One of greatest album of all time. Collection of the greats. Charlie Parker, Johnny Hodges, Ben Webster, Charlie Shavers, J. C. Heard , Barney Kessell, and the great Oscar Peterson. Do yourself a favor and listen to these great solo performances. It’s the truth 😎😎😎
I totally agree. Hodges' tone and solo is great and bluesy, but then comes Bird, and with only a phrase... OMG! his solo is at Parker's Mood level at least
I had to read Sonny's blues for an essay, and they mention Charlie parker's blues. The blues really takes you back in time, and its calming. It's great to listen to.
Inconfundible el saxo de Charlie Parker, con su invención para construir improvisaciones en los coros progresivos, que enriquecen las líneas melódicas.
Absolute genius. I like to use this Parker solo and Cool Blues to demonstrate to people how versatile the blues progression is. This is light years beyond what the general public and especially most guitar players think of as "blues" - i.e. SRV or Clapton or whatever. White folks ruin everything...
Drums: J.C. Heard Piano: Oscar Peterson Alto Saxophone: Johnny Hodges Alto Saxophone: Benny Carter Alto Saxophone: Charlie Parker Trumpet: Charlie Shavers Guitar: Barney Kessel Double Bass: Ray Brown Composer: Johnny Hodges ???? please confirm this info.
Help me understand the reason for this edit. Such a beautiful piece to have so much edited out makes it difficult to listen to. (solos by Peterson, Kessel, Phillips out.) A must-have album though.
Yes the 3 Alto Blues and big Ben with Oscar le Grand on piano , what a great talent on this Masterpiece !.........🫂
One pof the finest blues perfornances. Says everything about jazz that needs to be said.

THE standard blues of the time done by the very best of the time!!!...YEAH!!
Sublime Charlie Parker showing the rest of the band the way. One of his best ever recorded solos

Best ever.
Dream team
Starting at 3:31, is that Benny Carter? The lick at 3:36-3:42 is beautiful.
Benny Carter starts right there.
The trumpet is Charlie Shavers, not Stevens. A remarkable summit of probably the three greatest jazz altos of all time.
Fats Blows

Oscar Peterson's and Barney Kessel's solos were edited out. Not too elegantly either.
