The ZT 0350 is a great knife for duty, and ZT has a solid warranty and great customer service. I have been carrying and using the 350 for the past 5 years or so, and my two cents are: 1) if the gentleman has been carrying it for a while, he probably doesn’t want to “replace it permanently, but may rather just have something else to rotate in, especially while he sends his 350 away for servicing at he factory. 2) The only knives that I would “replace” my 0350 with on that table is the Full size or mini Adamas, and possibly the PM2, but it’s not as durable as the 0350.

The American Lawman is absolutely a one handed closing knife. It almost has some finesse about it but plenty robust for hard use. I can’t seem to get it out of my pocket. Not that the America Lawman is difficult to carry AT ALL, but the only reason I ever swap it out is if I ever want something slightly easier to carry (I.e a bugout or baby banter). But it’s almost redundant to do so.

I carried a partially serrated Kershaw Blur for my first three years and beat it up on the street. Great pick. I ended up buying my first Benchmade (840) which also held up phenomenally for years. I picked up the Mini Adamas when it came out and it is my favorite of all 3. Great LE knife, I recommend it to everyone.

I would neither want nor carry an assisted-opening knife as a law enforcement officer for a duty knife ... want nothing to "fail" when one needs the knife. The most-obvious choice was missing from the list ... the Cold Steel Recon 1 folder (tanto, spear, clip in that order) knife at $130ish, a 4" blade length, S35VN or Magnacut stainless/coated blade, and one of the strongest/reliable locks in the industry. Thanks DCA.

When sharpening my knives, I use mostly diamond sharpening tools. Since I have a lot of PM steels (MagnaCut, Maxamet, S30V, S35VN, etc.) regular sharpening stones ware out too fast. With the diamond sharpening tools, the DLC doesn’t have effect on the sharpening process. There will be a bit of black left on the diamond surface, but that is easily wiped off.

I love my Cold Steel American Lawman and it one of my favorite knives in my 450+ knife collection. If I was in the military again, I'd carry my Cold Steel American Lawman or Recon1 with the Triad locking system. I would not carry an assisted knife. I'd like something very tough and durable and I'd be totally sure that the lock wouldn't fail and I could beat the heck out of it in all conditions.

As LEO for almost 20 years, I have carried a few different folders on duty. The first was a MOD CQD MARK I Auto. When Benchmade came out with the Triage, I switched to that. Then the Auto Triage, which I still carry daily for duty. I carry the original Triage off duty as an EDC knife. I like the ability these knives afford someone in my line of work. The glass breakers on the knives have come in handy to access vehicles. The cutting hooks are indispensable for cutting seatbelts or for removing clothing from injured individuals. I also prefer the partially serrated blades for cutting difficult materials like vehicle airbags that have deployed.
Great video DCA. Stay safe out there.

As an officer and someone who is really into knifes I carry multiple folders and a fixed blade on duty. I think it is very important to be able to get to your knife from whatever position you are in. So I carry either a Benchmade Freak or a PM 2 in my front right pocket. In my left I carry a Kershaw launch I think it’s the 11. On my duty vest I carry a KA BAR BK 16. That way no matter the position I’m in I can get to at least one of my knives. I use at least one of my knives everyday while on duty and to me being able to get to them when you need them is critical. Keep up the great work at knife center

The 5.11 fixed blade still looks fairly unused whereas the Microtech looks like it’s been beat to hell. I swear by Microtech because of the beating he put on that poor knife and it always worked.

Craig, speaking of assisted LEO knives, one name comes quickly to mind for large, beastly folders: COLD STEEL. Almost no one touches their huge knives for size and intimidation: 4-Max, SR-1, Spartan, Espada. However, they've got a new assisted Opening folder that might be of tremendous interest: The Swift III. It has a huge 4 inch assisted opening blade that is made from CPM-M4 steel, a very seriously tough, strong steel. According to their website, Knifecenter is currently sold out of them, but I'm sure they'll be back in stock soon. If you can't wait, there are a few other dealers like DLT who do have them on the shelves.

Only precaution I can think of when sharpening DLC (or other coated blades) is that it REALLY stands out if you hit the plunge grind and make a smile. It only matters if you care about the pristine aesthetics of a coated blade though. Just be careful around the heel of the blade when sharpening if you care about that.
Of course you can always be ghetto with it and color that back in with Sharpie if you did make a smile. It's less obvious than with other coatings as DLC usually keeps a shiny appearance rather than matte 😂

Here’s a question: What is the point of a finger choil? I understand that it’s used as a control point to get a better grip on the blade, but isn’t that what the handle is for? I can kinda see the value on a folder where the blade and handle have to be roughly the same dimensions, so a designer can cheat by making part of the blade function as extra handle, but on a fixed blade it just seems redundant. (Not trying to be contentious here, I genuinely want to know.)

