- Thursday 18th August 2016, a beautiful autumnal evening saw me visit Edinburgh Castle to catch the fireworks at the end of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo performance, the cast coming down the Royal Mile and the March Back to Barracks - well technically the 20 or so busses waiting in Johnston Terrace!

The British regimental system has bred pride and honour and a loyalty to your fellow soldiers within that regiment. Your regiment is unique in its name and history. My great grandfather was in the Gordon highlanders, and a fine man an warrior.
this brings me to tears every time I watch it. reminds me of my grandfather. Scottish through and through.
He was born in Edinburgh and always played this song. Thanks for the memories.

Just something so powerful and moving seeing this. I wish we had something like this in America.
I take your point. And it's obvious that although your country is 'the melting pot' , the 'old' countries still retain 'stuff' ie certain traditions. But, you know, USA is a most amazing country and totally iconic and we in Europe desire to go to your country to see it etc too and you have already some great traditions eg Arlington grave of the unknown warrior protected 24 hrs a day

To get a proper perspective on what's happening not just in the U.S. but all over the West, look at the photographs of the graffiti painted all over the Vietnam Memorial, a byproduct of our last "peaceful" election. Check out the films posted on youtube recently of scumbag millennials jeering at and attempting to accost men of the Queens Guard in London. In years past you may have had good reason to envy the U.S. You may not want to anymore.
57beachboy I live in the UK, and there is widespread respect for the military. You're thinking of tourists who think they are actors and not active service members.
When people are too loud at the Tomb of the Unknown, the guard will stop and bellow in a command voice "Quiet!! Have respect!!"

It is not one of the best marching tunes. It is the BEST marching tune. It has no rival. One of the best moments of my life was visiting Edinburgh. Once out of the Waverley, The Scots monument was a sight to behold. A visit to the Castle, Edinburgh military Tattoo. Definition of Bliss.

Used to listen to Citadel bagpipers playing this when I was a grad student at The Citadel in Charleston. SC.
I got Citadel at the tattoo a few years ago
Just before hitting the play button that was the only tune I was expecting to listen.... The land of Sir William Wallace 💪
We did a parade once with a band, and we still managed to fuck it all up. Guys bear walking, out of step, the whole cock up. We spent the next day on the square with the RSM, BSM and the TSMs screaming, "you had fucking drums and look what you did!"
