So when I started playing Witcher 3 I payed no attention to Gwent but one I played I can't tell you how fast I didn't give a fuck about the open world mini game lol
I’m on my first playthrough. I have ignored Gwent for now because the story has me ravenous to see it so I’m impatient. Now that I have seen this video, I’m definitely going to play Gwent. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this video 😸 Proper Bird indeed...🥴
Todd Dallinger I think it is random. If you really want him I guess you could paly against someone who has the card in his deck. Save your game before the gwent game starts and reload if you don't get him. there are also some tutorials on how to get the card. I still don't have Gerlat in my deck and the Spy that has only 1 Attack Point.
I think I will never stop loving this gem. Just finished all the main stories again yesterday, maybe I'll bother with a full gwent collection for the first time before starting a new game.
Here is a final tip to those who play trading card games in general: Always shorten your deck to as low as allowed. This allows you to have a greater chance of getting what you need whenever you draw.
This is better for Northern Realms or Nilfgaardian. For Scoi'atel and Monsters, because of their muster cards, it's sometimes better to have a bigger deck to avoid bleeding your own hand if you end up having multiple muster cards of the same type in your hand at a time.
@The Mine But Monster decks are so fun with them muster cards left and right :( Imo, Scoi'tael is the worst deck. Nilfgaard is the second worst (spies are way too strong, ability too situational, nothing that impressive or unique about Nilfgaard specific cards), Monster is my favorite but inarguably Northern Realms is the best deck, so Monster is second. The thing with Monster deck is, just bring Decoys and turn their Spies against them, and bring 3 Clear Weathers so you have a high chance of rolling one of them at least (or just rely on drawing hero cards). I've had the most fun with the Monster deck.
Master Blaster Lol a maxed out Nilfgaard is straight up broken. If you have all the hero cards, spies and full impera brigade row, you’ll win. Make sure to keep it a 22 cards. You’ll almost always pull one spy, which in turn draws all the other spies. Got a high score of 274 with that one. It’s more reliable than monsters and social tael imo.
@@masterblaster2678 The spies for the nilfgaard deck are much more balanced than northern realms, but they are still extremely broken, especially when decoys are being used. Most late game players use 3 decoys in their deck to try and discourage the use of spies, but by using decoys of your own in conjunction with personal spies, you can draw your entire deck without committing anytime important to the board. Also, spies and decoys in this game buy you turns which can easily break an opponent's win condition if they don't have the same amount of cards in hand as you do. Just because you give an enemy 21 (if I remember correctly) power doesn't mean you don't have much more in hand
I must object with the Northern Realms leader/ Foltest the Siegemaster I found was the strongest of them all it's a free buff to all siege cards and, if you're like me and have a shit ton of siege cards, is invaluable in many games
I disagree I found the clear skies leader ability to be easily the strongest. You don't need the siege master ability as you should be running 2-3 commanders horns anyway. Being able to counter your opponents weather whenever you need without clogging your hand with useless extra cards is much more valuable. Though my end game deck only had the catapults + medic as siege units.
Gwent is a hell of a lot of fun, but if you don't have enough Spies, Medics, and Decoys it's pretty tough to win. Or maybe I'm just a dum dum. EDIT: Just for reference, I didn't play at all during my first play through of the game, so I hardly have any decent cards. BibleThump.
I would argue medics and decoys are unnecessary, at least to the excess you need spies. To me the thing that has bailed me out has been power amplifier cards such commander horn and leader abilities.
When I first started W3 I was so irritated with Gwent and felt so stupid for not being able to grasp the rules. When I finally buckled down and got into it I found myself getting wayyyyy too distracted by it. Seriously, I was seeking out every in keep, merchant, etc just to play and win more cards. I am still learning cool strategies to this day and I honestly think W3 wouldn't have been the same without it now. Very well implemented
It's funny the hardest part of the game is finding playing cards so you can gradually beat people in a mini game. Because the opposing decks are either trash - or totally full of special ability units.
I'm downloading this game right now and I've been watching a bunch of Gwent tutorials because I've realized the importance of it in the game. I play Magic the Gathering and it's very similar so I understand how to play but I must say you have had the best tutorial by far. Props.
Just going through my first playthrough I'm 70 hrs in and still a way to go to travel to skellige. Level 20 now but I'm so immersed in this game time doesn't even matter 😊 steady as she goes.
