- This episode I explain my process to fabricate rub rail end caps out of fiberglass. The stern corners of my Albin 27 pocket trawler are the most vulnerable places for the hull deck joint. Here's how I made fiberglass end caps using West Systems Epoxy and Total Fair Total Boat Fairing Compound.
Welcome to my boat building channel! This is my trawler restoration of an Albin 27 pocket trawler. Every couple of weeks I post a boat building or boat repair video to document various boat projects, sailboat restorations, trawler refit, or boat repairs.

I wish there was a way to make the corners out of rubber. With them being fiberglass and rigid they will crack upon impact with dock or post at the docks. I agree that job looks amazing, well done. Keep us posted on how well they hold up.
Ken: I hear this a lot. Let’s remember that the point of the fiberglass end caps is to finish the corner. 🤔Not for bumper car protection. The fiberglass end caps are more robust than the original corner hull deck flange with rub rail. And they can take a hammer strike. Ask me how I know. They can easily be repaired if cracked or damaged. The rub rail is not really bumper car protection. 😎
Corners look great. It’s not easy to problem solve all the things that pop up on a restoration project. Hats off to you for filming the process. 👍
Thanks Doug. Glad you enjoyed it
Looking Good! Closer with every step.
It’s like knocking things off the Big List, one day at a time 👌😎
Nice work, Excellent products, great finish!
Thank you sir 😁
I love Total Fair. It goes on very nicely and you don’t get pi holes like you can get with the fairing fillers and epoxy.
It has worked surprising well 😁👍
Good job!
Thanks!
You can use plasticine to fill gaps in your mold. Works better when there are no gaps for the laminating process
Excellent idea 😎I will check that out next time. Thanks
