Spray Painting a 3D Printed TESLA ROADSTER

  • I spray-painted this 1/10th scale 3d printed Tesla Roadster 2 with two coats of white primer. Then, I applied three coats of metallic red and immediately sprayed the clear coat.
    The windows were painted with gloss black and a coat of clear coat as well to get more shine.
    The bottom of the car and some details were painted by hand with matte black.
    Everything was put together with super glue. Although I thought it was gonna be a quick project, it took me months to finish :D
    Materials (with affiliate links):
    - White primer: amzn.to/3noGrAG
    - Metallic red: Dupli-Color Auto Color code 50-0170
    - Red paint for calipers: amzn.to/35scedH
    - Clear coat: 2-Layer Clear Varnish Automotive Spray Paint
    - Super Glue: amzn.to/35xoKZE
    - Filament Prusament PLA amzn.to/3AfFYs8

    Critique:
    This test's main purpose was to review the constraints of printing a 3d model that was not meant to be printed. Although this is an extremely high-quality and beautiful model, it needs extra work to be 3d printable. For example, all the windows and lights were printed 1% to 5% smaller than the originally intended size because otherwise don't fit. The parts need a gutter between them, and these ones are exact to the millimeter which is not accurate on physical objects. The same with the wheels and brakes: I drilled the holes to be 1mm wider in order to fit everything together.

    Just finish the serie! Really awesome work!! I'm looking to get a 3d printer and I was debating Original Prusa i3 MK3S+ or MINI + and saw you use a Mini. How you like it? Thanks. ...btw, Really enjoy the format of your video production. I'm tempting to say, guessing from your name you speak another language? ...it's so, consider upload versing with the video titles on that language too, because I'll see this channel growing quickly 😉

    • @LeandroLinares
      @LeandroLinares  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heyy, thanks a lot for the nice words! The Mini is amazing: the printing quality, low noise, auto bed leveling, etc. Sometimes I wish I have that extra space of the Prusa i3, but most of the times I don't need it. I think it's personal preference, though. I needed something with small footprint and relatively cheap. I'd say whatever you choose you won't regret it.

      Yes, sure! I wrote a blog post with a list of materials. I detailed the metallic red color code, but it doesn't need to be precisely the same. I’ve used paint for real cars (spray putty, white base, metallic red, and 2-layers varnish). Send pics when you paint it! lean8086.com/articles/post-processing-3d-prints/
