Alessandro Michele's era was the most refreshing and exciting ever. Alessandro, for the first few years, was ruling the fashion industry. The way the 3 directors were treated is appalling. No one should feel safe working for Gucci.
Kering expects exponential growth from Gucci and nothing else matters to them. Alessandro's Gucci had such a strong impact, other designers started following his direction. I remember laughing seeing a Roberto Cavalli menswear collection that was so gucci-fied, but that was just one of many instances.
Tom, Frida and Alessandro all played their part to move the brand forward. I personally love Alessandro's aesthetic, but I feel that this trio should not be pitted against each other, since they each played a part to create the Supernova Gucci we are seeing now.
Excellent content. Tom Ford revolutionized Gucci, therefore is the benchmark to surpass. Difficult if not impossible to do. I digress, this reportage is sublime❤
They never really gave Alessandra a fair chance. In all honestly what she was doing was exactly right for Gucci; they had a good formula set up but press criticized her so heavily for essentially following in the house codes made ultra relevant by Ford, they barely gave her two seasons to explore a new direction. Even so she was already changing fords aesthetic to something much 'cooler' and if she stayed longer there could have been greatness. There was such potential for this type of woman; the lost rock chic era of Gucci that I always feel Frida interpreted horribly.
I always think it’s good to give a new designer a few seasons to find their footing before judging entirely. The alternative is a world full of non-designers like Pharrell who just redo clothes from other designers they like.
Yes, they seem to have built that reputation. LVHM is very focused on maintaining talent in the company (except for John Galliano) but Kering has a cut throat reputation, probably since they are not leading the industry.
Which era of Gucci is your favorite?
Alessandro Michele’s
TOM FORD.
Tom Ford, definitely
It looks like the new creative director of Gucci and for Tom Ford agree with you@@afickinger
@@THEMODELGENE That is so perfect! I didn´t know that, thanks for the info!!

Alessandro era was horrible.
Gen Z rainbow satanic clown.
Fantastic video! It’s so important for people to learn about the business side of luxury fashion and brand evolution

Absolutely! And now with sabato de sarno, a new era, a new Gucci

Thank you Roderick, I’ll have to update this with Sabato de Sarno’s direction. It feels like they are trying to recapture Tom Ford’s magic.
Frida era is the best one imo
Her menswear collections were often my favorite each season.

If its not by Tom Ford, is it even Gucci?
I love watching those old shows
I feel like Gucci is such a backstabbing brand to it creative directors.
