THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Thanks for posting this series' of videos'!Doing a lot of trees',like this, takes' a lot of time.Glad to hear that a pro gets' tired of doing a group like this.Ha!Thanks so much for the insightful videos'!🥂
My favorite artist to try and emulate, can’t come close but I enjoy his technique.
Thank you so much for teaching us how to paint in a bigger panel, showing us the brushes and technique, I was waiting for this one! I'm looking forward to see the complete painting technique in the different sections of the painting, please film all of it.
You're patience to get the look of every single leaf on every tree is amazing! You make each painting look easy, but I know the technique takes a lot of practise. Huge respect.
Hi Michael, I always wondered how the very distant trees were done. This video is great as you showed us how it is done. I have been blocking in with acrylic for a long time but when it came to the oil detail, such as your trees, I was having lots of problems. I also cut a brush to form the "V" as you showed. Works great!! I have learned so much from your videos and look forward to them every week. I am 70 years young and started painting in my mid 50's. I stumbled upon it (a very long story) and wished I had done so in my youth!! BUT....I am loving it and paint every day now...not a bad retirement!!! THANK YOU for your generosity of sharing your MASTER knowledge.
wonderful info Mike, you have improved my painting no end. i could listen to you all day!!
I've started using some of your techniques in my paintings and I love it! I honestly can't tell you how much of a help it has been. I check this site almost every day. Please keep it up!
Great work! Thank you for sharing the details about paintings, and giving information about the brushes and paints as the same time as well.
Dear Michael,
Somehow, I overlooked this video, which is the basis for all your subsequent instruction on foliage. I now realize I have to wait for any mid-layer of oil paint to dry completely before I add the next layer. You also showed me that I was using paint that was too thin in some instances and that I was using too much paint in other instances. All this resulted in frustrating failure which levied a distinct depression on me when I looked at your work with the realization that I would never approach your level of expertise. Now, at least I can start over again, armed withe the knowledge you conveyed in this video. Thank you.

What a great lesson Michael Thankyou
So beautiful! Thank you so much for these, they are so helpful. You are an amazing teacher.
than you for explaining the brushes you are using and your tutorials. You are a great teacher... thank you sooo much.
it's better than photograph, superb, well done!
Thanks a million Michael for sharing us the right tools and techniques. My painting getting better thanks to your advices.
Again thank you and waiting patiently for the next part.
Michael, I just felt compelled to let you know how much I’ve gained from your lessons. Ive had a few lessons before and I’ve been a practicing artist for years. However when it came to painting I often got unstuck not realising the important of working from dark to light to achieve contrast. Seems so obvious now but how much I appreciate this understanding from years of frustration. Also I like your relaxed down earth approach. Thanks so much
Thank you Michael for all information that you just put on this video; because this is for me a very rewarding to continue information to improve myself in my paintings of landscape...
Thank you so much Micheal for giving us detailed instruction! I'm having so much fun trying these techniques... I really appreciate your constant updates here...
Excelente maestro, que bueno que estos magníficos tutoriales pudieran ser traducidos para los que hablamos el Español, son estupendos, felicitaciones.
I dare say it looks more pretty than the picture...
Great work, as always. This was very informative...
This is very helpful as I prefer larger paintings at this time, and so I can use any time-saving tips I can get! Thanks!
Thanks Michael! Just absolutely invaluable tutelage.
Hey Micheal,
Since a few weeks i am following your works. Its amazing with how much patience you constantly create new artworks. You are a very big inspiration for me and i already can see the results in my oilpaintings. Thanks for sharing this and go on making these videos. You are a big help! Greetings from Ibiza ✌🏼
Alex
I think that this technique is a good way for" an artist in training" (me) to get the look and feel of each canopy and from there get better results with the rigger brush. Your more detailed didactic comments are hugely appreciated. Thanks again
really enjoy your work and your tuturials. I have painstaked through my landscapes and have been timid. You are making it easier. thankyou!!!
Thank you Michael. I agree Rosemary and Co brushes are the best I've ever used, particularly for this type of work!
Great work as always, thanks Michael for your invaluable help.
Thank you Michael .. God bless you.. really thank you

Fantastic Michael, I am painting a similar hillside of trees so it’s just what I needed to see. Won’t turn out anywhere near your standard, but I’m learning fast. Thanks very much. Brilliant as always. Cheers.
Thanks, Michael, great tutorial, very well explained, congratulations on your channel.
I must admit,I always imagine what the next theme will be...and I never guess;)Last time-lapse video you showed to us was masterpiece,as all is, after all,but the thing I want to say is that I see your video and say "wow, what a great theme,I must do something like that",and while I make myself start on one,you release new video and new idea come;)
Anyway, that just state in my mind that whatever you paint is worth hanging on wall in any of the best world galleries, and after that,on some lucky wealthy buyer's home wall...
Thank you again Mike for alowing us into your world and showing us how art history is made with every new painting of yours...
As usual...very informative and beautiful.
Wow! Wonderful work many thanks. Thanks for the tips and info on brushes.

