Yes, he was tortured but that should have killed him whilst he was in the machine. Unless he knew Chief was coming (I'm gonna place my bet that he didn't), it was either the machine, will or the fact that his injuries were more minor then what we know/thought. Now, I'm no medical expert, but I do know that he could have eternal bleeding (no evidence, but who gives a rats' ass?), and/or a an open wound (once again we only see that he was bleeding from the nose and mouth(?), so I'm gonna say ta,e ya pick.). But here's the kicker that gives me hope. He could have just passed out. From what I remember, it's the nural link that gives the Spartans' vitals. And that is located in the actual armor. But Griffen was stripped of that (unsure of the armor being the original source of the link. Like I said, I'm running off memory lol). So, running back to the point, he may have just been passed out. Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that his body disappears at some stage. I like to think of as going two ways: 1. Something got to him and well, as nature loves to work, 'disposed of the body', we'll say. 2. He woke up and found a way out. Both can go in a matter of other directions. Now, I'm torn between it being set in stone that he's dead, or not. Like 6, his death meant something. It was a spark off revenge. Something to drive us (the players, Chief), on. That said, he's an extremely interesting character. And his 'death' (I say/wrote that as such because it's a multiple way street) means something. I mean, the moment I saw it, let alone played through that mission gave me a feeling I've missed since Reach. A feeling of dread... and revenge. You want to get back at the split-lips for killing a Spartan. No, multiple. You want to rescue some. You want to get that adrenalin rush! And this mission... boy does it draw me to Keys and The Covenant from CE and 3. It sets ya up with hope. You think you can get there in time, you can save Keys, that you can save Miranda. But you can't. They're scripted to die. And it's this enviable feeling that drives you for and throughout the rest of the game. It was such a nice callback to what Bungi use to do. And it's great to see 343 taking notes. Another thing I like is that Griffen (and basically every other character you meet) didn't feel like a waste of space. I was talking to my brother about the Spartans, ending up on the 4's. And as I said to him, Griffen sells 'em to ya like 343 sells Infinite. Beautifully. The idea of 4's, at first, didn't bother me. But then they were written like a pizza with no cheese. Come to HW2 and finally, 343 has the art of writing Spartans down. At first, when I saw the leaks, I was skeptical. Was this gonna be a shit-show? Was i gonna wanna yeet the disc at a kid down the street? No. The moment you grab an audio log, the moment you hear about these Spartans, you might mistake them for 3's or maybe even a 2. And his V.A was amazing. I can't give the guy enough credit for making Griffen come alive. So for me, my opinion is biased lol. Griffen sits as one of my favourite Spartans, and that's a hard title to earn. He isn't the best, but you can tell he embodies the ideal Spartan 4 formula. A veteran soldier become legendary hero. Hopefully we see more of him in depth. So, what about Griffen's fate? Did he die? Did he survive? Well, like I said, it's a multiple way street. YOU can say he survived, or he died. You can also say that Jaga survived or died. There's proof for both, and it's not just what I covered. For me, I like to say that he made it out. Endured as Spartans do. I guess, like what the fate of many characters is, we'll never really know, but we can always hope. Stay safe, sorry for the rant.
@@AQG_Arts I have to say that you may have a point, since the same could be said with the Infinity, but I feel that 343 is saving the revive card for Locke. Back when I first played CE in the first mission, when I escaped with the Marines on that little ship I expected we are going to have an escape mission later, so walking out of that ship seeing all of the Marines are gone really hurt me a bit, even though I just got to know them for like 10 seconds. @Purple Emerald Really? I thought making the Master Chief the sole survivor of that crash supported the idea that he was a singularly exceptional soldier on which the outcome of the entire war depended. The manuals say as much about him. The end of the game also casts him as the sole survivor of the first Halo's destruction.
The message is that the one thing Chief uses to somehow get past all this is the mission and the outcome of success, The orders engraved in his head give his mind refuge as to him completing the mission will give everyone peace from war and that's enough for him to keep fighting, Note that he always instantly suggests to move forward after someone's death as to him grieving will weather his hope to keep pushing, A clear example is Cortana's death as you see he is fully broken begging to not let her go, He knows the battle is done and he was prepared to die but in the end Cortana's left him to an even worse state . The sad thing is usually whenever a battle is won another one starts. Poor Chief has to prioritize missions over the fallen for everyone's sake
0:20 "We're gonna make it, aren't we sir? I don't wanna die out here!" *Chief comforts him by touching his shoulder* Then they all die because of the crash...It's so sad that they didn't even get the chance of dying by fighting..