This is by FAR the best Witcher 3 Gwent tutorial I have seen on TH-cam. Was looking for some clarification on stuff for when I try to play with friends using my IRL cards and this is immaculated scripted, structured, voiced & edited. Please have my +1 as it was the kind of video I was sorely searching TH-cam for.
Best witcher 3 gwent video anywhere and that's saying something since I've played for a good long while and never did understand the game on the 1st play through hell even second play through I won maybe 2 or 3 games total
Northern realms deck with calling horn and foltest as your leader card with a bunch of siege weapons. Never lose on hard. Pass the first round or use your spy card then pass, then use other cards to win the second round, (opponent will probably pass this round so don't use your best cards yet) then for the final round use all your siege cards with foltest and heroes. Literally my strategy every game
Thumbs UP!!! I've been getting into the gwent game in my past 25 hours of play and got a decent handle on it, but this helped me tremendously. Thanks, this is my go to tutorial.
This is a great guide and I only really watched it to see what you said about it :) I would probably add that once you have enough cards to do it, take out the small cards with no abilities on them so you have more chance of drawing the better cards. I only ever lost a couple of games using northern realms and the lose first round strategy (most of the time the game passes second round). I used Foltest the Siege Master hero card and took out all the non siege unit from my deck except for spies, the blue stripes, the reavers, the dragon, and heroes ofc. I also only used 2 decoys, 1 scorch (often had it unused because my cards were better), 2 commanders horns and dandelion and then Gaunter (although the ranged not pulling the siege one from deck sucks) and Ogird when i got Heart of Stone.
I felt like that to at first not knowing how to play Gwent, but then I realized I was playing with a poor deck. So I set out to improve my card options and once I found more powerful cards I started to have better luck. But it dosent stop there because then you have to sort the deck to play your best cards and not use the lesser ones. The chances of winning increases greatly, but also that even if your opponent has a better deck you still can beat him. As a rule I play my opponint at lest 3 times to win his card from him. Increasing my chances of winning his card to beater my deck. Hope this helps mate:)
PreserveBigCats i lose every single game of gwent. when i first started playing witcher 3 even i cant win from shitty vendors. now i'm level 12 i'm still collecting gwent cards to get a better collection first then i will come back to gwent to kick their ass 😂
Just do the gwent quests, win from the merchants and buy cards from them and keep your deck as close to 22 cards with the best cards in it and you'll at least have a decent NR deck.
I hated it from 2015 to 2018, but I recently got good this week specifically, and it became addictive! You need more cards! Before you get enough spies and decoys and scorch cards, it’s simply luck, but with those addition, you can employ actual tactics.
Only decent guide on youtube. I started winning by using the clear weather foltest leader and throwing all weather cards out of my deck. The best fraction to use weather cards against is the monster deck, but I usually bait them into playing everything they got with spies. This is on death march settings, not sure if it works the same on all difficulties. Thanks for the guide. Let me sub you.
B L Nilfgaard and North are the best, followed by Skellige. Scoiatel has no spies, no tight bonds, and it’s only advantage is being able to somtimes avoid weather.
This is very well scripted, thought out and superbly presented tutorial. After watching this, I rarely loose a game and even developed a slight addiction. :)
16:19 you can also use it to lower the total combat score of units with tight bond by taking one off the board, if you are expecting a scorch this can prevent the opponent from using it if it means they now have the strongest unit.
Thank you so much, that was hands down the most insightful guide to Gwent I have found. I think the witcher is the best game ever made and can't wait to get to new game plus, not being any good at Gwent really let me down on my first run through, God bless you mysterious beautiful stranger!! 😁
Blood and Wine adds the Skellige deck, which contains the most OP card of all: Cerys. Cerys is a hero card that has 10 power and has a muster ability that summons all shield maidens, which have 4 power each and the tight bond ability. If you have all three shield maidens(or more, but I haven't found more) in your deck and use Cerys, you increase your total power by 46(Cerys = 10, shield maidens = 3 * (4 * 3)), which is crazy and can often singlehandedly win you a round.
She is wrong, there are 5 decks if you reach the toussant go to the cokatice inn and look at the notice board. A new faction called skellige BTW pay attention….
I just finished the main game story with both 2 DLC main quests and still I have no idea how to win in Gwent .! Thanks, this guide well be more than helpful with The gwent side quest I haven’t finished yet lol .!!
