My dog does the same, he’s an active 1 & a half year old dog & only does this weird breathing in & out type cough after he’s ran around the garden & played, I thought it was asthma but after looking at this video it might be kennel cough, don’t know how he got it cos he don’t interact with any other dogs much & he’s never been to any kennels either

Oh my gosh! I am sitting here crying with gratitude for finding this. My dog went to the groomer who is a mobile groomer in about a week later develop this cough that sounds like a honking gagging cough where he spits up white Sputum. I have been thinking he had congestive heart failure but now I see the possibility is high that he has kennel cough. Going to take him to the vet , but not accepting new patients for two weeks so I will try the honey and Oregon grape remedies as well as the dandelion leaf tincture. My Billy is seven years old And has really been in good shape up until this. He still eats, drinks and poops but he’s sleepy and now pretty much sleeps through the night with no coughing. I just can’t thank you enough for at least letting me see some other alternatives! We can sleep well tonight!

My Puggle has been coughing like this for 3 weeks now. Vet gave us us antibiotics and tralieve(tramadol) 😮 my boy won’t take either no matter what I hide it in. Honey seems to be the best thing and anti histamine tablet. Because we suspected KC the vet only did a brief examination in the car park
Woke up early this morning to my poor girl coughing sounded like she was choking and scared me to death ! After watching this video I do feel better she is still active eating drinking and happy. Going to try some of these remedies and hopefully she gets better

He was playing around with a chocolate lab last week that he meets regularly when out and the owner mentioned that his dog had kennel cough, didn't say when and I assumed it was a while back or he would not have let his dog near others. Check your baby for collapsed trachea. Very common in chihuahuas. My precious dog got worse as he got older and the times he had the worst time was in the middle of the night. Remove all fragrance from the home and don’t use any fabric softener (even unscented) or scented laundry soap. You want to prevent the collapsing as your dog gets older. It’s like a straw bitten down on. It’s never perfectly round again and is prone to collapsing more frequently. It can get very scary so please heed my warning. Chihuahuas should only wear harnesses when walking for this reason.
@@JulieJackson-gw2vh My Whippet had a kennel cough vaccine {sprayed up her nose} but here we are- kennel cough a few months later, and she's never been in a kennel of doggy day care- it's just in the environment - There are many more dogs around since Covid. It sounds like a rasping snort, a whole series of them, and the dog appeared a bit anxious while the paroxysm is happening. But after a few days it changed to a 'cough'. Edit...It has now gone away, thank goodness. it lasted about a week.

yep that's exactly what my dog did then my other dog started doing the same thing then i knew it was a contagious infection. It sounds like he's trying to cough up a furball but nothing comes out or sometimes some white stuff saliva comes out

My dog had a terrible cough about a year ago and I gave him Manuka honey for about two week,not normal honey as it doesn't have as many anti bacterial properties in it and it cleared up completely and has never returned. Be careful if you're dog is diabetic.

Sometimes I wonder if you have a tape recorder in my house, because you ALWAYS answer the question I have at the time! We just rescued a dog from shelter who has a severe case of Kennel Cough and I wanted to know how long it's contagious. We have dogs separated, change clothes & scrub down every time and use Lysol to sanitize. We have been doing antibiotics and steamy bathroom, which are helpful. Plus chest percussion to get up mucus. From the research I did the non core or optional jabs are a waste of time and money. Wow, just adopted a six month old terrier mix, and he started doing this cough. I thought he had something in his throat, but it continued and has been going on for like 3 days. Thank you for this information. I just got a new pure breed yorkie and he has developed a slight occasional cough. Sounds similar to a geese’s honk. It’s not all the time it’s very sporadic. Beautiful person. Dr of Veterinary..... Walking my shi tzu. Was looking at some plants and she sounded like a goose/duck noise. Coughing or semi choking. Sadly my dog got this. He was really old, 13 and a large Rhodesian ridgeback. We took him to the vet and found out he got severe phenomena from it. 2 weeks later he was as thin as a twig wouldnt eat and sleep all day. The vet managed to put him on a iv and he was improving. Sadly he went down hill several times and we had to sadly put him down because he got too ill 😭.
I think my dog has this. She's drinking and eating but a lot less. She spends more time sleeping, not active and I think her temp increased for the past days. She also has rashes in her belly part.
@Lo Achumi i honestly don't know since i can't afford to get her to the vet. She just one day stopped coughing after forcing her to eat several times and she's back to her normal self now.

