It's amazing watching this video and seeing how my own prices evolved the way yours did. I started with a goal to DJ 10 events for free. Ironically, by the 3rd gig, I was going home with tips up to $300. I invested heavy in equipment 2 years ago and now, my starting rate is $1000. With uplights etc, I've charged up to $1800 for events. Thanks for sharing.
I just started DJ ing & bought all name brand stuff & love it! No I don't charge extra for it, but peace of mind & quality over competition definitely has me getting gigs I probably wouldn't have had prior. It's a sunk cost in business 101. You needed it, you got it, the money's gone, now on to persuing the gigs!
I agree! I have been a DJ since 1982 and been a wedding DJ Since 5 years ago. I totally agree on everything my friend. We usé NEXO equipment and as you mention is a good tool and sort of a Sales aid because does not contaminate visually, but cant rely on it to charge More. Clients dont care as much. Greetings from Oaxaca.
I used to charge 2k to 3500 a job. After a few years of doing free to low charge jobs no matter how big the event, I stopped doing private parties, only large events. I miss it. Such good energy!
It’s all about convenience for me. I’ll do a large prom for only $500 if I’m staying in town. 12+ moving heads, powered 15”s & 18”s pairs, 30+ up lights, and all the extras. But if I have to drive an hour away… speakers on a stick. Or honestly I just don’t take it. I enjoying providing Over the top production to small towns that can’t afford it.
Awesome video Barr! Thank you for actually sitting down and discussing your pricing scheme and reasoning behind it. I hate when other DJ's just clamp up about this topic or won't even talk about it. Very useful information and pretty close to pricing here in Texas. Thank you for making these videos and rock on!
Nice job explaining this! Been djng for about 12 years now and you pretty much explained my whole timeline from beginning to end. I'm getting$1000-$1300 for weddings in metro Detroit. No photo booth or "dancing on clouds nimbus" lol. But I do spend most of my time (5-6 nights a week) doing karaoke shows at local bars in my area. To me it's been a lot more satisfying and way less stressful than djng! ...DJ Larry D
My market is saturated with cut rate DJs. The crazy thing about it is that some of them are actually really good at what they do. It really comes down to skill, salesmanship, and referrals to be successful here. The only way to make real money is with multi-op, and then you’re faced with the worry of putting your reputation in somebody else’s hands. I have wanted to go full-time for a few years now but have been too chicken to make the move. Love your videos and love what you’re doing with your business! Thanks for all the advice over the years!
My most common package is $1,500 for a 5hr wedding with 2 setups (ceremony & reception) and basic lighting. Monograms, up-lighting and glow totem w/moving heads are extra. I sometimes throw one of those in to seal the deal.
Yep. That is exactly what I’m at. We’ve got a few folks charging $400 for 5 hours. If they try to get me down on price, it’s a wedding I don’t want anyway.
I include setup & teardown in the price & make sure to tell them that the price includes the setup & teardown. This makes them feel like they are getting more value for their money.
I’m in small town Wisconsin it’s been hard to start and get my name out there and grow with 15 companies in the area I charge a lower rate than most in the area and slowly been growing in the past 5 years videos from you and rick Webb have helped me so much and I can’t thank you guys enough
This was your best gig log of all times! You nailed it! East Texas isn’t a very wealthy area for DJs. I started out exactly like you...exactly! For weddings the average is between $400 and $600. I try to size up my clients before I give them a price. That works very well. I do not want them to shop. I usually indicate that if they choose me by the end of the week, their implied discount would be in effect. After that it’s a regular price. Thanks again.
@@djmannyleon9204 I know alot of my business comes from facebook. This was 100% as accurate as I've heard thus far. I'm in Arizona and I'm at around 1.2 - 1.5 K per wedding event to start. I'm not the cheapest but I'm definitely not the most expensive. You need to know your value and look at it like Barr says by setting a realistic goal. Nice VLOG Barr! Great Info!"
Knocked it out the park! We’re at $1570 and to be honest we need to raise it more. Rarely do we get people saying no but we are a multi op too so I want to make sure our team is busy as well.
I’ve slowly upped my wedding prices from $300-$500 to $700-$1000. Currently exploring add-ons to let clients build a package. Most don’t spring for them. I’m in Atlanta Metro and DJs undercut hard driving prices down. Like $150-$400.
Thank you for the info, it's been 30 years since I DJ'd. I used to be good a long time ago and I'm getting back into the flow. Once I retire from the job that I have, then I will be DJing full-time.
I just saw this, found it very interesting. Weddings in Mexico are a bit different, big wedding planners usually use a well established AV company for audio and lighting, and DJs are booked to only show up and play the music. A wedding in mexico can go for up to 10 hours straight!
