      I'd like to add my own note:
      Yes, the Show do Milhão is a knockoff of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The owner of the SBT network (depicted there hosting the show) is notorious for filling his air time with knockoffs of stuff he watched in his trips to the US.

      In fact, as all Mega Drives are licensed by SEGA, TecToy is obliged to share the profits with SEGA, even on Mega Drive 4.
      At the launch of the 2017 Mega Drive that follows the style of the original Mega Drive, the president of SEGA of Japan was even present at a conference in Brazil,
      because of that, there are people who think that what motivated the launch of the Mega Drive Mini.

    During the late 2000s and early 2010, the PS2 was increasingly more popular around here. The stories are much more convoluted and the pirate market never, to this day, subsided. Consoles with emulators that run thousands of games, from several consoles, are quite popular nowadays.

    Some fun facts about the new interation of the Mega Drive:
    1. It is not a mini console, and does not use emulation: it is a system-on-a-chip console, not very different from the AtGames consoles, and it has the same size of the original console; 2- It comes with Sonic 3; 3- All the 22 included games are in the SD card, not the system's memory; 4- The console had sound issues upon launch, but a modder made a firmware update that improved the sound quality. That mod got officially supported by TecToy, and distributed online. You can use the SD slot for firmware updates;

    You are a true video game historian for bringing the long running TecToy endeavour with Sega consoles to english speaking audiences. I actually owned a Dynavision Megavision as a child, a popular MD clone from the mid 90's that was pulled out of the stores due to a law suit by TecToy and became somewhat of a rarity. Maybe a topic to be discussed in future videos.
    I remember too that the Mega Drive that came packing Show do Milhão got advertised in the TV show, which was massively popular at the time. It triggered a true renascence for the console in a time the Playstation 1 had already become the most popular system in the country.

    Being from Brazil, there are some things I think should be clarified.
    6:40 Yeah, that's how much 1M Brazilian Reais is worth now. But back then, when the show was on the air, it was worth a lot more (blasted inflation!). By the way, it's VERY weird seeing so many pictures of Silvio Santos (the guy that presented the show, he's the owner of the network. He's kind of a mixture of Lorne Michaels with Citizen Kane? Maybe?)
    7:00 It's interesting to point out that TecToy actually manufactured and sold the Dreamcast here in Brazil, and a lot of that was possible because they made a lot of money selling Mega Drives and Master Systems around here. Unfortunately, the Dreamcast was as lucky here as in the rest of the world.
    And, hey, if you want an even crazier story, try finding out how Brazil ended up manufacturing SNES consoles and cartridges. =)

      I'm always fascinated by game systems that never release in the USA. Despite it's low specs, the Zeebo sounds like it could have been an interesting system, if only it could have gotten a player base big enough to attract game developers. And while I'd like to own a few of these obscure systems like the Amstrad GX4000 just out of curiosity, since the Zeebo was download only instead of physical media, there wouldn't be much point.

It seems You mentioned MK3 as a pack in of a later model, but well, there You go to add to your extensíve list of Tec Toy's creative marketing smarts: a Mega Drive Model 1 design bundled with Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate was already marketed here. To get the ideia, the only time my mother played a SNES was at a friend's house, which his parents bought a Super Famicom straight from Japan. You either knew somebody from the outside, or you were a rich kid to have a SNES here.

    Brazillian Saturn or Dreamcast consoles?

    • @Jucelegario
      @Jucelegario 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Saturn was too expensive for us consumers and Sega console makers in Brazil strive in the popularity the Genesis had and has among the Brazilian population and that itself depends on how cheap the initial release back on the day was in Brazil...which is why both Saturn and dreamcast were never as popular as the master system and the Genesis. You won't see recreations of those consoles because of this.

    I've known of TecToy's ongoing quiet SEGA Revolution, but I've not known about the strange name changing of the Mega Drive or even the weird console varients like the Mega Drive 4, I think TecToy had a hand in developing the AtGames handhelds as I recall them being mentioned in the manual of the AtGames Genesis handheld, but I haven't read it in a long time so my brain's probably playing tricks on me

    Right, to be honest the mini is SO 3 days ago, what we need is a system for a person of culture, something for the person who eats Grey Poupon. Once again THGM, you deliver.

    When did they switch over from original hardware to systems on a chip?

  • @GustavoValdiviesso
    @GustavoValdiviesso 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mr Top Hat, the last information you gave is not accurate. TecToy did not release a Mega Drive mini in 2017. That is a re-release of the original Mega Drive, hence the lack of an HDMI port. The SD cart is not meant for playing roms. The hardware inside is the original, no FPGAs. Back then, TecToy announced their plans to release cartridges again, starting with 10 games. However, that never happened.

    Its interesting to see how far the graphics can be pushed on a 16bit system from the late 80's. Like Guitar Idol looks like something we could have seen on the 32x or even maybe an early Saturn release.

    I knew tectoy had a long history of publishing SEGA hardware and games over there! I was blown away the megadrive got a port of NFS prostreet! looking it up elsewhere on youtube it didn't seem like a terrible conversion. but looking up what guitar idol looks like, interesting how good the sound quality is on it! definitely doesn't sound like a native genesis, especially in the case of the audio. but an interesting curiosity.

    • @OutFreak28

      Hmm no.
      Chavelo was a kids show, kids went to the show participated in some competitions and win prizes, it aired every sunday morning for like... 50 years or something like that.
      There is a lot of memes about how old the guy (chavelo) is but it's not the same as "El chavo".
