- Anyone that knows me knows I'm a massive fan of Chris Ashton and his builds from Ruffian Cars. This is the 3rd build we've shot with Chris and truly one of the most exceptional purpose built vehicles I've ever experienced. Full race chassis, powered by a Shelby 526 cubic inch FE engine with a dogbox transmission and every single inch of this build is to have a semi streetable fully capable big track car so sit back and enjoy the ride...

If you’re a car guy this is the best channel on TH-cam.
Thank you for that!
Agreed!
100%
Agreed
It absolutely is! This is better than anything on MotorTrend.
I’m a car guy who is not mechanically gifted AT ALL, lol. I can only add or bolt on what others have made...Watching what Chris creates, in his mind first, then as it screams to life, has got to be what people must’ve felt when a master like Leonardo da Vinci was creating the art that he brought to life. I’m genuinely in awe (and jealous as hell) of such imagination, creativity and mechanical ability. Kudos bro, your rides are amazing
A lot of community colleges, adult education places have programs where you learn how to weld and bend, cut, roll metal. If there isn't, read some books and watch u tube. Then try a few small things. It will be amazing how fast you seem to learn how to do new things. Some will suck. Keep it up. I will learn every day until I die
This might be the nicest car on earth
Man, I love EVERYTHING about this car. He has great taste. What a smart, gifted dude man.
With you all the way here

@@chrisashton7133 I just saw this reply! My pleasure!🙏🏽
If I had an extra mil laying around… I’d have him build me one of these! Its awesome! Good job Chris!
I'd love to build another big car. So much fun!
I'm 71,my first car was a one owner,'64 500XL. It was a 2 door, white over red & red interior. It had the 390 4 barrel, auto, floor shifter & console. Big bucket seats & huge back seat/trunk! Bought in 1970. Loved that car. This car is insanely built, beautiful!❤
I’m 43
I’m 68 and my first car, purchased in 1973 was a mint one owner 1970 Mach 1. It was lime green metallic with white deluxe comfort weave interior and rear window slats. It had the base 351W 2bbl and an auto. It wasn’t very fast but it was a real looker! I loved that car.
You forgot to mention that it was more than likely affordable as hell lol
@kdsboosted4954 I don't know what dad payed for it. He got it at my friend's, dad's used car lot.
700 bhp NA...man what a monster
I'm not a massive fan of Fords, I'm not a massive fan of the Galaxie. Having said that, this could be the best car i have ever seen.
Perfect! It really is a flawless build
Chris's approach on what to do with your wealth and time after earning the wealth to own cars of this caliber is exactly how I would do it if I had the money... Built not bought
Car painter for 40 years. This paint job broke my brain. Awesome
He could have went with a digital camouflage like the Russian Fighter Jets.
Astounding what the paint shop did to bring his vision to life
It was a lot of fun!
I'm 54 years old, grew up hearing big old cars like these referred to as "boats" and "battleships" - whomever made the decision to use the camouflage paint scheme AND colors is both genius and funny! It is literally a nod to WWII battleships👌🤌👍👏👏👏 this coming from an Army Desert Sabre vet🫡🙂✌️
🫡@@marcpeters4599
I love this, but would love it even more if it had an interior like a Bentley. Like a completely savage-but-comfortable GT car. Awesome work.
I love this build!!! This Galaxy is frigen awesome!!
My god that’s a beautifully crafted car!!! The paint on the edges looks like ice cream you could eat!!!!! Well done!!!!!!
Best built car you've ever had on here. This guy is like a mad scientist 🤟
He’s a genius and a humble kind person. Glad to be friends with Chris
Thanks for look at the best car ever WOW...
What an amazing build Chris & his team wow 🤙😎
First time I had the pleasure of being in a “ yank job “ was a 60’s galaxy, 16 and hooked ❤
I'm a simple man, I see a Galaxy racecar and I click like.
I have never noticed a 64 to be a race car. This thing trips me out. There may be a few 427 cars but they don't seem to be out there at all.
Well done Sean & Chris that car of yours is BADASS!
I Own a 69 Pontiac GP 455 Stroker RHD in Western Australia - it's a work in progress with new videos coming later this year. Much respect. Cheers from DownUnder
Thanks. Chris and his team nailed it on this build. Such a special ride
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!! What An Awesome Car !!!!!!!
