While I am a knife enthusiast, I also have a family, mortgage, etc, etc....you get the picture. And while I would enjoy buying some of the lovely and oh so pricey knives, it's good to know there are budget worthy kinves that I can afford...So thanks for this update. Now I can leave Christmas hints with my three kids and oh so lovely wife. Thanks guys!
There are so many. just need to decide blade steel and size. many nice ones in the neck knife size. 100s in the 5" and 6" size. all under $50 with aus8, aus10, sk5 and D2. don't need to play with the cheaper blade steels.
You go DCA! I go to sleep most nights listening to your knife reviews. Your voice is common soothing and your insights are second to none. Keep em coming brother
Check the "Ontario Rat 1" folder knife. This is the knife that started my obsession lol. I think you will fall in love with it man. Absolutely legendary and around 30 to 40 dollars.
There's a D2 version of the Rat 1 for around $50. For a very inexpensive but very useful knife try the Buck 110 light weight. If you have a Rural King near by the are $25 on line around $30. It can take a beating.
My Civivi Praxis JUST arrived today. $33 dollars, coated D2 drop point blade. Light weight flipper. Probably a 3 finger grip for Anderson, but perfect thin light EDC for me and I can get a 4 finger grip with small hands. A little bit front heavy with the blade to handle ratio but perfect pocket carry size and a very useful blade choil to bare down for more leverage
The background music is distracting but I really enjoy the knowledge you give us in these videos. I can see that you want to provide the information we need to find a knife that fits our use and budget and not just push higher priced knives. Thank you.
I recently bought a bugout 535 for 70€ on a shop that was selling all their stock due to them retiring and closing it, probably my best buy for the price
I've picked up a few knives under $50 this year. Steel Will Daitengu, Sencut Crowley and a QSP Raven. All three are great. But the Steel Will is fantastic. It's simple, slender and doesn't use bearings.
Love my SRM 9202 coated D2 crossbar lock, great action, excellent Spidey flick action with the exaggerated blade hole which also gives an excellent jimped thumb ramp.
After I cleaned the pivot and put thick trumpet oil as lubricant on the PB washers, it has the smoothest glass-on-glass action in my entire collection (even more than the Rat 1).
Got one of those srm 9201’s waiting for me to pick up tomorrow. Hope the action is as good as y’all claim. Too often, they aren’t. It looks great for the price if they don’t drop the ball on QC.
@@Knights-Of-Ni I don't remember how good the action was on my 9202 (basically the 9201 with a thumb ramp and larger thumb hole) out of the box, but after cleaning and then lubricating the pivot with a thicker trumpet oil, it is the smoothest glass-on-glass-like action (runs on PB washers) I've ever experienced.
The divergent is a great knife for the money.I bought one awhile back on sale from Shrade for 13 dollars and I've beat the hell out of it and it's still going strong.
Hey David, can you do an episode on EDC rugged folding knives? I’m thinking something durable for the hobby garden, cutting cardboard, moderate size line, potential life saving like cutting seat belts, last resort personal protection, but fine enough to cut those bothersome labels on your wife’s blouse or dig out a splinter. I love the convenience of an automatic or spring assisted folder. Thanks, love your videos and slowly adding to my collection
I noticed the expensive knives on many websites are not selling due to the economy, also on ebay you can get some good deals on Great Eastern cutlery knives because the resellers are not selling them at inflated prices no one is overpaying for those anymore due to the lousy economy. People have cut way back on spending including me I am done buying expensive knives costing $100.00 plus and not buying even the low priced knives. I have enough already in my collection to last me a lifetime LT Wright , GEC, Lionsteel , and some expensive hand forged custom knives I do not need anymore. It will be nice to save money now and only buy what I really need and not be in debt. I think the online and retail store sales will not be good this Christmas for retailers on expensive items and just overall sales.