And as much as I like the idea that Griffin survived, I think his death could be more useful in the case of finding some other surviving Spartan, taking into account that infinity had more than 400. Also, if you play in cotrol with the vibration activated you can feel its heartbeat weaken to a stop.
@@ChrisSpartan-157 True. I'm gonna be honest with ya, I'm a big sucker for the whole 'sacrifice yourself for ...' as it makes a story worth it. That said, time to cover Locke:
We know from audio logs he survived, we also know from game pieces that he met the Banished. But deep down I pray he died. Man, I felt more for Griffen and the other Spartans we see then what I ever felt with Locke...
That aside, back to the main focus, humans are known for a very unique ability (not really but hear me out). There are true documentations (i say this because a shit ton are fake) that state that a person can be dead, but also alive. If I had more time I'd dive into it and give you links ect, but unfortunately I live in Aus, and time right now is against me lol.
I feel like this is, as I mention, a multiple way valley. He can be dead or alive or whatever. There is lore for all scenarios! That could mean that if enough people want to see more of this character they could.
Once again, I'd love to dive into this, but time is a bitch.
Stay safe and thanks for actually taking the time to read my stupid attempts at tying things in and up...
@@AQG_Arts Hate to break it to you but Griffin is dead. I only learned after I played through the campaign fully myself, but because I played on XBONE I found out afterwards that the controller was vibrating in tune with Griffin’s heartbeat, and after Chief says “Consider it done.” the controller stops vibrating.
And he even sees it more in the non-game material. I want to hug him like The Pilot, poor guy. Keep in mind he saved humanity multiple times
Back when I first played CE in the first mission, when I escaped with the Marines on that little ship I expected we are going to have an escape mission later, so walking out of that ship seeing all of the Marines are gone really hurt me a bit, even though I just got to know them for like 10 seconds. Good things we get to rescue other Marines later on a Warhog
Back when i first played halo 2, i always tried to save that one soldier who helps in the tutorial part of cairo station
Such a tragedy to be exposed to so much death
Poor chief had to watch his best friend die.....twice.
“Lucky Me”
Well yes but actually no Chief
Lucky me, no lucky friends

"We're gonna make it, aren't we sir? I don't wanna die out here!"
*Chief comforts him by touching his shoulder*
Then they all die because of the crash...It's so sad that they didn't even get the chance of dying by fighting..
I mean they did survive every other fight they were in, that's something to be proud of
I know we were all disappointed with the Fall of Reach movie, but Samuel was the first and one of the most important losses in his life and deserved to be on here.
Imagine dying in that escape pod and chief bouncing around crushing everything and every one
Intense pong
The Weapon: I don’t know how you keep doing this
Master chief: I don’t know maybe it’s my programming
At this point, I'm just waiting for Chief to snap and just become a seriously pissed off spartan that's about as brutal in methods, as jega.
But the silver lining is despite all these losses, at least Dustin Echoes got out. Hope he retired from the core and is chilling in Australia somewhere or something.
Cortana blew that place to hell (well Sydney), but ye I hope
About that...
Australia? Nah... How about New Phoenix
Dustin echoes is being referenced in halo infinite. Finaly some love for the OG charactets
I live in Australia....
10:49 was probably the most terrifying of all
Keyes still got it the worst of all, I think.

+1 for not cutting away from halo 1's ending cutscene too early
All living legends fallen but never forgotten, Halo is never gonna be the same without them
I love how Halo 2 and 5, the 2nd game each trilogy, didn't have any death scenes like these

