I as european personally honestly love this Megadrive brazil relationship, i always found it very dumb that beloved consoles need to have those super strict fixed lifecycles. I would love it if we would have some retro consoles in Europe too that just keep on getting released in new versions with some new current games getting developed for example how cool would it be to still have new Ps1models or new SNES around !!
The obvious reason would be that it's just not commercially viable at a certain point of time, after new technologies have taken over. I understand that it has a huge nostalgic meaning, but at least we also have some retro indie titles on the modern consoles and on PC today like Sonic Mania, Blazing Chrome etc.
I m from India. From my childhood days from 2003 till 2012 I never knew about the existence of Sega mega drive and 16 bit console. Everybody knows here only nes because 16 bit never existed here. Brazil is so lucky to had Sega Mega Drive although gaming is expensive in both Brazil and India compared to other parts of the world both have same story but Brazil is little bit ahead of us.
You forgot to say that many of these Mega Drive models from the 2000s and 2010s didn't have a cartridge slot, and many of them were just an emulation machine, and the Mega Drive games were terribly emulated, I remember people complaining how Sonic was very slow in the Mega Drive 4 model.
Your try to say "Show do Milhão" is priceless! Actually, the pronunciation is similar to "million". Maybe you should try "milliown". Anyways... Great episode!
I had a SNES, my best friend had a Sega Genesis. He refused to let me see his Streets of Rage because he was convinced I would love it so much that I would regret buying my SNES.
It is worth mentioning that the "new" mega drive released from TecToy tries to replicate the original hardware as close as possible and don't rely on emulation anymore compared to the latest versions of MD3 and MD4 this one is more targeted for nostalgic and retro collectors. Also worth mentioning that the Guitar Idol Mega drive has an built in chip for the musics so you can play with real songs and not the regular sound that would come from the Mega drive's sound chip.
Even though, this version of the original MD does have a SD card slot with preinstaled games and the possibility of adding more ROMs and it is also not compatible with both 32X and Sega CD.
Does Brazil have access to other consoles and like these mega drives are just targeting the budget audience? I'm just curious about how Sega did so well there.
Just a little correction, the Mega Drive II starts in Brazil with Sonic 1, not Sonic 2, for sure, when Sonic 2 was launched, TecToy swap to Sonic 2 as a game bundle. So many memories on my birthday on 93' september, My Mega Drive II with Sonic 1 cartridge bundled. Nice video, a joy to watch.

I think it's worth mentioning that even though these consoles keep coming, they are indeed obscure oddities even here in Brazil. Evidently there must be some market for them but they don't come even close to representing any sort of competition for any other current gen systems, and this has been the case since the days of the Playstation. As a side note, I got an SNES as a kid and I didn't have much contact with the Mega Drive until much later. Those Tec Toy/Sega consoles (Master System and Mega Drive) were very popular around here but they weren't as ubiquous as people seem to believe.

Great video, although I will point out the Show Milhao was officially licensed from the TV show - and there was an online service allowing the Mega Drive players to play along with the TV show interactively. New subscriber here! I was always a snes gamer growing up, but all my cousins had mega drive’s. My sister had the Md vr 2, and always remember playing andre Agassi tennis on it lol
I remember I was young and parents put the mega drive under the Christmas tree that night I woke up and opened it had a sneak look and wrapped it back horribly lol my parents next morning were laughing at me
Streets of Rage and Sonic the Hedgehog... who would've thought that 30 years later, we would be playing Streets of Rage 4 and Sonic Mania. Nostalgia really sells.
I thought that looked like a Techtoy system lol.. for the uninitiated there’s crazy new stuff still coming on these systems like “ports” of modern AAA games in 16 bit.. it’s ridiculous and amazing! Great content! Thanks
I had a megadrive 1 as a youngsters and was lucky enough to have a snes also . I bought megadrive 2 about 3 years ago and the sound, sounded off pitch so I did quick research sesh and I found out this cheaped out on inferior sound processing chips . Shudder to think what some of these sound like. Excellent work as always lady decade 👏🏼 thanks for the excellent content its awesome
I love retro gaming and thought I was fairly well informed but nearly every one of your videos expertly covers and introduces me to something I had absolutely no idea existed. Your content is awesome, keep up the great work 👍🏻
Excellent video about Tec Toy's Mega Drives! After the 2017 version, I decided to buy a Mega Drive in 2019 to remember the games I played in my teenage years in the 1990s. But I ended up buying an American Mega Drive, a Genesis, because of the sound quality and the possibility of using RGB of this model are superior to the Mega Drive Tec Toy of 2017. Warm regards from Sao Paulo, Brazil!
