Excellent Choice, Naoki’s consistency is unparalleled.
I especially love how he made all of his works around the same time
I mean at around one point I’d say late 1993, he admitted to working on 5 manga at the same time no longer than 2 weeks apart
YAWARA!
Master Keaton
HAPPY!
Monster
And Jigoro, all at the same time. It’s… something so great in my eyes.
Mangaka mentioned in this video:
0 - Kentaro Miura & Eiichiro Oda
1 - Tsutomu Nihei
2 - Shin-ichi Sakamoto
3 - Inio Asano
4 - Tatsuki Fujimoto
5 - Masasumi Kakizaki
6 - Takehiko Inoue
7 - Naoki Urasawa
Where is my goat 🐐Gege?
@@andod881 overrated shonen is still shonen, kid.
@@kachucho872Shonen is still better than 90 percent of garbage Seinen like Vagabond, Einstein.
@@kachucho872bro what lol
@@andod881 i mean don't get me wrong, i think JJK is good but it's nowhere near the level of some of these other mangaka's works
Goatki Urasawa is truly one hell of a *monster* writer, the level of consistently is just unreal
He really is a 20th Century Boy
He really isnt talked about enough, just like pluto
@@RealmBe Yeah Billy Bat is amazing too
Asadora!
The ending of 20th Century Boys is fucking shit
Gotta give Samura Hiroaki (Blade of the Immortal, Wave, Listen to Me!, Die Wergelder) some recognition. Extremely underrated in my opinion.
Agree, he writes amazing characters and his art is top tier
The fact that Urasawa worked on Monster and 20th CB AT THE SAME TIME. He's a legend.
He also worked on Pluto at the same time as 20th century boys and Billy Bat at the same time as Pluto
Great list! The main ones I would add for my list would be Q Hayashida, Hirohiko Araki (if you count the JoJo parts as separate series, but even if not he has other works too), Makoto Yukimura, Taiyo Matsumoto, CLAMP, Chica Umino, and probably Yumi Tamura and Ai Yazawa too (but I haven’t read enough of their works to say for sure). Maybe even Kouji Mori considering he’s going from Holyland now to Berserk (R.I.P Kentaro Miura)
Kouji Mori may not be the greatest artist in term of drawing but as a writer is pretty good. I like the themes dealt in Suicide Island
I absolutely adore dorohedoro but dai dark hasn’t quite gotten that good yet, so I’ll leave it to the future wether Q Hayashida makes it or not but if it becomes a hit she would be one of my all time fav
@@marin9412 I would agree that Dai Dark isn’t at that level yet but I think her artwork is still a delight to see in both series, and I do hope that Dai Dark could get at least somewhere close to that level
Love the chica mention 🙌🙌 we love march comes in like a lion
Yukimura the goat
I pray we get a 20th century boys adaptation one day.
It has
not everything has to be adapted
@@AJAY-si2zmproof?
@@toshinronin That’s true, I think this series would work well given how short it is.
Now that we are getting a pluto anime, maybe a 20th century boys adaptation is also not far away
Now that Bleach TYBW Cour 2 is currently airing, i think a "Depth of Bleachs Lore" video would be amazing, i feel like a ton of ppl are starting to finally appreciate Kubos moments of genius storytelling and foreshadowing. Also, if you haven't read the light novels SAWFY and CFYOW yet i highly recommend checking them out!
I would say my favorite manga Artists is Kentaro Miura R.I.P
I would say that for a single piece of work, it would have to be Miura, but Urasawa's consistency and ability to tell a story is unmatched. I mean you know you are good when people consider your newest manga the greatest you have made.
Inio Asano is the ultimate example of "IS THIS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU?! IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED?!"
Inoue has gotta be my favourite by far vagabond and slam dunk are top 5 manga ever
Asano is so damm good. Dead dead demons is one of my favorites. All his works got me sitting there thinking about shit.
I think Yoshihiro Togashi needs an honourable mention. He made one of the best and most influential shounen series of all the time, Yu Yu Hakusho, then went out to make an even better series, Hunter x Hunter.
Hxh is not better than yyh but its pretty close
@@terrellsm2522wait hxh's anime is my favourite anime, now you saying there's better one(manga)????
@@Pessler007 yuyu hakusho has a anime also and its complete yes yyh is better imo yusuke is one of the best mcs in anime
@@terrellsm2522 so which one's better, anime or manga?
@@Pessler007 I would say Anime is better.