I've got a QSP Parrot and liked it so much, I bought a Penquin (also QSP) too. My assessment of both: Pretty much the cat's pajamas AND only twenty-something and thirty-something dollars, respectively. shipped! *coming from someone that's owned Benchmade, Buck, Case, etc.
not knocking any of the knives on the list, all have excellent value for money. However, for $10 more you could get into SOG's Terminus XR with the XR lock, D2 with Cryo treated blades $59.95. Never let me down, just a really decent, rugged and handy knife for day to day use.
I live in a state allowing sub-4” blades and have grown accustomed to larger handles. However, I frequently travel to (and through) states where 3” is the limit. What models would you recommend with a 3” or less blade and a well-proportioned larger handle? The Leek (while lovely) often feels too small in the hand while my CJRB Crag is an excellent fit without using the finger choil. I also own the Cara Cara 2, Penguin, Ria, and Super Tinker. None are perfect options. I’d trade comfort for steel quality as it’s not a commonly needed knife. I lean toward sheepsfoot, wharncliffe, and clip point blades, but don’t care for tantos. Old fashioned slip joints are also an option. Sub-$60 would be amazing. Thanks!
@@arrowheadguys7637 I can’t be certain as I’ve never held it in hand. I’m trying to locate a larger handle with max 3” blade where the handle doesn’t feel outsized to the blade. The BB seems a bit small based on what I’ve seen, but I may be mistaken.
@@trm2103 It is, but it has the forward finger choil for a little more secure grip. I don't have many sub 3" knives so its hard to make recs. Might look at something like the Spyderco UK penknife or Delica. Both have 3" blades and look to be a little longer in the handle
My wife just remarked that you have a voice which belongs on talk radio. Have you ever considered doing a podcast? Your voice really would help the miles pass well on a road trip.
I was not overly wowed with my Schrade Divergent when I first got it because the lock bar ends are pointed and were a bit painful to use at first. Fine after a short break in period though. The action is really good and smooth though, better than the Kershaw Heist I bought recently. A lot better. The Divergent is a very solid knife for $27.00.
1 am 71, British (with silly knife laws). I have always loved knives and have, over many years, built quite a collection of unusual ones. My grandfather always carried a two blade slipknife. However it was called a 'turnbuckle', with small rings that, as you turned them, turned / twisted the blade out - and back in. I have never been able to find one, let alone buy one. Do they still make and / or sell these?
I love my SRM 9201 and my medium drop point Honey Badger. Both are butter smooth and drop shut. I did have to disassemble and clean out some grit, but the results are terrific. I now wonder why I’ve spent more on a knife. The $20 SRM is as good or better than knives ten times as expensive!
I love my knives, especially Kershaw, CIVIVI & CRKT 2.75" to 3" pocket Blades. Just added the very nice & extremely Sharp out of the box Kershaw Appa 2.75" for $14 Black Friday Sale. A great assisted opening pocket knife 🤟
I just ordered the Brad Zinker Trapper from you guys the lock back model in VG 10 and wood scale for 54 bucks to my door. Also you three knife nerds need to look into DB Cooper being a patent holder at Crucible metals. It's about to come out in the public. That would be cool.
Thank you . Knife Centr. I am from Australia and I want to buy one pocket knife CRKT, Perfect little pocket knife $39.00 . Can you tell me where I can get it from. ???
I don't consider well made inexpensive knives to be a niche , its the main market. Knives that cost more than $300 are a niche; most people would never spend that much on a pocket knife or camping knife.
Love your showcase videos, but could you put the prices in the description with the timestamps and links? Even when the video is just the weekly new knife showcase, I'd be a lot more likely to buy one (or more accurately, a bunch) if I could see the prices laid out together.
As a retailer, this would just create problems unfortunately. Prices change over time, and we can't go back and update every old video description as that occurs. We've seen firsthand that some folks will demand we honor those prices then get mad at us and leave bad reviews when we cant. -DCA
I know these are newer knives, but I think the dozier is my favorite budget folder. It checks all the boxes- 3 inch blade, neutral handle, good grip and jimping, lightweight, slim, strong lock up, attractive blade shape. Basic but not boring. I have the srm on the way, might try out the schrade.
