I binged Hell’s Paradise in a single day And holy fucking shit, I had never liked a ninja assassin character so much until I read Gabimaru’s story. His development isn’t the usual “emotionless to emotional” trope but rather it’s taking any form of his confusion into empathy. It’s so fucking beautiful.
For a while Gintoki has been my number one MC from anime/manga. He started as a pretty careless and lazy samurai who plays pachinko and drinks a lot, but slower and slower his past is revealed to the viewers. We then fully understand why Gintoki is the way he is, and how he mirrors his comrades. He doesn't want to be the War Hero he once was, but rather a normal human and live his life in the way he wants.
He’s actually one of the most relatable protagonists ever and isn’t the classic shonen protagonist even though he still has strong ideals. Man I wish gintama was still going on every characters written so well
Shinichi still stands as the protagonist the an anime has made me care the most about. He is painfully average, but not in a “look how painfully average this guy is” sort of way. This makes him relatable and an underdog without being just as “hopeless loser” trope. He has potential but is forced to confront an otherworldly threat to reach that potential. He is also a reasonably logical thinker without pushing the limits of a “logistical mastermind”. He feels like an ordinary person in an extraordinary situation. Now where have we heard that description before?

Oz, Sugimoto, and Phos??? Niceeeeeee. But really, I love Oz. Him, Gilbert, Elliot, Xerxes, and Alice too. But Oz. Love Oz. PH is the only manga I've read where I've actually cried for the characters. The cast is so lovely ❤
My favourite Protagonist is edward elric from FMA btw i would recommend you to watch FMA 2003 (the first adaptation of FMA)because edward is way more nuanced there FMA 2003 is far closer to a seinen where as brotherhood is more shounen FMA is an extremely dark story
Ryo Narushima from Shamo is one of those characters that you just can't help but root for even though he represents the worst aspects of a human being. If you haven't read Shamo I highly recommend it.

@@abylaiashken2611 it's a "visual novel" also called as sound novel Its incredible, one of the best Stories written ever!! Dr Tenma is so underrated in his own story. He's so well written and has an interesting fleshed out philosophy that he sticks to, and its amazing to see how he grows throughout the duration of the show.
How about the real black swordsman, Kirito? He's going through a lot of things that make his character compelling and his struggle make his journey's very beautiful to protect asuna and gain her memory's back because of the trauma. Oh wait wrong story,my B.
I feel you would love kiichi (manga is also called kiichi), he covers the theme of trauma and understanding death at a young age, growing up, and showing what would happen if someone challenges the laws of the world to do what they believe is right, truly a goat
Kenzo Tenma from Monster will always remained my favourite character of all time bcus he is flawed but he had his strengths which are opposite of Johan and thats why the pair of them makes the perfect protagonist - antagonist duo
only few really talk about allen walker, and the way you talk about his character is really great, also goes the same way to the other characters. It really convinces me too to check and read the one I haven't read yet
My top protagonists are lelouch, keneki, ichigo, luffy, thorfinn, asta, shinichi, Edward Elric and those the one I can think of on top of my head but there’s probably more I like
Here to plug in one of my favorite characters in Anime; Hachiman Hikigaya, the protagonist from Oregairu. What makes Hachiman stands out from the rest is how his worldwide cynicism towards the world is so deeply integrated through a simple but sadly, incredibly relatable childhood of bullying and neglect. It's what makes him overall critical of group dynamics and the falsification of friendship. However, where Hachiman's disillusionist rationality may be apparently made up, his heart is still unconsciously selfless, leading to an equally fascinating and dangerous character who will throw his own social reputation, relationships, and mental health to the wind in order to help the very dynamics and the people he claims to condemn.
100% agree on Kaneki. Recently finished Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul re(manga, not anime), and I really loved how Ishida showed Kaneki's mental state. It was one of the unique aspects that fell me love with the manga. Ishida's art is beautiful and I know that many people have problems with ending of re but *SPOILERS* His final confrontation with Rize was beautiful and I love how the story comes full circle.
@@yup7380 Og one actually by a little bit. :re was becoming my favourite one but the last 1/3rd of re was kinda underwhelming and rushed. However both are special for me.

