    The first 2 bridal shows we did got us 1 ultra cheap wedding and cost us a couple hundred dollars in gas, time, fees, etc. Bridal show #3 was free at a high class venue with 2 other DJ companies and we booked 10 (yes ten) full price weddings. Show #4 was at a vineyard, also free (other DJs actually turned it down) and we booked 4 full price weddings there outside on a miserable rainy day. As Rick said, it's all about how you approach it. The first 2 we did were a learning experience. As you can see, we learned from our mistakes. We also created great relationships with the venues and some great vendors. They continue to send referrals and I now have friends all over the industry. Great advice Rick--everything you said was 100% accurate to our experiences.

    I really like that you’re saying Wedding Show and not Bridal Show. I predict a steep decline in Wedding Show growth. Right now, (in Texas) we’re seeing TONS of free Open House events being hosted by area venues. If I’m a prospective couple...I’m not going to pay money for a Wedding Show if my top 3 venues are hosting a free one at a later date.

    Brides at bridal shows act like they are bird box lol they walk fast and try not to look when they pass you booth 😅

    Great video Web. I will definitely be sharing this with my team, lots of great nuggets to help us learn and grow.
    We do lots of Bridal Shows up here in Michigan, and I agree over the last 5 years the flow through seems to have lowered some. But I also think that the clientele comes to the shows armed with more information than ever before.
    I prefer to let my professionalism and respect for couples bring them to us, not chase them down the aisles.
    Sit back, smile, use the 10-4-2 rule of communication, and let them paint THEIR vision and dream for you, the. Let them know how you can bring that to life.

    Great video. I agree with you on most of your points. You are right about the show's decline. I did 2 years back-to-back 2017 & 2018. I booked 3 total. I have a paid subscription with Wedding Wire now and am booking constantly. That's where my advertising money is going now. Keep the videos coming. At least one of us enjoys them lol

    Console not required; The couple do not care about your gear! Some care how it all looks. Everyone is selling something. Everyone IS a sales person. You said you do not approach them. Why? You're there to share the value in what you have to offer. Get out and say hi, they will not bite. Have a conversation upfront, relax, be yourself. hav some fun...You are a FUN entertainer aren't you? Give them Good video Rick.

    You talk with everyone that walks up and sale yourself. You! Yourself is what will book! It takes 3 no's to reach 1 yes. That's good numbers. Anyone you blow off is potential money loss. Great video.

    Hey Rick, Great advice as always. I can 100% concur with your views about wedding/bridal shows. I'm UK based.
    In the past 3 years 2016, 2017 and 2018 i have noticed a gradual decline in attendance numbers at the shows resulting in a decline of quality leads. Despite bringing more services to the table, Slideshows, Video, and the console setup in front of our backdrop with up lighting...
    2018 was the poorest by far. The majority of the leads that were prepared to book i was unable to accept as i already had bookings (sourced from Facebook, Instagram, Bridebook and my own website)
    Being an independent DJ, Its no longer viable for me to outlay time and money in wedding fayres that provide diminishing returns and in the case of 2018's last wedding fayre... i couldn't take ANY of the bookings as i was already booked. After that wedding fayre i made the decision not to attend any wedding fayres in 2019.
    Guys... if you are multi-ops... As in you have multiple DJ;s then go for it... you have the capacity to take all the bookings and you should "go hard or go home" as they say. But for a sole DJ business like myself i feel the ROI (Return of investment) is diminishing at these shows.
    Do not under estimate social media, There is HUGE potential for a high number of leads but the quality of leads varies, You will need identify the quality leads quickly and focus on those.... and that comes down to combining your social media experience (Language, Manner, How the client asks questions etc) with your DJ experience (Knowing when the client is asking the right questions) to weed out the time wasters.
    Websites. VERY IMPORTANT... A professional, well written website with excellent SEO (search engine optimisation) will in time generate exceptional high quality leads. Almost every lead that comes direct from my website ends up booking. And don't forget that website MUST be optimized for computer AND Mobile.

    Hello, thank you for the tips. What is your recommendation for a DJ starting off with no video footage or pictures to show? I’m a club DJ transitioning into a mobile DJ. The show I’m attending is a smaller table top show at a venue.

    Do not do the pricing at the end. It makes them feel that you have something to hide. Drop some partial prices inbetween the conversation and make them a whole offer of everything at the end.

    Another great video Bro!!! I have never done a bridal show. You gave me a lot of good information to think about. I am a single opp company and I am not sure that bridal shows will be a benefit to me or not. I am more focused right now on my marketing, branding and gathering photos & videos so I can be more prepared to do a bridal show. Is that right way to think?

    Meh I'd rather take that stack and put it into an FB or IG campaign. You'd be in front of a lot more eye balls for the same money.

      But what's your roi on fb and instagram? It's different in different markets, but I know that if I do a wedding show I am going to 5x to 10x my investment no problem.