Echo 216: do you have a family, love one , friends?
Master Chief: no
Echo 216: why you do this then? How?
Master Chief: is all I know
😔 when one lost all and only know how to fight … so one fights for a future generations that one could never see but know they can live in peace
He has Blue Team, Halsey and kinda Lasky
This is why Master Chief starts showing ALOOOOOOT of emotions on Halo Infinite.
You know I really wish Spartan Griffin played a bigger role in Halo infinite. Judging by the audiobooks he would have been an interesting character.
"Security to the birdge, the Master Chief has gone rogue. Take him down boys"
I am a bit annoyed that they only living Spartan saved was a dying Spartan considering that it is said that in one of the bases existed around 50 Spartans
For me it’s the way he died, given that he’s an augmented super soldier, it doesn’t make sense to me.
@@kaijenkins4513 they Likely had Griffin under Torture for Weeks, if not months, not to Mention Spartan IVs have less augmentation than Spartan IIs to allow for fully developed adults to be augmented.
@@Boom__6678 I understand what you’re saying and that’s true that there nothing like the IIs and IIIs but they’re still Spartans, they have things like artificial lungs and just being able to wear mjolnir alone says a lot. Honestly this is just a gripe and isn’t anywhere near as bad as Halsey surviving a punch to the face by Lucy or anything Brian Reed wrote outside of the FOR comic and Spartan Ops.
You figure Chief has been in combat or preparing for combat his entire adult life so our boy has seen alot of shit. There's probably not a description of the amount of PTSD he has.
15:55 is probably one of the most powerful cutscenes since johnsons death can not lie
Halo CE is a surprisingly depressing game. Whenever I stop to think about what's going on and how it is from the characters perspective it looks absolutely hopeless.
Fun fact, when having vibration turned on when rescuing griffon. Your controller vibrates to his heartbeat, getting slower and slower until he's gone...
The second I felt it… I knew… it made me tear up.
The escaped pod was avdoible if you think about it he could of sat down like everyone buy instead you had a 1000 lb flowing everywhere in that pod lol
Chief definitely killed every person in that escape pod in Halo CE because he was a thousand pound bouncy ball since he didn't take a fucking seat
If you fight with chief there's 50-50 chance you either live or die but at the small chance that he runs out of ammo... rip
“I couldn’t stop them but you can”
If there was one thing I kinda wish was infinite, and this is a personal thing that the game is just fine without, but you know how you have to save a bunch of marine squads with given names? Wouldn’t been awesome that those same marine squads, at least all the ones you saved, are there when your doing the last part of the game storming the Tower of Reckoning? Kinda like a “Avengers assemble” moment.
Yeah it kinda lacked set pieces
Yeah, The Road should have felt more epic. Halo always has at least one good massive battle of epic proportions, and I think based on how many fobs you had, that's could have determined how much marine backup you got. They should have had everything they had ready to stop you, instead it felt like half the banished weren't home.
@@Battlemaster952 yeah would have been cool for sure, also would have loved saving at least some of the Spartans and making them guard the fobs
Johnson's death hit me the hardest
You know the name John means "Graced by God" which is quite fitting since Chief has immense amounts of luck, but unfortunately luck is a pendulum that swings both ways. He wins his battles sure but he keeps loosing people close to him.
"Don't ever let her go". And Chief really holds him to that, down to whether it's the last thing he does even when Atriox is kicking his ass. Chief's loyalty makes me tear up sometimes... 💯
Halo CE was very much a sci-fi horror game.
Wish it remained that way.
Keys's death was straight out of the Alien movies
Not really watching them die, but another great example of his compassion for his fellow soldiers is when he's entering the banished ship at the start of Infinite. He pushes the debris out of the way forcefully, but is gentle with the marines floating dead in space.
When you realize that he was 4 minutes late from reaching Cortana but atroix defeated him and reached Cortana. Maybe he kept thinking that he could've saved her-
Oh no. 😭

Master Chief: Everyone important to me is dead!!
Fred, Kelly and Linda: Hey, we’re still...
Master Chief: Everyone important.
You know that Chief shed a tear or 2 for them.
Have you ever seen that crash safety video with the elephant in the back seat that smashes the driver on impact? Chief probably killed all those marines on impact when his 500lb ass tumbled around the pod and smashed them.
Dude they should have put spartan Thorne instead of griffin, it would have put closure on a legendary character.
I'd prefer if Thorne was still alive somewhere on Zeta Halo for us to find.
@@RaRmAn Ig he could have like a legendary ending for his character
They really do this man's social life dirty
cortana was more than a friend
I miss sergeant Johnson
12:08 well that aged poorly
Should have included Halo Legends and Fall of Reach.
Chief at this point is just a big green sad boi.
1:10 “We” will be fine, as in chief and Cortana
Ya know chief in his armor weighs 1000lbs. All those marines in the droppod in CE died because chief became a piece of debris bouncing around that pod
Except for the armor lock, magnetic locking, so on.
Totally not because he just over weighted the pod and the pilot panicked
ive always noticed how gentle he is with the fallen.
Story wise Sam death in fall of reach had impacted on Chief first set the tone of human covenant war.
I see why oni doesnt want him....
The way he tried to move to help the others as they disintegrated :(
The second to last scene can make grown men cry
It’s a static model and he’s struggling with it 🤣 4:16
Yeah hes lost a lot of people through out his life his parents at the beginning most of the Spartan candidates during the augmentation Sam during their first engagement with the covenant both keys, Johnson, most of his Spartan family Cortana and a lot of others, the man's been through hell
The cortina cutscene in the space station on halo4 really got me in my feels.
Anyone have the audio for after 14:55?
I believe infinite is the best iteration of chief. It nails the silent soldier he is along with his compassion and human side.
This is mandatory halo fan homework
There's one issue in this video were the sound was cut from confrontation between master chief and cortana due to such reasons.
This popped up…didn’t want to watch it…still did…you a monster that gave us closure.
Echo 419 is so underrated...She was really a Hero till the end even if we don't see her much in the campaign.

I want to mention that in no scene of any game featuring Spartan IV's and Chief interacting with eachother, in no scene does Chief act like the Spartan IV's are any less of a Spartan than he is, even though on multiple occasions Spartan IV's act like he's old news.
Master Chief doesn't often get the luxury of digging into an MRE, but you can bet your ass there's a hefty side of pain fries whenever he does
