Hi Rob, you did a great job explaining how easy it is to install and setup your VPN Router. Then I read some of the comments people posted, and I just have to wonder. To me what is important is not where you got the software or if it is freeware or commercial, or if it is closed-source or open-source, all that is up to you. What is important is how well your VPN service works and how well your VPN Router works, and when something goes wrong how well you respond to it. I am currently with IPVanish for the next year. But I will keep you in mind for when that year is up.

Google owns TH-cam and one of their main income if from sharing our metadata so you can see why they will want to deplatform someone going this area. Again you are using their platform so it is not something we all not expecting :)
A very interesting & informative video. I'm a single-person household at home & only have one laptop computer which connects to the internet via a pre-paid mobile broadband internet connection (which is assigned a mobile phone number & basically connects to the internet via a mobile phone call). This connection is made by inserting a USB dongle (containing the SIM card for the internet service) into one of the laptop's USB ports - so it is basically a cellular internet connection. I don't have any wired or wi-fi internet connection at home at all, & don't really have a need for one - since the only other "device" in my home is my own mobile phone, which has its own small cellular data supply, which comes with my mobile phone plan (& obviously I don't use that when I'm at home - as I can use my laptop's own internet connection while I'm at home). So I really don't have to worry about visitors to my home wanting to use my home wi-fi - because I don't have any home wi-fi for them to use, or that level of functionality at all. While I'm not particularly technically knowledgeable - I believe that, given my computer set-up at home, a Brax Router probably would not be of much use to me - though I may be able to put the Brax Bytz VPN to good use on my laptop, even though my laptop has an internet connection which is basically a cellular connection. I'm wondering if the Bytz VPN needs to use any other hardware apart from my laptop itself - can it just be installed as software on my laptop?
You are fine then. If you have no DSL, then cell data does not reveal your IP address directly. However, your carrier still sees your DNS requests and that's where you'd still want a VPN on your device to keep the carrier from profiling you.

Don't forget to convey that if you go wired, to unplug during thunderstorms. I lost a motherboard twice in the same computer from nearby strikes that went through surge protection and took the motherboards out through the NIC's (of course it took the routers out too, both times). The first time I didn't know better, the second time I was off mountain when the front changed direction too rapidly for me to get back on the mountain top to disconnect and it was so bad I couldn't get out of the truck to get into the house.

My wife convinced me to join Tracfone & I now use a Samsung Crown 7 which has no more usable space. I'm very pleased with my "de-googled" phone I got from Rob. But, pre-SIM installation, EVERY carrier told me my phone wouldn't work with their cell service! It worked fine of course. Rob, I have a fairly complex (but not that unusual) home network built around a broadband modem, Unifi USG, Unifi and Netgear Gb switches and Unifi AC-Pro Wifi APs. I use a combination of wired and wifi access across multple sub-nets (IoT, Not, main LAN etc.). And I use a Pi-Zero to run PiHole. I'd like the option of using your VPN solution at the network level and don't that the BraxRouter would suit my particular setup. Is there any info around that may help me better inform myself? Is this open source? Do we have to trust you instead of other VPN third parties? Other parties are also providing so called "Zero Trust Services" but without really any transparency, how do you know if it is only marketing talk.
I also have another question: Does the Brax router support subnetting? My network is class B. I did this to add an extra level of security by having a different (from the typical class A IP that most home routers are configured with by default) local IP and also to limit the number of hosts on the subnet. It's a /26 (subnet size is 62 rather than 254 with a class A /24) Then by limiting the DHCP range, I can control the number of available IP's on the LAN. Anyone trying to connect to the LAN via WiFi wouldn't be able to, as there woudn't be any available IP's. I just wanted to ask you if it would support subnetting because some Chinese routers actually don't. This is a must for my particular network.
@@robbraxmantech Sorry what do you mean by that? That it would get an IP from the DHCP server upstream? I'm just asking if it's possible to replace the IP. Let's say the unit ships with a default IP of 192.168.1.1/24 to something like 172.16. 50.1/26. Is it possible to do that with your router?