Denji from Chainsawman is deff one of the best protagonists out there due to the character development he went through. At first, he's introduced as this dumb-minded, care-free person struggling at life and as he becomes one with Pochita, he starts to feel ' inhumane '. The fact that he's now ' Chainsawman ' makes him aware that his heart isn't truly human. As the story moves foward, he instead understands what being ' human ' is even though not fully being one and he realized this from the reltaionships he created and the events that he went through. It really shows the development he went through and the maturity he reached.
Which was why I personally disliked the ending of the first saga when he still couldn't outgrow his infatuation with the obviously toxic Makima and his desire for physical/sexual satisfaction... Like he was almost there, and he took a back turn...
Hey! Seeing you talk about Holyland reminded me of The Boxer. It’s a manwha by the same author of the Horizon and it honestly needs more love. You should check it out when you have the time.
Day 76 of asking Masked Man to read the Fate/Stay Night visual novel and/or The House in Fata Morgana My top 5 protagonists are Gintoki (Gintama) Michel Bollinger (The House in Fata Morgana) Araragi Koyomi (Monogatari) Emiya Shirou (Fate/Stay Night) Ryougi Shiki (Kara no Kyoukai)
If your going to get into Gintama again you need to get through the slow build up of the world and sorachi introducing the characters. Once you get about 40 chapters in when soravhinis done with the character intro build up is when the story really takes off. Sorachin improves as a writer over time to where Gintama might be near perfect. You'll see that as your read along.
While I want to name guts as my number 1 I’d have to say seiichi osabe from trail of blood as my favorite protagonist.I know he’s a fictional character but I’m so deeply sad and genuinely worried for his progression through his story(which is ongoing at the time).I feel as if I’m watching a chrysalis “slowly”transform into a monster that society and his mother have made him and it’s heartbreaking. If you haven’t read through trail of blood I’d highly recommended it as a realistic story of the effects of gaslighting and childhood abuses slowly turning him into what I can only imagine as a serial killer and a tragic one at that(as most killers start out). The artist shuzo oshimi is amazing in their art and the sheer pain that bleeds through their line work is felt on a level not many manga can reach me.

