Just say it - Benchmade went nuts with their pricing.
Like Apple groupies Benchies love it, worth + 500% 🤡
Literally paying for a name, they are low usage "grail" items now 😅
You are correct Sir.
💯
Took you a while to realize that?
The Buck 112 Slim or Slim Select would work well on the first question. Thanks good video
Thanks David! I went with the Adamas! I appreciate your time in answering my question!
good choice dude! hope you like it
I really hope you enjoy yours. Refused to buy one when they were just under 200. With the current pricing I know that I will never own one. Unless I get lucky. When I lived in an apartment, someone gave me a Benchmade North Fork.
For folders? I would definitely look at Cold Steels line. Its the only brand that seems to stand up to a survivalists type of demands. If people are not watching the youtube channel of JoeX, then you should. He torture tests all sorts of knives until they break. Cold Steel regularly goes the longest yard when tested. You would be surprised how quick many of the name brands known for being tanks, break when put to extreme use.
I've just realized that I watch more from knifecenter than the "news" 😅
This channel is a oasis of calm, knowledge, kindness and joy in the desert of internet where these things are so rare nowadays.
Thank you a lot, David and all the team of Knifecenter.
For the flu season you don't need needlenose pliers as much as a handsome daily dose of D2.
Heh -DCA
I keep a couple of Buck 110 s around they always perform and travel in most areas with no issues.
Only problem is that 110'a are now $$$. Certainly a reliable classic though. Have a great day.
Howdy knife center, thank you for the tedious and not on purpose rabbit holing we get from here!!!! The gut hook is great for making a feather stick for starting a fire. Not beginner, mechanics and technique. Strength and control. Stay Sharp haaar har.
I think Buck 285 Bantam is the perfect answer to the first question. In fact, you can get TWO knives for under $100!
Yes almost any Buck would work.
Mine was a fixed blade. My answer to everything is a fixed blade. I suck
I'm a Buck fan boy...and yes, I agree...the Bantam is great
Instead of a tanto for the snowboard, looks like the CRKT Razel would be great.
The cheapest Kershaw Link is what I keep in my truck as a backup/emergency knife. Great size and feel for an under $40 USA made knife. It is assisted and not the best steal but very very hard to beat for the price, especially to just sit in a truck and hopefully never be used.
Also some good picks:
1. Ontario RAT Model 1 - A sturdy folding knife with a good reputation for its build quality and affordability.
2. Cold Steel SR1 Lite - Known for its toughness and durability.
3. Spyderco Tenacious - A popular choice due to its sharpness and durability.
4. CRKT M21 - Designed by the renowned knife designer Kit Carson, this knife is both functional and durable.
5. Gerber Paraframe - A lightweight, sturdy option with a minimalistic design.
M21 is awesome
Answer to question 1 is RAT1 in D2 and the Taiwanese are good people to support as well. Plus you will nearly get three for your $100.
Thanks again DCA, for another great video! Glad you brought up the Gerber 06 Fast as an option. I have an older version, with the button lock, that's seen a whole Lotta pocket time. It's "fast" and very useful. Reasonably easy to sharpen and holds an edge pretty good for the steel type. Get you a cheap set of needle files from Harbor Freight, for the serrated part, and you'll be good to go!
Buck 347 vantage has been in my pocket since it came out and has built more shelters and fires and skinned more game than my esee and tops fixed blades combined and doubled. It's super slept on! I personally am very used to 420HC (with the Bos heat treat) and know how to sharpen so it hasn't been an issue ever, but if you want a "better" steel then they come in S3VN with cerakote (what I edc now)
1st - the best disease fighter is the Steel Will Plague Doctor!! Moving on, 440C is the parent of many other steels. For example 154CM as DCA indicates (and 154CM led to CPM154). OMHO is that industry competition & marketing have driven much of the change. 440C became seen as 'common' & 'generic'. As soon as more 'fancy' sounding steels came along makers started to up the ante (not a bad thing). Nothing wrong with properly heat treated 440C. Very stainless and easy to maintain. Good choice for hunting/fishing. Sharp blades all.
I would like suggestions for a first pocket knife for a child.
