I'm fine with an extraction shooter that (hopefully) fixes a lot of issues with extraction shooters, but to be honest I was kind of hoping that we would get something that embodies the classic Single-Player FPS experience.

IIRC the original Marathon games occurred over the decade ending 281X, so this is happening about 40 years after the events of that trilogy.

It does look like it lol. The original image of the marathon was like a hulking potato asteroid full of Sid Mead tubes and glowing trilobite fossil shapes with a Star Trek ship floating behind it. There is so very little similarity here because of the development of technology and maturity in design language.

So... We won't have a improved presentation for Marathon's intriguing narrative, but a total discarding of it on favor of another venturing into the multiplayer service style? Guess we will have to pray that Destiny's second saga takes the responsibility of making a story crazier than Marathon, since Marathon itself probably will step far away from having a nice narrative again.

Man, I get time moves on but I'm not a regular gamer but I had a soft spot for Destiny man. It was just so captivating with its story and I feel nothing will be like it. I'm sad to see it effectively end and lose its popularity
There's still some more content to come. They didn't say the game was going to end with Final Shape, and it's likely 4 seasons. I think a D3 could still happen someday too on next gen devices.
The next Destiny installment will probably be quite different, but Bungie has confirmed that The Final Shape is only the end of the Light and Dark saga, not the franchise as a whole.
I do wonder what that means for our Guardians though... *How* different will it be? How long do we have to wait after The Final Shape?
It's hard to believe we're already 9 years down the road, and I do feel a sense of "mourning" too. But all hope is not lost!

Man so they revive the old pre-Halo game series that literally was the originator of things later used in Halo (the Hunters and Rocket launchers, the marathon logo also appeared in numerous places including captain Keyes uniform and the pillar of autumn in the original version of Halo CE). Sad to see it’s only gonna be PvP online stuff
Agreed. I’m a Story first, Multiplayer second kind of guy. I’ve followed all the Bungie games from Halo CE, but if this game is only PvP, then I’m missing a major reason to pick it up.

@@tresaidh3y90 Yup, go in, get what you need done and get out. Don't have to go after players at all. I've played Tarkov and The Cycle, and like that premise. Players can even be helpful towards eachother if the cards line up.

I also wish that different things happened in the story. I feel now like they are pulling out the big guns all of the sudden just to make fans happy. I feel like Cayde should not have died in Forsaken, and I also feel like it would be much more fitting for Nezarec to have been revealed in Shadowkeep because he is the cause of those nightmares. I think for the Witch Queen Xivu Arath should have been involved in that expansion. Perhaps we ally with Savathun and team up to take her down or we ally with her to take down Rhulk in a huge plot twist
You know the lost disciple of the witness? It would be cool if that was Taox. Just to put her in the game. I think instead of Forsaken revolving around the reef, it should have been more revolving around the Drifter, the Nine, Gambit, and it would have been cool if Shin Malphur was revealed in the story
Could be cool… but the character doesn’t look like a character I would be interested in playing as.
Marathon bros stay winning (I only watched mandys vids on it)
Hopefully its a good game when it releases. Will be very disappointing if it dies off quickly or is a flop after they've spent a bunch of resources that could have been put toward destiny franchise. Here's hoping that once it releases the pvp team will finally work on destiny 2 pvp again

The OG Marathon was the game that got me into FPS competitive shooters back in like Grade 8 (god I suddenly feel old). I LOVE extraction shooters but if this game lacks a deathmatch mode I will be upset. As long as they can put that magic that made the original Marathon back into this game though... I will put some money aside for this one for sure.
surely at some point they'll put a mode in, even tarkov is going to have one
@maxwilliamsfit Hard to say, they more or less completely abandoned PvP entirely in Destiny. So, you never know. I hope you are right though.
@@Draidis From what I know a lot of the pvp devs in destiny moved to project matter which could be this game since its a pvp focused entry so I am pretty hopeful but yeah only time will tell

This was exciting sounding since I always thought a Marathon 4 or something would be cool but it’s rather disappointing it’s a no-singleplayer or even no-campaign game… wasted potential

I mean Bungie had the game series Myth which was set in a world inspired by Celtic myth, styled in medieval times and a RTS game. But sadly they sold the series long ago when they went bankrupt in the 90’s

It is only PvP game? Seeing status of Destiny 2 PvP and how Bungie doesn't care about cheating problem makes me worried.
IMHO Destiny PvP struggles because it's an afterthought. In Marathon they won't have to struggle with maintaining two metas or striking balance between PvE and PvP. All the focus will be on PvP, so it'll probably be much more consistent.

@@ChibiOnVR I do not like Warframe. I found it really clunky to play and I do not like its art style. However, Bungie's art has always appealed to me, and their gameplay has always been the top in the business for me. Its all preference, yes. But that goes with every game on the market. I don't really like the other shooters out there right now. Hopefully Bungie has a good take on the extraction genre.
@@saithvenomdrone I can understand that, but a lot of the movement and combat has been overhauled over the years and some frames are very fast paced.
However, I respect your stance and hope we both have something to enjoy from marathon and the final shape
bungie can barely keep d2 working outside adding super high quolity stuff to ever verse while letting the interns do the main game, so i have no faith in marathon atall if it uses the tiger engine that we know is literlay melting with stack overflow issues EVERYWHERE even thouhg the A team may be working on it with the inetrns on D2 I cant trust bungie atall

I don't think they can afford to cannibalize their own playerbase. Hard for me to get excited about playing a very similar game to destiny except losing all of my progression.
At best I hope it baits more people into destiny or just gives bungie more money to cycle back into destiny because this type of game isn't for me (based on what little we know so far)

I'm not saying people won't like it or shouldn't play it. Just I don't know who this is marketed towards. If bungie fans they have to be pulled away from destiny which I don't think it will. For non-bungie fans who play extraction shooters why switch to this one. Idrc what people do either way just saying it didn't catch my interest.

No, I highly doubt that? Finale Shape will conclude their Light and Darkness saga and probably first will have 4 seasons of it's own. Then there's more I could see them doing.

When Destiny ends I'm done. I'm not a fan of Marathon or its look. It will have to be surprisingly good for me to follow it. So far it looks boring.
