  • Eating thunder tea rice in Singapore!
🍔 Singapore’s Best Plant Based Burgers: • Shocking Burgers in Si...
SINGAPORE - Today we’re going to eat one of the healthiest hawker center street food dishes you can eat in Singapore - thunder tea rice!
You’ll find this amazing Hakka dish all over Singapore, and it includes rice and seeds topped in an abundance of fresh vegetables and mushrooms, and served with a basil and sesame seed soup - that has the greenness of matcha tea - on the side. The vegetables and rice goes so well together with the basil heavy soup and they compliment each other so well. I also ordered a few side dishes including braised home made tofu, and fresh noodles with the same vegetable combination on top.
One of the best things about Thunder Tree is that they had their own local Singapore farm where they grew all their own organic vegetables to serve. But unfortunately, I’m not sure of the full story, but they had to give up their land for their farm and will no longer be able to grow their own vegetables. Since that’s a part of their philosophy, this happens to be the last day of their service.
Thunder Tree: goo.gl/maps/T31Gv3wb2xtTmy1V8 (unfortunately this branch has had to close, but there are other places to eat thunder tea rice in Singapore, and hopefully this place might open again in the future).
And so that completes a delicious and wholesome plant based meal at a Singapore food court - one of the healthiest dishes you can eat - and incredibly delicious!
    Thank you for watching!

Usually we pour the green tea soup and mix it with the rice. That's where you get the full flavours blended together.

Thunder tea rice is actually rather common in Singapore. There are also many vegetarian Chinese (I recommend this place called R&J’s cozy corner) and Indian restaurants - the menu is quite wide, you’ll have to visit them yourself!

Thank you Mark Weins for featuring this store! This is a special special store that I have to let you know their story and background.
Their founder actually started the farm way back before the stall as he wanted to provide healthy pesticide free food to everyone. Through this stall, they take fresh ingredients grown on their farms and cook creative vegetarian dishes at an affordable price for the masses. The food is extremely delicious, healthy and fresh and even as a meat eater, I cannot state enough how good their food is.
This store is a gem and rarity in Singapore and it's such a pity that they were forced to closed by the Government just because the government wants to take back the land to have high productive farming instead of their organic farming which produces food at a lower scale.
There is zero farm to table concept in Singapore that is at an affordable price besides them and now there is truly zero. This is so so sad and such a sad look on the government. In the pursuit of productivity, we are killing all the unique flavors that shape our food culture.
We should truly learn to slow down and appreciate even the niche areas of our society to be truly multi-cultural.
Glad that you enjoyed their food and it is really delicious and flavorful! And one of the rare healthy hawker foods.

Same for the family-run quail (egg) farm in 2018 where they are forced to close because they don't find them productive enough, when they literally shoot their own foot earlier by reducing local quail egg supply because they want to import some from Malaysia as a way to 'diversify' food sources

i heard about this thunder tea rice since it was featured and rated 3 stars in one of the Food King videos a few years back. it's a pity to hear that the outlet closed down for good. actually, it's hard to find a local vegetable farm in singapore due to limited land. the government has put so much effort into having local farms by encouraging the residents to do community gardening, particularly in the hdb flats. nowadays, quite a number of young generations begin to set up hydroponic farms on top of the roof to source the locally-grown vegetables. you can even pay a visit to a community garden at the new Kampung Admiralty neighbourhood.

It’s up to you how much to add but you don’t drink it separately like a soup. 😝 And next time, if you forget the sambal, just go to the head of the queue and tell the aunty you want sambal. No need to queue again. People will understand and won’t mind that you do that!

My mother-in-law would prepare authentic Hakka Thunder Tea Rice with the tea thick with tea powder. Some stalls would give you a small bowl or diluted soup which isn't the real deal. You have to pour the tea into the mix to get that experience in flavours and immediately eat it, not soak until a soggy mess.

This Hakka dish originated from Hepo county of Meizhou city in eastern Guangzhou province...the original green coloured soup is not geen tea but rather a special tree leaf from Meizhou area pounded into powder form and made into a soup. Being migrants from the north and meat being scarce, Hakkas were resourceful to create this vegetable dish. Now it has carried forward worldwide where Hepo Hakkas are...

Hey dude, you gotta mix the green soup with the rice... The green soup is part of the whole dish, you have to pour the soup into the rice and give it a good mix, and the whole bowl of rice will be sweet.