I stated the differences in the video. This is not a "standard" VPN router because a standard VPN router is a "Wifi" router. This can operate completely as a wired router (wifi turned off), with the option of a TOR connection instead. And automatic configuration and updates. So it's less complex. But the routing is done using Linux so in actual operation it is identical to DD-WRT, pfSense. A powerful non-techie device.
In the video you say that we get a double NAT when we will use your Brax router with pi-hole. This causes a problem on Xbox as it will register a double Nat and not work correctly. What is your solution for this?
I live in a rural area where I only have ATT 5GE wireless wifi hotspot through my LGV30 phone. Can Brax router use my hotspot as wifi 1 ? Or does it require a hard wire Ethernet only for wifi 1 ?
In a bigger home where multiple down line “satellites” are used to expand range, all with the same network password, does your device (Wi-Fi 2) simply sit between the satellites and wifi 1? And in order to make sure everyone connects through the braxrouter they are simply given the braxrouter password and will connect through the closest satellite?
@@robbraxmantech I want to go wired to main router but not the satellites. This is our Wi-Fi coverage. We don’t use them wired so then how would it work for anyone accessing our network to be on your VPN?
I think you're misunderstanding this. If you put BraxRouter in the middle of the network, all the devices downstream (which you call "satellites" -- not a term that I'd use), would be on the VPN. So it depends on where you insert it. That's why I use the terms Upstream and Downstream in the video. BraxRouter would be a wired router with no Wifi whatsoever.

I know this is an old video now but I just thought I'd ask if it's possible for a user's system to modify the brax router software/firmware settings so as to circumvent the VPN/Tor connection?
I'm probably too stupid to understand but, I wonder if every devices in my home are connected to braxrouter, then braxrouter is connected to my ISP provider router/modem, then... my ISP and all websites that my devices are connected to see that connections are from my home anyway, right? Or I'm missing something? Second question is, could it be possible to add anti virus/malware/ransomware/worms/trojans/adware software to that router? Third. Does that router hide ethernet hardware address (HW address, ethernet address, NODE ID, MAC) which is transmitted with each packed data?
@Rob Braxman Tech I have a question for you Rob. I use cellular data for my internet (Phone in hotspot mode) and I use a Rav travel hub router to get around the 1 device limit the hotspot has. My question is, is it possible to setup the brax router by connecting with with the rav travel hub? It has a ethernet connection to use it as a access point as well as a router itself.

You do have a app for Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, or have a weather app, voice command, and or have a App Store on your phone? All of these and more are watching and storing your data and information to the cloud and such and can know exactly where you are. Watch some of his other videos on this topic. You know by "coincidental" assumptions of advertising that's "tailored" to you. Sometimes this can get really creepy - You discuss cancer within earshot of a Alexa in your friend's house that is supposed to not be "on" because you don't know Alexa records all in anticipation of hearing its "activation word." An hour later you see repeated ads that take for granted you are the one who is sick. You learn the tech behind corporate data collection activity. That's the purpose of this channel, to teach you so you know about privacy violations. Another example I learned off this channel: Most phones (except those phones that run Linux or are "de-googled,") are reporting your location, 24-7. This location monitoring feature is in the WiFi hardware of phones and you can't turn it off. The capacity of Wifi in phones and laptops search constantly to connect to WiFi signals - so these locations of various WiFi locations are being "triangulated"...within six feet.
When you browse the internet, all your logs are stored to your internet service provider dns server. Even with a vpn they still know. Vpn alone isn't safe because it can still show your isp dns server. Change your DNS too. This dns server I share with you deletes your logs and won't go directly to your internet company. The first dns is 1.1.1.1 and the second DNS is 1.0.0.1 what I say is true. If you don't believe me you can test yourself. Go to this website dnsleak.com This will show You your location address and below it show your internet provider. Change your dns to 1.1.1.1 and your internet provider can't see your logs.
It's discussed in the video. Without the VPN there is no decline at all. Obviously it is adding multiple hops along potentially far servers. And there's local throttling as well to contend with, plus encryption.
Is there another source in your site that I can download the brax-wifi-pi4.img file? Last time I downloaded, the disc image was corrupted. The file could not even be mounted and the braxrouter could not be booted.
Flip phones still track you with Wifi-triangulation - WIFI hardware that is "promiscuous" and you cannot turn it off. You need a "de-googled" phone so the Wifi locations don't get sent back to the "mother ship" of Google.
Hi Rob, I am considering one of the routers and I watched the video on the hardware...I need something that I can create a profile for users, and devices that can monitor URL level traffic. I want to be able to give a profile large blocks of time for EDU or work related sites, and then set a smaller time for entertainment sites. Is there any way to implement such.... the Synology has a version that does some good things, but limited on other aspects.
I want to buy new washer machine but I'm afraid of wi-fi every machine has on the market today. I don't want to be control additionally by my machine, I turned off wi-fi off my computer for good. I'm already 3 months without washer because of "smart" concerns. If anybody knows is there possible to get normal machine? without sensitive electronics which very often made to not last you very long.
I'd ask at the specialty shops near your location who service washing machines, which ones don't have electronics that are "smart" that also have good repair histories. I'd also use my local library, which often has an online account for Consumer Reports magazines. Old issues of that magazine often will tell you the features of washers that perhaps you could buy used off craigslist in your area.