Cops should be allowed to carry brass knuckles- they used to carry them in the early 1900's.

Hey Knifecenter I have a question/challenge for you: recommend 5-6 (relatively affordable) knives that give a good sample of different features to help someone figure out what they like.
As a noob, it took me several knives to figure out my preferences (lock type, handle material, blade shape/size, steel, etc.). Unfortunately there aren't many places to handle knives in person, and buying several to try out gets expensive.
For reference, I started with the liner lock Ontario Rat 1, then a lock back Ka-Bar Dozier hunter in D2, button lock Kizer Assassin in 154cm w/ micarta scales, aluminum Boker Kwaiken OTF, crossbar SOG-TAC XR, and the Spyderco Para 3 LW in Spy27.
I finally settled on the Spyderco Lil Temperance 3 LW in K390 and no longer feel the itch to buy more knives to try out.

Any knife that uses any form of springs is prone failure, whether it's a omega spring or assisted or OTF.

Hello DCA. I am searching for a knife blade Wharncliffe-shape, lenght 6cm (2,3in) or less, one hand opening, non locking with a pocketclip, something in a stile of Spyderco microjimbo, preferable with a finger choil. It can also be a slip Joint if there is no other Option. I travel a lot in Europe and I can take a blade smaller than 6cm with me on the plane, but in Germany knives are allowed either with a lock or with one-handed opening. Thank you and best regards from Slovenia, where I have been following you since 2021 and never since missed KnifeCenter FAQ.

Hey there, DCA, Thomas, Seth, et al. Love what you guys do with the channel. KniFAQ is MY favorite time of the week. I have a question about Damascus. I own a Civivi Conspirator (Damascus), a Boker 2023 Annual Damast Slipjoint (Damasteel) and a Spyderco Delica (KC Exclusive VG10 Core Damascus). These are very different knives, with very different blade steels. However, they share one trait. The texture of the Damascus is very tactile…the layers can easily be felt. Why is that? On other layered products, like the Mokuti clip on my QSP Penguin, the texture is much smoother. Thanks!

Hey DCA, I was recently stabbed in the side of my hand by a friend while working on a project (accidentally of course). No permanent damage, and i am healing fine. (The knife he was using was the Bestechman mini Dundee.) This incident got me thinking and i have two questions. First is what edc knife (for my friend) would you recommend for farm work that has no stabby tip? Secondly it is my impression that the heat treatment of a blade could be ruined if heated to cauterize a wound. Is this true? Thankfully this did not happen. Love the videos, keep up the good work. Thx in advance.

I think a good replacement for the 350 could be the Lionsteel Kur, or the Viper Odino. For a little more money the We Thug XL.

Hello dca and crew! question for y’all; on a $100 budget can you make a survival/bushcraft kit that’s has everything you would need? In my mind I’m thinking a 4-5 inch scandi ground fixed blade, folding saw, camp axe, first aid kit, survival blanket, and a fero rod. Is it even possible to get everything I’d want on a budget?

@@iamgroot4080i think the police is great for a lightweight alternative to the military, and the back lock is still STUPID strong. plus they don’t make a k390 military haha

Hey DCA, and Thomas. I have been looking for a knife to carry while mountain biking. My requirements are a 3”-3.5” blade, fully stainless(or almost), one hand operable, a good clip, reliable and lightweight. My price range is about $100-$200. Thanks

Dave, I'd really like to see your reviews on several budget knives, namely the Lothar Lich King (silver), the Sanrenmu 1005 GC (sometimes GL or GQ ?) and
the Holtzman's Gorilla Survival Folding Knife series. What are some of your opinions on these? Many thanks!

I’m not law enforcement but a lot of my family is. My dad likes large knives, so he’s got an Adamas, a new O6 Auto, had an AD-10 but no longer likes it, an AFO from Benchmade, a Para 2 that is more of a light duty knife (I don’t think Spyderco’s paramilitary and military line are super awesome as tactical knives), a ZT that I can’t think of right now, and some fixed blades.

Hello DCA and team, I have a tough one for you. I recently moved to the beach and I am having issues with the knives I typically carry. Every few days I have to take apart my knives to clean them because no matter what I do, fine pieces of sand find their way into the inner workings of the knife and make my fidgeting horribly unsatisfying. I need your help finding a very corrosion-resistant, sand-proof/easy-to-clean, left-hand-friendly, knife. I am a huge fan of classy and fidgety folders but I am open to anything you feel fits my needs. No particular budget but nothing too crazy. Thank you and keep up the good work.