Chris is like Ian from Forgotten Weapons (AKA Gun Jesus)...but for cars. What an incredible build and cool guy!
Chris "Shaggy" Ashton did an amazing job on this car. Congrats to him and everyone else involved in the build.
I don't mind this. 😆
@@chrisashton7133 Thanks man. It was meant as a compliment because the shag was cool and hip.
@@chrisashton7133man this is one amazing build. Every single little detail has a purpose and works amazing. Not only is it a functional piece of work, it is a beautiful piece of art.
This guy needs a much larger team. Just the ideas and the way they execute them. I see how he would be incredible at anything he puts his mind to. Living the dream and deserves every second of it!
Thank you. Would love to be able to add a few more to the team this year. Hopefully we can line up one or two client builds. 🤞
Comedian Joey Diaz says “American cars scream America”….this does that 100%👍🏻
Hahahaha so true
Was this on the episode where the fellas were smelling salts?
@@KermitOfWar yup that’s the one haha
@@KermitOfWar Yes he was telling Joe Rogan about how American Muscle cars scream we’re Americans
All the way!!
Chris's builds are amazing & have so many hidden details. It's always a great video to watch him talk about his builds.
Now that it's him & his team, there's no stopping what they can do.
Holy crap, this is really close to the build I've been dreaming of for the last few years. Mine would look more vintage and keep a bit more of an interior, but the whole basic concept of a Galaxie body on a custom race chassis with modern suspension etc., built to tear it up at the track and in the canyons, hits the nail on the head.
Absolutely killer car. One of the coolest builds ever. I love seeing unconventional done just bad af.
One of the sickest cars I’ve seen built in a long, long time!
That's a bad ol ride and the person or people brought that Ford Galaxie to a whole new level compared to all the upgrades I've seen throughout the years with that particular year of a Galaxie. I've seen so many of em done so many different ways, this one is spot on
They nailed it in every way on this one
Chris's way of building is really a refreshing departure from the usual stuff. Kudos to him and good luck.
Thank you! We'll keep on keeping on!
Not a galaxy guy and not really a ford guy, but this galaxy is probably one of the nicest built cars I've ever seen. Simply amazing
Thank you! This is the my personal favorite so far but we do have some other brand cars in the works. I love them all!
@@chrisashton7133 No problem!! Keep up the amazing work. Can't wait to see the next one
10000%
The little yellow accents on the car are an awesome touch. I love how the tow loop on the rear carries up into the "F" in FORD.
Easter egg - the tow hook makes a "U" so the back of the car quietly says "F U" as sort of a middle finger to expectations that a big car like this doesn't make sense on a race track! Imma do it anyway!
@@chrisashton7133 Ha, nice catch.
I've been trying to work on my 63.5 galaxie 500, its been a struggle, but seeing his puts some inspiration in my brain
WOW!!! Come on man, this car is magnificent! Handmade this and bespoke that, the sheer brilliance of this car leaves me speechless. I love this channel dude. I can't wait to see his next car. I can't wait to see the next car on the channel. So very cool. Good for you bro.
Thank you! And this car blows me away on every level
What an epic build - the attention to detail is incredible wow!
Absolute stunner! Thanks guys.
If I ever win the lottery, Chris is building me a car 😍😁👌
I was almost brought to tears. . . I'll make it short: My dad bought a 63' Wagon, Red..with a 6 cylinder that had a blown engine, the broken rod made a hole in the side of the block... the most anti-cool thing in the world in 1982, I was a senior in high school, and was embarrassed when my friends seen his project, he had bought a welder on a trailer, a behemoth of a monstrosity, he welded it up.. it friggin ran !.. I recall falling for the car when I had seen things like the hood latch, the emblem, amazing. He had made a few hundred bucks on his $50 purchase, I missed that car and bought a 64' Impala wagon, made a wooden console, always said it was lowered but it was stock, worn out and a piece of crap but I loved it, and have had numerous wagons since, currently a Volvo XC70, lowered, and gave my daughter, an 850, Blue with spoiler and chrome wheels, she hated, then loved, now an XC70 .. Love this video, thanks
Thanks for the comment here!
This might be one of the coolest cars ever built
Swiss watch movement level detail in every element. Mind blowing
Thank you! Props to Shawn and his team for putting together a great video where we could share a lot of the details with everyone.