If you have the BytzVPN with the Brax Router, BytzVPN only uses ONE of the SIX possible devices on the VPN list - so you could install BytzVPN to your laptop and use THAT.
Outgoing only for remote desktop. No port forwarding allowed. But you still have your original Wifi since that is not affected. However, there is no need to do port forwarding. Many remote control options can do without that. Very dangerous.
So, I just have a question. I can't remember when it was exactly but you did a live stream where you didn't want consumers/users using your vpn products for torrenting. You didn't explain why in that livestream you just kept repeating you don't want those users in your servers. Before I get "slammed", defending or not defending such act is not my intention. My question is, If your products provides network protection and privacy, then why even mentioned that if the user's action is unknown? Am I missing or not understanding something here? Most likely I'm not understanding networking monitoring or something but that statement confused me.
Action is unknown to me. But the people who you connect to with BitTorrent are not legit. They're there to catch you and they record the time stamp. So why use a platform where someone is actively attacking you?

Many legit companies use bit torrent for legit legal purposes , but due to the former napster situation torrents have been given a bad rap. Even TOR gets a bad rap , I was talking with a company rep that installs and sets up networks and when I asked him about TOR , he rather freaked , he said oh no we can't talk about that , and when I asked why not , he would only say that they only go with legit services ......the whole silk road scenario , ppl hear something and then instead of learning that TOR is useful , all they can think of is how someone is trying to be a bad guy by hiding themself online , they have no real understanding that doing so is protecting their identity , ...in their blind eyes they can only think that if you want to hide your ID you have to be doing something nefarious ...but they don't seem to care that selling your privacy is not a good thing....they be the type that thinks that everything on main stream media is true when it's not .....

@@robbraxmantech Do you know if the security standards established for/by 802.11w are now part of the basic 802.11 standard? Seems like they might be. I read they were part of 802.11ac and above so presumed they were not guaranteed to be implemented in a router with anything less. Although I have read that the "w" standards could be implemented by some manufacturers in older routers, there was no way to be sure of that unless it was certified as 802.11ac compliant.
Getting to know what your VPN provider does with your information takes research. I like BytzVPN's reputation. BytzVPN is always updating its servers. So those of us who use it,(without the BraxRouter) must manually connect to different locations on a routine basis. But the BraxRouter, all you need to do to update is to turn it off and on again & it uploads the updates automatically. Much easier.

@@robbraxmantech Doesn't the switch just pass whatever packets follow under them, It provides hardware lever but not IP. I believe you can have multiple IPS going on in switch.
So im not a tech savvy guy right. I don't mean to insult, but if this is a product you made and you sell, how do i know that this device isn't just sending data to you or elsewhere? How can I verify that it does what you claim? Again, I mean no disrespect. I hope you can understand why I would have reservations connecting this to my network and then logging in to sensitive logins through it.
Unless you want to learn the tech details to verify, you'll want to trust Rob. I've known him for years and he's repeatedly attempted to show and educate us all on privacy. If he was exploiting us - his whole scene would be a lie. I'm not sure if I saw it when Rob was broadcasting on Periscope, but he showed us at one point when he designed BytzVPN how there was a lack of VPN logs, etc. on a live stream.

If you are a techy type of guy you can properly be able to do it, here are the IPVanish instructions for my router, support.ipvanish.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005116773-How-to-configure-IPVanish-OpenVPN-in-ASUSWRT- Just use the config files from here bytzvpn.com/ovpn/installation.php and the user name and password that he will send you.
As with anything, you must learn how this tech works. Given Rob's reputation, it would be crazy for him to offer BytzVPN on the Rasberry pi if it had a "backdoor." But, you never know - someone might find a way in. At that point, Rob will find another way! Rob used to recommend another VPN. He designed his own VPN when that company changed hands and became objectionable.

the power line adapters are trash though, so only ever use these as a product of last resort. They might be a decade into development now, but they're still incredibly inconsistent. It seems age of home matters quite a bit for this, but in general they're an inconsistent device, an older home just makes them even more inconsistent.