Beautiful you make it look so easy

Michael, I haven't heard from you for awhile.. remember, I am your number one fan. Iam a little down about it. You are the Mozart of the art world, so old friend don't forget me or I will haunt you forever,. Fran p.s. No more drinks until I hear from you
This one helps me a lot! I haven't been able to get that triangular shape with my brushes so I'll order the the one you mentioned and give it a go. Also, thank you for mentioning the colour mix. 😃😃😃
+fran hanson...hi, I ordered the Ivory and riggers...the ivory is a wonderful brush. ..happy painting ....
Its always good to see your beautiful work, thank you for sharing your experience of different types of brushes. I was asked to paint the wall which I never have the experience but I guess in that case use bigger brushes? I will be continue watching your video.
You do beautiful work it's just so much you got to learn I'm confused about the good work

Marvelous....
It is really very awesome
amazing as always
Damn it man! Someone should invent a canopy brush like a stippling brush that will give you a nice real look with one stab on the canvas. Lol lol lol. Reason being!!
I have to hold my breath to use this method and o get dizzy from not breathing enough. Lol lol lol
It's a toss up. I either breath and dont detail ! Or detail and keep getting up off the floor. Lol lol lol.
Just joking!! But I do realize I'm holding my breath to do this.
Thanks Michael for the lessons. Great job as always. Your way of painting is truly spectacular.
Great!!; i´ll be waiting for the next part ! :)
Grande artista. Parabéns pela técnica
Thank you.
Excelente parabéns
Thanks for sharing 👍
Excellent job, that man. :-) It's good to see this technique. I don't know if you've tried to respond to one of my comments in the past and have failed, it was my settings that caused this. It's been sorted now, so if you want to tell me to 'bog off' please do so. :-)
I had to come back and watch this again after watching #81. It almost looks like you glazed the entire hillside with a pale blue/white, chalky glaze between videos to push the hillside back, but I see that isn't the case at all.
I see, now, that you started with a paler-than-usual underpainting to create the effect (quite splendidly, I might add). Did you simply add white to your darks on the hilside? And do you pale the background highlights with white or by greying them (or both)?
Very nice
brother your work is just off the hook,i am a great fan, question,do u have any DVDs out there for sale on full tutorials?if yes where can i get them?thanks micheal.

I am new to painting and love your work. Am I correct in thinking you blocked in with acrylic then glazed with the Griffin Alkyd? What do you usually thin with? I am currently using W&N professional without medium it takes sooooo long to dry.
Super
Hi Michael, what's your routine for cleaning your brushes? I just bought a new set of brushes from Rosemary&Co and want to make sure there being thoroughly cleaned!
Michael James Smith That's ok! I've heard people storing them in Vaseline or baby oil to keep their shape, but I was skeptical, do you have good tips that you've heard over the years?
Wonderful artist. I need brushes like u using.can u help how we will purchase
This would work well for painting broccoli too.
How long do you normally paint over one painting ?
Sorry for my english .
Michael the beginning of another great looking painting, you said another panel 20x30, did you use a panel or is this a stretched canvas.
Mikejs
Michael j Smith hi, MJS is using panel on this one...
😍😍😍❤❤❤
Hi, your works you paint her to oil or acrylic? You are fantastic
rip english
thank you for the answer
Michael, great video as always. I was wondering, which kind of brush should I use to paint the initial darker glaze on the acrylic base of trees? I recently bought a few of your suggested Rosemary brushes and I gotta say they're really, really well made, but I can't find a brush that can create that fine glaze effect with liquid black (they get too muddy when I try it).
I'm getting the "muddy" effect when I am trying at as well Riccardo. I took the scissors to more than a few brushes and gave them "hair cuts" to no avail. I totally abused a brush hoping to torture it into a new shape, no luck. I'm beginning to think it's not the brush but my technique...maybe I'm a bit heavy handed...I don't know. Have you gotten anywhere in the past month?
Hi MC, yea it got way better for me actually. As Michael said, it's important to just barely touch the canvas, but I found it's even more important to load the brush properly: clean the brush after you mixed the glaze to unload it completely. Then just lightly load the brush and it won't get muddy. Also, you might want to need a proper brush for the glaze, and this one is pretty much perfect: www.rosemaryandco.com/watercolour-brushes/tree-texture-brush/rotary-brush?filter_name=textureit's a bit pricey but it's a really good brush. Honestly once I started buying my brushes from Rosemary website, I got way better. The last painting I've done (which is basically a replica of one of Michael's work):imgur.com/a/8vs27 Let me know if you have more questions, I'm not good by no means but I can try and tell you whether it is something that I've figure out or not.
I think it's all about the pressure! Thank you, Micheal. I appreciate the time you took to respond.
Riccardo, thank you so much for your detailed response and the links to the brush site. I absolutely love your water, well done! I've not even attempted water yet.
You're right, I have to clean the brush and only then, lightly load it and use very little pressure. Thanks again for your response. I truly appreciate it.
I am trying to do the tree leaves... it is very difficult find a brush and the correct technics...
Which canvas u use for oil painting
I know you use water colors. Is there a particular brand brand you prefer? What I'm using the colors don't seem as rich.
Michael James Smith oops. I thought it was water colors then oil. I love your work. Now I need you patience.
Do you change colors?
Yes

To everyone peopel who ca'nt speak english Pls stopp writting stupit commments!!!!....
