Hi Erica, I’m absolutely loving your you tube channel. I’m a beginner in quilting and your videos have been a blessing. I have a question, in this one you said wash the quilt. When do I wash it and why is it necessary? Thank you so much.
I finally upgraded my sewing machine. Bought the same Juki as you (as well as the table and accessories.. what can I say? I'm a copycat, hehe!) and I love it! Thanks for all of your product suggestions. I'm going to look for a cordless iron, too. Likely the same one. Mine does not lay seams nicely like yours, lol.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Juki! And honestly totally loving this iron as well. I put it all the way on high, and use steam. If I have a tough crease I'll also use the little water sprayer as well.
+Erica Arndt I actually tested out a Singer that was very similar in features, but only $400 (Juki was listed for $600), and I ended up returning it after a day. I knew it wasn't going to be my machine. So, went with the Juki. Come to find out, my local shop had it on sale for $450! Score! I brought it home, got it set up, and it would only sew in reverse! The shop quickly got me a new one and it works flawlessly. I saved $200 with it being on sale, so I splurged on the extra feet and acrylic table. Well worth it!
I love your videos, so helpful, especially for me as a beginning quilter. Will you be doing a tutorial on how to make that beautiful butterfly block? That would be awesome! Thank you :)
Love the tips. I have only made yo-yo quilts so far but my n ext sewing project will be something different quiltwise. Of course, it will be a simple one to start out with! LOL
I have loved your videos for a very long time now, but one thing I hate to ask, but will. You are a very, very fast talker. I'm from N.Y. but living elsewhere. I think that it is my ears, but I am retired and did reams of public speaking. In places you slow down, but then speed up alot. Don't stop being you, I can slow the vlog down in the preferences, but for those that don't or won't do it, consider modulating your rate of speech. NO hate whatsoever, but I really noticed it on this video. For me, I'm good, just probably my age slowing MY ears down. Bless the work that you put into these vlogs, they are the clearest thing for learning!
@@erica_arndt No problem, you continue to be your wonderful self. At least you are aware of your flucuation in your rate of speech; and if you ever decide to do mass public speaking to huge crowds of folks, or a company wanting to give you millions in cash; email me for some free advice before the speaking big day. Otherwise, don't even worry about it on YT, we'll either manage or those that can't handle it...they can walk right? I won't be. You are a blessing to us crafters.
Hi! I don’t ever prewash my fabric, definitely do not prewash pre-cuts, they will free like crazy. The only time I prewash anything is if I am mixing flannel with regular quilting cotton. I will pre-wash the flannel because it shrinks more than the quilting cotton.
You are a great teacher, much appreciate all of your ways to best do something
Really enjoying this series - thanks for producing such awesome content!
Thanks so much, so glad you're enjoying it!
Great video! What’s that quilt block behind you?
It is my sherbet stars pattern

Hi! I usually wash them before I gift them, but also you wash them like you do your regular bedding/blankets as they get dirty.

Hi! No probably not as it was a pattern called Social Butterfly by Vanessa Goertzen. You can check etsy and find it there, or on Fat Quarter Shop.
Oh, and if I remember correctly Fat Quarter Shop has a video on it in their feed I think?
Thank you!

I've never made one of those!
+Erica Arndt It is a lot of hand sewing. Each yo-yo is hand sewn and then hand sewn together.

I'm so sorry! I know I've had several people ask me to slow down! It's kind of just who I am, but I will try in the future :)

Helpful
For the pdfs are they for purchase?
I have both free and paid for patterns, the sherbet stars is a free one
Do you prewash your fabric? I'm concerned about bleeding darks onto lights during future washing of the quilt. What do you think about this?

What is the name of the pattern for the cute butterfly looking block?
Social Butterfly by Vanessa Goertzen, check Fat Quarter Shop for the pattern :)
Didn’t enjoy hearing all about the iron TWICE!