Some of my favourites are Takehiko Inoue, Kafka Asagiri, Ai Yazawa, Yoshihiro Togashi, Makoto Yukimura, Hirohiko Araki, Inio Asano, Hiroya Oku, Kentaro Miura, Yoshiki Nakamura, Haro Aso, Q Hayashida, Eiichiro Oda, Akira Hiramoto, Kiyohiko Azuma, Satoru Noda, Aka Akasaka and Naoki Urasawa plus I'm sure there's many more I love to mention but that's good for now lul
I really hope Yawara gets picked up an English release . It's good to see a light hearted story from Urasawa other than murder mystery
Takehiko Inoue, Naoki Urasawa, Tite Kubo, ONE, Yoshihiro Togashi, Eichiro Oda, Makoto Yukimura, Yasuhiro Nightow, Hirohiko Araki, Kohei Horikoshi, Masashi Kishimoto, Tatsuki Fujimoto, Inio Asano, Katsuna Hoshino, Junji Ito, Masasumi Kakizaki, Yuki Tabata, and Kentaro Miura all gotta be among my favorites personally (the keyword is personally), I know Inoue would be my favorite among all, Urasawa not far behind 👍 so many talented mangakas out there, too many to list
Great list
Akutami gege.
@@Mohamed-gv1zt if Jujutsu keeps riding high as it’s mostly been, I can see me putting Gege that high. His action is almost unparalleled. Almost, cause Sakamoto Days does go beyond it imo
@@angelgomez7081 thank you bro 👍
Bro mentioned kishimoto in the same paragraph as Miura and Urasawa 💀💀💀💀
Takehi inoue is def my fav so far
love the hollow knight background music
i thought i was the only one😂😂😂😂
anyone that has both Innocent and Innocent Rouge on their top 10 has my respect off the jump. For fuck sake innocent rouge had a musical for a chapter
I don't remember, which chapter?
Aw man, no Shuzo Oshimi?
Happiness
Blood on the Tracks
Flowers of Evil
The mangaka who did Usogui and Batuque seriously needs recognition.Q.hayashida(author of Dorohedoro and Dai dark)is also really great.
Usogui peak
Finally someone said it!. Btw has masked read usogui?
@@ainsley7189 I don't think he did
Yeah@@ainsley7189
Hiro Mashima is my favourite mangaka, his series aren’t in my top favourites but I enjoy them. But it’s him himself that I like, he currently has 3 manga going, he’s involved in games, in the animes, he has a TH-cam channel. He’s definitely one of the most productive mangaka.
My number one is Araki, followed by Urasawa and very closely Asano. Not only they create masterpieces, but they actually make the vibe of the piece so good you can actually feel like the characters (especialy Punpun).
Fun Fact Asano uses actual photo for his photorealistic backgrounds as seen in his Manben Episode (yes that show where Mangaka get filmed by fixed gopros and Urasawa meets the Mangaka to review the footage afterwards and talk about their drawing techniques).
4:56 Playboi Carti Punpun cameo
Kentaro Miura, Sakamoto Shinichi, Inio Asano, Naoki Urusawa and Togashi
Yeah there are just too many amazing mangka to name, but these are some of my favourites.
I started manga/anime with shonen (as most of us do), but you convinced me to read Monster. I kid you not that was life changing regarding my world view. That series transformed how viewed people and life. I love Tenma and Johan, but the side characters make the story so vibrant. After that, I was sold on Sienen. Now I’m Volume 10 of Berserk. I can’t wait to read Vagabond next. Thanks for the great content. Keep it up:
They're both good
Don’t give up on Shonen, although there’s more than Battle Shonen, and there’s a lot of amazing stories.
Some of the best shonen that I would say are on par with some of the best of seinen are Rurouni Kenshin, Slam Dunk, Jojo’s Parts 1-6 (7-9 are seinen), Yu Yu Hakusho, Great Teacher Onizuka, D. Gray-man, Fullmetal Alchemist, HUNTERxHUNTER, One Piece, Mob Psycho 100, and for my personal sake, Bleach. Heavily recommend each of them 👍
Oh I definitely haven’t. I still love Shonen. I wasn’t trying to say one is better. It’s just that before I was kind of not open to reading seinen manga especially existential stuff, but now I am.
@@NinthShinigami and Ippo
Some of my favourite: Shuzo Oshimi, Inio Asano, Q Hayashida, Somato, Usamaru Furuya, Masasumi Kakizaki, Haro Aso, Non. I'm a sucker for manga dealing with people's psyche and everyday life, real problems, traumas, dark edgy atmosphere preferred.
I need Climber in English prints. They’re so beautiful. They just started to release Innocent in English so hopefully Climber is next.
Bro, my speakers work fine for every other youtuber at 40% video at max. I cant hear you on the other side of my bedroom in my silent house at 80%. Might be something to note for future videos. Great work as always though, love your videos i know this one will be a banger as well.
