i just BEG bungie to release the modern remix of "rushing". That song was what got me down the rabbit hole in the first place.

I’m looking forward to giving this a go. I’m not a marathon veteran or anything.
But I am a long time destiny player. While I haven’t been in love with recent updates I still have crazy hours in that game!
The lore was also deep af if you dig into it

Whats stopping the dataminers from finding it out before players figure it out for others? Thats precisely whats happening in destiny 2

I mean they've kept this under wraps for a long time now alot of people assume they started work on marathon since 2018 since that's when d2s pvp started falling off and devs were leaving for other projects .

Definitely understand the sentiment, ive heard that alot the last couple days. I'm trying to have hope that this is a chance to do something different. If they wanted to do more destiny then they could just make destiny 3, ya know?

It’s just that the feeling that came with exploring a new game is gone. Nothing about destiny will ever be surprising again. I remember when every drop and every area in destiny was a surprise to me. Can’t wait to be surprised by Marathon.

@@zap2747 yeah the games been out for like 10 years now ive been playing since day one and d2 lost its magic for me . but i have faith in bungies marathon since it will be their first new game in years . and alot of d2 players are mad that d2 is getting neglected for marathon and im mad too but at this point i think destiny 2s time is coming to an end its been out for a while now and the games only being updated to keep it on life support for marathon .

ARGs are nothing new to Bungie, and look, maybe is the jaded ex-Destiny player in me talking, but this kind of 'community driven' narrative events have become boring to me. Usually it ends up being the same group of players and streamers doing all the heavy lifting and solving most of the secrets, the rest of the community either just sits by until they solve it, don't even know something was happening or have very minimal input like sending an screenshot or piece of code for a larger puzzle; not to mention datamines (probably won't be much of a problem in Marathon since i imagine Bungie has had to learn a thing or two after Destiny 2 constant leaks due to datamines on the game files and API). I honestly wish this game just had a proper campaign/PvE.
I guess we'll see, i'm much more interested to see how this will tie back to the original Marathon trilogy, where does this fit in the timeline, any mention of past and future events or characters... if not then i'll settle with just seeing how the Pfor would look like with current graphics, and maybe if we are lucky, one of the Battleroids who were at the colony...

As a fellow longtime destiny player, the best I can hope for is that it will be less Corridors of Time (primarily what you described, minimal input from the average person who sits around while it's solved) and more Niobe Labs or worlds first Last Wish, where there's the prestige of a 'worlds first' but it ends up unlocking something real and tangible for other people to do- I think very specifically of niobe labs because you could still do that whole puzzle top to bottom after the first team cleared it.

Stupid idea to make yet another online multiplayer extraction shooter. Why not a proper campaign that works offline, with pvp *and* and a pve? We had this in 2011.

Adapt to what exactly? The sudden change of how games are released are neither natural nor consumer friendly. I will be honestly surprised if this game doesn't flop in the same year it releases.
Beside that, yeah I'll just play the original Marathon games. I'll also stick with the rule that any game with a battlepass is an instant no. Fuck battlepasses.

@@MeatyYogurt my point is that this ARG thing in my view is just another marketing point and nothing more. ARGs have been there since forever for many different games. The way that this "player-driven narrative" is described is something like a combo of 1) Phantom program from Battlefield 4 (players solved complex puzzles and uncovered the Phantom stuff) and 2) ...I guess the current seasonal narrative from Destiny 2? And it's partially similar to how back in 2019 Bungie advertised their current seasonal model for Destiny 2 as a constantly evolving world, it's just now mixed with an ARG as a marketing point. Also, how is it player-defined if players are just solving puzzles designed by developers?
It's not revolutionary. There's nothing new, only the well-forgotten old. And it's almost cheap, coming from Bungie.
Please stop falling for all the marketing that has always been carried out for high-budget games since forever. That's how Fallout 76, No Man's Sky and countless other different flops have turned out to be what they are. And especially don't trust Bungie - did you forget Destiny 1? (Have you heard of the development issues they had with that game? Just look up the Kotaku article on it.) Marketing always makes a lot of noise, with the intention to get everyone overhyped and massively pre-order the game so that an unreleased game brought profits to the publisher (and their investors) as early as possible - and the end product doesn't even have to be properly finished if the money is gained well before that point in time. It's the current reality of AAA and why I don't trust AAA game dev companies anymore.
I'll wait until after release when everyone had enough time to play and evaluate the game. Then maybe I'll think about buying it. And that should be common sense at this point

@@UshankaMasterARGs have existed for a long time, Bungie has done ARGs for a decade now with the Alphi Lupi sector for D1 launch. An ARG is definitely a marketing tactic but it also is a way to connect with the community and expand the games universe.