I really WANTED to like the KA-BAR Becker BK40D2. I returned the first one for side to side blade play. The replacement is a hair better, but there’s no way to “fix” this. The scales are a nice shape (though slippery) but both frame and scales are simply weak and flex easily. Four position clip is a big plus, but that clip needs a little work. That’s a good piece of D2 (though I might take a little of the belly out because I use a piercing point), but the rest of the knife simply doesn’t do it justice. Looking for good EDC to replace the SERE2000 I’ve carried for most of two decades. So far, the black RAT-1 I found on Am***n for $24 is the best bang for buck. Bump up that AUS-8 $15-20 worth to premium steel, and you have something. Sad about the BK40D2 but I need a hard use knife.
I liked a previous comment about budget fixed blades but I wanted to ask you and the community if there is something out there for what I'm looking for. I like the size of the Ferrum Forge blades but I want something in 154cm or similar. I want to carry it IWB and as an EDC. I was waiting on the SOG Altair Fx but that is not the price SOG said they would sell them for and honestly the prices of these things are getting a bit ridiculous. 154 has been out for over 20 years (I've been carrying it on duty for as long). If anyone can help I would appreciate it. A flat ground, drop point with a 4ish" handle and 3ish" blade is ideal. I want to cut rope, utility and slice a few apples and maybe a steak at a camp fire or restaurant.
I was pretty disappointed by the honey badger. The handle is so flimsy that the lock bar tension is enough to throw off blade centering, and when you adjust it to be centered, the handle is banana shaped cus of the liner pushing it out of whack. The ergos are decent and the blade grind is nice, but the blade stock is crazy thick for having such a flimsy handle. Sort of a mis-match. Flimsy handle can handle most tasks, but the blade thickness is way overkill for those tasks.
I just got the Kizer Escort with red richlite scales. Man I love this richlite material it feels and looks awesome. The action is excellent, I hope they come out with more color options and that more companies start using this richlite stuff.
Just got my CJRB Pyrite and this knife is AMAZING for the price! Perfect button lock action, nice ergonomics and choke up position, and solid steel for only $50 is a fantastic deal
Quality control on some of the budgets is better then on some of my more expensive blades, i honestly dont think i can justify spending more then 100$ on a knife now when all these gems exist
I have a question, I really want an OTF Automatic Knife for self defense that doesn't stop if there's something in front of it. Do you know any such knife that's available for purchase?
You are talking about a heavily spring loaded knife like the German Paratroopers knife (no longer made). You can’t play with these, they take some reloading !
I’m honestly very impressed by the SRM as well. Bought one to try after your last video recommendation. Really enjoying it. It’s a LOT of knife for the money for sure. I got CIVIVI boxes filling my drawer but haven’t tried any Sencut models yet. I’ll get there eventually.
You should also do a video on the best high-end or semi-custom production knives. I love budget knives, but sometimes it's good to not be such a cheap bastard.
Picked up the Cold Steel Verdict from the KnifeCenter team a couple weeks ago. Very impressed with that knife. Did a review on it on the Wingman115 TH-cam channel, if anyone is interested in seeing that.
Ahhh $50 I don't get why they didn't include their AUS10 in that knife. If they had it would of been an instant buy, but I'm a little disappointed by the choice of a cheap steel in it that should only be put in sub $30 knives. It's not like cold steel doesn't have knives I'm the $50-60 range with AUS10 already, so it's a bit confusing to me.
Kabar for the win in this video . That Schrade is pretty damn neat , Id be shocked if DCA ever included a Buck Bantam in these type videos . I dont see how they can be beat for 22 bucks . Maybe I missed it
What would be your recommendation? I love the style of the subjugator, also the conspirator and the american lawman by cold steal. I'm looking for a solid edc that could also serve as a personal defense in a pinch (hiking in the wild forests)
I'm hoping someone can help me remember the name of a knife I saw about 2to3 years ago on a short video here on YT it was blue and oh yeah folding, but it had a kind of hidden button that look like a hinge pin for the blade that released the blade when it was closed but it wasn't spring asst it would just swing freely until you flipped your wrist to fully open and lock open and push the button again to release and swing freely again, I've been searching YT Google and anything else I can but can't find it, if anyone has a clue what the hell I'm talking about I would appreciate if you could help me out , thanks 🤯
Ya so ima be honest, I'm way more excited about all the button locks coming out on the budget side rather than the cross bar/ "axis" style locks. And thats for one simple reason...omega springs. So damn sick of omega springs. And what's worse is the cross bar lock has been done without them and with a standard coil spring before and yet the constantly breaking omegas are still the standard. Button locks are just way better. They're just as ambidextrous, just as strong (arguably stronger) and are still fidget friendly without that pesky omega spring issue.
