- Episode 3 of Fallout - The Cutting Room Floor. In today's episode we take a look at Fallout 1's cut raiders, The Vipers and The Jackals. We also look at Shady Sands, Vault 15, Aradesh, Tandi, The Hub, The Kahn's and how these tribes would end up reappearing in both the design documents of Van Buren and Fallout New Vegas.

I like to think the Vipers and Jackals were still there around F1 and F2 but just out of range for the player to interact with. Atleast we got them in FNV although very weak at this point thanks to the NCR and Rangers.
Still for story sake it makes sense and I'm glad they're back in.
I'm glad they included them in FNV, even if few players actually knew they were.
Before watching this video for some reason I was under the impression that they were in Fallout 1/2 and that the NCR was the reason they were so weak in NV.
There's a FNV raider mod ,that created lore specific armour and weapons for the Vipers. Bone armour and bone bows and venom poisoned arrows.
Also clothing ,armour for Jackals were they wear some furs and leather armour and jackal heads as helmets. Like Vulpes wears. Jackals have cannibal perk as a default. As that's their practice,lore.I think you can join either groups in the mod, do side quests for them.

The Vipers and Jackals are a tragic case as until new Vegas they always got screwed over besides the first fallout both gangs where meant to appear in Van Buren the Vipers would be lead by a man named Drake and the Jackals would be lead by Banshee other Jackals included Howler And Crazy Bitch lastly the Jackals where meant to appear in Fallout Brotherhood of Steel 2 Banshee would have returned as the leader of the Jackals the player would chase him through an airport until another Jackal named Bulldog appeared to fight the player during the fight Banshee would board a plane and escape later on the player would corner Banshee and interrogate him only for him to explode before he could talk

Can you make a video on Salem? I felt there were missed opportunities there with only one quest involving a crazy guy killing mirelurks.
I definitely will at some point, but I currently have a long backlog of videos in the works already, regarding Tactics, The Combat Zone, Old World Blues, modding videos, etc.
If the next fallout does not have a raider gang called the murder hobos, it's gonna be a missed opportunity.

As a stargate fan it's funny hearing Killian (voiced by Richard dean Anderson) talk about them "worshipping snakes"
I'm bummed that we never see more of them in game, as their stories are pretty interesting and in addition to the Khans, also makes the NCR becoming what it has more impressive. Like everyone out of that vault became bastards except for one small group, and wouldn't have lasted without the intervention of a protag. Makes me wonder if they would have survived up to NV if either the Khans or NCR wiped each other out, as both of those factions aren't shy about conquest.
Tbf, if it Shady Sands did not survive - another 'NCR' would've risen from The Hub, Junktown, Necropolis or any other town of survivors. Ofc, it would've also been drastically different both in ideals, symbolism and structure.

The Fiends remain my favourite raider faction from the Fallout series.

If the factions were collapsed down into one, does that mean that some khans you fight are replaced raiders from the other two factions?
I'm not so sure. Other than Garl Deathhand, the Khans only have two named NPCs you can speak to and neither of them seem related to the Vipers/Jackals, but it's possible their names were at least recycled.

That's a trick question. NOBODY doesn't love when TriangleCity drops another cut content banger. For true Fallout fans. There is NEVER enough cut content until every single inch of every game has been scraped shiny, and we're left waiting for new cut content to come into reality.

Hey so I just found this a couple of days ago in Fallout 3, but in the Franklin metro station cell space, a little ways south of the main station and platform are two nearly identical sqare rooms, I had no clue this existed and pondered of this had anything to do with any cut space or anything, probably just a place for enemies to spawn or something but I still have no clue what it could be, perhaps this is of interest to you considering you have been going through a bunch of Fallout 3 cut content recently.

After since point lookouts enemies are a lot tougher compared to the enemies in broken steel.

Oooh for a New Vegas mod?
The Vipers make no sense. If their entire belief system revolves around constant sacrifices and ingesting deadly Venom, where are they getting the fresh bodies? They aren't the only ones in the area that need Humans, Super-Mutants also do. I do not think that part of America would have anywhere near a large enough population of Humans and/or Ghouls to make them feasible. Unless the Giant Viper Venom actually wasn't all that deadly and they just randomly selected who among them would be sacrificed. That seems more realistic. A Giant Snake likely wouldn't have potent venom as there would be no need for it due to it's staggering size.
i think in new vegas the vipers should of been a full faction a minor one but still a faction their motivations being gaining the ability to mobilize in order to retake their holy land. if with the legion you convince them to join but if you join the vipers then go into the legion you can help the vipers indoctrinate a significant portion of the legion while joining them giving the legion vipers special purple and red armor with a reskin of that one armor that has the banner hanging above the head but with a viper on the banner this giving a special ending if caesar dies the legion becoming unified under the serpent everything throwing in little details referencing roman cults throughout this whole plot direction. The NCR's version of the quest would just be a go here kill everyone quest

Tunnel Snakes Rule.
You don't know how badly I want to earn a perk called Snake Eater in a Fallout game. Also, there's a bizarre lack of snake enemies in Fallout. Spiders too. How odd
Snakes would be much harder to put in than another humanoid or quadruped. They require a unique skeleton, unique animations, different pathing, etc. That's super expensive for an enemy that you probably wouldn't see in more than a handful of locations. That being said, it would be super cool.

Is there any cut content regarding the lore behind Nuka Cola Quartz and Victory? It always bugged me that there was never any kind of story or explanation for them.
Not that I'm aware of, but it's possible it existed at one point and was deleted. Bethesda were much better at deleting unused content that Obsidian

It took me three different tries at starting fallout 1 before I could actually get into it but god damn once I did that game became my favorite in the series. Anybody who is a fan of retro games has to play fallout.