KUDOS BARR for giving us inexperienced DJ"S this info no djs, NO ONE on you tube has dare to do a pricing video THANK YOU ! and I hope you are not using Linda's name to check prices on the competition LOL.
I'm gonna be getting into some weddings and random gigs this coming year so this info has been great. Awesome breakdown of how to price. Love the channel man appreciate all the great info you put out!!
Fantastic video man. I've spent the last seven+ years traveling all over the country doing everything from clubs and bars to birthdays and bbq's to weddings and tradeshows. I've literally uprooted and moved because the economy wasn't/stopped being friendly to my hustle or because the competition became like walking barefoot through a tarpit. One thing that REALLY factors in here is cost of living v.s. wage. For Example, if in the Bay Area in CA the minimum wage is $14.50/hr, I would charge more than if I were in say, southern MO where the minimum wage is below $10/hr. Researching the economy/cost of living v.s. wage is a great thing to take into consideration alongside shopping the competition. That's a powerhouse combo for determining your estimates.
such an insightful and educational content for any professionals...the module can be applied by any chartered accountants, doctors, lawyers, teachers, writers, singers, dancers, etc ...great content.
Excellent video! I agree whole heartedly with your comment about the equipment. I’ve always said that most Djs buy equipment more for them to boost their own ego than for any other reason, LOL! But seriously, I would add something else to your video, and it may go without saying, but professionalism is key to grow and charge more. You must sweat the details. It’s better to under promise and over deliver. Have a neat and clean set-up / install. Tape down cables. Dress for the occasion! It is better to be overdressed than underdressed (yes, I still wear a tux at weddings). Be polite and courteous to guests and fellow vendors. I assure you that the top earners in our field do all of this and much, much more in order to make the big bucks. I also agree on keeping your ego out of this business. You say you are the best dj / mixer / turntablist? Good for you! Now excuse me Mr. / Mrs. “World’s Greatist,” but some of us have a business to run. ;-)
Glad to hear your pricing scheme it makes more sense to price based on service. Most DJ's based their prices off the equipment they own. I would challenge them by stating if your local garage have the latest and greatest tools and equipment would want to be billed to pay the lease of those items or be billed for what it cost to fix your car.
Amazing information and transparency for all of us navigating the pricing waters! I have no doubt you bring the heat for your skills and set up, and it’s a great mile-marker for the rest of us to aim for. 🤘🏽
I live in South Jersey him a new/kind a have experienced DJ still learning a lot of things and I have a day job to make sure I don’t fall behind to take care of my family. Still trying to find a little niches to keep my sets running smooth and keep myself focused and stay practicing so I can get the next gig.
Your channel is amazing bro, im a startup DJ and u inspired me to make a clean a** setup. You also give sick MC tips that help me overcome the stress before going on mic. I use “avicii-levels” when I first talk on the mic like you 😂 respect bro keep it up
I enjoy your videos, I am an open format dj here in Orlando Florida. I have been DJing for over 20 years, everything from cruise ship dj to my now services as a mobile DJ. My rate is 125 an hour, but with some venues they have been increasing cost. Also depending on the packages the client chooses. But I know the market is very competitive and pricing seems to be an issue sometimes here. But with continued shows and the venues that our company does the pricing will be changing. Ty for all your videos enjoy every one of them
Very nice video. I'm here at Western North Carolina and I'm between $550 for minimum package designed for add on services. Then I have my minimum package with lights for $795 ceremony and reception DJ/MC only and I go all the way up to $1700 with photo booth, monogram projection, lights, slideshow confetti cannons, etc. Got very good business so far but pricing is something that always drives me crazy. We have DJs around here in the higher end but they are big companies and they suck a lot of business form the small DJs. Very difficult environment
I’m a retired wedding DJ. I agree with everything except the equipment. Equipment most definitely does matter as long as you have the skills to make it matter. If someone pays $1200 for a DJ and they show up with crappy equipment you probably won’t be booked by future brides at the show. Also the clients won’t look at you as the best choice. Remember, clients who pay $1200+ for a DJ also paid good money for the venue, flowers & decorations. If you show up with low grade equipment you are also downgrading the the appearance in the venue. Plus it also downgrades the production and you’re performance. I’m not going to say I don’t see it happening. My company changed into a Audio Visual company so I go to setup a projector and see a DJ at a nice venue with trashy cheap equipment and it takes the premium out of the venue. Equipment matters. When I was DJing my equipment without lighting and extras cost $25000. Now that’s not required, I wanted the best but it looked professional and sounded amazing. My presentation meant a lot to me mostly because I didn’t want to be the guy with the equipment that was the eyesore in the room.