Criteria:
1. Around 3” blade
2. Drop point
3. Stainless Steel (low maintenance, but can lean how to sharpen)
4. No assisted opening
5. Price below $50 but preferably around $30. I’m assuming they will lose it.
6. Needs a locking mechanism
I don’t care about clip options. I usually remove clips.
I was looking at the Ontario RAT 2, Ka-bar Dozier, and the Byrd meadowlark. I’m assuming there may be other options I don’t know about.
Considered an Opinel. Variety of sizes available with generic/simple ergonomics to cater for different hand sizes and allow for solid grip. Very gross motor skill 2-handed action to open/lock/unlock/close (good for young children who generally don't yet have fine motor skills - if the blade too fiddly/hard to close may fumble blade and cut themselves). Utility design caters for most tasks. Easy to operate. Steels (either carbon or stainless) easy to sharpen. Finally - cheap! Have a great day.
In Indiana you can carry only thing you cannot carry is a ballistic knife and a shurkien. Other than that you can carry anything, blade length and style does not matter, can be automatic, assisted opening etc. Can be carried open carried or concealed. We have very common sense knife laws in Indiana.
The Benchmade Autoimmunity would have been a better answer for The Most Serious Question of The Day.
THANK YOU
Love my s30v griptilian
Thank you so very much. I went with the Cold steel. Hunter. There are two safeties on this knife 😁
Buck 110 all the way around and you can't go wrong. Even if it does way 3 pounds
Noisy Gerber ,nice variety 😊
Cold steel Rajah 3 is a good survival folder and you can almost get 2 for $100 if made in Taiwan is ok.
Kershaw Blur has been my EDC for quite a while - love it!
Same. My spring broke long ago, took it out and use it manually now. It seems to dull really quickly though. But sharpens up easily.
You can add the Hogue Doug Ritter RSK or his successor EXLRSK to the list, about the same price tag. The last one has magnacut blade, good steel, up to date, very rust resistant and other qualities. And they feel more hardwork knives than Griptilian to me (i own both, so i can compare).
I bought the benchmade version when it first came out it's still going strong, I don't have the Hogue version but I've heard it's a better knife.
@@thorin693 I love both of them, and both are good knives for the purpose, with amazing action and blade centering without any blade play. But the G10 feels stronger than the FRN, and is more grippy. One more thing, my (1year old) Griptilian had an aweful bevel out of the box, i had to resharpen it. I hope Benchmade QC is better now, because i had the same issue on 3 of 5 knives from them last year.
Now i see that the EXLRSK is a bit more expensive than the previous RSK, with the steel improvement. Maybe a deal breaker for those who have to deal with a budget.
@jvf4608
I recently picked up the deka in Magnacut it's my first hogue knife other than the scales feeling a little wimpy like the benchmade it's a great knife, going to upgrade to aluminum scales soon.
@@thorin693 Yeah, i got the same Deka with the flimsy scales too. Like the bugout (less flimsy in the second run than the Deka), they are not survival strong knives.
I should have picked up the knifecenter exclusive Deka in G10 and Magnacut. Managing to get micarta handles, as i live in Europe, can't get scales from many makers/sellers that are in USA and not imported by my local sellers, as OG scales. I bet the micarta scales won't be worse than the plastic ones. And later, maybe i will be able to get some titanium scales like i've done on my bugout 😃
First off love the videos! Looking to get more into slipjoints, I'd like to get a quality knife for each of my three kids for when they get I'd enough. Preferably under $150 but something that is classy and high quality. Thanks!
I've always found Case knives a good option for this. They have so many styles & handle materials/colours that you can get something individual to each child rather than all the same. Swiss Army Knives are also worth consideration with more emphasis on multi-tool features but probably aren't 'classy'. Only issue is that Case & SAK don't have the best steels. If you're just after a single blade with decent steel Boker (not Magnum range!) have a reasonable range esp. if you want a wood handle. Good luck. Buying children their first blades is a special moment so enjoy! Have a great day.
Great content as always!!! DCA you Da' MAN!!!!!!!!!!
The AD-10 is a beast and I agree that the drop point is the blade version is what it was made to have. The Benchmade Adamas is great, but pretty expensive if you have any car payments and/or ever want to have a drink with your pals, unless you've got some rank to help pay for it.