Hey there, thanx a lot for your effort, wish i found your video earlier, hadda slog to understand HOW TO PLAY.But its better now and thanx for da card tips, will definetely come in handy.Thanx again..Peace.
They actually pronounce it "an seed" one time in the games, during the side adventure "The price of neutrality". The one elf there uses that pronunciation. So at that point I was a bit confused on what to use but I just decided on the most used one at that point.
I enjoy the in-game Gwent mechanics, was having fun with the deck I got and the few cards I've been getting, but then I got rapped by the fisherman who uses almost all ATK 10 cards, and got demoralized like when you play a card game in real life just to find out your beloved deck is trash when playing against 200+ dollar worth decks T_T
Nilfgaard decks are powerful but only if you get lucky and draw most of your spies, heroes, and healers. If you are unlucky, you're screwed unless your opponent uses spies that you can take away with decoys to draw more and pray your good cards get drawn. Northern Realms is much more forgiving.
Other guides basically say to throw the first round on purpose. You have to win 2 of 3, and letting the opponent win the first round means you save your cards for winning the next two. Otherwise you may tap out your strength early with a 1/1 split and be vulnerable in Round 3.
Nah, play out your spies round one because your opponent will still play cards anyway. And if you eventually get frost + vill you take round 1 in 2 cards anyway. :p
No love for Foltest: Siege Master? That’s sad. That’s way better than the scorch ability imo. You can resurrect scorched cards, it’s not easy to overcome a point value of over 150 though.
Allso i wanna mention that clearing weather foltest is actually pretty good because it boosts deck consistency(not only by granting weather clear on demand but allso by thinning the deck as you don't need to run clears)
A year later, I know lol. But there has been a little uptick in this game lately since it went on sale for PS4. Anyway they are out there. A quick google search will find they on ebay and etsy. Also if you have the time, there are printable pdf's where you can make your own cards.
Great video! I must admit I wasn't a fan of Gwent when I first started this game because I waited too long to get into it and by the time I did my deck sucked. I lost game after game. I started winning games and better cards but I'm still on a quest to make my Northern Realms deck even better. If anyone can answer, I have some questions:Where can I find more Scorch cards? I have one, but I'd love to have at least 3.Where can I find more spy cards? I have 3 in my deck (Dikstra, 0 neutral card, and I think someone with 5 strength). I'd love to have way more spies if possible. What is the ideal deck size for Northern Realms? I've been playing with the smallest deck count I can (25 cards). I don't even play weather cards; just clear weather. Where can I find decoys? I'd love to be able to reuse spies or abuse the medic summoning another medic play. Where can I find the catapults with 8 strength? I only have one and I can't remember how I came across it. Where can I find more medics? I only have the 5 strength medic and Yennefer. I'd love to have at least one more. Finally, where can I find the best Monster and Nilfgard cards?
TBH most of the time you get those cards by playing merchants and buying cards from them, and getting into the tournaments during side quests will also net you some good cards and doing the Gwent quest will net you some VERY good cards. Zoltan has a side quest which you SHOULD do and at end you can get 3 Hero cards.
Personally I prefer the Nilfgaard Fraction. Only if my opponent plays the Monster Fraction I play it too. I still know who uses them so I can adjust my style of playing.
I have to admit, I had no idea what the hell I was doing, and getting my ass kicked by the lowliest shopkeepers... up until I figured out the rules and then collecting better cards.. Now I have to say I have 4 massive Gwent decks. Beat everyone in Witcher 3 so far.. sometimes having to play the same person twice.. but still.. its a lot of fun now.
I was watching this until i found a mod called "No time for gwent", where u basically enter the game, press N and win, and that's exactly what i did, i got my xp for the missions and gtfo
It's actually pretty rewarding once you make a deck that suits your playstyle and then you become pretty much unstoppable i lose maybe 1/50 games just from the rare event of an abysmal initial card draw
@@waynejacobs5092 That's what Spies are for. 3 Decoy is also basically a staple. Some leaders also have abilities that give you a draw/add a card to your hand.
To paraphrase a review I saw for TW3 on steam "the witcher 3 is a great card game with a nice open world minigame"
That would actually be valid in majority of any other games :)

Hey there, thanx a lot for your effort, wish i found your video earlier, hadda slog to understand HOW TO PLAY.But its better now and thanx for da card tips, will definetely come in handy.Thanx again..Peace.
