I'm actually back for the first time in a little bit. I think people are finding they've had enough Warhammer(not everyone) but even I've gone back to the other games lately.

Legend used to mainly play this. Then he played Attila and Rome 2 and was absolutely miserable as LegendofTotalAutoresolve before eventually playing Total War Warhammer and getting really into the expansion, TWW2.
@@lokenontherange I've only recently got a laptop that can play the total war games beyond shogun 2. So I've been catching up on them all, but used to replay shogun, Rome, medieval 2 and shogun 2 over and over.
@@Snotlingfondler I have a very good pc and I still play the older ones more. The warhammer games are frustrating to me because of how much the AI is able to cheat, even inside of battles. Your units don't pursue units correctly, they seem to be able to detach whenever they want and your units will just stand there doing nothing even if you've previously told them to fight, the battles are so absurdly quick because of how ridiculous every units dps is, and the sieges are so unbelievably bad. Outside of battles the ai has infinite money, can always have multiple full stacks, takes no attrition, has absurd casualty replenishment, and only attacks with overwhelming force so you constantly need to spam either ambushes or lightning strike. Your garrisons are also near useless because the ai will never attack you unless the odds are ridiculously in its favour. Honestly I'd still advise people play the lord of the rings mods for medieval 2 ahead of the warhammer games unless all the want is pure spectacle.
@@lokenontherange well I've been playing warhammer 2 and a bit of 3 and I enjoy them. There's definitely problems but not enough to make me hate it (all the games have problems). There's much to be said for the huge faction and unit variety and faction mechanics. But I only play on normal difficulty so maybe that's why there's a dissonance in our opinions of it.
I didn't knew how i missed seeing the good old Medieval campaigns. Even tho obviously they are now not so cool ,and flashy like Warhammer. They still have their charm, and are amazing to this day even without mods.
Legend, I never comment on videos but I'm making an exception - Medieval 2 content is awesome and would love to see a part 2 of this campaign. There's a lot to do still to bring it back.
warhammer TW is a trash strategy game. It's just superficial role play elements and a spectacle game. Not the same stuff real Total War games were made of

Look how much faster cavalry runs down fleeing units. So cathartic to watch a Med2 disaster campaign - the battles feel so much punchier even with the dated interface and graphics. Thanks for this one Legend.
Were we watching the same video? Every time the cavalry was used it was just dire how it responded to instructions and sauntered into a non-charge! Modern total wars definitely leave a lot to be desired, but the clunkiness of the cav in this video was kinda painful to watch.
Nice to see a campaign again, I like the battles you do but the reason I watched your channel In the first place was for the campaign strategy and how you play things out, great to see and hopefully more campaign stuff in the future.

I wish they'd make Medieval 3 by building upon Medieval 2 rather than building upon the more modern games. Include the quality of life changes obviously, but there's a lot that got lost along the development of the franchise.
That’s because it had a better engine where individual soldiers actually acted realistically to their situation instead of just engaging in an obviously choreographed animation every 2 seconds like it’s a shitty movie.
Ikr I went from MD2TW straight to Warhammer 2 that legendary lord bullshit had me angry. Literally I'd have 4 units wailing on one guy and he's just chilling, really annoyed me when I lst a battle after killin all his soldiers and one prick on a chariot just ends 409 elves on his own. Like Ty game I needed that
The maps feel so much larger than in warhammer! You can actually use your cav. I think medieval 2 and attila have the best cav feel. Every other total war you just spam ranged or shitstacks for autoresolve. Thank you for this vid! Hope to see med3 some day.
In all my years of playing RTW, only once did I have a truly anomalous general in terms of age. It was a Bruttii campaign and the guy lived to be 100, and his bodyguard alone grew to over 200 men. He had the trait Horribly scarred, which struck fear in children AND his enemies.
I'll sometimes dig through Legend's old playlists and videos simply because I enjoy seeing the gameplay of the historical titles. Very pleased to see this one pop up in the feed!
An old Legend subscriber here. Let me tell you having not watched any of the fantasy Total War game videos, it is funny hearing Legend critique the controls on Medieval 2 compared to the newer games. A few years back, Legend would say Medieval II beat the piss out of most of the newer TW titles. Thanks for the nostalgia and its a humorous reminder of how times and people change.
As someone still relatively new to TW, I'm a huge fan of the disaster campaign videos. So much to learn from; how things can go wrong and how to get out of it. Hope to see more of them in the future.
I'm a relatively new fan since I started watching you with Warhammer 3. But this was an awesome video and would be great to see more of the other total war games that you get submissions for. I'm considering getting this game now after watching it.
you should definitely do that mate, med2 is the probably the best game of the series. The Kingdoms DLC is a must too. And there is a huge selection of insanely good mods to spice things up if you are interested. (stainless steel and third age total war are the best ones imo)
Legend, I originally came to your channel for your Warhammer content, but this is one of my favorite videos you've made all year. It was a good dose of nostalgia seeing Medieval 2 again, and this was a TRULY disastrous campaign situation. I'd personally love a part 2.