Go forth with thee tanto and may he be forever blessed wise words from dca
Thomas! You should have told DCA about the Benchmade Immunity at the end! But im glad you at least added it as a caption
I love how diplomatically DCA talks about the BM Griptillian.
After 10 years Benchmade is no longer competitive is the non sugar coated version.
I bought the thumbnail buck knife for a buddy of mine as a gift, he says he doesnt know what he'll use it for but he loves it.
Hi DC! I really look forward to your videos, so thanks for continuing to put out great stuff! I am wondering about something: why are there so many options for deploying a blade? Thumb stud, thumb hole, flipper, front flipper and sometimes all of the above! Personally, I’m partial to thumb stud or thumb hole, but why so many options? Just because? Or is there a function that I’m missing? Of course, I didn’t include more traditional knives with nail nicks, those I understand. Thanks!
Greetings to the most illustrious knife gurus! Thanks for all the outstanding knife content - I started my knife collection as a pandemic hobby and your videos provided a great deal of insight to help guide my journey. In recent months I've seen a few rolling knife sharpening systems online. They look quick and easy and claim excellent result... maybe too easy? I was wondering if you've tried any of these out, and if so would you recommend them? Or, would you suggest we run away fast and far?
The Böker Applegate Fairbairn is a great 440C Knife
Was surprised to see the adamas and not the bailout as an alternate to the 06 fast.
USA knives in close price point and similar size:
Spyderco Manix 2 (BD1N)
Hogue Deka (when on sale)
Buck Spitfire
Owned a Gerber gator for over 20 years. Butchered a lot of medium sized game with it. Darn comfortable
The Bear Ops Rancor IV is a great option for the first guy.
So DCA.... the KC exclusive Olive Drab Alox Victorinox Huntsman is still happening?! YES!
Eickhorn makes a really good survival knife as well
FAQ time *YES*
DCA, this is most serious. Since the government has finally admitted the aliens are real, what folder should I carry during the inevitable Alien Apocalypse?
TRC Apocalyse or the Becker Space-Bar Knife?? Choices, choices...... Have a great day.
I'm no lawyer either but if your traveling thru Illinois got to remember about Chicago. Only a 2.5 inch blade allowed.
Hey DCA, I am looking to add some camp kitchen knives to the chuck box. What would you recommend? Sheaths are mandatory, some stainlessness preferred, ability to do double duty in other chores appreciated but these are primarily kitchen knives on the go. Thanks!
I would’ve picked the drop point Gerber Gator in 154 cm over the clip point version .
New to the channel and just binged these KniFAQs over a few weeks. Great job! I feel infinitely smarter. Thanks!
Related to beat the icon Kershaw Leek video, I love the look and feel of the Leek, but assisted opening doesn't agree with me. I've been considering the
ArtisanCutlery Small Archaeo with lock key but have never seen anyone hold the knife with the lock in place and connected to the lanyard. Does the lanyard get in the way?
Also, most serious question, years ago I cut myself at least 5 times opening or closing my first Leek under perfectly normal use, before finally giving up and gifting to a nephew who loves it. Considering I have 5 other neices and nephews, how many more Leeks should I try, give up on, and gift to happy relatives? Bonus, how many cuts would I end up with?
Gerber gator dam good knife
DCA and crew, I love your videos! I am looking for a fish fillet knife. I feel informed on pocket knife and outdoor knife steels, but don’t know anything about steel types that make for a good fillet knife. This will be used mostly while camping, but occasionally indoors. What suggestions do you have?
Gut hook/seatbelt cutter.
Hey, DCA & Thomas Behind The Camera! Love the videos - keep up the good work! I'm looking for a knife I can carry to my office job that has that "dress up or down" quality to it. Did my homework, and the only restriction I have is that the blade must be "less than 2 1/2 inches in length." What've you got for me at or under $150?
Taking the show Alone into account… - folding survival knife is a Leatherman
Love the channel, great job on every video. A co-worker loves my (red version) Lionsteel karambit with its pocket deployer. It's a little too niche for him, gawdy and expensive. What's the next best choice at a lower price and smaller, while still having a pocket deployer? We cut a lot of straps and cardboard, and I'm slowly convincing everyone my magnacut with custom center-of-the-blade serrations is unbeatable! Thanks!
