant "Would have lost."
That was her moment and nobody cant take that away from her.
Nope glow 🤩🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💜💜

Dam right
OMG...nobody can take that away from her.
SHE WON AN OSCAR, A GG AND A SAG AWARD FOR THIS ROLE! She killed it.
And an image award
Mo'Nique deserved that Oscar! She gave a powerful performance in quite a disturbing film.
Sidibe, Mo'Nique, Patton, Carey and Kravitz gave great performances!
She made me scared of her in that movie. But one thing is said she proved that she can be a great actress.
I've never seen the film. My question is does Monique have a last name and why won't she use it. I still don't know what it is.
@@michaelverbakel7632 The film is terrifying but incredibly realistic - portrayed the cycle of abuse and what that does to a person. Monique's character of Mary is pure evil. It is a hard watch, but well worth it.

A comedy legend and Oscar winner handing Mo’Nique her award must’ve been a dream come true for her
" I wanna thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all that she had to, so I would not have to" You were terrific M'Onique. Well deserved.
It's honestly beautiful how she paid tribute to her
"enduring"....
So I that would not...WTF are you saying???

What's with the anger
She earned it.. she was believable and outstanding .. but first and for most..believable

Monique and Gabourey both deserved a oscar that night! They put their heart and soul into that damn movie.

This is a pivotal yet unnerving moment that would change Mo’Nique’s career. She deserved that Oscar.
She deserved the Oscar. Superb actor.
One of the most-deserved wins in Oscars history.
Yes, indeed!!!
I was happy when she was announced as the winner. She was brilliant in precious.
Gabourey Sidebe should have won best actress for Precious, too. I love Sandra Bullock but Sidebe is more deserving for the acting award that night
Sandra Bullock is so overrated 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I think it would have boiled down to Sidibe vs. Mirren. Mirren was bonkers and just crazy in The Last Station!
I second that.
I know the Academy never give a breakdown of votes for the five nominated performances but I would hazard a guess that Mo'nique received about 90% of the votes in her category. One of the best wins in this category.

They should do clip packages like this every year. So great to see more than just 5-10 seconds.
Agree on that.
Not really, looks like a trailer! Better that flashy Oscar moment that justifies the nomination!
This was GREAT, and presented by Robin Williams, here after club shay shay❤

She was amazing in a movie that I found it hard to watch . I hope she is able to act in incredible movies again. Wow
She thanked Hattie McDaniel 😭🙏🏻
Another of those very rare moments when the academy got it right. She was breaking ground with that role!
Just finished watching Precious and she ABSOLUTELY deserved to win. Just a raw, jaw-dropping performance.