This is absolutely the most useful dj tips video i've seen to this day. Not only you gave a lot of informations but you also explained everything in a very detailed way. 👌 Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just wished the price here in italy were as high as the ones in your area😂
My prices change based on so many things. Size of the wedding, distance, number of hours, day of the wedding, time of year, number of speakers, lights, uplights, sparklers, low fog, etc. If you're charging $1500+, how many events are you doing a year?
Great video my market area is pretty cheap around 1,000 bucks and lower but this video helped me understand the steps to take up make alil more and where I should be with experience
Want to say thank you for teaching me everything I need to know about the Dj Market. You made it make sense and were clear cut about the expectations. Appreciate the conversation of volume vs money.
This was a great video I wish my area would pay those prices I try to give my customers the best show I can give them regardless of the price I only charge 800.00 for a wedding reception
Ditto , I’m too in California . It’s hard to get an extra five bucks out of people . I did a huge wedding with two different setups and charged as if I was only doing one . I now will no longer charge one setup fee as more people in California especially are doing indoor and outdoor combo ceremonies . If they can’t pay the separate setup , kick rocks not worth my time .
@@djmannyleon9204 Not true. I spent 5 years between San Francisco and Oakland and easily pulled $1,500 without negotiating. Bare bones Bar and club gigs were $200 for 1-2hrs (depending on me). I don't know where you are, but the Bay showed me nothing but love in EVERY facet of throwing down.
Hi there. Great content! I'm a DJ myself (on the other side of the world). Funny, in the US it seems like the DJ is "the CEO" of an event business because he has all the gear to make an event happen, while where I'm from this role is reserved for MCs. They do the sales, they organise and prepare everything, so that the event sort of revolves around them and their approach. Usually in the mid-range segment I'm in we charge somewhere from $1000 to $1500 with my cut for my DJing and my gear (PA and lighting are on me, projectors, photobooths etc are on the MC) being only $200-$300. Definitely want to try out your approach here to see how the market responds.
Great video! It took me 2 years to figure out what you just explained. I wish you had this video out sooner, would have made my life so much easier. spent so much time and money in consultation. Now working on Advertising my services.
Great video Barr I am literally in your backyard so I agree with your numbers. As a single OP I do a variety of parties sweet 16, anniversary, corporate etc. So my prices vary from type of event. Weddings however I try to keep the price between 1200 to 1400 basic package with moving heads to cover reception and cocktail. I've been in the business for over 20 years but must brides just ask for prices and never what my experience can bring to their events Barr if you ever need help holla at your boy
Awesome video for a beginner like me. it's been only 1 year I've been djing and I didn't no if I was charging the write price thanks to your video I feel a lot better...thanks man....
Nice comment on the equipment. For many years I have been using Chinese up lighting. The customer only sees the lights on the wall and ceiling. Why should I buy new more costly lights that do the exact same thing? Give and take I charge a little less than the other guy who paid $300 per light when I have 20 lights for the same $300. Do you know how a room looks when I put one light every 6 feet around a room?
Man that's much 😂 in my country $400 is considered too much for a wedding! I am a party dj (sweet 16s, etc) and I charge $150 (with lights, fog 2 art 715s, wireless mic, wash fx etc). Everyone In my area charges 150 200 max for the best of the best dj
Pretty cool man keep them rates up Personally after 30+ years I have to be at 15 events a year and avg 6k each I rather do less and get paid more No more rat race for me
Great video brother... I'm in So.Cali and prices are up and down mainly cause there's a lot of DJs don't care and under charging just to get gigs ... But price is roughly the same as what you posted.... Keep up the good work.....
THIS IS GREAT! Thank you! However, a lot of this is based off the assumption that we provide dkec, speakers, light, and all kinds of equipment. Big house/techno DJs aren't providing any equipment, or add ons. They just show up and DJ and charge $5000. How can we get to that level / justify that? Mainly asking, because I'm a traveler and I never have equipment... also, I don't want gigs that need me to provide equipment. I've been DJing for 12 years. Skills are great: my audience is always obsessed with my sets, no matter the country.