I'm not a ford fan but damn that galaxy is mesmerizing just like the real galaxy. The attention to detail I unmatched. His every explanation why every item is placed in a specific position for a specific reason. How everything is there for a reason nothing more nothing less. I'm surprised they didn't say anything about the rear tail hook with yellow and F on ford emblem FU a subtle hint😂😂😂. You are 1 lucky man that is a beautiful car. Im also glad he says we and not i. Shows his appreciation toward his workers and their commitment of making the magnificent vehicle. Along with not taking all the credit for others giving him advice. I also like that he also shows the wall of shame. The best lessons in life are your mistakes in life. It makes you stronger and more resilient in the end. Kudos to this car build you and the team. Look forward to your other builds definitely buying a book. Thank you for showing this to the world truly appreciated.
Watching this car gave me great memories of my dad’s galaxy! RIP Pops!
Thank you guys! Amazing car…
Dang. Definitely a heart felt dad build.
Having worked with Chris for a while now and knowing how much time and thought is put into the design alone, it’s awesome to see all the hard work and hours by the team highlighted in a badass video like this! This car is nuts, and I’m so excited for the next ones!👀
That wont get you a raise, back to work!!
J/K
Dude! I literally just finished watching the GT 40 and Mustang video's and then this popped up in my sub feed. That's crazy timing. I love that he just watched TH-cam videos and taught himself as he went building the Mustang. This guy is a mad scientist.
He is truly genius level imo
Wow, huge respect for that build ! And love your videos ! Greetings from Germany
Thanks and Ruffian is the build team to be watching. They don’t miss
@@AutotopiaLA that’s for sure , thank you for making these nice videos !
Man what a car! Chris and his team build totally cool stuff that obviously works properly too. Awesome!
Gonna push it a bit harder at the autocross later this month!
Hey, Shawn!
When I got the notification, I saw, 52 minutes! - Who’s got the time?
I’m glad I made the time.
Thanks a lot for sharing not only your experience of driving such machines but also for the spreading of the word thru the stories of regular people, just like you and I, that contains so much knowledge and truth.
I am digging the long format; the new 3D intro is “all right“.
Word to the wise: at 44m30s, your crew makes a right turn without a full stop.
Edit that off; it can be “incriminating”.
🤔👊🏽❤️🔥
Thanks for the comment. It had to be long because there’s so much to this build
So much to take in on this great build. One thing I find really cool though is how it sounds. It doesn’t have that sound I normally expect from a big block…….this thing goes through the rev range and sounds like a small block. Cool stuff👍🏻
It revs incredibly fast! We were all surprised too! Does have an aluminum flywheel which has to help a little, but still!
That 500 is of a Galaxy purely of it's own.
This is my favorite AutotopiaLA vehicle overview, thus far.
Chris' level of attention to this build and the quality of finish on the Galaxy is Top tier!
That ending slippery takeoff with the accompanying exhaust note was Purrrfect!
He’s an impressive guy and along with his crew builds vehicles that everyone is taking notice of
Went on Ruffian's website to see the car finished and all of the details some more. Love the woodgrain dash being still in the car.
Ruffian should register this 500 for Good wood Festival of Speed. I bet that original OG Galaxy owner/builder would love to see it too.
Not so much the other racers on the starting line field. 😂
You're 100% right. Ruffian is definitely the company to watch. I've appreciated so many builders over the years (I've been a gearhead over 50 years) but the first time I saw that Mustang I was blown away. Absolutely perfect cars... even if I'll never afford one. 😉
Thank you! I hope we get to keep doing our thing for as long as that can last.
This is incredible! One of my favorite cars from sema
I'm a Mopar guy but that galaxy is sick and the sound is perfect
One of my favorite cars my dad had one with a 427 thunderbolt it was awesome
Hell yeah boiiiiii!!!!! Such a sick video! Definitely does justice to the car. Thanks sean and the team for shooting the car
Thanks! So glad we got to shoot this finally and can’t wait for the Mustang next!!
Neither can we. Also just wanted to add really loved the way this video was edited... Super super cool
HO-LEEEEE-SHIIIT!! What a hell of a badass ride!! I am frikkin OVER THE MOON IN LOVE with this Galaxie!!
One of my favorite cars of all time. Awesome build and using a FE just makes it better. Fear starts with FE. Respect.
Nice, thank you!
yalll keep up the editing upgrades on the channel, showcasing these beauts nicely!
