    Interesting experiment!
    Ive had good luck with Jsb pellets yet [ordered from AirGunSource canada]
    The only dammaged pellets I received "from Jsb" got banged during shipping
    {Visual dammage on the tin}
    In the other hand I could throw 1/3 Gamo pellets in the used lead bin...
    [No tin dammage]
    I rarely find bent Crosman pellets tho!

    Lol, seeing how you handled the box you look like you could fit right in with hermes but you wouldn't last because it made to the door 🤣😂 very interesting test 😳

      Lol yeah it was funny flinging it about.
      Doesn't look like they are half as fragile as we thought, I'll run them all side by side and see what the accuracy is like. But I guarantee mate,if I gave you that first tin,you'd be none the wiser what had happened to them

    It’s the lack of quality control! They come deformed from the factory! 3 years ago I bought a box of 5 tins of Falcon Accuracy Plus pellets in .22 cal from Uttings that were all damaged and the tins were in mint condition!

    I would have thought that the rejects found by JSB would just be fed back into the melting pot. Most of the value must be in the raw material. The damage to the companies reputation by shipping poor quality pellets would far outweigh the gain.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I'm a little stumped really. I know so many people that buy direct from the factory and never see as much as a bent skirt.
      I dont know wehter they could just lob any mis shapes back in the same melting pot as the alloy would end up the wrong ratio I'd imagine. But they could be collected up and redone as a full batch. Maybe that's what us used for the basic ranges? Dunno that's just supposition though

    I've had mixed fortunes with jsbs from a tin of 100% ok to significant numbers of damaged skirts. What I did discover was that a 10 quid pellet resizer fixed virtually all and gave me excellent downrange results. Single 5mm hole at 13m using .177s

      Where did you get the resizer?

    The last three tins of .22 I've had (mail order) have been well packed but one tin was slightly dented. Each tin has had I would estimate 20% badly deformed skirts (tin damaged & undamaged).
    I personally believe the alloy is softer & quality control has taken a dive.
    I've stopped buying them. I created a thread on Airgun Forum about it.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think the larger the caliber the more fragile the skirts might be? Or atleast more susceptible to damage?
      I've got a bunch of qys here for testing, and just received a small bag from a friend that were sent via post just in a jiffy bag no tin ..and they are immaculate. They are a much harder lead alloy though compared the jsb in .177 too.

    • @50caliber29
      @50caliber29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tillysgunstocks I found them very soft compared to tins I've had previously. Seriously easy to deform softly pinching with fingers.
      I got good results previously & the pellets were 98% undamaged. Only last quarter of 2021 I started seeing deterioration.
      I've never used 177 Exacts so can't comment on hardness comparison to 22.

    A brilliant post 🙏
    The AA Fields have foam in the base of the tin and on top, perhaps that’s why I haven’t had any problems ? I buy from a gun shop which might also be a consideration. Am going to order some on line and see what I get

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's almost always down to rough handling causing the damaged skirts, some of the packaging some retailers use is downright rubbish though, so quite understandable why some get battered in transit.

      Sadly I’m way down in Cornwall and we don’t have a good gunsmith in the county from my experience which to be honest is an awful situation so have to purchase my pellets when visiting relatives in Devon. So…ordering ‘on line’ is tempting but comes with a gamble. Going to do it just to see what I get, could be an expensive venture 🤣

    the pellets in the lathe, the will be forced down to the offset and stay there as the lathe was running fast. try a very slow speed so they are tumbling inside the tin. it's like spinning a bucket of water around.

    I’ve had AADF delivered from uttings and most tins had a lot of damaged pellets (uk to a uk address)
    Ordered 40 tins from olga in Germany and not one damaged pellet! Seriously none
    I’d say it’s all down to cut throat uk delivery companies !!