5. Gabimaru
4. Sugimoto - Golden Kamuy
3. Phos - Land of the Lustrous
2. Oz - Pandora Hearts
1. Kiritsugu - Fate/Zero
Kiritsugu is a 🐐
Big W for Phos and Oz. Both are two of the best characters I have seen in two of the best manga out there.
Damn you’re the first person I’ve seen other than me that puts Oz on their favorites list. Granted he’s at my number 15 for protagonists but still.
Pandora hearts is the best manga I’ve read so far
Oz, Sugimoto, and Phos??? Niceeeeeee. But really, I love Oz. Him, Gilbert, Elliot, Xerxes, and Alice too. But Oz. Love Oz. PH is the only manga I've read where I've actually cried for the characters. The cast is so lovely ❤
Watch gintama
So happy to see the D. gray man love
My favourite Protagonist is edward elric from FMA btw i would recommend you to watch FMA 2003 (the first adaptation of FMA)because edward is way more nuanced there FMA 2003 is far closer to a seinen where as brotherhood is more shounen FMA is an extremely dark story
Fma is just brotherwood but with anime only final arc
Ryo Narushima from Shamo is one of those characters that you just can't help but root for even though he represents the worst aspects of a human being. If you haven't read Shamo I highly recommend it.
yesssss
Ryo was definitely an interesting character indeed.
Yes definitely Ryo is one of the greatest mc's to ever exist in manga
Just seeing kenshin on your list is great haha I'm sure shishio will be on that antagonist list then. Also is gantz manga a lot better and more drawn out then the anime I wasn't the biggest fan of the anime.
Thanks for the recommendation on jigokuraku it's been super good so far and I've gotten 2 of my friends to start it!
Some of my favorite protagonist (not in order) :
• Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul)
• Musashi (Vagabond)
• Guts (Berserk)
• Phos (Houseki no Kuni)
• Gintoki (Gintama)
• Shiki (Kara no Kyoukai)
• Kiritsugu and Shirou (Fate Series)
• Hachiman (Oregairu)
• Lelouch (Code Geass)
• Light Yagami (Death Note)
• Naruto (Naruto Series)
• Violet (Violet Evergarden)
• Kaguya (Kaguya Sama)
Respect for having kaguya. I thought he'd have it on his list considering how much he loves the Manga.
@@eurekmazino1183 She is very enjoyable to watch. Love her relationship with Shirogane. I haven't caught up to the manga yet, heard many great things such as The Ice Kaguya arc.
@@yup7380 Bro you haven't caught up with the Manga and still like her that much? Man you're in for a treat. The Manga is just incredible, especially for kaguya's character.
@@eurekmazino1183 Yeah, I like her but not as much as the other like Violet. Maybe it's because I'm a big fan of comedy, it really increase my enjoyment.
Respect for Phosphophyllite an underrated protagonist
Alan walker
People still remember that great
Ichigo is also good
Ichigo is the goat for me. Naruto second. Others are Alucard, Yusuke, Thorfinn, Guts, Goku, Clare, Revy, Sinbad, Kenzo Tenma, Gintoki, Brandon Heat, Kenshin.
Love seeing Allen Walker on your list.
For me it's:
Jonathan joestar (bizzare adventures)
Kaiman (Dorohedoro)
Guts (berserk)
Shinji (evangelion)
Kurono kei (GANTZ)
Clare and teressia ( claymore
The culprit (umineko when they cry)
Rena(when they cry
Milon (when they cry, shion is also good)
Rosa and Maria(when they cry)
Sujatha (when they cry, the name is too familiar)
FurudeRika (when they cry)
Kinzo, da goldo Smithu ( when they cry)
Never thought Jonathan would be in anyone's top/favorite lists, appreciated. Is When They Cry franchise available as Light novel or should I try anime?
@@abylaiashken2611 it's a "visual novel" also called as sound novel
Its incredible, one of the best Stories written ever!!
Yeah it have anime and also a manga adaptation,
Try reading the novels of higurashi, umineko and ciconia (all of them are part of when they cry )
Then try their animes (higurashi, higurashi kai, higurashi rei, umineko no naku koro ni, higurashi gou) *the anime might disappoint you..*
And then read manga ...manga is one of the best adaptations :
Higurashi have
Question arcs and answer arcs that makes 8 arcs in total and some side stories that are also fun to read
( you can find all the arcs in mangadex.org and their information is also available there)
Umineko also have question arcs and answer arcs (8)
But umineko is like a "director's cut" of umineko when they cry novel...so you can say that it's safe to read the novels and think about the solution before reading the manga
Umineko involves thinking and understanding, but also reasoning, it heavily criticizes "spoon feeding"
You can avoid the anime if you want to...but read the manga of higurashi gou and soutsu as well
Ciconia is a visual novel, have no manga (ryūkishi will continue to write after the pandemic cuz the story is too similar to real world
Higurashi have live action drama and one live action movie, the story telling is amazing and it's actually good,I reccomend watching them if you are interested
@@abylaiashken2611 jonathan is my fav jojo
He is honest
Righteous
Courageous
And strong
Jonathan is the "Superman" JoJo. He represents what we humans should strive to be. I also like muscular characters as well (no homo).
@@Sneednfeedn It is very interesting to say the least. First 3 Jojo's are heroes in some way.
Jonathan is modeled after Kenshiro, Joseph after Stallone, Jotaro after Clint Eastwood.
I finish parasyte two months and man is it goated and shinichi my top 10 protagonists easily and parasyte became my top five
I really appreciate you cut it off at twomad, cuz I was waiting for the “haha jk guts.” But no you committed, and ended on it, and I have high respect for that LOL
My favourite is Tokyo Ghoul from the series ‘Ken Kaneki’
Same My favourite is Jojo Bizzare Adventure from the series 'Johnny Joestar'
Dr Tenma is so underrated in his own story. He's so well written and has an interesting fleshed out philosophy that he sticks to, and its amazing to see how he grows throughout the duration of the show.
Unpopular opinion but "Vash the stampede" is one of the most underappreciated protagonist ever.
Not that anyone asked but I recently compiled one of these myself so here’s my list:
22 Nanoha - Lyrical Nanoha
21 Tenma - Monster
20 Violet - Violet Evergarden
19 Simon - Gurren Lagann
18 Subaru - Re Zero
17 Hinata - Haikyuu
16 Shouma - Mawaru Penguindrum