I'm brazillian and I have NEVER seen another models of the Mega Drive besides MD III, The original one and this infamous of the MD IV. That's absolute nuts. Great video!
Hi, Lady Decade! I liked your channel and you gained another subscriber, this time from Brazil. Show do Milhão wasn‘t a simple knock off from Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, it was indeed inspired by the British show but has its own rules and presentation. A curiosity from Tec Toy is that they constantly changed their product names. Master System is a great example: the first batch that came with Super Hang-On in the memory was simply "Master System", but the next, bundled with Alex Kidd was renamed to Master System II. So what the world knew as the Master System II was called here as Master System III. It was a marketing decision that even people at Tec Toy today understand why was made, lol. Another thing to address is that despite Mega Drive and Master System was selling well in the Brazilian market, Saturn and Dreamcast sold better than in the rest of the world here. But unfortunately, they couldn't compete with PlayStation, which was available at the importing stores and in the grey market for affordable prices compared to Sega's new systems. The easiness to pirate PlayStation games ironically helped Sony to establish its gaming empire in my country as well. About the 8 bit era, there's something that even Brazilian TH-camrs forget to mention: while Master System sold very well in Brazil compared to other countries, it's hard to tell if they "won" this war because pirated Nintendo games and NES clones have been flourished at every corner of this country and they were affordable compared to the official Sega Master System. For example, I bought my first Master System only when I was already a grown-up man, in 2014, to put it in my collection, but when I was a kid I had not one NES clone, but three! Each of them was a present from a different relative, who didn't know about video games but knew what was cheap. But a kid with a Master System? I knew only one and he was like the "rich boy" from the school. EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention! That last Mega Drive which came with an Altered Beast cartridge was an idea backed by fans. It's actually pretty nice and was made at the age of mini retro consoles, like the NES Mini. It had even some firmware updates to improve its performance, and it can run original games through the cartridge port or ROM files from an SD card. The only flaw is that they promised an HDMI port, but the final version came only with AV output, mainly to cut costs. Tec Toy wasn't financially healthy at that time and it was like a farewell for the fans, the company was sold shortly after the release of this Mega Drive and now they have a completely different board of directors and focuses on other products, hence why this console will likely be not sold anymore. It was the end of an era and I think it could be a good subject for another video. Also, the portable Mega Drive is the exact same as the one sold by AT Mega. Same Chinese factory, same form factor, same boards, same screen, same everything... :P
In Brazil, TecToy was the company that kept Genesis/Mega Drive alive, even though it didn't have such up-to-date hardware, it still helped to keep the retro fashion and old game collections. In the same country had already arrived the PS2, Nintendo Wii, PS3 and other consoles not officially. Officially today there is only the Sega Mega Drive line by TecToy, PS2/PS3/PS4 by Sony and XBOX 360/XBOX ONE by Microsoft in Brazil. Besides for the retro market there are companies like RetroX and Games Care that do a great job for those who like old consoles like me (my megadrive is 2017).
I feel like most North American gamers that care about this sort of thing really only know North America with some smattering of knowledge on the Japanese or UK gaming scenes' history among a few nerds
I as european personally honestly love this Megadrive brazil relationship i always found it very dumb that beloved consoles need to have those super strict fixed lifecycles. I would love it if we would have some retro consoles in Europe too that just keep on getting released in new versions with some new games developed for example how cool would it be to still have new Ps1models or new SNES around !!
There is a recurrent legend here in Brazil, that one day, TecToy will release new versions Saturn and Dreamcast. But last month they released the "new" Atari Flashback X. They are also selling some 8bitDo controller, low end smartphones, speakers and computer peripherals (claimed as gamer, because rgb leds).
Just found your channel, absolutely fantastic! Love your clear enthusiasm for the medium and can only salute your research and detailed content. Looking forward to more..... Bravo Lady Decade!!
Fascinating stuff. I knew the Master System was still hugely popular in that part of the world but didn't know the same was true of the Megadrive. A really well researched, well produced video. Keep going Lady Decade. You'll be hitting 100k subs before you know it!
