    What is scary is how many are at the risk of homelessness as rent continues to increase.

      Cost of Living is so high that you are working taking care of elderly and still can't see your way with the bills. There is no heat in the cold and air conditioner in summer. Demands for simple food, electricity, and paying other bills. Your rent/ mortgage not to mention a car for transportation taking Uber/Lyft to even get to work, among other things that it are necessities. Not to add medical costs. It's mentally challenging when you don't know where to turn It is very scary.

      I did have a suggestion I've made several times over about a way to cap greed which would be to limit business owners from making more than double their lowest paid employee. Obviously excess funds would either go back to the company or the staff.
      The option for housing I've proposed many times (not in office but I should be!) Is to remove property taxes altogether and cap every home to $1/sq ft max for businesses and single family homes, etc.
      This massive reset would mean all Americans would receive rent relief, property owners wouldn't be incentivized to raise rent because they would not be paying property taxes, and if we outlawed companies from buying single family homes the market would flood with affordable housing.

      If your life partner made as many mistakes as your government you'd leave them. You wouldn't ask them for more help. The only way the suffering gets addressed is when those that aren't suffering begin to suffer. Unfortunately the society will change when the people have nothing to lose. Right now everyone keeps playing by the rules go to work, paying a mortgage or rent, paying an auto loan and so forth. They continue to rationalize the suffering. As long as you have yours it doesn't matter who else doesn't have. Maybe if 50 percent of society has no job and no home then there will be a change. Until then just keep going to work and paying your bills. You're not homeless so don't worry about it.

    The homeless count should be done in the fall, when homelessness is at its highest. That way, they'll be able to get a better picture of the issue! Homelessness will never be fixed or solved. The reason is that there's no money in it! You can't find anybody if you're sitting in your car! Go out and find these folks! Make sure they're properly counted and represented! Leave no one behind! Nobody should be thrown in jail just because they're homeless!

    • @beckyhobson3283
      @beckyhobson3283 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly!!! In the video you see some of the counters walking around finding people but then that one said that, "It's hard to find people when you're just driving by." I realize that in some of the areas, it might not be too safe to get out and talk to people but that's the only way to have an accurate count. You can't see a guy sitting at a bus stop in dirty clothese and a backpack and assume he's homeless. Plus, in most places fall weather is SO MUCH better.

    Small or tiny house eco-housing. Everyone needs their own washroom, kitchen, and warm sleeping area. We can do it. Car-culture needs to be phased out. With flooding we can see that trams, be it mag-lev covered solar etc, need to be elevated off the ground in many areas. Greenways to make the urban areas livable please. The building restrictions have to be eased. People should be allowed to construct dwellings according to their needs. Not be forced to comply with onerous building codes and dictatorial inspection requirements. Years ago, I built a log cabin on leased land. The building inspector basically told me it’s illegal, and I moved out.

    The biggest hurdle to tackling homelessness is taxpayers often don't want to contribute to any solution, so projects and funding don't happen. It's a NIMBY-like attitude where if it's not affecting "me" then I don't care. But at the same time a lot of people complain about the problem and expect governments to wave a magic wand to fix it.

    you would have to dismantle HIC/Homeless Industrial Complex. which employs thousands of people, not including the volunteers. jobs that essentially pays for their rent or mortgage, etc. HIC also involves addiction, harm reduction and prevention services, that also employs thousands of people. so, riddin of homeless population would reduce the need for a large number of these employees. maybe even around 75% in total would lose their jobs. also, directly housing many people would cause the shift in price of housing, which isnt in the interests of the landlords. DONT YOU DARE TELLING ME THAT GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS AND PRIVATE LANDOWNERS DOESNT(DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY) BENEFIT FROM THE GROWING HOMELESS POPULATION. I DONT BELIEVE THAT FOR A SECOND. IN FACT THEY COULD HAVE HOUSED MANY, MANY PEOPLE ALREADY. BUT THEY WONT, SIMPLY BECAUSE ITS GOOD FOR THE BUSINESS. THIS IS THE WORLD WE LIVE IN. The same problem is caused by the same factors in most western capitalist countries, like USA, UK, Ireland and other EU states. Thats just the way it is. They could have fixed it long time ago. they just dont want to. Facts! rant over. eeeeend.

    It's easy to blame homelessness on the homeless, but that's extremely short sighted.
    Almost every homeless person can tell you about loosing their job, about low wages that no long cover even the cheapest apartments.
    Medical costs have forced many people out of their housing. Even people who owned homes can loose them because of big medical bills because someone in the family had a serious illness.
    Many homeless people have jobs they go to every day, but can't make enough to cover a damage deposit, current and last month's rent.
    If they have an eviction on their records, if employers find they're homeless, it's just that much harder for people to get hired or find housing.
    Homelessness is going to keep growing until people receive a living wage, to redesign our healthcare system so hardworking people, even those with health insurance, can't be forced into bankruptcy if someone becomes seriously ill, and getting a handle on soaring rental rates that even middle class workers are struggling to pay.
    Unmitigated greed is driving it all.