My number 1 will probably always be Nobuyuki Fukumoto. If he'd only written Kaiji that'd be enough to say he's had a great career as a mangaka, but his bibliography goes so much deeper than that. Akagi is a masterclass in character psychology and tension, Strongest Man Kurosawa is a wildly entertaining and surprisingly touching read, and the final arc of Ten had me weeping throughout the entire thing. That's without mentioning his other works, which are usually pretty good as well! An absolute genius who's never gotten a fraction of the appreciation he deserves overseas
One of my favorite mangaka🗿🤝
Zawa zawa
Inoue is a goat man. Bro could've retired comfortably after Slam Dunk but nah he put out banger after banger with Vagabond and Real
Hey so off topic but can you read MONSTRESS. It’s a western comic but it takes a lot from eastern culture. I’m really enjoying it so far. Can you please check it out?
My top 5:
5. Inio Asano
4. Junji Ito
3. Naoki Urasawa
2. Hirohiko Araki
1. Tatsuki Fujimoto
It's the first ever in my twenty years of life that I write a comment on YT but That's some amazing picks right there. ALthough I haven't yet read some of the manga you mentioned, all of these mangaka deserve the credit you're giving them.
My favourite is Fujimoto, cause the only thing I love more than manga is cinema, so yeah, the best though it's n°1Urasawa and n°2 Sakamoto, those 2 are beasts
Dude! I totally agree about the scene in Pluto, that's what really hooked me on the series
I remember reading Hideout after you talked about it in one of your videos a while back, scared the shit out of me. So thanks for that.
You should also read Green Blood and Rainbow; they are other works by the author of Hideout.
@@The_Sword_saint2.0 yeah probably will everything I saw from him in this video looked great
Yeah Urasawa is my goat. He has so many consistent bangers. But inoue and kentaro,Sakamoto, yukimura, Asano are goats and in my top ten.
Hiroya Oku is also one of the best Mangaka oat in my opinion creating peak mangas like Inuyashiki and Gantz
I wanna shout out Masanori Morita too, who's personally my #1 mangaka. His realistic style is super unique, especially when it comes to faces and facial expressions.
How do you read so many manga so fast? Genuine question.
The body horror of innocent was impeccable
nice hollow knight music :3
i thought i was the only one😂😂😂😂
A mangaka i love and rarely see mentioned is Shintaro Kago.
The man is insane when it comes to creativity and weirdness to the point where i don't care if his stories are badly written (which is usually my top priority).
The pure surealisim combined with his sense of humor and his artistic explorations, that as an artist myself i can't even image how you begin to draw the storyboards of some of his stories... it's just something else.
Definitely not for everyone, but i higly recommend him for those few that will appreciate him as much as me.
why did you have to scream in the best part of the video :(
Inoue heard you taking shit and said he's ready to resume Real
To me holyland and climber are my favorite mangas
Wtf what is that first one. Artwork is just incredible😊
My personal favorites:
1. Taiyou Matsumoto (Sunny, Takemitsuzamurai, Ping Pong, Tokyo Higoro)
2. Mitsuru Adachi (Cross Game, Touch, H2)
2. (tied) Makoto Ojiro (Insomniacs After School, Neko no Otera no Chion-san, Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki)
4. Kozue Amano (Aria)
5. Kiyohiko Azuma (Yotsubato!, Azumanga Daioh)
6. Jirou Taniguchi (A Journal of My Father, A Distant Neighborhood, Inu wo Kau)
Honorable mentions:
Kazuo Koike/Kojima Goseki (Lone Wolf and Cub)
Chuuya Koyama (Space Brothers)
Chika Umino (3-gatsu no Lion)
Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Fuyumi Souryo (Mars)
I’m glad this list gives me the chance to look at other mangakas I haven’t seen. I’ve heard Aria is very similar to mudachi Kun no Sakai ( my personal sol fav) and was curious if Yotsubato is worth reading (with this list now giving me the encouragement so thx for that)
@@ghostknight4147
If you liked Machida-kun no sekai, I'm sure you'll have a good time with Aria as well. It's the most positive and life-affirming piece of media I've ever read, and it's my favorite manga. Just keep in mind, if you read it online (the physical version is hard to get), that it has 14 volumes, the first 2 named Aqua and the last 12 named Aria (it switched magazines in between).
Yotsubato! is great too. The way it depicts childhood is magical, and it's by far the funniest manga I've read. It's also really mature in its writing and understanding of parenthood. It's just a shame that the creator barely releases chapters.
I hope you have a good time with them if you decide to check them out.
