It was 1994 when Tom Ford rose to prominence as the Creative Director of Gucci. This was a time when pop culture was overridden by the Rachel haircut and Calvin Klein aesthetic. Just one year after Tom Ford joined Gucci, sales spiked, with the brand achieving revenues of $500 million. So, how did Tom Ford's Gucci white dress and silk shirt transform not just the almost defunct and bankrupt House of Gucci but also the industry as a whole?

It should be also mentioned that Gucci white dresses were heavily inspired by 70's Halston. Tom being an American designer he combined Gucci luxurious accessories with Halston's simple and flowing cuts to build Gucci where it is today. He also persuaded Pinault to buy not only YSL, but Balenciaga as well. Otherwise, nice video 💕

My favorite memory as a teenager in Los Angeles was going to the Gucci boutique with my mom the day after the shows in Milan to get a complimentary copy of the collections on DVD. I still have every single one. The P/E ‘98 campaign with Chris Walters is still my favorite to this day, second only to the A/H ‘00 campaign shot beneath the L.A. freeways.

Remember all the silk in the 90’s silk shirts and silk suits on woman,he made it so chic and sexy. Todays Gucci or under Alessandro Michele’s Gucci was more grandma chic which I never got. But OMG 90’s Gucci under Tom Ford will go down has gone down in fashion history as one of the best periods.

It really sucks that Estée Lauder acquired Tom Ford like it does with so many brands, L'oreal does the same. They're monopolizing the industry and they have too much power, it is not right.

I'm in the minority, but Tom Ford's aesthetic never held my interest. Although, some of his eyewear line was okay. As far as his men's clothing lines, boring AF.
Yup, every item I bought back in high school and college & beyond that was Tom Ford designed for Gucci, from shoes to leather jackets to wool or cashmere jackets/sweaters, men's jewelry, sunglasses, etc..I sold almost all of them (still have a few items left) online for way beyond what I paid..they all went up in value by a lot...

@@superluxesource yes just as an example from the first time I set my eyes on the Tom Ford for Gucci pieces back in 1995 when my father got me a few pieces there for my birthday when I was turning 15 begin one of my hobbies and passion for it and several decades later I sold as an example black leather Tom Ford jacket that we got on sale for $1,200 I sold it for 9,000 black leather loafers we got on sale for half price for $400 back in 1996 sold more than 20 years later $2,000 and very heavy solid silver Tom Ford designed men's bracelet with special engraving I got on sale for around $415 I sold a few years ago for over $2,000 also so that's just some examples out of many