Hi Rob, you did a great job explaining how easy it is to install and setup your VPN Router. Then I read some of the comments people posted, and I just have to wonder. To me what is important is not where you got the software or if it is freeware or commercial, or if it is closed-source or open-source, all that is up to you. What is important is how well your VPN service works and how well your VPN Router works, and when something goes wrong how well you respond to it. I am currently with IPVanish for the next year. But I will keep you in mind for when that year is up.

A very interesting & informative video. I'm a single-person household at home & only have one laptop computer which connects to the internet via a pre-paid mobile broadband internet connection (which is assigned a mobile phone number & basically connects to the internet via a mobile phone call). This connection is made by inserting a USB dongle (containing the SIM card for the internet service) into one of the laptop's USB ports - so it is basically a cellular internet connection.
I don't have any wired or wi-fi internet connection at home at all, & don't really have a need for one - since the only other "device" in my home is my own mobile phone, which has its own small cellular data supply, which comes with my mobile phone plan (& obviously I don't use that when I'm at home - as I can use my laptop's own internet connection while I'm at home).
So I really don't have to worry about visitors to my home wanting to use my home wi-fi - because I don't have any home wi-fi for them to use, or that level of functionality at all.
While I'm not particularly technically knowledgeable - I believe that, given my computer set-up at home, a Brax Router probably would not be of much use to me - though I may be able to put the Brax Bytz VPN to good use on my laptop, even though my laptop has an internet connection which is basically a cellular connection. I'm wondering if the Bytz VPN needs to use any other hardware apart from my laptop itself - can it just be installed as software on my laptop?
You are fine then. If you have no DSL, then cell data does not reveal your IP address directly. However, your carrier still sees your DNS requests and that's where you'd still want a VPN on your device to keep the carrier from profiling you.

Don't forget to convey that if you go wired, to unplug during thunderstorms. I lost a motherboard twice in the same computer from nearby strikes that went through surge protection and took the motherboards out through the NIC's (of course it took the routers out too, both times). The first time I didn't know better, the second time I was off mountain when the front changed direction too rapidly for me to get back on the mountain top to disconnect and it was so bad I couldn't get out of the truck to get into the house.

Not recommended. Too much work. Our VPN is automatic on it.

BraxRouter does not operate in combo mode. You choose one mode only. Though you can add other devices to create your own combo

Rob, I have a fairly complex (but not that unusual) home network built around a broadband modem, Unifi USG, Unifi and Netgear Gb switches and Unifi AC-Pro Wifi APs. I use a combination of wired and wifi access across multple sub-nets (IoT, Not, main LAN etc.). And I use a Pi-Zero to run PiHole. I'd like the option of using your VPN solution at the network level and don't that the BraxRouter would suit my particular setup. Is there any info around that may help me better inform myself?

It's an encrypted subnet so it has to be on a different subnet. But that has nothing to do with NAT necessarily. The correct term is subnet

Is this open source? Do we have to trust you instead of other VPN third parties? Other parties are also providing so called "Zero Trust Services" but without really any transparency, how do you know if it is only marketing talk.
I also have another question: Does the Brax router support subnetting? My network is class B. I did this to add an extra level of security by having a different (from the typical class A IP that most home routers are configured with by default) local IP and also to limit the number of hosts on the subnet. It's a /26 (subnet size is 62 rather than 254 with a class A /24) Then by limiting the DHCP range, I can control the number of available IP's on the LAN. Anyone trying to connect to the LAN via WiFi wouldn't be able to, as there woudn't be any available IP's. I just wanted to ask you if it would support subnetting because some Chinese routers actually don't. This is a must for my particular network.

I stated the differences in the video. This is not a "standard" VPN router because a standard VPN router is a "Wifi" router. This can operate completely as a wired router (wifi turned off), with the option of a TOR connection instead. And automatic configuration and updates. So it's less complex. But the routing is done using Linux so in actual operation it is identical to DD-WRT, pfSense. A powerful non-techie device.