This was very helpful. I went to the vet 2 days ago because my dog started to cough this way, I took her to the vet and they wanted to bill me 1300 for an ekg and radiology exams to see if it was her heart. It sounds exactly like this and she was kept in a kennel for 2 weeks that she was missing at an animal shelter

A dog coughing like this when it gets excited could be something other than just kennel cough. My dog has valley fever and it also has a productive cough when he gets excited or more often at night. It could also be a sign of heart disease and other things too.. so don't just think because your dog coughs like this, it's kennel cough..
I did think something was stuck in his throat at first because he always eats weird things. But he does go to the dog park and the vet told us since he is vaccinated with bordatella and he is eating and drinking, just keep him inside for a week or more until cough stops. They did not mention honey to us which I think is great. We have some local honey at home and started giving it to him last night. They also did not mention to take his collar off. Thanks for the great tips. He still wants to go to the dog park, he waits by the front door, it is is favorite place.

Whenever I've heard people talk about kennel cough, they act like it's a deadly condition! I mean, I'm sure if you don't stay on top of it it could turn into pneumonia and then it could be deadly but why does my vet's office have a notice on the door about it like it's ebola?!
Thank you SO much for making this video! I took my yorkie to the vet and kennel cough was never even mentioned. Allergies were assumed and medication given, only it hasn’t worked. Instead, it has made my dog lose his appetite (a side effect) and very drowsie.
The Oregon Grape extract worked wonders for my Westie. I had two sick Westies. One had it very mild and one had much tougher going and I used the Oregon Grape on the sicker one. I just had to put my little dog to sleep because for a long time he had this cough got worse , asked my vet if he had kennel cough , they said no , but turned into puemonia and a lot of wheezing , he came from Georgia Very Abused was used as a breeding dog. I think my vet played around too long with him. Every time you go to my vet they’re a group , you never get the same one. Never Again. If and when I ever decide to get another rescue from the shelter , I’m going to a different vet. I miss my baby so much , just thinking maybe he could have been saved. My dog does has this same issue. I took her into the vet 2 times for it already, they told me everything is fine and she doesn’t seem to have a problem, but yet she continues to do this. It happens every once in a while. She sounds like she’s trying to hack up a fur ball, but nothing comes out. No whit foamy liquid or anything along those lines, just a dry hack. Eating and drinking is fine, and she’s active. She’s about to be 6 in 4 weeks

I let my pug stay at his vets office while I was on vacation and then got home scheduled him to be bathed and groomed by the next day( last night) he started coughing. I am going to try a little honey and coconut oil mixed into his food with some warmed bone broth. I hope it helps, I woke up to his coughing about 4 times last night. Wish me luck!!
My doberman puppy is coughing exactly like Roxy is. The thing is, he was playing with some bones the other day and that's the day when he started coughing. At first I thought something got stuck in his throat, but it's been abut 5 days now that he is coughing. Wouldn't that something have gone down already, if it was stuck? My poor dog was coughing and hacking for a little over a month. At first I thought it was the harness I bought, maybe it was pulling to much on his chest, so I bought a new one. There was no change, he would cough/hack when excited, drank water or randomly for no reason at all. It took weeks before I realized it maybe kennel cough. I jumped online to see if I was correct and to see if there was a way to help him at home. That's when I came across this informative video. I instantly ran out and bough raw honey and started giving him a teaspoon *he's about 15 lbs* every 4 to 6 hours and the change was noticeable in the first day. We are now on day 3 and the coughing is almost nonexistent. Where he would couch/hack 2 -3 times a hour, he may lightly cough 2 times a day! I plan to continue this for a week or till the symptoms go away fully. Thank you again for the wonderful suggestion for a natural way to help my dog.
My dog was doing the same sound for about 1 or 2 days. I heard that sound before so thought initially that there was not much to worry. She did that sound sometimes and rarely if she jumped down from certain height or was to overexcited. The third day she was moving a bit slower than usual by you could not tell if she is having trouble or was just acting weird and also lost her appetite so I went to the doc. After further analysis at the vet, I found out that she somehow consumed a large amount of rodenticide. It was already too late and she died afterwards. I remember I watched this video a day before and though she would have similar issues like the dog in the video. Of course I was kind of stupid to believe it could be the same thing. I've read about all dog coughing types and they all lead to different illnesses, but none of them suggested rat poison. I am a bit sad cause she was only around 3 years old and also had to watch her suffer till the end. It was a terrible mistake to wait until she showed further symptoms. I have to mention my dog was mostly out in the yard. So not really a house dog that you watch all day.