Thank you and we’re pushing harder than ever to make great videos
Ruffian Cars are right up there with the Ring Brothers on creating some extreme, beautiful machines! I cannot wait to see what Chris and the team are gonna build next.
Agreed and I’ll add these are purpose built drivers…far from just a show car
My mother would have wanted that to take us boys to Kentucky every year as soon as school was out she rolled her Galaxy 500 like she was Richard Petty😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Race Car First. This is the best episode, great quality crew! Chris walking us thru fabrication of the car and all of the knowledge, engineering and skill's needed to do this and how race car it is, different animal. Everything looked great. 7,000 hrs. Labor, wow. I'd like to see an episode with it on a racecourse where it belongs, the highway doesn't give it justice as to the full capabilities of this race car. We all had the same smiles on our faces that you guys had on the road. I just ordered the coffee table build book they have on website.
Race track footage will happen for sure!! That’s its purpose
I sold Chirs this Galaxie a few years back, amazing work he did to transform it - so cool !
Small world! Chris and his team put so much thought into building this
@@AutotopiaLA Yes indeed- incredible !
Chris’ Galaxie is absolute perfection!
Thank you to the whole team at ATLA for doing a full build feature…def took production to next level!!! 🙌🏼. Really been excited to see this. I am constantly amazed at Chris’s meticulous concentration on every aspect of the full build…down to the smallest details. 👌🏼👌🏼.
Thank you and Chris and his team are the ones to watch imo
Chris's art in high school was breathtaking. He was a thoroughly decent kid with amazing talent.
Most of the automotive stuff is over my head but I love to watch the videos to listen to our genius kid talk about his work. We knew he would do well.😘
Love hearing that and not surprised. He’s such an impressive humble guy. Love becoming friends and watching his impact on the hobby
This embodies the ideas of a motorsports enthusiast, I can’t wait to see this monster on a track
Amazing piece of work...and LOVE the FE powerplant. "New" old school power.
As the builder of a 63 Impala SS with a 600 plus horsepower blown not so small small block, I am most impressed with your work. Jealous, envious and standing with a jaw dropping wide open mouth I am truly impressed. One of the best builds I've ever seen. And yes, thanks for keeping the 427 Ford engine. Their best in my eyes.
BACK IN MY HIGH SCHOOL DAYS A COUPLE OF MY FRIENDS WENT IN TOGETHER TO BUY A 64 FORD GALAXY 500XL WITH A AUTO TRANS AND A GAS GUZZLING FORD 390CI ENGINE!
YOU MAY NOT CARE, BUT US FORD FANS DO!...SO I AM GLAD YOU KEPT A FORD ENGINE IN A FORD CAR!...I AM JUST SAYING!...GOD BLESS AMERICA! 😇
I was blown away by this car at Sema and I can’t tell you how excited I was to get a notification that you shot the car. Then to find out it was 52 minutes was even more exciting. Great job and I can’t wait for the next episode from you guys.
Thank you. So glad this got to happen and it had to be long because it’s such a deep build. His 67/68 Mustang will happen in the next couple of weeks most likely
The thought and design, how well thought out everything is, just blows my mine. Awesome, Awesome work I love it!!!
You know I love the FE. Chris you made the right decision there!
Soooo glad that Shelby makes them. Perfect motor for this car and honestly one of my all time favorite powerplants after owning the Galaxie.
I was gonna throw the remote thru the TV if there was gonna be an LS in there
Hah! Don't do that! But I get it . 😁
I thought that back end couldn't get any better. It did! Mans got an eye, and seemingly listens to it. Respect. 👍✌️
Thank you! I try to not muck it up!
@@chrisashton7133 No problem, credit where it's Due. I think there are a lott of people thanking you giving us something new and authentic to drewl over. Will happily wait on another!
Perfect. We have a lot of irons in the fire!
@@chrisashton7133 And? Finished another one? 😂
@@chrisashton7133 My man. Fastest Gun in The West!
OMG I’m in love with this car. The second you used the cars and good wood as an example in new what you were talking about. I found a couple of different u-tube videos of those cars carving the tracks up sliding through turns. I thought that would great to a modern version of one of those cars. You absolutely nailed it. What a great crew job and vision.
