    I love your approach on these topics -
    There is no fearmongering by telling us that everyone and everything is bad and that basically you should trust nothing OR ELSE.
    At the same time, you're not sugarcoating things, giving an approach/browser/technique that works and solves everything.
    You're being real, you explore the good, the bad and the extras and leave us up to make the decision, for that, I subbed - calm, collected and realistic is the way to go! Please keep making them good vids :D

    Brave may be among the best for security, but besides that it's a legitimately great browser. The layout, ease of use, lack of bugs and crashes; I really think it'd be great choice even for non-privacy minded people.
    Great video btw. I always thought there had to be a some way to identify system (especially phones), but actually hadn't heard of browser fingerprinting.

    • @40sUphillBothWays

      Brave has no sync -- at least no reliable sync. Not even the sync chain functions. It does not allow sharing. These are circumvented through extensions. This defeats privacy, and besides, extension accolades are owed to their creators, and not Brave.
      You can download about and browser, and if left in its vanilla state, will be crashless save developer end update -- maybe. This vanilla state is really the only real configuration for any method based, quantifiable data/results.
      But who wants vanilla?.
      Customization is the culprit. The availability of extensions and the ease of their submission to the public is the fault of the browser.
      Brave and all the others allow extensions because it's a massive scapegoaat reserve.

    • @KeithMcKenzie
      @KeithMcKenzie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@40sUphillBothWays That may be true but ultimately each person has to take responsibility for their actions and that includes what extensions one uses, what sites to visit, what to click on and not. Even more broadly their responsibility is to understand the threats to them, and by extension also to others if they allow their systems or accounts to be compromised.

    I just tested my browser using your webpage. Very interesting is, a reload or a new generates a different fingerprint. No details are shown when I tap "Show details".
    And this is not the Brave Browser. It is IceCat mobile in combination with the DNSFilter on my Android device.
    DNSFilter blocks all traffic to Googles firebase, facebook and mozilla services.
    For me this is a good way to protect your privacy a little better.
    I would recommend DNSFilter to supress any advertisment within Android Google Services. With DNSFilter you can configure using wildcard for domain names. I.e. *.**fb.com** or *.facebook.* works perfect.

    You know what gets me.. is w10 'Edge' (chromium) by default blocks & prompts for location .. & doesn't allow access to wifi triangulation when setup. Though, despite my ip not being 'shielded'... the location information is bad w/o wifi triangulation which if I am honest is easy to stop most by disabling your wifi if you're not using it. (I use a hard wire).
    weirdly the ISP IP lookup doesn't show anything 7 even with location tracking allowed (I am sure I've tighted security up on my windows for other reasons previously that is effecting this)
    The Fingerprinting is .. interesting for sure. Though the only 'identifing details persay past Software is my GPU... and it's not showing any other HW that's able to be identified like this.
    yes I am aware that my IP & finger print, and cookies, can be a security weakpoint for a casual target, along with which services I log into, even if they remain secure & untouched themselves.
    -- also interesting... Perhaps looking into W10 Application Guard browsing.
    Can say incoginto mode didn't seem to change the finger print, but I suspect there is more to it then meets the eye.

With that I could create one Brave brave profile for Facebook, then an additional one for Google and leave the default one for 'normal' browsing

Though I do draw the line on wardriving, but I've made cantenna's when at range. I'll just merely state that I've been doing a few things for over ten years as a hobby. Just as many others who've been playing with distro's from DistroWatch, while my first was Slack back in '98 for amusement as FreeBSD now and then. Compiling kernels and such. But these days I don't concern myself with much of this as I don't do anything nefarious, or ever had. It's just good to be aware of things. I use Firefox nightly on my phone with some plugins like decentreleyes, ublock origin and privacy badger. The fingerprinting is blocked and when i restart the browser the cookie is cleared. I'm currently using strict settings.
      In a new install of the latest firefox mobile without any changes fingerprinting is not blocked but cookies cleared or restart

    I'm pleased with what I got from firefox + multi-account containers plugin + privacy badger. Your website can't show "details", the fingerprint changes on every tab & refresh, cookies don't carry over to other tabls, even if in the same container. Care to have a look at poke holes in that setup? (I have seperate containers for personal stuff, my mail, google, amazon, facebook, microsoft, wikipedia, duckduckgo, etc - and my firefox privacy settings are turned up to max but i rarely have sites break on me).

    • @guadelhabib9755

      Seems like you just using ublock also, cause container and badger do nothing about fingerprints. You can test it by simply disabling ublock.

    So about device tracking, that is indeed a big issue. Can for example be done with Font Fingerprinting. That means every browser will have the same font fingerprint. That is if it is properly detected and no spoofing routine of the user side adds some random numbers or anything.
    Isolating Facebook and Google in a different browser is a very good idea and now can be achieved with the Firefox containers. Just wondering how efficient they are. And do they also stop fingerprinting or just separate the cookies?
    Big on a to do list to evade fingerprinting is actually the font fingerprint. Since with 100s of fonts on your device, this is a very unique combination of fonts and therefore and a very big footprint. So browsers need to find a way address this issue.

  • @roy00kk
    @roy00kk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    However, Brave has now implemented the randomisation in browser fingerprinting. Instead of blocking or hiding it, Brave just camouflages it with a new one every time. This somehow works in the other way with satisfactory results.

    I gotta tell ya, Rob. I'm a huge fan of Epic Privacy Browser. I'm running these tests over and over and it's changing the fingerprint.
    There are no details shown in "Device Signature" column.
    I don't believe it's possible to save fingerprint to cookie, because all browsing history and information gets completely wiped from the computer upon closing the browser.
    However, it WILL save the fingerprint in cookie when opening a new tab and running the test again.
    I live in Indiana, I have NordVPN set to Ireland, and Epic has proxy server set in the U.K., but your tool says I'm not protected with a VPN.
    When I set the proxy to France, your web page won't open. Gets a timeout error. When I set it to the U.K. it opens the page. Very strange, indeed.

    • @wascawywabbit0987
      @wascawywabbit0987 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm no computer geek but I think the reason VPN's give you a choice of proxy's is because the rerouting of your IP address can cause your connection to be slow because of a high volume of traffic. The trick I think is to choose a country that when it is night there, it is day where you are. Less traffic at night I think.

    Most trackers I've worked with don't actually care about fingerprints directly like that. Instead of "Fingerprint-A is User-A", it would be reversed with "User-A is associated with these Fingerprints". Users are understood to not be a single identifier, but an array of them.