@@chefboiarby304 in principle ya but in practice its a nightmare. I've tried it with guitar strings and while it works its really iffy on tension. That and bending the string into the right shape is really finicky.
FED UP with mostly D2 knives .... I dont like that steel at all. it can rust , its often too high HRC / more than 60 up to 62 , so its VERY difficult to sharpen , and is proned to break easily. OK it stays sharp longer on a budget , but its the only + you get , and you loose a lot on all others characteristics. Really bad choice for so many budget knives today.... 9CR18 , 440C , 14C28N , AUS8 are MUCH better choices . ( and even 12C27 or 420HC , or 8CR13 are better options for me ) ; )
While I am a knife enthusiast, I also have a family, mortgage, etc, etc....you get the picture. So u got my knife! May u die a thousand deaths! 🤣 Jk good for u
No QSP?
Great Pretty Knives 👍🔥💯
I’m honestly very impressed by the SRM as well. Bought one to try after your last video recommendation. Really enjoying it. It’s a LOT of knife for the money for sure. I got CIVIVI boxes filling my drawer but haven’t tried any Sencut models yet. I’ll get there eventually.
No CJRB RIA @$30, QSP Pequun @$30?
Neither of those are "new".
SRM 9201 giving me giant mouse jutland vibes
You should also do a video on the best high-end or semi-custom production knives. I love budget knives, but sometimes it's good to not be such a cheap bastard.
do a best new budget knives made in the usa
Picked up the Cold Steel Verdict from the KnifeCenter team a couple weeks ago. Very impressed with that knife. Did a review on it on the Wingman115 TH-cam channel, if anyone is interested in seeing that.
Also the only knife on this list not made in the PRC.
Uh, isn’t Sencut the budget brand of Kizer??
Rat 1&2 and Civivi praxis mini all should be on this list.
Title is best NEW… rat is old as dirt! 🤷🏻♂️👀
Then why are there old knives in the line up?
Kabar for the win in this video . That Schrade is pretty damn neat , Id be shocked if DCA ever included a Buck Bantam in these type videos . I dont see how they can be beat for 22 bucks . Maybe I missed it
Love the Bantam and have featured it several times, but this vid was focused on stuff that was new this year -DCA
See , I did miss something :)
Keep up the good work
What would be your recommendation?
How do u buy a knife from knife center
Click the links in the description or go to www.knifecenter.com
A gun enthusiast rather than a knife enthusiast, but why not the Ganzo G7211 or S&W SwatMB? Both less than $40.
Do you want a rock island or a colt? Same kinda deal.
Inexpensive, you say. Keep money in my pocket you say….then trot out 10 models and I want all of em!!!😜
From what I've heard, you can make your own omega springs out of piano wire.
@@chefboiarby304 in principle ya but in practice its a nightmare. I've tried it with guitar strings and while it works its really iffy on tension. That and bending the string into the right shape is really finicky.
You should do this video with fixed blades.
Larger Than Average Hands Yo, thanks for the video!
( and even 12C27 or 420HC , or 8CR13 are better options for me ) ; )
Disappointed no fixed options but that beefy little guy is cool if available in other colors or a bit larger...
I am very sorry he is 5foot 4 inches and white is his only color .
@@craigm2484 I was referring to the beyond knife...
Other colors yes, but this is the only size at this time -DCA
DCA only comes in one color, and he is already "slightly larger than average".