Finally someone who loves Mars
Would like to add toshio sako for usogui, thank you in advance
Can someone recommend a website or app to read manga on?
urasawas art is so good it’s my favorite
Oda is my favorite because One Piece is my favorite, but I'd also nominate Hiromi Arakawa. She's a fantastic writer, and her artstyle is good looking but simple enough to allow her to focus on other aspects, like paneling.
Peak Choices Honestly
Hollow knight music ? I see ur a man of culture
i thought i was the only one😂😂😂😂
Bro finally reading kingdom!! again thanks goodness 🎉👏
Really enjoying Choujin X right now. Fully caught up with it. Only manga I'm caught up with is Jojolands, Witch Hat Atelier, Choujin X, and CSM part 2. Have a buddy that owns the whole Punpun collection and gonna borrow that at some point. Fire punch and/or Gachiakuta will be the next series i dive into. Def put ones in this vid on my to-read list.
i dont think urasawa is great, its just the rest 99% of mangakas suck at writting dialogue, they are art people they tell their stories through the art they dont know how how to be novelists
I also really enjoy shuzo oshimi works
My favorite mangaka are Sui Ishida and Naoki Urasawa because they just don’t miss. There are a couple manwha authors that I think are amazing as well. Maybe you can make a video on that as well?
Look I love most of these mangakas but that HOLLOW KNIGHT MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND IS DISTRACTING ME SO MUCH
Kingdom is the highest selling senien, it just reached 100million isn’t vangabond like 80 or am I wrong
kingdon around 95 and vagabond around 82 millions yes
@@theshonenmaster2989 nah kingdom reached 100 last week. atleast it was announced then
@@uchenna8885 interesting.
There is a video that documents Shinichi Sakamoto's process, titled :-
'Shinichi Sakamoto, manga creation in the digital era' by Archipel
Inoue is the definition of perfection, the are art enthralling and the story telling are so fluent it's flow naturally especially in vagabond which make none the anime studio had the guts to adapted to anime.
While urasawa is the master off brilliant story and plot.
Does anyone know the background music during Sakamotos Climber and Innocent segment? It sounds so familiar...

It seems that he weaves stories similar to Osamu Tezuka, with his secondary characters very tangible, instead of seeming like an extra and disposable NPC. You read it and it's as if that universe were alive.
Honorable mention to "Keisuke Itagaki" maybe 🤔
I read climber like 1~2 months ago, guess I gotta check out his other works
I’ve read four volumes of punpun and I literally don’t feel anything is that how it’s supposed to be? I don’t feel happy or sad I just don’t know if I’m understanding
Naoki Urasawa is still hold the number one position for me but Hajime Isayama creates another thing on level of AoT he'll become my favorite writer of all time in general
For me my favourite mangaka is Rumiko Takahashi, she is a perfect mangaka.
Underrated mangaka for me would be Matsumoto Jiro, his work Freesia is an absolute masterpiece and I’d highly recommend it, especially if you love deep psychological stories that make you think.
Also Mochizuki Jun has the best manga of all time under her belt with Pandora Hearts don’t @ me
Would love a video for dedede read it after finishing punpun and quickly become my favourtite work by Asano
Tayio Matsumoto is a glaring omission of this list. Imo he is far above the rest, but objectively he should be in any self-respecting top 5
Good recommendations, but I'm pretty sure 'rouge' is supposed to be pronounced 'roo-j' and not 'rogue.' It's french.
Bro really showed the last panels to monster and bulky bat without a spoiler warning wtf bro. Gotta edit this
I love those mangas read all of them 🫶🏻
"What can he do? Aside from finish Vagabond" XDDDDDDDDD
If Isayama writes another story on the same level as AOT I think he would be equal to urasawa for me at least🙌🙌
i wish Toshio sako become more popular or atleast usogui get anime adaptation. The amount of detailed artstyle usogui has is godly
I’m glad I’m not the only who thought Asano’s works looked like Gumball lmao
Speaking of takehiko inoue I just watch the slam dunk slam dunk movie which im pretty sure u already know that he also directed it. And it really brought back "the feels" and makes me wish he continued the story 🔥
4:57 bro tried sneaking in cheef keith from rap and thought we wouldn't notice 😹
Kakizaki is just the artist for Rainbow tho..
also important to mention that Urusawa was pretty much always writing at least two, if not three, series simultaneously
Ok, you convinced me. To this day I only watched Monster (which already is enough to agree that Naoki os a genius), but today I'm starting 20th century boys. I know I'm gonna love it, so I'll just say right here. Thank you!
Just one thing
Many say the ending was underwhelming
So you can go check out 21 at century boys
But regardless of that
Those who understand urasawa genius
They won't find any trouble with the ending which are 100%ambigious
