    Absolutely seal any hole you make in your fibreglass boat.

    Sometimes I believe your main goal is to see how many holes you can drill in your boats and kayaks without them sinking .😂😂

    Hi Mate, I would cover the heads of all those screws with a sealer like sika or similar on the inside of the boat, I have one screw in my boat at the moment wear water leaked from , the amount that weeper in from one screw and the damage it did is unbelievable

      Richard Kaye same thing on my vessel can't believe how much water a rub rail will leak! I replaced my whole rail and molding with new and leaks stopped,

    Marty, the addition of the rub rail looks great. Way back, my father introduced a neighbor to boating and he purchased the same brand that we had. It was a 27 footer, wood with glass over the sides. Anyway, he completely did the boat in a Tahitian motive (named the Tani Kai). It was so cool and your Chris looks so much like it.
    Great job! And thanks for taking us along. I keep reliving my boating years watching your videos.

    Like other people have said Marty..I'd use some kinda sealer on the tips of the screws right after you get it through the rope before it goes through your boat...that tiny bit of water will cause a whole lot of damage after a while..keep up the good work buddy ...#floridalyfe

    The rope definately adds a salty look to your boat. Well thought out installation. The only thing I could have suggested would have been scrubbing the screw on a block of beeswax, eases installation and adds to the watertightness.

    Must say that I'm surprised you didn't put a dollop of silicone on the skrews. Yes, boats DO leak...but why not add a drop of defense for your hard work??
    Anyways...Love how wonderfully artistic the good ship Kon-Tiki is turning out to be!

    Excellent method!!! Starting &:finishing require a rope solder, tongue depressor, and Popeye forearms! Pro tip: finger twist your screws in your setting line, split the hiding lines, and twist into the braid to set your line. Just did a Grady White cabin cruiser for market sale. Rope choice is important. Wish I used hemp rope. But only had nylons

    New subscriber here, but you really should seal any hole you make in fiberglass. The unsealed edges of the fiberglass will act like a wick and water will spread from each hole and can cause blistering and delamination due to becoming waterlogged. It's best to use a little epoxy to seal the edges, but some 3M 5200 will work just as well.
    Also I am enjoying your videos especially your kayaking ones.

    As water runs off the deck above, it will get into the rope and penetrate the screw holes in some areas more than others. Just doing a weekly wash down of the deck with a hose or the rain can cause the rope to retain moisture. I'd reconsider adding a sealer to the screw holes an/or rope itself. UV breakdown of the fibers might be an issue too. I don't mean to be a critic, I like the look and the function of your project. Some days you just want to relax and enjoy the benefits of creative labor. Cool look to the yacht indeed.

    It would seem to me that that rope would shrink and expand with the weather, which means it will also gather moisture and that moisture has to go somewhere. I wouldn't have even attempted anything like this without a good amount of Goop on every screw!

      The rope was a gift. You can find it new on ebay if you type, 'manilla rope' in the search. Or, check the local docks and ship yards to see if they have old ropes they'll give you for free.

      I'm told that I need the trim tabs to get up on plane. They don't work as is, so for now, all that full throttle does is waste fuel and the boat creates an enormous wake! I do 8mph at 1700rpm and 8.5mph at 4000+ rpm! >:^{