Take a look at the incisor
Hello Thomas and David, Love your work. Could use your help narrowing the search for my new pruning device. I'm currently using a Sogfari kukri but the edge is prone to chipping. What are some better options? My only caveat, need the most miles per dollar. Thanx.
I love Case knives, and I use straight razors to shave with. I was so stoked to find a Case straight razor on eBay, and when I got it, it was such a smooth shave! I know Boker makes straight razors, and I also have one of them. But I never knew about the case straight razors. Can you tell me why they stopped making them, and when they might have gotten out of it?
I would buy 1 Kershaw to carry and 2 Gerber gators for truck and pack from the choices on this list.
The best folding survival knife is the cold steel pocket bushman.
You can remove the speedsafe option on the Kershaws.
I recently purchased a benchmade knife online and discovered, according to benchmade, I had purchased from a counterfeit site! Very good counterfeit site, so buyers beware. Obviously, I will not be adding BM knives to my collection anymore.
I carry the AD15.
Being Swiss 'USA made' is not an important feature.. so my preference is the Victorinox Outrider. Costs a lot less than 100$ (~55$ ) too.
The Outrider comes with more tools than just a blade, e.g. a saw and scissors. It isn't one hand opening, but the blade does lock.
TBH, considering how badly many US companies treat their employees and how little protecten they have, I prefer knives made in Europe/EU.
The Outrider is hands down my favorite large SAK! -DCA
Hello DCA and Thomas. I have more than a few knives, (quite a bit more), both fixed and folding, all sizes. Do you have any recommendations for storage. Display and travel are not a high priority, accessibility is. A small case that holds 4 or 5 folding knives for travel would be nice also. I enjoy the channel. Thank you.
Ken
Hi DCA, my brother is in the Coast Guard and I’d like to get him a knife to use at work, I’m thinking good at cutting rope and good corrosion resistance. He’s a nonrate seaman for now (which essentially is like an entry level sailor) but in the near future he will specialize, either as an aircraft mechanic or an intelligence specialist. I’d like to spend around $100 but could afford to go higher if necessary
Hello DCA! Lightning round question for you: If you could only go to one knife convention, which one would it be?
Buck 112 was first thing that that I thought of actually the 110 light weight was my first thought but the blade length is a little too long
You can have any knives you want in Illinois now autos to.
Nice video anyway. I would like to add two things. 1) That CRKT M16 DB costs in EU 200+ USD so it must be seriously overpriced here. 2) I miss CS SR1 Lite here - cheap, tough, 2 versions of the blade design. Have a great time, I like your New knives videos:-) FM
The M16-04DB is $130 here. I'm seriously considering it. I have an M16-03S that I like for the most part except for the nylon washers and the seriously thin liner lock that doesn't inspire much confidence.
@@Regolith86 For the money you said I would have the M16 DB a year ago....:-( Have a great time:-) FM
Kershaw Blur, all day everyday.
Hey DCA, What knife do you carry on the night of December 24th when you deliver presents?
Question for a most serious recommandation: I'm obliged to spend a certain time in jail soon and I need to choose a knife to edc there. No preference for folder, fixed or multitool but keep it manual and under 3" just to be safe if there are any legal restrictions. Pocket carry, no belt possible...
Use will be edc, opening a lot of letters, carving messages into concrete walls, maybe self-defense but no outdoor. 😢
Should have a timeless design and a long warranty (minimum 11 years) and either a steel that holds an edge this long or that is easy enough to sharpen with a nailfile or a broken bathroom tile. Thanks in advance! 😉
Would it be possible to have the pivot in the filters? Ie: ball bearings, phosphor bronze washers, teflon washers, etc.
Hey DCA and Thomas . . . I don't have a tanto and I need to fill that gap. Could you please recommend a US-made tanto with a PM steel blade? Price under $200 if you can. Great series, many thanks!
3" in Illinois.
Hi DCA, I live in an area that has harsh winters, and I mean really harsh, snowfalls, rainfalls and overall very cold weather. I am into folders but I will consider fixed blade as an edc any suggestions for winter knife, my budget is 180-220usd, up to 4 inches blade, obviously high corrosion resistance and mainly hand material that won't get cold, no button locks no auto/otf knifes, Thanks in advance! Thank You for your work!