Off the chart everything..Car,Builder, Host,Crew.. Movie quality video.. 💯🔥
Thank you! Chris and his team along with our team…so proud of how this one turned out
This is an insanely great build! Stating the obvious I know, but this young man is sure to make waves in the custom scene. Definitely subscribing to your channel. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching and Chris and his team are making waves for sure!
That Galaxie is one of my favorite cars of all time ,ever.. of my time on this planet (37yrs) Super super badass, insanely well done, there’s not any words I could use to describe how great that that Galaxie is. Super F’n awesome 🤜🏼🤛🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼💨💯
Totally agree!
A true one of a kind creation, tops off to the Artist !!!!
This is artwork in a functional format. I love the attention to detail, breathtaking.
Thank you! Definitely a blend of art and engineering. I think that's what makes custom car building so special and fun. :)
I love that Chris is a Ford man. Ford has been the American icon that has been with us since Henry Ford himself. Henry Ford raced, then won, and founded FOMOCO
You have had some badass cars on the channel but, this one is completely insane! The attention to detail is next level. Out of this world amazing build. My favorite.
Next level for sure. So much thought into every inch
His builds are totally insane!!! Every car!!!! Especially the Ford GT!!!
He nails it every time imo
If you were to look in the dictionary under Bad Ass.....well, there you go!
The attention to detail is off the chain!
Well done!
Okay, I’ve been a subscriber since 2020, and THIS is my favorite build you’ve showcased! Not only that, but the videography and those gorgeous drone shots were sublime. I can’t imagine how proud Chris and his team are of what they’ve accomplished with this Galaxie. Feeling like I’m picking my jaw off the floor. I’m not kidding when I say I’m saving this one to which again. It’s almost like this should be payed content (please don’t though!). Seriously, thank you to Chris, Ruffian, Sean, and everyone involved in bringing this to us.
Wow! Thank you for such a cool comment. Chris and his team are on fire and I’m beyond proud of the work my team is putting in on 2024 content. Been pushing harder than ever! Thank you 👊
Amazing car and interview! Every single design choice is perfect - I can't remember seeing another car where I wouldn't change even a single thing.
Same for me. This is perfection
I’ve never been so impressed by a build before in my life. This is next level. Watch out ring brothers
Every builder needs to watch out for Chris and his crew imo
In '67 I bought 64 galaxy 500xl canary yellow with black buckets and blk vinyl top...loved that car !!!❤
I love the thinking outside of the lines approach
This kid is special. Outstanding!
By far the best break down and in-depth detail of a car!!
I love the longer 50 min sessions especially when it went into the psychological breakdown of the car in the style and the functional🙏🏼🙏🏼🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Thanks for the input. Was worried about how long it is but it deserved showing all the details. Thank you!
These longer videos are awesome. It's like being in a racecar design class lol
We raced circle track cars supper stock division in the 1970 we and others raced 67 Fairlanes and Galaxs with Nascar 427 side oilers they were fast! We had 720 hp. Your Galaxy is purely beautiful and built to perfection. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
That's amazing! You got to do the stuff that inspires us today. Love that history. Thanks for sharing!
Production on this episode is supreme👌
Thank you
This is such an awesome car!! Funnily enough we do the same throttle pedal design in our New Zealand Stockcars and Superstocks as far as I know.
This car is one of the baddest builds on the planet. The amount of time and engineering is next level
Agreed all the way
Genius.
Got the chance to meet Chris at last weekends GNRS. Such a down to earth and humble guy. He had the '67 Mustang there, the work was incredible
absolutely sensational. not only in looks(its sexy as), but the detail and planning to set it out, build and execute. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!
They thought through everything
Talk about taking a build to the next level...just unreal!🤯
Definitely hoping to spend less time on future builds! This was extreme!
The FE engine has made legends.
I am such a huge fan of that motor now.
my favorite FE has to be the 427 SOHC Cammer V8.
Chris is not only incredibly talented and artistic.. he's humble. Respect 😎
Man! When you see builds on this channel,It seems like there's nothing out there that could beat them in any aspect, but this thing... Next level geeking 👌
Seriously next level!
Chris is the epitome of an artisan…his attention to detail and quest to design completely unique and beautiful cars is nothing short of mind blowing! IMO he’s ‘it’s right now…no one else comes close for this genre of build!!!😊
That's not a race car. It's a beautiful monster automobile. Extremely well done. Thumbs 👍