Mr. Barr been following you for quite a while now; but this is the video that compelled me to comment; Thanks for the information, thanks for the transparency; I feel that most dj don’t like to disclose the prices and that in the end hurts all because we end up under pricing fear of the competition lower prices; Thanks for making me realize that I need to charge more... See you around
Where im from (Population of 170k...) There are approx. close to a Thousand known Mobil DJ's so Competition is Stiff. Likewise with the Topography...Most People would NOT even Pay $600 for a DJ. I tend to look @ it as an Hourly Pay Perspective. If im making $75 an Hr then in Per Hr wage standards thats DAMN Good! Most Peeps dont even make that working Corporate so that being said im satisfied with that Rate and there is always the Possibility of going Over your Contracted time where you can Charge again for the Overtime. I do this as a Sideline deal plus my Income as an Accountant and i couldnt argue with the Breadwinnng even doing @ least 4-5gigs a Month Steadily im ok. Rates will vary and that all depends on a good number of Factors, Variables, and Circumstances. Bottom-Line is after all Payment Plans are set and done...It is the LOVE for DJing is why i Ultimately do it. If all your gonna Worry about is Getting PAID then you have NO Business doing a Gig! Do it for the Love and Joy of it and NOT always for the Money! BTW...I normally am Hired for 5-6hrs a Gig and those hrs are a Norm from where im from. During Special Events such as 'Sporting Gigs ive gone as far as 10hrs and ofcourse the Pay Increases after the Minimum Time is Set. I am Called the "Fun-Size Kine" Mobil DJ Services, Hence the Brand is why i am most Popular in my Neck of the woods cos its what most People are looking for and can afford so they really Love that they are considered and accomodated and that is what drives my Passion is that @ the End of the day my Customers Satisfaction and Happiness is what makes DJ'ing worth the Stretch!👍🏽
That is why I am getting back in the game after 15 years - I love the experience and want my clients to have an awesome experience with quality pro sound
Great video ! Finally someone talks actual numbers. I’m from Slovakia, small country in the heart of europe (so we can not compare the markets) but for instance I couldn’t get 300€ (approx. 330$) for 7hour xmas staff party (for no more than 100 people) for well established supermarket chain. The person in charge of booking only cared about the price....300? Too much! Bye.. no negotiation nothing, sad huh ?
Have been a serious DJ for about 4 years right now. Now asking around 400 euros. At the end of 2020 would like to be around 750 euros. Living in the Netherlands
Thank you Barr, a lot of insight. On long island N. Y. competition is thick. As a solo venture not doing weddings I seem to be in your beginner column. Thanks again for all your great content! Dj Joe Moscato
Awesome video!!!! You never mentioned anything about a deposit. Do you take deposit to confirm your date? or what is the method you use to confirm the client's date?
DJ Phat Soul I Like The Way You Explained Yourself On Pricing. This Is My First Time Watching Your Gig Log Channel. I Think It's Great. Keep Doing What You're Doing Bro. Look Forward To The Next One.
great video. im in ireland doing nightclubs mainly and a few weddings over the year. for clubs max i make is 250/300. for weddings i created packages from 600 to 2k. the packages around 800/1k is the max i ever sold here. in ireland it's common to hire bands for the reception . they will charge around 2500 so its difficult to break the 1k limit. anything much more they think "oh i 'll get a band then.." you know... competition here is happy to bring 2 speakers and basic lighting for 500/600 euro (established ones). its tough here . anyway , great video again :)
It all depends on what state or area you are in that will pay that much. Many areas want even come close to a $1000 wedding or a $500 birthday party. Let's all keep in mind, there are soooo many DJs so customers can compete with rates and find the best DJ for the money they want to spend. Doesn't even matter how good you are these days unless you are a Top Celebrity DJ, people only going to pay what they can afford reguardless!
Good Fawkkknn Video!! No Hold BARRs on this one!! excellent disclosures! especially the equipment segment! Hate when DJs talk about their equipment, clients dont care! It's the experience!
I'm DJ from Poland living in UK. Started exactly year ago with Xmas parties and charge £100 for 5-6hours with just two speakers and gigbar. Middle of the year I started doing small weddings and Bday parties for £150. Gained experience and bought moving heads and this year Im charging £150-200 for Xmas parties, £400 for New Year Eve party. Maybe few more years and my prices will start at £1k... who knows.
Great video brother! Thanks for the transparency & awesome info! Have you done or could you Do a video on the different business structures you've seen in the industry.. How you have your business structured? How you get to work with the different multi ops in your area & around the country? Thanks for all you do for the industry! 🙌💪✊🎉
Great vid Barr! I feel good that I am operating just about exactly how you describe. I am starting-my 6th year in the wedding game and my pricing structure is very similar to yours. Not my full time gig but still doing approximately 20-30 weddings per year. Loving it is the key!

