    this is a great video for the basics for people who are just beginning to quilt. I had to learn all of this from watching 100's of videos and just learning as I go. Should put a hashtag for beginning quilter info for those who may not find this by the title alone.

    You have clearly articulated what you're doing better than any other video I've watched. I've been wondering what to do with salvage and you're the 1st 1 to clearly explain. Tnx

    What an excellent job you do explaining this so someone who is not familiar with the terms can understand. I just love all of your instructional videos on quilting, knitting and crocheting! 😊💞
    You taught this old lady how to better use the lines on her sewing foot and her ruler! Great tips, Erica. 👍

    Oh boy! I’m going to have to look at all your videos regarding quilting. Never made one, but recently bought a wall pattern (44” x 44”) with Birds of Canada in it. This might take me a while ‘cause I’m just getting used to the acronyms, materials, needles , etc. Yep, newbie here. I like your videos. Camera is very good at showing us the smallest detail, your tips and tricks are great; and your teaching style is relaxing. Thanks for being here for us and looking forward to learning along with you.

      Thanks, isn't it pretty! :) I know it's an older line, but definitely check Etsy for newer Basic Grey fabric lines, they tend to have the same style in each line!

    Hi Erica - FANTASTIC VIDEO. I have been quilting and sewing now for 3 years, up to then I could not sew a thing. I wish I had seen this video then REALLY WONDERFUL, instructive video and your style of teaching is the same as mine when I deliver IT Training, precise, no jargon, great explanations and demonstrations and I teach how I know I would like to be taught and I think you do the same. I just love your videos and I watch some of them over and over and I hope you continue with the great quilting and sewing tutorials. Thank you, Linda from England x

    Really enjoy your videos, I am just getting started in quilting.
    Question, I was reading an old book on needlework, and they specifically called out not back-stitching when piecing, but hand tying every knot! I don't see you doing that, but not sure if your machine does it for you! Is there a reason to not backstitch?

    • @erica_arndt
      @erica_arndt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't back-stitch when I'm piecing because those stitches get locked in when you sew the blocks together, quilt and add binding. I've never had one come apart doing it this way. Plus hand tying knots at the end of each time you stitch would literally take forever!

    And what your stitch length is, and tension that whole thing, lol. Thanks

    • @erica_arndt

      I sew with the setting on my machine, which is 2.4 stitch length, tension at 4.

    Just an FYI, take a breather! You are talking in run-on sentences, quite fast, and are close to monotone as well. Can get annoying, although your videos are helpful, just keep in mind that can keep someone from watching it to the very end. Thanks.