Just one minor thing: in the English version, Aen Seidhe is for some reason pronounced "an shade", but in the original it's pronounced "an seed"
I like Nilfgaard Empire the most because of the spies and the high points cards. But i like Nothern Realms too.
I only started playing Witcher 3 and Gwent, every NPC has at least 3 spies and basically shotguns through them all.
Everything explained made absolute sense, until the 10th minute.
This was a fantastic and thorough guide. Thank you. Earned a like
Thank you for this helpful guide 😎❤
So is it me or did she fail to mention how to get more spies?
Completely honest I'm fucking terrible at Gwent. Shits fucking harder than Sudoku
You must not have a good deck i presume ?
Probably. I don't know what a good deck is to begin with tho. I have yet to beat a single person on the easiest difficulty
A good deck would be 22 cards with your best cards in them.
Skillege rules with final set🔥
Other guides basically say to throw the first round on purpose. You have to win 2 of 3, and letting the opponent win the first round means you save your cards for winning the next two. Otherwise you may tap out your strength early with a 1/1 split and be vulnerable in Round 3.
Nah, play out your spies round one because your opponent will still play cards anyway. And if you eventually get frost + vill you take round 1 in 2 cards anyway. :p
I know I’m late but this was very helpful and very informative video thx now I feel like I’m the king of games
Greetings from the future. I just started playing and this helped a lot. Also, try to stay in 2016... otherwise you're in for a rocky ride.
No love for Foltest: Siege Master? That’s sad. That’s way better than the scorch ability imo. You can resurrect scorched cards, it’s not easy to overcome a point value of over 150 though.
Did I miss the part where you tell us how to get more spies?
😄
Great video tho...
Whenever dealing with monster decks, use the biting frost against them.
I knew all those thing before i watched but i just wanted to see if there's some kind of strategy that i didn't think about by myself. I love gwent.
Allso i wanna mention that clearing weather foltest is actually pretty good because it boosts deck consistency(not only by granting weather clear on demand but allso by thinning the deck as you don't need to run clears)
Wow this is so well explained
Quest: play gwent with henchmen
*1 hour and 1000 crowns later*
*Murders everyone in room*
Very helpful, thank you. Still don’t understand the cow card.
you forgot to include that decoys can also stall your turn
49 seconds into the video and the winds are howling
Is there a physical set of Gwent cards for sale? I’d love to have them. Gwent anyone?
A year later, I know lol. But there has been a little uptick in this game lately since it went on sale for PS4. Anyway they are out there. A quick google search will find they on ebay and etsy. Also if you have the time, there are printable pdf's where you can make your own cards.
Omg, i Love you so much right now. I CANS GWENT NOW!
Excellent, thank you!
Stumbled upon your channel the other day and you earned yourself another sub! Keep up the great work, I'm really enjoying your content :)
if you have hero cards victory is assured add spy cards and decoys equal more power
Wow best guide ever
Ha! A witcher that plays monsters. How ironic
I think I did all of those. Where can I find gwent tournaments?
There's one in Novigrad itself and one in the Triss side quest A matter of life and death i think.
You didn't mention Olaf the Bear. He is a normal card with a strength of 12.
So after doing research I can conclude that Im not bad just not patient enough to play until I get lucky.
Great guide
Personally I prefer the Nilfgaard Fraction. Only if my opponent plays the Monster Fraction I play it too. I still know who uses them so I can adjust my style of playing.
I have to admit, I had no idea what the hell I was doing, and getting my ass kicked by the lowliest shopkeepers... up until I figured out the rules and then collecting better cards.. Now I have to say I have 4 massive Gwent decks. Beat everyone in Witcher 3 so far.. sometimes having to play the same person twice.. but still.. its a lot of fun now.
Superb video !!!!
This is really useful... but... MY GOD! It just won't end 😭
Except when it did
Very good presentation
I’d say northern realm is the best set. I feel it gives you the most freedom
@@Jim90117 how do you even draw cards? You literally just choose the cards you start with. I've never been able to draw any cards
@@waynejacobs5092 That's what Spies are for. 3 Decoy is also basically a staple. Some leaders also have abilities that give you a draw/add a card to your hand.
Let the journey of becoming Gwent addicted... Begin!
