I have been watching, and now following for at least two months, and as an artist myself, I must say I have never seen such a pure clean approach to landscape painting in my life! You have shown me things that I may surely try in my own paintings, but moreover, you have inspired me. Your size choice for canvas, and the attention to detail in that size is mind blowing! I am use to painting on larger canvas and larger, to include mural size paintings, and I still don't get the level of detail that you put in your small paintings. I enjoy each video you put out, and will continue to follow, as well as take to heart various tips you give! Thanks so much for you time on here!

I enjoy painting pine trees. Triangles that point to the sky become more vibrant. Next to an upwardly pointing triangle is one that points down and becomes darker nearer the point. M.C. Escher turned me on to that. Make tiles as you wish and the set them.
    : ) btw/ THIS VIDEO IS GREAT !

Another great video. Its the subtlety of the greens that prevents the painting turning into a shapeless mass of green. At some point in the future can you show us how to paint a near ground pine (say a Scots Pine) which has a different form from the Sitka Spruce in this painting. Thanks.

Hi Michael, I watched several videos of you and I have some question about your brushes you are using as well as your colors... We have in your next video explanation of your brushes and number and also the choice of your color palette (your color names) to make your trees because I have a difficulty with the tones on the depth (what you use to make your backgrounds for the trees)... I have a suggestion for to do you this would be to write in your description at the bottom of your video…
Because I think that you are a painter who made so realistic paintings and I also like paint realistic so you are for me a mentor (a great teacher) thank you for your attention to my request so at all his wonderful explanations that you give in your video because you are a very generous painter of your time and your technique I find super good…

Hi, I think your videos are so helpful and informative. Thank you for making everything so clear and it's really helped my painting 🙂. I don't know how you decide which videos to make but could you consider a landscape with rain? I'm so impressed when anyone can paint rain, I really want to be able to but I just can't figure it out. Particularly when the rain is shining off a rock or other flatter surface.

Thanks for another brilliant video and especially the brush trimming tip. Love your work, you definitely hsare your father's gift.

Hey Michael, I know wide open environments are kind of your thing, but I was wondering if you've ever done forest scenes and if you'd mind filming one for us if so. There are some interesting vegetation(e.g. moss) that grows in forests that I'd be interested in seeing your approach to painting them.
Anyways, loving the channel, keep it up :).

    Hi Michael
Yes, another very fine tutorial and it seems that you have a flair for capturing the essence of the natural world through your various brush techniques.
A question that I have for you is this: do you think that you're still evolving as an artist in the technique/style that you currently employ or do you feel that you've reached your zenith and will retain your current approach to your art?( I'm not referring to your level of competency, just your artistic style).
"Lydomina", who has posted a comment below has recognised your preference for painting "open environments", no doubt in recognition of your obvious strengths, but are you tempted to try another genre in the future?
    Wishing you all the best,
    Nick Harvey.

    • @NickPenlee
      @NickPenlee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That's very interesting Michael. There are many here who share your love of realism, hence the level of interest in every one of your postings on youtube.
Yes there is a young American lad called Kevin Hill who has a fairly loose style to landscapes and I do admire some of his art, albeit that he's clearly evolved from a 'Bob Ross' style of painting.
I'm heartened that you're hoping to share your artistic journey with us all in the future and look forward to it ever so much.
Perhaps i'm speaking out of turn (and not to upset your viewers) but I personally cannot abide the Jackson Pollack's of this crazy world of art with the high prices they command at auction; I consider the Impressionists to be the last movement in art to have any true sense of validity!
Your work genuinely earns its worth my friend!
      Nick

I am a big fan of your teaching techniques and have improved my own paintings through your tutorage. However, #68 is out of focus and is difficult to follow along with the progress, seeing improvements with each step. I would also like to see techniques in painting waterfalls. Your trees are surpassed by few if any!

I have painted stylistic realism for over 50 years, but I just recently switched my style to photo-realistic, so it’s no joke, I fully intend to paint every stinking needle. Sure, I could paint a Bob Ross style painting in 20 minutes, but that’s not what I’m after. In the photo I am using as a reference, there are several distinct pine trees in the foreground. For the ones in the mid ground and background, I did with you’re suggestiing but I guess I created my own problem by choosing the subject matter I did.
