Not a military analyst, just a guy who reads history books, but I’m surprised no one is considering that this could be a Heraclian gambit. Rather than go after the entrenched occupying forces on seized Byzantine territory Heraclius conducted maneuver warfare in enemy territory with the intention of destabilizing the Sassanid regime by increasing the perceived cost of the war to the aristocratic class that underpinned the King’s power and either weakening or toppling the King from within. Eventually his strategy paid off and Khosrow the Second was toppled by an internal coup. In subsequent negotiations with weaker regimes Heraclius was able to recover all the lost Byzantine territories. An attempt to weaken Putin’s standing with the Russian elite seems like at least a plausible explanation for the Ukrainian offensive into Kursk.

As a Ukrainian, I want to clarify a few things. Russia has forced us into a trench warfare situation reminiscent of WWI. In this kind of war, we stand little chance because Russia has much larger economic, military, and human resources. We can't win these head-on battles. Our advantage lies in maneuver warfare with tactical operations. Russia struggles with this type of warfare due to its low-quality officers, rigid command structure, and long decision-making chain. However, since Russia has built complex fortifications along the front line in the occupied territories of Ukraine, we have no choice but to attack where they least expect it.. Additionally, there’s another reason that's not so obvious. Putin’s so-called 'peace plan' to freeze the current battle lines won't work if we manage to capture some Russian territories.
Exactly, it’s an operation that plays to our strengths and the enemy’s weaknesses, which also gives us the advantage of a bargaining chip and the potential of a large distraction to pull Russian man power away from the more fortified front line to allow other openings to regain our territory
There are two problems in your analyse. First, Russian trades always land for time in war, second, Donbas people might have a different opinion about the occupation.
Russia being able to move freely around Ukraine while Ukraine not being able to freely go after their supply lines has been a big reason Russia could supply their southern lines so well. Giving Ukraine freedom to fight on equal playing ground is game changing. Russia’s been able to say “I’m out of bounds! No tagsies!” for 2 years now. Now there’s no out of bounds.
@@Elatenl That's not the primary goal of this operation. The war will likely end through negotiations, especially if the 'orange man' wins the elections. The Ukrainians might aim to capture as much Russian territory as possible and fortify their position, strengthening their leverage in future talks. In other words, they could say, 'Return our land, and we'll return yours.

