    Ryan's point about the donkey is exactly why I love going out and nature, and almost need to at least twice a week. Every non-human being in this world just exists. It doesn't really think, it just goes on instinct. If humans were to do that, our lives would be so much simpler.

    I find it funny how he says he won’t bring up meditation because nobody’s going to do it but then the first two things he suggests is to “get up early” and “get off your phone” which 90% of people are unwilling to do and seems way harder to implement than to just do nothing for 10 minutes a day. Otherwise though, great speech and advice!

    How do you rationalize a development of compassion and present awareness knowing the consciousness of sentient beings with hunting and even fishing? I ask this for my understanding of the question. Does the water separate us from the awareness of the consciousness of the fish? How do we ignore or become numb to the awareness of he prey? There must be something in mind that allows this but realizing we are not this mind can we be the body that performs the thought that takes a life as though we are not that life?

    Love his books. Unfortunately, Ryan’s ability to talk about stillness without seemingly being able to remain still himself, and present, instead - a bundle of nerves and pacing around.. loses his message. Eckhart Tolle - that’s the man you want to be listening to talking about stillness. His google talk is phenomenal.

    Ryan does good work but he's not so still and stoic anytime the name "Trump" is mentioned. Ryan needs help in this matter. I've seen him on podcasts absolutely change within seconds and start cursing and losing it...all of his stoic philosophy goes right out of the window. Ryan, just breathe and realize that half of America disagrees with you. We all want the best for America, but just disagree on the path. This year or in 4 years, the administration will change and life goes on. I didn't vote for President Obama but I didn't go into a cursing fit whenever his name was mentioned. I actually prayed for the man and hoped that he would be a good leader.

    • @Knowledge_Nuggies
      @Knowledge_Nuggies 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ever considered that the Stoic philosophy is not made for people who are naturally calm and controlled, but rather to be a means to the end of controlling your own impulsiveness, temperament etc.? Some historians (e. g. Pierre Vespirini) write about Aurelius that he actually had a hot temper and stoicism was just a counterweight to it. Think about that.