In a bigger home where multiple down line “satellites” are used to expand range, all with the same network password, does your device (Wi-Fi 2) simply sit between the satellites and wifi 1? And in order to make sure everyone connects through the braxrouter they are simply given the braxrouter password and will connect through the closest satellite?
If you use it wired, it is pass through, there is no password. The password is on the Wifi routers downstream

I think you're misunderstanding this. If you put BraxRouter in the middle of the network, all the devices downstream (which you call "satellites" -- not a term that I'd use), would be on the VPN.
So it depends on where you insert it. That's why I use the terms Upstream and Downstream in the video.
BraxRouter would be a wired router with no Wifi whatsoever.

It's actually designed for what you're talking about. But you have to be willing to tunnel the network to the VPN

My question is, is it possible to setup the brax router by connecting with with the rav travel hub? It has a ethernet connection to use it as a access point as well as a router itself.
You can try it. BraxRouter is returnable if it doesn't work.
Yes if the source has ethernet, there's no reason for it not to work. Should work with LTE modems.

The first dns is 1.1.1.1 and the second DNS is 1.0.0.1 what I say is true. If you don't believe me you can test yourself. Go to this website dnsleak.com This will show You your location address and below it show your internet provider. Change your dns to 1.1.1.1 and your internet provider can't see your logs.
Rob, how much of a decline in bandwidth performance could I expect to see if I start using your Brax Router?
It's discussed in the video. Without the VPN there is no decline at all. Obviously it is adding multiple hops along potentially far servers. And there's local throttling as well to contend with, plus encryption.

Flip phones still track you with Wifi-triangulation - WIFI hardware that is "promiscuous" and you cannot turn it off. You need a "de-googled" phone so the Wifi locations don't get sent back to the "mother ship" of Google.
Hi Rob, I am considering one of the routers and I watched the video on the hardware...I need something that I can create a profile for users, and devices that can monitor URL level traffic. I want to be able to give a profile large blocks of time for EDU or work related sites, and then set a smaller time for entertainment sites. Is there any way to implement such.... the Synology has a version that does some good things, but limited on other aspects.

I'd ask at the specialty shops near your location who service washing machines, which ones don't have electronics that are "smart" that also have good repair histories. I'd also use my local library, which often has an online account for Consumer Reports magazines. Old issues of that magazine often will tell you the features of washers that perhaps you could buy used off craigslist in your area.

If you have the BytzVPN with the Brax Router, BytzVPN only uses ONE of the SIX possible devices on the VPN list - so you could install BytzVPN to your laptop and use THAT.

Outgoing only for remote desktop. No port forwarding allowed. But you still have your original Wifi since that is not affected. However, there is no need to do port forwarding. Many remote control options can do without that. Very dangerous.

@@robbraxmantech Do you know if the security standards established for/by 802.11w are now part of the basic 802.11 standard? Seems like they might be. I read they were part of 802.11ac and above so presumed they were not guaranteed to be implemented in a router with anything less. Although I have read that the "w" standards could be implemented by some manufacturers in older routers, there was no way to be sure of that unless it was certified as 802.11ac compliant.
The problem with vpns are some servers are really slow. So I have to disconnect reconnect multiple times to get a fast vpn server. I use nordvpn.
Getting to know what your VPN provider does with your information takes research. I like BytzVPN's reputation. BytzVPN is always updating its servers. So those of us who use it,(without the BraxRouter) must manually connect to different locations on a routine basis.
But the BraxRouter, all you need to do to update is to turn it off and on again & it uploads the updates automatically. Much easier.

So im not a tech savvy guy right. I don't mean to insult, but if this is a product you made and you sell, how do i know that this device isn't just sending data to you or elsewhere? How can I verify that it does what you claim? Again, I mean no disrespect. I hope you can understand why I would have reservations connecting this to my network and then logging in to sensitive logins through it.
Unless you want to learn the tech details to verify, you'll want to trust Rob. I've known him for years and he's repeatedly attempted to show and educate us all on privacy. If he was exploiting us - his whole scene would be a lie.

As with anything, you must learn how this tech works. Given Rob's reputation, it would be crazy for him to offer BytzVPN on the Rasberry pi if it had a "backdoor." But, you never know - someone might find a way in. At that point, Rob will find another way! Rob used to recommend another VPN. He designed his own VPN when that company changed hands and became objectionable.

the power line adapters are trash though, so only ever use these as a product of last resort. They might be a decade into development now, but they're still incredibly inconsistent. It seems age of home matters quite a bit for this, but in general they're an inconsistent device, an older home just makes them even more inconsistent.