Phallic indeed. I am concerned though that we are going to see a repeat of the Battle of the Bulge if UA aren't careful about protecting their rear flanks. Russia has been very successful with the cauldron maneuver.
@@yevgeny79 The original Battle of Bulge failed because of a lack of material and resources. The same as the Ukraine. It would be better to concentrate on the crumbling defense lines in the Donbas region as on that PR-stunt.
The more bizarre part of the gas pipeline is not that it's running through Ukraine and that it has been unaffected by the war but the fact that Russian government controlled Gasprom company that owns the pipeline has been diligently paying Ukraine for the transit of gas to Europe. One can tell that this oddly uninterrupted Russian-Ukrainian gas transit deal has been contributing to Ukrainian annual budget. So, yes, in an odd and round about way, Russia is helping fund Ukrainian war effort against Russia lol. It goes to show that big money transcends the war and will continue to conduct its business despite the hostilities. I doubt Ukrainians will do anything to the gas pipe - that pipe is dear to both Russians and Ukrainians.
@@spikelol9928 Indeed. If Ukraine touched the pipes, Europe will turn against them. If Russia touched the pipes, Europe will triple the war effort to Ukraine. Pipes are the pandora box for both side.
There is a common story about how when Ukrainian troops asked their German trainers how to deal with mines, they were told to "go around them." I'm not sure how truthful this story is, but Ukraine definitely went around the fortified areas alright.
Not really. The russians were demining the area to launch a Sumy offensive. The Ukrainians spotted it and launched this pre-emptive campaign through the breach the Russians created themselves
Russia has been incredibly arrogant and gullible. Complacency and lack of imagination in terms of estimating potential enemy strategies... In a week, Ukraine would've gained more than Russia did in the last half year. Meanwhile, I'm assuming Ukraine DID have shortfalls and did complain (more) about it for half a year, but they've probably rationed their supplies for one unexpected but concentrated push in a direction that lacks proper manpower or equipment. It's a war and in essencew there is nothing hilarious about that. That being said, Ahmat has been the comedy relief of this war. Defending Russian territory is crucial for Russia, when Russia gets invaded, they can't call it a "special operation" and it becomes obvious to the Russian people that this is a war that IS affecting them. It's not just something that happens to others in a neighboring country.
Even though this is effectively a war, and even though the Ukraine invasion of Russia is enough to justify declaring (officially) a war, I don't think the Russian leadership is in a position to do that. It would be an extremely unpopular move.
Russia is calling it a raid and terrorist attack. Most of the Russian people will believe this because they are brainwashed sheep. Only the people who ACTUALLY see the invasion will believe it.
From things I have heard is that reason why this invasion happened is because it's basically impossible right now for Ukraine to push though Ukrainian territory due to fortifications and mines. There does not exist enough or good enough demining equipment that removes the mines in a way Russians are planting them, and while convicts and conscripts are bad while on offensive, they are much better at defense. Things like artillery, mines, fortification, anti air and so on are perfect for defense, and that is what Russia is specializing in and have plenty of. This is why the Kursk offensive is so important, it's basically the only way to quickly regain areas of Ukraine, as it is the one place where Ukraine can fight Russian soldiers without caring about mines, fortifications or destroyed infrastructure. Even if there were were 1/10 of the Russian soldiers in Donbas, it would still be very difficult, as demining equipment relies on reasonable amount of mines being in a given area, but many times Russians will just stack 2 or 3 anti tank, which will damage the demining vehicle, and you cant do it by hand, as some mines have an anti personel mine underneath, which explodes when you try to remove the anti tank mine. The density of the anti tank mines is also inconsistent, sometimes even so close they trigger each other, which adds to the problem. Attacking Russian territory is the best way to relieve Ukrainians on the frontlines, its not abandoning them.
What if Ukraine made many tiny invasions of Russian territory, and with each excursion planted million of mines? That to me seems a pretty reasonable way of forcing the enemy to spend lots of time and lives disabling mines.
The lack of progress isn't just from mines and fortifications. It's mainly the artillery that's protecting the minefields that makes it impossible to clear them effectively. NATO would just use massive cruise missile and air power attacks to destroy the air defenses protecting the artillery, then destroy the artillery, then clear a path in minefields. That's not an option for Ukraine. They can't strike the air defenses en masse, so they can't get to the artillery. Meanwhile, Ukraine is able to move quickly inside Russia without the thick defenses and vehicles not being blocked by mines.
I follow everything in Russian so checked this video for curiousity. Positively impressed with accurate details, objective truthfulness, and quality materials. Good job!

There's one aspect I haven't heard mentioned: Ukrainian troops can't be hit at the pumping station. The station is *extremely* valuable, and it's made of equipment produced in Europe. Near the end you mention more small generating stations. You said 50 milliwatts (mW) or 0.05 W (watts). That is electronics levels. You meant 50 megawatts (MW) or 50,000,000 watts. Unfortunately in Ukraine a lot of power generation are central heating and power (CHP) plants where they provide both heating (hot water or steam) and electricity to a community. That arrangement is rare in North America. So it is harder to replace those plants than just dropping in a 50 MW LM6000 gas turbine to make electricity as heat generation equipment is needed too.

EU is also buying more Russian LNG than before while giving weapons to Ukraine to kill Russians so that's weird too.

