- I've been following along for a few years as John and his friends have built one of the most unique and creative vehicles I've ever seen before. He took a Shoebox '49 Ford body, chopped it, widened it and placed it on a BMW 335i and added a big 62 mm single turbo and this thing rips! It makes over 600 hp, over 500 lbs of torque and looks like something straight out of Mad Max/Road Warrior. Check out Maniacs Garage on TH-cam when you get a chance.

Hey all! I'm John's (the builder) father-in-law. So proud of him, seemingly there is nothing he can't accomplish. Never mentioned, but this build is while John actually runs 3 businesses within his real estate company. Also, this car is the latest in a line of approximately 11 cars he has built. Our john is the best!
It shows, I would enjoy working with him, he seems genuinely a great guy with a super attitude and since of humor, and a wealth of knowledge and driven ambition.

I love the mega buck shop built cars where a team of pros build mind blowing pieces of art. But a dialed in home built car is always the hands down winner. Normally they will never get credit because there is not a name associated or not big on the show circuit but I will never get tired of seeing them. Thank yall

I was born in 1949, my Dad was a Master Sergeant in the Air Force and the first car I remember him having was a 1951 dark maroon red Ford. When he was transferred to Japan in 1954, he had the Ford shipped over there too. So we drove around Japan in our’51 Ford 😊

You're killing me Sean! I tried to catch these guys when I took my Son out to UTI's Volvo program in Avalon Az. They were busy getting it ready for SEMA, so couldn't do it. Then, three months later when I picked him up, they were at Holley Fuel Fest the Saturday we left, and I didn't even know about it until I got home. I was seriously bummed. I followed the build from I guess about a year into it. This is the true definition of "Build what moves you". Obviously not everybody's cup of tea, but I thought it was just Killer!

This thing is totally rad. It's not a rat rod because it's nicer looking, but it's not a smooth and sanded out car. You can see the welds, and the builder is not worried about making it pretty. You can see the scuffed metal on the body. I don't mean that as a slight in any way. That gives this car character and makes it a beast of it's own. Awesome that this guy did this in his spare time and wasn't afraid to play outside of the box. I would drive this on the daily if I owned it.

Boy, is your statement true!! I've had many custom cars in my 30 year past and I gotta say that this one is the most attention getting for sure! It's dificult to take it anywhere, but I enjoy every minute of it, especilly talking to people who are not even into cars but are so excited when they see this.

Best car I ever owned was a BMW. A 2002 BMW 750il that was a beast. It never broke down, MARINE Corps maroon with eagle globe and anchor Florida tag. Marine sticker in the back window. From zero to 100 in 5 seconds flat. Road a drove like it was on rails. That is when those cars were the best of the best. Put 100k miles on it and never once broke down. Today they are trying to get way to much power out of really small motors. I want to see that done and down right brother. Neal APOLLO BEACH FLORIDA SEMPER FI OHHHHHH RAAAAAA

A great testament to the tool and die makers 74 to 88years ago, when just 40 years before the 49 was styled and created, the guys were still making horse saddles, mule collars, and wagon wheels. Damn guy- you built a monster. I want one!! Well, dang it , I need a retro moded '37 Ford first. THANKS FOR THE ATE UP RIDE ALONG.! YOU BUILT IT THE WAY YOU WANT IT NOT FOR SOMEONE ELSE.!! GREAT JOB. VERY FUNKY MACHINE AND ONE OF A KIND. I doubt there's another person on the planet that rides in a driver like yours👈

I just built back to stock 1969 AMC AMX 390 XCODE GO PACK group 19 parts, original answer slotline all aluminum mags from group 19, teage wing, Every available option, found a NOS case or r12 FREON that now blows ice could. All numbers match, air shocks in rear, disk breaks in front. Back to hunter green original color. 1970 hood and front medal to keep it cool In FLORIDA heat. Put 1970 fiberglass hood , fenders, bumpers, which is longer the 1969. Painted hood, fender tops, to strip around the windows in MATTE WHITE , plus white AMC Sticker on the back fender. It keeps my car 15 degrees cooler in Florida. Air flow blows also. I like how you think outside of the box. We both did something special. Great job. Semper Fi, Neal APOLLO beach Florida