Question: I keep a swiss army folder in my desk drawer. I use it mainly for cutting fuit. I store it in open position. There's no need to close it. Time for a fancy fix blade?
🔥👍
The Buck Bantam could work? The Cold Steel Double Safe Hunter or Bush Ranger Lite or Slock Master could be good choices?
I picked up a Heckler &Koch folding knife from a pawn shop (i have found premium knives dirt cheap in these shops!). Great action, stainless frame lock, not too heavy, drop point blade, no rust yet....in 440C. Its become my go-to ! Recently, i discovered it was made in collaboration with Benchmade , and other variants exist
Hey guys. I bought me a Kizer Shark Tooth. Are there any other cool shaped knives in the same theme of cool that youd recommend for sheer style? No price limits. Love you guys.
Hi guys,
I would be interested on your thoughts about why crkt doesn't release more knives with the deadbolt lock.
I'm still waiting on a model that i like.
Cheers from france
Kershaw Kuro is a cheaper, light tanto alternative to the Cold Steel Verdict.
How about the buck vantage at 13c26 steel...that would've a good knife for hard use made in America....I own that knife and is very solid knife with decent amount of edge while being small sized
I've got a large and a small in 13C26, but sadly they no longer make the knife in that steel. The Vantage lineup has really dwindled lately. -DCA
Any makers production or custom still use BG42, ATS-34 or M2? Haven’t seen those for awhile I know they were great steels at one time. Since we still have the classic D2, 440C, 154CM and 420 steels I often wonder why the others never stuck around.
Hey DCA and T. My question is if SHTF hit's what is the best knife that will last to do what ever I need it to do for how ever long I need it to? Budget I will guess under $200 just for sanity sake. Thanks for the videos. I enjoy your content!
The "best" knife that will last forever in a SHTF scenario is.... a BOX... full of different knives‼️ designed for different purposes.
They're all worthless if you don't have the skills to use them well.
Hey DCA & Thomas, the world needs to know: would a hawkbill blade be considered a Japanese Reverse Tanto? Thanks fellas!
I want to buy my nephew his first Victorinox knife what would be you pick ,
One of the biggest things I can decide on is alox or just the red classic.
Thanks so much!!!
I'm always on the hunt for "small but not too small" knives. My pocket carry rotation already consists of a Boker Plus DW 2 a Civivi Baby Banter and a Bestech Tulip. Can you show us some new and/or old but obscure small folders in that 1.5-2.5" blade range? I live in Texas so anything short of brass knuckles is fair game.
lowkey the tiny kershaw launch w the dagger blade is cute as hell
I second this question - I like a knife under 2.5" for EDC. I love the Lil' Native for the fidget factor - but really think it is ugly. Would love a crossbar lock - but I really like some belly on my blade so the Full Immunity is out...
Hey DCA, the German TH-cam format "7 Vs Wild" has this year's contestants survive out of a wide-mouth 1 liter Nalgene bottle for two weeks (+ clothing and med-kit). Which folding survival knife that fits into the bottle would you pick? I was thinking Cold Steel 4 Max Scout, but does that even fit?
You literally described the Mercator
Knife question! Lake knife, I’m an avid waterskier/boater. I keep about 6-7 knives in my boat (mora, SORD, rat1, sog MT, assorted tool box knives, ect), I also carry a spy27 para3 on me in the water all day. Would pref something discreet fixed blade w/ discreet strong lock sheath. Still looking. (FL lake life)
What would be your lake life knife?
Show fixed blade survival knifes like the blackbird sk5.
Bucks 420 HC with the BOS heat treat ain’t no slouch
How about a RMJ Stabby guy alternative?
Snowboard tanto- what about the crkt razel? Is that still around 🤔
My travel knife is a Cold Steel Verdict. It has a 3 inch blade and the triad lock. It looks boring but it will last me years and years.
What about cold steel engage atlas lock knife carbon fiber gray xhp limited (3.5" satin)?
Hello, my first knife was a Benchmade 530 and I really loved how thin and light it was and the fidget factor of the axis lock. Is there anything under $100 that would fulfil those two qualities? Oh and I'm left handed so something ambidextrous would be ideal.
Not from Benchmade.
