Why are people who disagree with the concept, and end product, trolls and and ignorant.? Perhaps those that have watched the video have concluded, as did I, that they are fragile and not suited to the task. In my opinion, cutesy. And to quote the makers... "symbols". My experience is that "symbols" are often caricatures rather than items of substance. And that is my observation. I do not fault the workmanship. I do have the cash, and no sale. I do have the experience and skills to build one, but would not. I would build something far more utilitarian with more substantial materials. . It is just a simple matter of design, materials and workmanship. What one man can do, another can do. Why slag people you do not know who just may have the ability , not only to make one of these, but something more suited to the intended purpose.

I know a thing or two about trailers...you’re doing a nice job, your passion shows in your craftsmanship. Ignore the people who live pay check to pay check and only find happiness in being critical of what they can’t afford or appreciate.
it's not critisizing if some guys write their opinion after watching the video (that's what comments are for) and i do feel 12k is a "bit" much for what you get.
My suggestion to the detractors below would be this: 1.) Design a similar trailer yourself; 2.) Build it in a way that reflects the same quality of design and craftsmanship, using your own tools; 3.) Keep track of your time and material expenses; 4.) Sell it for a price that compensates you for the monetary value of your time, materials, aesthetic value, and adaquate profit. After you've done the above, come back to this comment section, and see if your perspective hasn't shifted just a bit.
Keep in mind that aesthetic value is subjective , not objective, and would vary greatly. Adequate ( not "adaquate" profit) is likewise a variable. Se my comments above for the application of the subject trailer in the video.. fragile. Not what I would have in mind for an off road unit.
Tom, extremely well put! People get very confused about the idea of size vs. value, and given how huge the home-built teardrop community is, people generally think only of the cost of the materials, not the labor involved to build a high quality durable teardrop. I build high-end teardrops as well (also with my brother), and we have 6500 square feet to pay for, utilities, insurance, employees, etc etc etc... We have to charge enough for our teardrops to pay for the material, overhead, and a little profit to keep the company moving forward. It's always shocking to see people make the argument that the cost of the trailer should be equal to the cost of the materials.
Blackmadmonk, EXACTLY the companies I was thinking of, better build, with a base price starting at $5500, not $12000. Also, you are going to have a product that lasts a hell of a lot longer then these tin can an that will rip apart at the first tree branch that touches them. Rick, what the builder/owner says we have to extremely careful not to touch the aluminum or we ruin it... that is all the evidence needed. Also Eyes, mine work, you should go get checked out.
Thats a lot for a bit of wood covered in thin aluminium put on a basic base & wheels. There's an australian version with fold down bed, seating, kitchen etc.
doesent matter if it is hand made... 16.000 its way overpriced, that frame its light, no brakes, no solar panel no running water its way overpriced im sorry, ive built my own 22 feet car haulers with 2 axles brakes and everything for less than 5.000
Don't be fooled by a video that makes it look like they're slapping together an easy kit. You've seen the Reader's Digest version of construction. There is a lot of craftsmanship that goes into almost every facet of these trailers along the way. I'd say that if you don't want to buy one...don't buy one. But don't talk smack about some guys who are doing a stellar job at creating a beautiful product. Or make one yourself for next to nothing, if you're convinced it's so easy and cheap.
I would consider buying or sending out all the aluminum and wood to a CNC operation and enjoy the detail and creative stuff you obviously excel at . Awesome product!
Luv it! Always wanted one, but the vintage ones can be 4 times the cost. You have a great idea and if you have buyers who value having this type of experience and don't want to go through the challenge of learning your craft, setting up the shop , purchasing all the equipment, design phase, and the time to take on a project like this ..... this is worth it. Time is money and most are better served doing what they do best and paying others for the same. Good luck for following your dream. Now that takes guts!
Nice a family owned and operated business is the best job I have ever had although we don't have a business now, my father retired, but those were the days, good times good stuff, good memories. Love your product, very simple, well engineered, K.I.S.S. this is something that could become a collector's type item with time. Thanks for sharing later my brothers. Honestly, I love this thing and I would really like to own one, but the price is ridiculous when you look at what you're getting. I understand it may be higher quality but in my case I have a 6 ft. bed in my truck and I can easily fit an insulated, windowed/screened, lighted, "air-conditioned", camper shell and put a decent bed in at a FRACTION of the cost... Cut the cost in half and we'll talk :p

Ok so what sort of features does one get for 12-16k ??? A gas stove ? A bed? Seems like all they offered was a 3 speed fan and some led lights and a spare tire?
Materials should be about $5k for this, for a base model with a pump, sink, water tank, battery, fan, lights, mattress and spare tyre. There are lots of teardrop builds online with people breaking down their costs, it's there or thereabouts, depending on quality. Then you have 2 weeks of labour for 3 people, what's that, up to a couple hundred bucks a day each? That's $5k or more. Add business overheads, rent, utilities, depreciation of the tools, plus maybe a 10-15% margin (and sales tax, is there such a thing in the US?) and you're easily at $12.5k sell price. With accessories like roof racks, awnings, fridge/cooler, various mounts etc you can easily add thousands. So the high price comes mainly from the fact that they are a small manufacturing operation in a western country with high labour costs. Whether that has some value to you as the consumer is a different story, apparently it must have to some people as they seem to be getting some orders. Helps that's a nice product too, they've really nailed the design IMO. As they grow bigger and start ordering pre cut parts, maybe install a CnC, place bulk orders etc they should be able to offer a lower price. Until then maybe make your own, it looks like a fun project :) Although it looks more like 6 months work for one person with a morning job. Edit: the offroad comment is valid IMO, they said off road, not full on Rubicon stuff. The trailer should be fine for touring on unsealed roads and the like, and the low weight is a huge plus.
For that kind of money, you can buy a pretty dependable SUV, cargo van, or truck and convert the back into a customized sleeping area and more. Don't give me that "feel of wood and sense of solitude" sales pitch BS!

they keep emphasizing that they are using minimal tools, if they did sell at least 2 of this campers they should have enough to get all the required advance tools and machinery. after all this is a very simple build that does not require any special skill . considering that they are 3 workers .

sry guys but the price is way too much, i have seen way sturdier mostly hand made offroad tear drops for not even half the price in the base model wich has more stuff than this tear drop. only because you drop the word vintage here and there is no excuse for the heavy price.

And what the hell are you making it out of only wood for if this is for off-road this will be destroyed in days put a aluminum underlining and cover the entire thing in bed liner !!! And if anyone doesn’t no how to make there own trailer shouldn’t be going off roading either granted you might not have all the skills but these things are simple to fabricate and if you do it your self you will make it better and much stronger and you can personalize it and make it bigger !!
Nice trailer for the guy that wants to stand out and be seen as that special outdoorsman. If you have the money then buy what makes you happy. Don't justify someone taking time in making a product as being the best product made. It's a small, over built, teardrop box, with a couple of lights and a fan, on a home depot trailer.

I'm certain that I've seen plans online for these things but they were called "great lakes campers" I also agree with others that glued wood ain't gonna last while offroading. just a suggestion but I'd learn to weld aluminum and get rid of the wood entirely. I do like your base idea though, but keep moving forward guys!

They make sure not to "bump" them in the shop or they have to replace the aluminum, but their OK to take off road.