    Just joined a club thinking of airgunning a bit more seriously, now im thinking just how far do i go with the tolerances of these pellets etc. Its a far cry from the old Ely wasp .22's i used to use and re-use catching them in a loose tea towel dropped into a tin tray,then a light tap to reshape to save pocket money, 3'6d a tin was a lot then, 17.5p in new money

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe start with something like h&n ftt. Or some of the rws pellets. They will be a great start and sensible ish prices, run with it and see where the journey takes you.
      Try not to overthink things too much. Go shoot safe and have fun 😉

    I shoot jsb .25 and there are a few that the skirt is not cut clean. My problem is I clean my pellets in a Sonic cleaner with dish soap and water at about 170 degrees Fahrenheit dry them and size them. After that I lub them, mark the tin clean and sized. When I place the pellets in the mag I notice small bits of lead still in the skirt. This causes I believe to make the pellet wobble to the target. Cleaning with dish soap and water at temperature although cleans most of lead out of the pellets some still need to be removed with a dental pick. If you look in the center of the pellet you'll see the dull press from the machine stamping but you'll also see in about 10% with tiny bits of lead stuck in the side of the skirt. I believe that JSB uses a lub that causes lead dust to stick these pellets inside the skirt tail. Cleaning with soap and hot water doesn't always remove this. I'm shooting pellets with my FX M3 at 30 yards with 3 shot groups 1 small hole repeatedly. I've also clocked my barrel for this accuracy. I guess what I would like to know is what would clean pellets without degrading the lead. Soap and hot water isn't enough. Love your site thank you.

      Hi Ben, thanks for being part of my channel.
      In the uk with mainly sub12 rifles and a large majority in .177 ,not many of us go down the cleaning and full prep route.
      I've got some testing planned that might surprise you though.
      Our bench rest lads will often give the pellets a light wash, size and then hand select the best from each tin. But we are more concerned about finding the best batch in the first instance and we will often buy as many of that batch as we can.
      Even out to 75yds at sub 12, them tiny bits of dust make no real difference, however... confidence is key here. If it makes you feel more confident, then stick with it.
      I have had some poor batches of the old accupells a number of years ago,and I cleaned all the skirts out with a cotton bud. You know the little cotton tufts on a little stick.
      Maybe in the larger calibres such as .25 them flakes of dust might make a bigger difference down range. But personally given the mass of the pellet is much greater I'd think it makes less difference than we might imagine.
      It's sometimes easy to over complicate things looking for an edge, but it would be worth doing so testing of fully prepped pellets vs just out the same tin and checked OK by eye.
      Cheers
      Tommy

    These pellets are from the same factory as the AirArms Diabolo field, Czech Republic. I am pissed off with my airarms pellets as the skirts are dented. Cant believe on the tin it says 'world class'. They're the most expensive too!. Qc down the pan.

    Proper job! Watching recent tours of the JSB and H&N factories by AEA, I could see where there are potential areas where inconsistency can occur with JSB (QA). This isn't courier/transport damage, it's batch inaccuracy/damage in the factory that's overlooked at QC. This is also why AA/Daystate/FX pellets can be either good or very bad - they're single batch, but the same material and no extra QC (or QA). Personally, on average, I'd go for mixed batch standard production. From a manufacturing POV, H&N had better QA - their swaging and smelting looks better, as was their QC and they have a simpler process from lead wire to pellet. I suspect H&Ns and QYSs are slightly harder (more antimony) and their skirt design is more resistant - that makes them less liable to factory damage too. But from a very close look at lots (!) of pellets, QYS look more even and consistent than JSB or even H&N BFT, even if they might not shoot better in your gun. There's question: why are barrels pellet sensitive? Or pellets barrel sensitive..!? My FX Crown MK2 177 sub-12 shoots JSB Exacts like a shotgun, H&N BTF/QYS like a laser.

    Now i know this is over a year old but i bought a tin of JSB 22 15.6 grain pellets if i remember rightly at the beginning of August 2023 with no visible damage to the tin whatsoever
    The quality has alas not improved I can confirm unfortunately
    out of tin of 500 peiiets i had 189 that were totally unusable
    squashed skirts and some were even misformed
    I honestly think they are going into the tins at the factory in that state
    to get damaged and misformed pellets in a full tin that in my mind screams lack of quality control somewhere in the process
    And to be brutally honest at £24,50 A tin I expect a superior product not a tin of crap
    if a British manufacturer sent out something of that quality for that price they would get slaughtered

    I’ve got a tin of aa’s .177 from a gun shop via ebay & half way through the tin i am discarding 1 in 3 pellets, never had this problem before. I can only assume they are seconds!

      @tillysgunstocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems its becoming more problematic,im fairly convinced there must be somewhere along the route they are getting damaged. I guess we will never really know?
      I dont know why they would put damaged ones in a tin,as they could just re melt them and go again. Dunno, but I'd like to find out for sure. I will probably do some more testing trying to replicate the decent packaging some firms use to send them.
