Unfortunately, homeless individuals are ruining it for themselves. If they kept their areas clean and tidy no one would complain. The amount of trash they hord and bring back to their tents is insane. Long Beach has a problem with this.

They collect the most needless and unnecessary things like tires, parts of bikes, seats for cars, things that won't ever work and they just pile and pile and pile it up. I drive by some spots like this here in sacramento and it's literally EVERY homeless person does it. Tax payers should not have to pay this much to clean up after them and house and feed them too! If they are that incapable of living like productive members of society then maybe we need to bring back mental institutions. I think Newsome is on to something with his CARES court plan. Evaluate those homeless people and if they are found unable to function in society and live like animals they need to be somewhere getting help and treatment off the streets. I'll stand behind that any day. Drugs and mental health issues don't belong on the streets. All that money they spend cleaning up their garbage alone could fund mental health hospitals for them. They need that kind of help not free housing.

Yeah there are people that want this lifestyle but the politicians overall are the cause of all this.
Further implementation of their policies is going to lead to further descruction.

I think most people are fair and willing to help BUT the homeless have to have a plan to better their situation rather than sitting around all day and complain.

As a former Long-Haul Trucker I have seen this all over North America for 25 years.....only got worse with legalized drug use in some areas of Canada and USA.
People gravitate towards the West Coast with its mild winters and nuturing/ forgiving culture towards the homeless who are addicted to drugs/alcohol, there bodies so full of tatoos ,earings, body modifications who in their right mind would hire them for a job. They dont want to conform to normal society so this excuss of a life is as best as it gets.
Talked to some Vets of the GulfWars and AfganWars and they returned to an America they did not recognize....they got into Trucking and never looked back.
Maybe mandatory military training and further labour skills training at a certain age (18) might be the answer these politicians need to clear up this problem for the future.
Other Country s have done this sucessfully for decades.

This video comes from a professional news organization yet the title lacks proper english grammar. Better options: (1) Oakland begins the shutdown of Wood Street homeless encampment OR (2) Oakland begins to shut down the Wood Street homeless encampment. Perhaps if we get back to basics and return to teaching reading, writing, grammar, and arithmatic in our schools instead of focusing on politically correct social behavior, we might begin to change things. However, that is only the first step. Education alone will not solve the homeless crisis.
We need to provide proper shelter and food to those in need, mental health care for the infirm, drug treatment for the addicted, education and training for the able bodied and jobs to get them back to work. We need strong government leaders who are willing to help the homeless, not just move them from one location to another. Cleaning up the physical mess is important, but it is only the beginning.

Yes, having a safe and secure place to focus on achieving goals enabled me to work towards them. I don't like being rude to the homeless, but some of them have been cruel to me too. These are people who lack autonomy, and rely on autocratic dictators to take care of them and tell them what to do or else they partake in spiteful behaviors. Truth be told, not all humans have the mental capacity to learn how to take care of themselves, whilst others will rise to the personal challenge of overcoming adversities for the sake of living a good life, and not merely settle for surviving day after day and night after night. All that wasted talent! These days even having a hobby based on an interest can assist people with generating income via the internet, whilst learning how to earn their own keep. Not all humans like settlements and migrate around the world. Money is made of minerals and plants the same as medicine has been. Poverty is a mentality. The poor will always be among us because of natural catastrophic events, malicious leaders behaving like Hitler, Stalin, and Putin, and humans who can't learn how to take the initiative or care to tend to themselves.

All the jails are full of mentally ill people. If a person can not physically or mentally take care of their own basic needs then they should be placed safely in care facility but then comes the problem with staffing it. People who can care for mentally ill folks do not get paid enough to work at these facilities. It’s a huge circle of a mess just like this is.

Wish those poor people received an actual solution rather than being swept around the city, one place to another. California is one of the juggernaut states that is pulling American economy up. How little governmental and municipal care it receives in return is beyond my understanding. Oakland might be a big festering wound; but California is very badly wounded in so many places due to the quality of social services (if received any at all). I am sure the city has so many brilliant and capable minds in their payroll, I am shouting out to them: Please focus your resources more on quality of social services; especially nutrition and sheltering. Please come up with a working solution for the homelessness in California. In return, there will be a lot of visible improvements in the society, local culture and community, crime rate, sanitary conditions and sustainable access to nutrition and healthcare; through education and employment of the once unemployed masses, after their quality of life is brought up to standard on individual level.