He's talked about this before. He's dependent on you for content. If you want to see something, then start playing that game and when you get into a disaster, send it in. He does so much warhammer because he gets so much warhammer.
Man I forgot how good all the banners looked in Medieval 2, been a few couple years since I touched it. Something about seeing all the little banners and whatnot as units gain experience really makes you feel like they're veterans fighting for their country, particularly as a group of knights charge superior numbers.
I finally understand why people were so bummed by the sieges and map sizes in WH2 and 3. God, to have fast units and kite around massive maps and castles like that...
They were also ALL unique. You can also have campaign map based battles, eg. If the battle takes place on a bridge on the campaign map, you will fight on a bridge. If you fight in front of a river, the fight will take place in front of the river. It was super cool.
Honest question: If the disaster campaign videos do well enough would you consider something like pulling off a campaign victory from a disaster start over the course of a livestream? I feel like itd be interesting to watch.
The Medieval 2 content was pretty interesting! Weapons team armies are fun to watch, but I don’t mind this at all, I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would!
A quality of life feature I noticed that isn't in Warhammer is at least the unit markings (when you drag them out) show up with contrast depending on the terrain colour. That would be a nice feature to turn on. Snow battles with arrows and white markings kind of suck.
I played as HRE and expanded pretty fast, I'm at the point now though where I'm at war with catholic factions constantly but not strong enough to tell the pope to go to hell, so I'm always making peace with one power while taking a settlement from another, etc @@roguewasbanned4746
Minimize field battles as much as much possible always attack at cities or forts or castles easier to kill the whole army rather than chasing them down like this guy does in large open maps always be a defender on bridge battles never attack a guarded bridge that kind of stuff the game is a lot of fun been playing it for years now

Part 2 would be a lot shorter than part 1 at least. I don't know if the original player could reasonably pull their bootstraps up from that, even with the big boost you've given them. I do like Medieval 2 every once in a while, thanks Legend.

Ah i remember medibal 2. It was my first total war i ever played, it was a lucky day i found this in my local game store. I was like "you like medival, you like strategie, this game sounds to good to be true" and i had a blast playing it even if i had to play it on low graphics on my good old potato.😂❤
That was a fun experience. You got him out of debt. When that Scottish diplomacy came in, i was sure it was going to be a DoW. Were this my campaign, which it is not, I'd want to repair my damaged units and cities. I don't understand why raising fresh units is better. I'm pretty sure I don't know how to take a city with just cavalry. Sniping enemy commanders? Sure, but you know what you are doing. I know I'd appreciate a part two for this campaign.
Fresh units are not better but bc there probably wasn’t a lot of time before end of game in this one he just doesn’t bother to do repairs or retrain the units in these disaster it’s not always a god way to play bc veteran units usually have higher morale and don’t break as quick
Wow a Medieval 2 vid. My original Total War experience, one of the best in the series. Ngl though I don't know how you lose settlement battles to the AI in Medieval 2 it's pretty easy to comp stomp in almost any situation in this one.
Wild that this is just a bit over a year since I sent you my replay. Great as always. I've gotten really good as the Byzantines to the point where I've won twice as them on VH/VH on long.
Really brings back the nostalgia, some good systems CA abandoned with the newer titles. This is great, if you haven't done so in awhile check out the Third Age mod & subsequent submod.
Ireland is legit the most op faction in the game, love this back when i was young af. Max dificulty and battle difficulty and gg easy with Muire soldiers and Mounted Calivermen / calivermen are just so good along with Lord’s Retinue is just the best late game, can pretty much beat any army
Love seeing medieval 2 content. One reason why I would love a remaster of this is because the units could use some more responsiveness and better unit cohesion. Still an amazing game (and my first total war) but the clunkiness can be a tad annoying at times

Medieval 2 while a very old game it still does a lot more right than Warhammer in many aspects.

Oh yeah, cavalry in Rome/Med 2 was insane, i loved it. Playing as Parthia and going full Cavalry army was so satisfying.

The forts system they brag about in Pharaoh is based on the forts in this Kingdoms Britain campaign here. Medieval II still influential.
The forts are way way older, Rome 1 old so years before Medieval 2's Kingdoms expansion

Fresh units are not better but bc there probably wasn’t a lot of time before end of game in this one he just doesn’t bother to do repairs or retrain the units in these disaster it’s not always a god way to play bc veteran units usually have higher morale and don’t break as quick

Wow a Medieval 2 vid. My original Total War experience, one of the best in the series. Ngl though I don't know how you lose settlement battles to the AI in Medieval 2 it's pretty easy to comp stomp in almost any situation in this one.

Ireland is legit the most op faction in the game, love this back when i was young af. Max dificulty and battle difficulty and gg easy with Muire soldiers and Mounted Calivermen / calivermen are just so good along with Lord’s Retinue is just the best late game, can pretty much beat any army
Also they have King with a ton of dread
Love seeing medieval 2 content. One reason why I would love a remaster of this is because the units could use some more responsiveness and better unit cohesion. Still an amazing game (and my first total war) but the clunkiness can be a tad annoying at times
