Maybe not - sell oil/gas/minerals for yuan, use those funds to pay for munitions from N Korea, which in turn uses them to purchase goods (probably weapons and military aide, rather than critically needed food, etc, for the people) from China.

That's a strange way to look at this. I mean Russia is screwed, but that has little to do with the Yuan. Does the Yuan give China a huge advantage? Sure, but your argument relies on China not already having that huge advantage. It makes no difference at this point what China uses to buy the gas.

Also, if trying to broker a deal to sell gas through a pipe that is connected to one customer, that customer has all the bargaining power. It's not like Russia can say "OK we'll just move that end of the pipe over to India"

No choice, all midEast friends and non-friends already have their own gas fields. Gas is needed in "production countries" - China is the closest. To get to India or Nigeria - ru needs LNG projects going, but those closed because of Western technologies and expertise withdrawn.

What is npt mentioned though, is how Russia is possibly paying for all the military aide that China "Isn't" suppling. Like all them flak jackets that "were not found" or the "chinese chips and components" that were not found by Ukrainian soldiers. The video did not mention that China requires their payments to be made in Yuan and not the Rubles as Russia wanted. This further erodes the Ruble, and Russia has ended up with a pile of Yuan that can only be spent in China. China has massively outplayed an obviously desperate and weakened Russia.

US too has a 20 years of LNG gas supply to China. When the Ukraine war started, never had China thought that it will turned out to be a windfall when they started to resell those LNG gas to EU at a huge profit!

Russia has endless land and resources but not enough money and manpower to exploit that resources and land while China has an insane surplus of manpower and money and desire for those resources Russia has. Except it has been attacking ships on "their claimed waters" everyday. Also attacks on India several times each year on the mountains. Russia has already given the border river between Russia and North Korea for China, including the rights to dig the riverbanks to allow bigger ships, which they likely read as a sign that Russia is loosing its grip of Asia.
Your treatment of the revolution of dignity is very pro-Russian. For example, it wasn't the failure to sign to European Association agreement (which was largely a symbolic gesture) that sparked mass protests. It was the fact that Yanukovich signed Russian-style anti-protest laws, criminalizing ALL protest.

Makes me *really* wonder exactly what Xi knew, when he knew it, and especially, what he anticipated. I think they made the first deal just in case they were going to invade Taiwan. They wanted a second life line to get energy that wasn't from the Middle East where the US/Allies would cut them off if they decided to invade Taiwan.

Even I, an idiot knew China would start taking advantage of Russia for everything from cheap oil to selling expensive black market items. Heck I read China vendors wouldnt import Russian products unless they were getting a good deal.

This last meeting though was something I didn't expect. I figured they'd come to some agreement, but from all accounts? Xi made some insane demands.
What's crazy is Russia built their part of the second oil line before China even did any part of theirs. What were they thinking?
Putin in his quest to cement a legacy of rebuilding Russia to its former glory really put a nail in the coffin. Russias demographic issue with their insane death rate caused by alcoholism, and low birth rate was an issue. Now half a million Russians are dead with millions more of their brightest, and well off leaving the country.
It is quite insane that their master plan just back fired, and cascaded all around them leaving them not yet broken, but on its way while being isolated.
I think he simply saw how Russia was unable to follow the rest of the world. Putin's Russia never moved from being a gas station that has literally nothing else to sell, and in a world where tech is gonna move mountains Russia was already perfectly positioned to depend on others.
Then Xi saw how Putler acted and predicted that with the right help he would finally decide to antagonize the whole world and become a chinese slave at last.

Who's going to build these pipelines. All the Russian manpower has moved away or been injured or killed in Ukraine?
Good point. Also, the Russian approach to this kind of project is to get the customer to pay for the infrastructure costs, and China refused. The pipeline is not going to happen.

Previously, (Pre-sanctions) it was a shocking amount of Americans building pipeline equipment. It paid significantly better to work out of country.

This video misrepresents what happened. Ukraine had a far reaching economic agreement with Russia for years. EFTA would have been double dipping... Allowing Ukraine to re-export Russian products, goods energy, etcetera to EFTA market undercutting Russia. It could not have been maintained, so Ukraine would have lost cheap energy source. Due to that, Yanukovych was hesitant to take on EFTA agreement, because EFTA did represent "what could be", but would have broken everything established, such as cheap Russian energy, and established major income streams in cooperation with Russia and Belarus. It wasn't just some ideological thing, the EFTA shift would burned the bridge the entire economy was based on at the time.
I bet the Ukrainians are interested in the well being of that pipeline.

@@michaelj.beglinjr.2804 The UK sources 30% of its gas needs from the North Sea, 40% from Norway and roughly 20% from the US. The remainder it imports from 11 countries none of which are Russia. Some of the Norwegian gas is stored over summer and then exported to Europe in Winter taking advantage of seasonal price variations. No everyone in Europe were not buying gas from Russia. Germany certainly did but that was another of Germanys strategic blunders, now corrected.