My rescue I got a week ago has the same exact symptoms but he’s really lazy on the couch for 24 hours and he’ll usually jump up and follow me in the house not all the time. The couch is his safe spot since he got here. He feels a little warm, so I got a cold towel and put it on his paws and his ears. I read that this morning. He wouldn’t eat unless I brought him the food on the couch? Apparently the rescue records say he had kennel cough and or Covid. He’s two years old. I’m gonna call them now.😢

It sounds like a rasping snort, a whole series of them, and the dog appeared a bit anxious while the paroxysm is happening.
But after a few days it changed to a 'cough'.
Edit...It has now gone away, thank goodness. it lasted about a week.

yep that's exactly what my dog did then my other dog started doing the same thing then i knew it was a contagious infection. It sounds like he's trying to cough up a furball but nothing comes out or sometimes some white stuff saliva comes out

My dog had a terrible cough about a year ago and I gave him Manuka honey for about two week,not normal honey as it doesn't have as many anti bacterial properties in it and it cleared up completely and has never returned. Be careful if you're dog is diabetic.

Sometimes I wonder if you have a tape recorder in my house, because you ALWAYS answer the question I have at the time! We just rescued a dog from shelter who has a severe case of Kennel Cough and I wanted to know how long it's contagious. We have dogs separated, change clothes & scrub down every time and use Lysol to sanitize. We have been doing antibiotics and steamy bathroom, which are helpful. Plus chest percussion to get up mucus. From the research I did the non core or optional jabs are a waste of time and money. In the beginning I thought it might be heart worm, but after seeing and hearing the dog you showed with this disease, am sure it is exactly that same sequence in the cough that ends with a spitting up saliva.
My pooch was a rescued 6 month old from death row (appears they put down certain breeds that have purple gums) at the animal shelter, and she had this same malady, which responded to medicine very quickly from the vet I took her to shortly after I adopted her.seven or eight years ago.

It’s not all the time it’s very sporadic.

Sadly my dog got this. He was really old, 13 and a large Rhodesian ridgeback. We took him to the vet and found out he got severe phenomena from it. 2 weeks later he was as thin as a twig wouldnt eat and sleep all day. The vet managed to put him on a iv and he was improving. Sadly he went down hill several times and we had to sadly put him down because he got too ill 😭.

This was very helpful. I went to the vet 2 days ago because my dog started to cough this way, I took her to the vet and they wanted to bill me 1300 for an ekg and radiology exams to see if it was her heart. It sounds exactly like this and she was kept in a kennel for 2 weeks that she was missing at an animal shelter

My 14 year old pug has been making this sound for the past 2-3 weeks and her vet can’t get her in since they don’t think this is an emergency because she’s eating and drinking normally. Now I know it’s very likely that she has kennel cough, probably caught at the groomers (petsmart) when I took her in to get her nails trimmed 4.5 weeks ago.

what is wrong with my 15 year old otherwise healthy Maltipoo who started snorting like a pig two weeks ago? Vet hospital administered a round of antibiotics and pain meds, then second visit - a steroid (which I took him off after two days, terrible response). it seems the distress is in his nose and it's affecting his ability to breathe...he cries/whines intermittently as well. A dog coughing like this when it gets excited could be something other than just kennel cough. My dog has valley fever and it also has a productive cough when he gets excited or more often at night. It could also be a sign of heart disease and other things too.. so don't just think because your dog coughs like this, it's kennel cough..
I did think something was stuck in his throat at first because he always eats weird things. But he does go to the dog park and the vet told us since he is vaccinated with bordatella and he is eating and drinking, just keep him inside for a week or more until cough stops. They did not mention honey to us which I think is great. We have some local honey at home and started giving it to him last night. They also did not mention to take his collar off. Thanks for the great tips. He still wants to go to the dog park, he waits by the front door, it is is favorite place.