Love the channel, Lady Decade. I love channels that approach gaming history, like this... Game Sack, Classic Gaming Quarterly, Gaming Historian, Console Wars, Did You Know Gaming?, Etc. I must say, it would be awesome if you could do some in depth reviews on games, in a similar style, fitting for the channel... Something like how Nitro Rad does game reviews. He does it perfectly, and I think that would be something that would be an awesome addition to your channel.
4:58 that's exactly the box I got in 94 for Christmas (except for the Sega CD part I think) :') the box is gone but I still have the console and cartridges working.
You got me on that! What a nice video about Mega Drive here in my country. My brother bought one of the most recents Mega Drives (2017) and it's interesting to say the brazilian community worked to make it better than Tectoy released. You could do a video only about that, it's interesting how some people here made to improve Tectoy's last system. Nice work Lady!
For the little it costs to manufacture a 90s technology based console these days, I wonder why they just don't launch a system with a built-in CD-drive that would also play Mega CD and 32X games. Even if Mega CD and 32X games have not been released in South America, it's the opportunity to do so.
@Gilson Marcondes Ladeira But with Sega being that popular in Brazil, I assume it is still worth releasing a Megadrive / Mega CD / 32X bundle. As I said before, that's old technology, it can't cost a lot. It would enable the release of far more games that didn't manage to sell well in the late '90s for the pleasure of players.
There was an unconfirmed rumour, that the Mega Drive 3 George Foreman Grill, aka "new" Mega Drive III, was in fact a "Sun Java Machine", running a poor port of EA games and the games at a "custom" version of PicoDrive, but due the lack of reverse engineering and no datasheet available for the ICs, was almost impossible to know if it's true or not, since it's pretty clear that some games like NFS Carbon had more than 64 colors on screen and run at a smooth rate, that won't be that easy to do with the M68K.
As a brazilian kid who lived in the 90's I can say Tectoy was extremely important for the growing up of the video games market here, but as show in the video, they made the same thing many many times, and problably that's their biggest fault. In the 90's they made games thats only sold here in brazil, like Turma da Mônica no Castelo do Dragão (It's basically a Wonderboy romhack with sprites of a brazilian comics character called Mônica, created by Mauricio de Sousa), they also made a port of Duke Nukem 3D for the Mega Drive and a port of Street Fighter II for the Sega Master System. Today they sell phones, bluetooth speakers, the Mega Drive 2017 show in the video, some Atari Flashback consoles licensed by ATGames and some licensed 8BitDo controllers. Today they are just a shadow of they was in the past, but is a brand that will be always loved by the gamers in Brazil
6:19 Okay.. I speak English and I know a spot of Spanish but for some reason I can translate this Portuguese sentence. "Which of these groups started they're career in Seattle?" I think the answer is Soundgarden btw.
Okay, this is my first time commenting on this channel. But, HOLY S***. I've been watching for a couple weeks and it is absolutely mind boggling how many systems you have highlighted that I have no idea about. I grew up in the 90's and the only thing we had was zines and word of mouth. You've now confirmed the existence of at least 3 rumored systems that I thought were just childhood imagination.
Funny you said about the Brazilian market as the Dreamcast survived for quite some time in Brazil and in some parts of Asia as a VCD player package as you could buy spares for DC from a place in Brazil.
Gun Star Hero's and Castlevania:Bloodlines were two awesome games on the Genesis. Castle of Illusion was really great as well, especially since it was one of the first Genesis games to come out in the US.
Look for "Mônica no castelo do dragão", "As férias frustradas do Pica pau" e Chapolim x Dracula" this games is from Brazil Tectoy exclusives in the Sega Master System.
Lady D, could you do a playlist/review of popular Arcade games and their history? For example T2:The arcade game ( and the following modern Terminator arcade games), Midway games and Neo Geo, House of the Dead games and Arcades back then vs. now etc.? Also, maybe one day you could do a retro hunt in Akihabara or something :)
Nuts to think the master system that has been in my cupboard for the last like 20 years has had new releases and probably new fans in Brazil... would be wild if it was the same with other classic hardware. Thanks for the video! :D

My sega genesis was a model 2. We were poor but my stepmother was crazy and became addicted to collecting stuff for the genesis, pimping it out with the CD and 32x lol
I got the Genesis here in NA when it came out . Had Altered Beast as the pack in . I was pissed when they later changed it to Sonic. I bought that separately for like almost 50 bucks! That's back in 1990 too. Was like almost 100 bucks now.

I am completely in love with your accent. keep bringing videos with the interesting history of these obscure consoles and games.
UK!!!