You say you are the best dj / mixer / turntablist? Good for you! Now excuse me Mr. / Mrs. “World’s Greatist,” but some of us have a business to run. ;-)
Very helpful and been djing for about 8 months now and charge sometimes anywhere from $0-$200 house parities and venues CA ORANGE COUNTRY AREA
You explain this better than any other video here bud. Great job. Keep the good videos bud
Amazing information and transparency for all of us navigating the pricing waters! I have no doubt you bring the heat for your skills and set up, and it’s a great mile-marker for the rest of us to aim for. 🤘🏽
Much needed Video for all Mobile DJ’s no matter what your current experience, pricing or services are. 👍🏼 I needed this.
I really appreciate this being a new going into the growing stage DJ in NY. I'm trying to to more of a mobile DJ than just a club DJ! Great insight
Ty for all your videos enjoy every one of them
Let's go..!!! DJ Barr always has the know how and great content, love this channel..!!!
2020 boutta see a new DJ after I graduate from Barr Entertainment University lol Let's gooo!!!
Great Video My Guy!! Really hit the nail on the head!
This is absolutely the most useful dj tips video i've seen to this day.
Not only you gave a lot of informations but you also explained everything in a very detailed way. 👌
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I just wished the price here in italy were as high as the ones in your area😂
I was literally just think about this then TH-cam gives me a notification and it was a video about pricing 🤗 thank you dj Barr
This is accurate in my opinion. Good video DJ Barr!
I see you droppib them gemz in this one! The comments about equipment, i totally agree with that!
Want to say thank you for teaching me everything I need to know about the Dj Market. You made it make sense and were clear cut about the expectations. Appreciate the conversation of volume vs money.
Yep! This is the best pricing video on TH-cam so far. Prices in Perth, Australia are similar. I’m cruising around $1200-2000 per event.
I am a new dj and your profile is a good base of what i charge and hope to charge in the future
Thanks Barr .
I agree 100 percent
I growing and hopefully will jack up these prices next year.
This is a very honest and insightful video. Lots to think about for sure. Continued success your way. Thank you for sharing.
I’m going to start dj:ing 😂 as a musician of 20 years this is insane.
Thanks for the Info....you hit the nail right on the head starting DJ here and I charge $350 here in Florida. Very good info. TY DJ Barr
Thanks for being honest BARR. Not everybody puts it all out there like you do.
Everyone In my area charges 150 200 max for the best of the best dj
daym I need to start charging more. I dj as a hobby. this video made me realize that I'm charging way below market.
Great video! Being REALISTIC about your ability is soooooo crucial!
Pretty cool man keep them rates up
Personally after 30+ years I have to be at 15 events a year and avg 6k each
I rather do less and get paid more
No more rat race for me
Thanks A lot for the valuable information Barr, Your the best to watch and wish you much success in the new coming year.
I charge between $100-150 an hour for house or clubs. Weddings $1000-1200 starting off. I live in Massachusetts
Great video brother... I'm in So.Cali and prices are up and down mainly cause there's a lot of DJs don't care and under charging just to get gigs ... But price is roughly the same as what you posted.... Keep up the good work.....
Thanks for this info it has shed light onto everything. Here in South Africa we getting between $180 and $500 for a wedding.
Mr. Barr been following you for quite a while now; but this is the video that compelled me to comment;
Thanks for the information, thanks for the transparency;
I feel that most dj don’t like to disclose the prices and that in the end hurts all because we end up under pricing fear of the competition lower prices;
Thanks for making me realize that I need to charge more...
See you around
Good Stuff! Charleston, SC also a hot spot for weddings where I'm looking to launch. 'Preciate cha bro!
Good stuff bro! As a beginner, This is very helpful. It’s a hobby for me, but I still wanna do things professionally whenever its time to do my thing!
Awesome video man! I believe everything you said is accurate and spot on! Couldn't agree more! Keep up the good work and love your channel!
Excellent video about pricing!.
Love your transparency and honesty on how much do you charge for event.
Thank you for the content, very helpful.
🔥🎧😎🎧🔥
Have been a serious DJ for about 4 years right now. Now asking around 400 euros. At the end of 2020 would like to be around 750 euros. Living in the Netherlands
Like you said a lot has to do with Location. And maybe even States Minimum wage. Something to consider
Love how you get people hooked with the thumbnail! Doing it for the views!
Tremendously helpful video! Thank you so much DJ Barr!! ❤🙏
I needed to see this. I work for a company, so I wanted to see my worth as a growing DJ
When you say company you mean agency?
Maybe few more years and my prices will start at £1k... who knows.
Once again another great and honest video by DJ Barr!!! Keep up the good work!!
You said equipment doesn't matter, that is a great point..!!! Great Video .. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
One of the best videos by far.
You hit the nail in the head
I wish everyone can see this
DjJoey Pina joey you need to put up some more videos lol ... like your equipment comparisons videos
johnny mata lol I’m trying. No time
Great video brother!