Amazing work chris.
Defending Russian territory is crucial for Russia, when Russia gets invaded, they can't call it a "special operation" and it becomes obvious to the Russian people that this is a war that IS affecting them. It's not just something that happens to others in a neighboring country.
Their propagandists have gone into overdrive to play it down.
Dude this is not an invasion. It's "terrorists" with tanks and Strykers....
No shit it’s happening right on their borders
@@langhamp8912 Where are they gonna get _"millions of mines?"_
@@langhamp8912 please think we'll before posting
The lack of progress isn't just from mines and fortifications. It's mainly the artillery that's protecting the minefields that makes it impossible to clear them effectively. NATO would just use massive cruise missile and air power attacks to destroy the air defenses protecting the artillery, then destroy the artillery, then clear a path in minefields. That's not an option for Ukraine. They can't strike the air defenses en masse, so they can't get to the artillery.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is able to move quickly inside Russia without the thick defenses and vehicles not being blocked by mines.

The station is *extremely* valuable, and it's made of equipment produced in Europe. Russia can't get replacements - not domestically, not even from China. And lead times are years anyway. We live in weird times where one country attacks another but the country under attack is still allowing gas and fuel to pass from the country that's attacking them. That's weird

Now Russia cannot do that, unless they measure how much gas they pumped themselves. However, that's like installing your own natural gas meter in your house and telling your provider that your gas meter shows you only used half the gas you usually do. This is a solvable issues, but it puts political pressure on Russia right where it hurts.
That's exactly what my assumption was as soon as I heard it was a metering station and they weren't destroying pipelines.
Now you can just unplug the meter and all of your allies get fuel for free.
In a highly simplified version of course.
These videos are so thorough and well edited I’m hoping you make a living just doing this it’s so well done
Its not an "invasion" it's a "special military operation"
With regular russian army getting involved. Not just special forces
@@АлександрМолния2it’s all the Russian “special forces” if you catch my drift 😂

Excellent commentary!
It's the classic ww2 strategy. If you can't get through the defensive line, just walk around it.
To cut opposite supply lines or to attack from rear, yes. That's what's happening right now? I doubt it.
Cappy keep it up man. I thoroughly enjoy your content regarding military commentary - all topics - it’s educational and you keep it real!
Extremely high quality content thank you for the obvious effort
Thank you so much for the breaking news of the objectives
Great video. The detail and factors you are considering are exceptional.
Appreciate the work, man!
An excellent insight into the situation. Wonderfully brave and aggressive move by Ukraine.
So sad that popular media has all but forgotten this conflict which is crucial for Europe....and all the world
Thx for this nice video!
I think they go for Kursk 3-4 and Kursk II 1-2, that give Ukraine same ratio to exchange for Energodar NPP
me slapping the bed of my Toyota pickup ttruck: "I can fit so many 50milliWatt generators in this baby."
What a comprehensive piece of work, thanks!
Yeah! I'm extremely impressed by how extensive this Analysis Video is! It has clearly required an incredible amount of Work, including so much Research, and I really feel that this Video's overall Quality is a lot better than the average from this Channel, which is crazy when you think about how much *more* Work this has been, AND it's of improved Quality!
Of course, there are little Editing & dubbing mistakes here and there, but I feel that it was inevitable in order to Release this as soon as possible while it's at its highest level of relevancy!
This video is better than anything coming from the new networks or larger documentary producers. This channel has become one of my 'go-to's' for information on war news whether in Ukraine or Gaza.
One of your best videos so far!
I’m not sure if this has already been noted but, is it just me or does the map at 0:11 look like a big middle finger? Could we be overcomplicating this? Could this be the objective?
Great video mang. By far the best one I’ve seen on this topic yet. Me like Task & Purpose
Thank you for this update
Cappy, thanks for being objective and giving us facts from both sides. I cannot stand echo chambers and frankly, most channels covering this conflict is either super biased for Ukraine or for Russia and you really only hear that one side is winning, usually conflicting with each other. So thanks my dude, great work!
Man, this situation is just crazy. Feels like we're living through a history book 📖🤯 Watching your coverage makes it all a bit clearer at least. Keep it up 👍✌️