As a Brazilian viewer i have to say, the amount of research was really impressive, keep up the good work, subscribed!
Not to mention all those new games inspired by the old classics like Bloodstained, The Messenger and Axiom Verge.
A Tectoy explorou tudo o que pôde (nem sei se pôde ainda usa circunflexo) da Sega haha
had no idea about most of this, thanks for the knowledge, subbed!!
Your content is awesome, keep up the great work 👍🏻
Another cool video. It is amazing how Brazil continued with versions of the MegaDrive.
Brazilian loves Mega Drive, TEC TOY is planning on making another SEGA console
I have always wanted to go to Brazil ever since I saw Bart Simpson go there.
I like your video. The way you explain everything so clear
Love your channel. I've been watching retrogaming channels for over a decade and your videos have actually shown me new things. Great work!
Awesome video, awesome channel. My shout-out to the one and only Top Hat Gaming Man too.
The Mega Drive; more forms than a Dragonball villain. Or the Commodore
I'm brazillian and I have NEVER seen another models of the Mega Drive besides MD III, The original one and this infamous of the MD IV. That's absolute nuts. Great video!
I loved the Hogan reference, BROTHER 👍
I got a Mega Drive II bundled with Sonic 2, Jurassic Park, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle & Columns for Christmas 1993.
6:02 OMG!!! I can't believe you also mentioned that game lol (and your Show do Milhão pronunciation was funny). Greetings from Brazil!
@10:14 you said _"FIFA Street"_
The box says *Need for Speed* *Pro Street*
Thanks for the excellent video. 😃👍✨🏆
Nice to see a video of the Brazilian video game history in English.
As a brazilian. I feel a disturbance in the force.
I think you’re great :).
There’s a lot of gaming channels and I culled a lot off my list over the years but I’ve subbed 👍
I feel so sheltered as an American lol. It’s crazy how varied the gaming world used to look from country to country.
I KNOW! The "NES in India" episode really shook me and showed how some countries don't give some game companies a straight line to success.
Keep up the good work lass and stay safe.
Sending you my love here from Brazil!
The mega drive 4 !? There are many old computers in hard to think about them all . It's that your 2ds ? You're so cool ! And clever lol x
Mega drive 1 was renamed to 2 here due to the internal hardware revision
Pretty sure Stop Skeletons From Fighting got a Zeebo as a patreon goal... You should work with them on that if you can!
very good video. Tectoy was also responsible for bringing up an unreleased game for the sega cd.
Nice work Lady!
hi from brazil, you did a great job, great content i am passionate about video games and i have a small collection.
THAT WAS.... amazing. Never knew about this, I'm so glad I'm one of your patreons and you're giving us quality content 👌
Another great vids that dives into gaming history, keep'em coming 👍👍👍
6:19 Okay.. I speak English and I know a spot of Spanish but for some reason I can translate this Portuguese sentence. "Which of these groups started they're career in Seattle?" I think the answer is Soundgarden btw.
Close. Which did NOT start. (Não = not)
Okay, this is my first time commenting on this channel.
This was an interesting one. Good work
New sub. Love you and the content of course. ❤
Funny you said about the Brazilian market as the Dreamcast survived for quite some time in Brazil and in some parts of Asia as a VCD player package as you could buy spares for DC from a place in Brazil.
Great episode! I had no idea this classic was still in production, let alone still played regularly.
“Sonic mania was running wild brotha “
I swear to God the case is being used for that mega drive 3 is exactly the same as a wireless router I used to have.
Its so awesome to see your channel grow!
6:03 "future Sega mega drive 3s" haha
"One word: Thunder-cougar-falcon-bird"
I feel like this is the remix of Top Hat Gaming’s video
As brazilian i can say most of us love new releases and also retro games. I do have a Switch, a Vita and a Virtual Boy. I personaly love 16 bits.
Another awesome video. Watch out all you other Gaming Sleuths on TH-cam because The Lady Decade is coming for your 👑. Already eagerly awaiting the next mystery to be solved.
You have really different and interesting mannerisms. Youre like that loud guy down the arcade trying to get a bit of attention shouting loudly about his gaming prowess. Infact its just clicked! You totally remind me of Daniel Ibbertson AKA DJ Slope from Slopes Game Room! Keep the great content coming, big love and concrete respect!
6 years ago I had Both Genesis I and II and the Sega AC Adapter had a major flaw couldn't leave it plugged it had a mini transformer and been known to cause fires
Great video, very interesting thank you very much 👍
