I call it my “Puck around and find out time”. I’ve been here for 3.5 years. I get 120 hours of PTO and 48 hours of Sick Time, which does not have to be scheduled. My supervisor had me so stressed I was going to take it all, and all at once, just so I could get away. Instead, I went to my lovely doctor, described the tunnel vision, throbbing vein in my eye and sea of red washing over me when I looked at her and presto, 6 weeks off at full pay, starting immediately!
I’ve been back for a couple of months and now take a Friday or a Monday off every other week so I don’t let it build up like that anymore and that heifer of a supervisor now realizes how much they need me and leave me the hell alone to get my job done.

Oh I’ve definitely had that job. My department was suppose to takeover calls from another department for two hours a day after that department left for the day. This department handled high risk accounts. So instead of offering overtime or implementing a new schedule so that department can handle their high volume of calls, they shifted it over to my department. Now understand this, they only gave us an hour in training before we started taking calls that day. So we had to take calls with very, very little training and we didn’t even have access to the high risk department computer systems. So for two hours a day we basically had to tell people to call back tomorrow to get the actual high risk department. The higher ups realized how stupid this was, after they received numerous complaints. So they took us off those calls two weeks later.

After being triaged, the doctor immediately called the emergency room and I was politely wheeled down and placed on a cardiac monitor. I was then admitted to the ICU. I could not pass go or collect $200. I know times are tough, but a job is not worth your life.

I spent plenty time giving myself pep talks in the parking lot, lol. " Don't be a stereotype, it's not worth it." I had a petty supervisor and a boss who refused to correct them even when they knew they were lying. Dead in the middle of winter, I woke up at 3 AM with the thought loud in my head: YOU NEED TO QUIT NOW. I typed up my resignation letter, printed it and drove to the office. I let myself in and put the letter in every camera lens from the entrance of the main building all the way to the floor I worked on and every camera in the office on the way to my boss' area, slid it under her door, gathered my things from my office, locked up the office and went home. I turned my phone off and slept like a baby for the first time in over two years. I will never forget that burden roll away. Mind you months prior, the Lord told me to quit. Don't let them steal your peace or your freedom.

That's not that uncommon for a employer to deny other coworkers a day off to attend a coworker WEDDING. Especially if you all did the same job,who would work?
Also employers don't have to give you time off for deaths for anyone except family. And sometimes even that is immediate family ( parents, siblings).
So although not nice, it's not they are trying to be a dick. Every company has some sort of rule regarding that.
If you knew the wedding was approaching you should have asked for the day weeks prior so they couldn't refuse.
The company goal is to make $$ not keep employees "happy".

I used to work at a bank for 8yrs. I left in 2019 and I was so happy I practically moonwalked out the door on my last day 🤣. I hated it there mainly because of management. I remember I used to cry when I woke up, I used to get chest pains amd one time I had to go to the clinic because of a panic attack so I was on anxiety medication for a little while. I took mental health days 1-2X a year. I used to be happy when I was genuinely SICK because I couldn't go to work 🤣
God is so wise though because He used that situation to break off certain things off of me. I am a much more humble person now and have alot more respect for authority and because of what I endured, if God ever elevates me to a place of leadership, I will never treat staff the way I was treated. I would be determined to be a good supervisor/ manager who treats staff with the utmost consideration and respect.

I've been at my company for 14 years and every single year I carry over incidental time, which can only be used for long term illness and grieving immediate family members. I have hundreds of hours that I can only use if someone dies or gets seriously sick. What a waste. I decided during this pandemic, this year, I'm not leaving a single minute on the table. If on December 31, 2020 I have 2 minutes left, I'm leaving two minutes early. I'm mentally exhausted and some days, I just can't do it. I still don't like calling off, but if I have a bad day, I'll let them know I won't be in tomorrow. I feel the message in this video.

I had a stroke at 27 and thought for sure it was my high stress job. Turns out it was due to a birth defect in my heart that sent a clot to my brain (now fixed, praise God!). That event changed my life in terms of self care! I have a different job now and I will take off whenever I need it ✊🏽 I do things that I enjoy and spend time with people I love. Also, watching some EJ for a good laugh is high on my self care list, too!

Needing a medication to go to work was my breaking point.

i've had a couple of stressful periods at my job. the second time, i flat out told my doctor i needed to be taken off for stress leave. i was off for 2 weeks. my big boss understood. i wish i had the courage to tell my direct supervisor (who was causing the stress). now working from home, my father had to tell me to take a vacation! i was like naw, what i need to take off for? i ain't goin' nowhere. BUT, i'm glad i did. 1. they weren't extending the deadline to use must-use vacation anyway. 2. it was a much needed break - just being home without the obligation of working.

Girl!!! I had a job where I literally had a headache from the morning drive to work and did not go away until I got off. They finally let me go. Best day of my life. No regrets!

I love this, you nailed it! I worked for a company for 7 years & was absolutely miserable the last 3! Everyday they were firing entire departments & tenure agents, outsourcing the company, took away incentives, adding to the workload with no addition compensation, black balling agents and preventing them from moving up in the company, harassing agents... the list truly goes on.
I was significantly under paid and under valued. I even went to the legal department & nothing came of it. The upper management lacked professionalism & consisted of people who lacked integrity & knowledge of the very company they worked for. I was stressed & bitter daily & I cried often. I literally complained about my job to anyone who would listen & it changed my personality. I hated seeing most of my coworkers & especially upper management. I applied for jobs for years and finally go an offer 4 weeks ago & took it!
Change was extremely scary but I wanted to prove to God that Him answering my prayers would not be in vain & to myself, that I would not allow complacency & familiarity, cause me to CHOOSE misery just because it was routine. I wanted to break the cycle & even in this short amount of time, I’ve been happier, more relaxed & more optimistic than I’ve been in years! My conversations have changed, no longer am I consumed with work & angry all the time. Regardless of what happens, I have no regrets about making the decision & I thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to leave & the courage to do it!

4 years ago I was in the worst job I've ever had. I was working 16 hour days, managing jackasses that made me question my sanity, dealing with outlandish expectations from my managers. I even ended up in the hospital for the physical effects of the stress. That's how I found you! Your "hate your job" videos came at the perfect moment! I quit and have never regretted it! I've been following you since!

14 years ago i was working in the medical field and used to cry in the parking lot before going in the building. My manager was a b-t-h. She used to lie about everything to make herself look good to the boss. She had me fired and tried to block my unemployment. I won my unemployment and moved to Florida. No weapon formed against me shall prosper.

I think that needs to be in every Workplace "A Mental Leave Of Absence" Real talk your mental health is extremely important. I work in healthcare and I definitely need to take days like that off.