Whenever I've heard people talk about kennel cough, they act like it's a deadly condition! I mean, I'm sure if you don't stay on top of it it could turn into pneumonia and then it could be deadly but why does my vet's office have a notice on the door about it like it's ebola?!

I just had to put my little dog to sleep because for a long time he had this cough got worse , asked my vet if he had kennel cough , they said no , but turned into puemonia and a lot of wheezing , he came from Georgia Very Abused was used as a breeding dog. I think my vet played around too long with him. Every time you go to my vet they’re a group , you never get the same one. Never Again. If and when I ever decide to get another rescue from the shelter , I’m going to a different vet. I miss my baby so much , just thinking maybe he could have been saved. I think they misdiagnosed him All This Time. No More. I’m Done With Them. !!!!!!!
My dog does has this same issue. I took her into the vet 2 times for it already, they told me everything is fine and she doesn’t seem to have a problem, but yet she continues to do this. It happens every once in a while. She sounds like she’s trying to hack up a fur ball, but nothing comes out. No whit foamy liquid or anything along those lines, just a dry hack. Eating and drinking is fine, and she’s active. She’s about to be 6 in 4 weeks

I let my pug stay at his vets office while I was on vacation and then got home scheduled him to be bathed and groomed by the next day( last night) he started coughing. I am going to try a little honey and coconut oil mixed into his food with some warmed bone broth. I hope it helps, I woke up to his coughing about 4 times last night. Wish me luck!!

My doberman puppy is coughing exactly like Roxy is. The thing is, he was playing with some bones the other day and that's the day when he started coughing. At first I thought something got stuck in his throat, but it's been abut 5 days now that he is coughing. Wouldn't that something have gone down already, if it was stuck? He is very bright and active, eats, drinks, sleeps and plays naromally.

My poor dog was coughing and hacking for a little over a month. At first I thought it was the harness I bought, maybe it was pulling to much on his chest, so I bought a new one. There was no change, he would cough/hack when excited, drank water or randomly for no reason at all. It took weeks before I realized it maybe kennel cough. I jumped online to see if I was correct and to see if there was a way to help him at home. That's when I came across this informative video. I instantly ran out and bough raw honey and started giving him a teaspoon *he's about 15 lbs* every 4 to 6 hours and the change was noticeable in the first day. We are now on day 3 and the coughing is almost nonexistent. Where he would couch/hack 2 -3 times a hour, he may lightly cough 2 times a day! I plan to continue this for a week or till the symptoms go away fully. Thank you again for the wonderful suggestion for a natural way to help my dog.
My dog was doing the same sound for about 1 or 2 days. I heard that sound before so thought initially that there was not much to worry. She did that sound sometimes and rarely if she jumped down from certain height or was to overexcited. The third day she was moving a bit slower than usual by you could not tell if she is having trouble or was just acting weird and also lost her appetite so I went to the doc. After further analysis at the vet, I found out that she somehow consumed a large amount of rodenticide. It was already too late and she died afterwards. I remember I watched this video a day before and though she would have similar issues like the dog in the video. Of course I was kind of stupid to believe it could be the same thing. I've read about all dog coughing types and they all lead to different illnesses, but none of them suggested rat poison. I am a bit sad cause she was only around 3 years old and also had to watch her suffer till the end. It was a terrible mistake to wait until she showed further symptoms. I have to mention my dog was mostly out in the yard. So not really a house dog that you watch all day.

Let me know how it goes. You have to take note though if coughing more at night and if it is accompanied by a murmur or abnormal heart rate or rhythm. If so, you may want to visit your vet to check up on your dog's heart.

My rescue I got a week ago has the same exact symptoms but he’s really lazy on the couch for 24 hours and he’ll usually jump up and follow me in the house not all the time. The couch is his safe spot since he got here. He feels a little warm, so I got a cold towel and put it on his paws and his ears. I read that this morning. He wouldn’t eat unless I brought him the food on the couch? Apparently the rescue records say he had kennel cough and or Covid. He’s two years old. I’m gonna call them now.😢
