    I really really appreciate your hard work, you make amazing videos , your content on procrastination is not something anyone is doing on the internet, I have talked to so many therapists about procrastination but only your videos have helped me change my procrastination problem or let's say get it under control at a huge degree. I am more than thankful to you, thank you for changing my life. You are really changing lives by your content and your content is gold.

    I really like to watch your videos, it's the way you speak. I am constantly anxious and depressed, when I watch your videos it's like being comforted by a older brother

    I take with me 1) the ideas of a tribe (the environment), 2) that we identify strongly with the fs, + your suggestions 1) not to reject it (as I have done I think), 2) to honor it. Very helpful Thanks.

    Your deeply compassionate style really resonated with me and now I've taken responsibility for my life.
    I think the epidemic of disenfranchised masculinity that plagues the developed world today needs this kind of communication for people to be able to choose themselves before grasping the aggression that is typically needed to relate to more motivation-focused videos about empowerment.
    This channel is my solid foundation.

    The false self is a defence mechanism to shield the true self from hurt.

    I had to read Winnicott's primary text on The False Self and was struggling a lot (in my defense, it is horribly written), and this video helped a lot! 🙂

    Will be good to survey personalities in literature, e.g., of Dostoevsky, to explain more the authentic v. false self

    David can you please make a video about procrastination effect on friendships?
    For example - Having work to do, then procrastinating by meeting friends however the underlying guilt actually ruins the interaction and the friendship across time.
    This has happened to me. Growing ever more dissatisfied with social interactions.

    What about people with quiet or high-functioning BPD? Do they also have an authentic self if they lack a sense of identity? (speaking for myself). A video about this topic would be really appreciated! Thank you!

    Very enlightening. I found this very useful and interesting to look at the false self in that way. Do you think it's ok to keep going with the false self that has been created, if it is working?

    • @drdavidmaloneypsychotherapy
      @drdavidmaloneypsychotherapy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We all typically do Dean, to one degree or another. The False Self itself isn't really the problem. As long as there's an awareness that it's not really 'who I am', we avoid inner conflict.

    I absolutely loved this definition. But can you explain it by reading the definition of authentic self from Bhagvat Gita and how that authentic self gains its individual authenticity from its past deeds. It is infact an interesting read which will broaden your insights to new possibilities in tackling psychology.

    It's hard for me to tell where my false self ends. Like yeah it's overly timid and non-confrontational and defers to others' judgement easily. But is it also tense and shut off, or is it my autism? Is my autism neonatal or a trauma response? So many questions

    Is the false self the inner child?

    • @drdavidmaloneypsychotherapy
      @drdavidmaloneypsychotherapy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't quite say so. The inner child is the original and enduring need for connection (in my book). The false self develops as a result of this need not being met.

    • @JamesLewis-kv8lw

      @@drdavidmaloneypsychotherapy David is the inner child the part that kind of yearns and desires love, connection, and intimacy and also the part that feels alone and sad?

    That is just the false self saying that, hilarious
    th-cam.com/video/pg7hLSVq7To/w-d-xo.html
    This video is dynamite. Please make more videos about the false self.
    Giving positive energy to the false self makes it grow and giving it negative energy makes it shrink (self-mortification). Sam Vaknin advocates the later if false self is too big, but it sounds a bit dangerous. Could you discuss the idea of making the false self grow if it is too small or making it shrink if it is too big?