6 Kiritsugu - Fate Zero
5 Araragi - Monogatari

1 Kumiko - Sound! Euphonium
Rare to see Okabe that high, cool list

Kiritsuguuuuuu... finally someone
Oz on the list,🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
dripping in taste.
How about the real black swordsman, Kirito? He's going through a lot of things that make his character compelling and his struggle make his journey's very beautiful to protect asuna and gain her memory's back because of the trauma.
Oh wait wrong story,my B.
I just love Thorfinn so much
Simon from Gurren Lagann and Gon from hunter x hunter are both pretty underrated
I feel you would love kiichi (manga is also called kiichi), he covers the theme of trauma and understanding death at a young age, growing up, and showing what would happen if someone challenges the laws of the world to do what they believe is right, truly a goat
I’ve heard great things about it from friends, is it fully translated?
@@upwiz6337 no, theses like 5 chapters left on normal to be be translated but they haven’t started transferring kiichi vs at all yet
Leí Akumetsu hace unas semanas por tu recomendación hace unos meses. Es espectacular, de lo mejor que leí en el año.
Kenzo Tenma from Monster will always remained my favourite character of all time bcus he is flawed but he had his strengths which are opposite of Johan and thats why the pair of them makes the perfect protagonist - antagonist duo
Kingdom Hearts sound effects... indeed a man of culture
Kiriyama Rei is also a great protagonist, top 5 in my opinion, but my boy doesn't get enough love
I finished season 1 and he feels like a very realistic character.
only few really talk about allen walker, and the way you talk about his character is really great, also goes the same way to the other characters. It really convinces me too to check and read the one I haven't read yet

Damn, you really just ended the video the way you did. That took some serious guts
Lol underrated comment
Gabimaru, along with the manga in general , is way too underrated I'm sure it's gonna get blown into the mainstream the second the anime comes out
Here to plug in one of my favorite characters in Anime; Hachiman Hikigaya, the protagonist from Oregairu.
Strongly agree 👍
Hachiman is such a great character I gotta agree on this one. Def in my top 20
everything you said about johnny was flawless, well done.
I recently caught up to D. Gray-man that shit is so wild I love Allen Walker

4) Shirou Emiya
5) Yang Wenli
6) Ren (Dies Irae)

Thank God that you mentioned the protagonist of sweet home
100% agree on Kaneki. Recently finished Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul re(manga, not anime), and I really loved how Ishida showed Kaneki's mental state. It was one of the unique aspects that fell me love with the manga. Ishida's art is beautiful and I know that many people have problems with ending of re but *SPOILERS*
His final confrontation with Rize was beautiful and I love how the story comes full circle.
Which one do you like more, OG TG or TG;RE ?
@@yup7380 Og one actually by a little bit. :re was becoming my favourite one but the last 1/3rd of re was kinda underwhelming and rushed. However both are special for me.

You got my like for the monster and kenshin placements.
Thank you for the AiB and Beastars hype up, those two series really don't get enough appreciation

Was really hoping he mentioned the greyman. And the mad lad delivered!!!!!