There are many films where a car is of great importance, like the Peugeot 403 in Columbo, or Kojak's car, a Buick Regal, Mad Max's Pursuit Special (also referred to as the Last of the V8 Interceptors which is basically a Holden Monaro). Etc, etc... I totally see your car in a movie, she has to pass a casting! 🙂Best and thank you. PS : And I do think that you have to try this, what you say in the video here : 13:33. PS : I find everything amazing about this car, I literally love the interior with those red seats. And the front of the car has a real personality (23:16).
In short, she has something out of the ordinary, and her strangeness makes all her charm. "It's Alive!" 🙂

Coming from a long BMW background (1st car was a '67 BMW 1600 in 1969 & there have been many since then up to a 330xi for the last ten years...), I'm curious about how you got past the iDrive software that ties nearly everything into it. Deleting stuff from the computer's control usually makes them lose their minds. How did you get past that? That sort of thing was soooo much easier in 1949! Really impressive project John, very well done!! 👍

I'm willing to bet with some aero this thing would actually be relatively good at road racing. This is definitely one of my favorite cars I've seen on your channel brother. Hey who do I talk to about bringing my car down? I live in Reno but I'm heading down there to go surfing with my older brother in August. I have a 1996 ford Thunderbird with a 1.5j (N/A I6 from an is300 with a precision 78mm turbo), haltech elite 2500 managed, dc009 with a clutch masters twin disc and lightweight flywheel, bbk sn195 front tubular subframe with complete drift domestic front knee assemblies, Hotchkiss rear adjustable arms, top shelf fortune auto coilovers, baer 6 pot calipers pinching 14 inch slotted and drilled rotors up front and dual OEM cobra calipers pinching 12 inch slotted and drilled jobs out back. The only relatively uncomfortable thing about the car is I run a spool rear end. It is a drift car after all. But it has the entire a/c system from the is300 I pulled the engine out of, I seam welded the entire chassis and unibody then covered every weld with ford seam sealer, I built my roll cage in a manner that allowed me to tie it in to my subframe connectors with removable door bars, the entire cabin is covered with black line-x bedliner and I laid an OEM carpet kit over that. I have the 10 inch haltech dash screen, then the largest Android tablet available installed right in front of the passenger seat in the dash so my lady can watch movies, or get some metal rockin for poppa bear. I just run that as a head unit and a 2500 watt 5 channel amp powers the 10 inch subwoofer, 2 6×9, 2 6 inch door speakers, and 2 tweeters. It has no rear seats but I spent money on the fronts. They're real JDM bride units. 3 piece wheels out in your neck of the woods hooked me up with some insanely aggressive deep dish 3 piece jonnies. 5 inches of lip out back (19×12) and 3 up front (19×9). Then I modified a knockoff rocket bunny wide body kit for a Lexus sc300. It looks absolutely fantastic man. No rattles, no scraping, no rubbing, My suspension is perfectly squared away, I run 2 mufflers with a cut out so it's quiet unless I don't want it to be. I also have N2o. But I use it completely different than I guarantee anyone else ever has. I just run a line from the bottle to a purge valve which is mounted to my dual radiator fan shroud. So if the car starts heating up sitting in grid with the a/c blasting, I just hit that purge button a few times. It's unbelievable how fast the thing cools down. I know I know, sounds crazy but trust me the shit works. Best part though is I got the car down to 2,920 with me in it. I'm 6'5 260 lbs so, it was quite a feat. Hopefully I hear from you man. Super cool build. Its awesome that the car is mostly a newer BMW with a old shell. I want to do something like this with a truck but put in on a car chassis
